Thank you Pierre. You saved me a bunch of time trying to work this out. I'll suggest to the band we do this one!! You unpacked the parts clearly and well paced. Thank you again.
Hi, Pierre.. My name is Andrea..THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I don't read music I play by ear This way of showing the key names.. C#, Ab etc helps me to memorize hand positions. It's been a long time since I actually read music.. I did it for choral music.. one note at a time when I was quite young. I learned guitar and that helped me with finding majors, minors, major 7ths etc. It wasn't until I was listening to Karla Bonoff that I realized I can play by ear by recognizing chords and reading them in place of the actual notes.. I'm in a classic rock band and listen to the artists songs through my bose and write each note / chord name with the bass note below it. I often miss notes this way, but the response from listeners has been positive. I also have small hands. I can't tell you how grateful I am for finding you!! Thank You So Much for sharing your talent with me. Please take good care. I'll be looking for songs we do from you from now on. I will start now on that solo.. as timing changes for each hand is my BIGGEST challenge.
This is the only tutorial that even mentions the second kalimba part so accurately. Thx for sharing that nuance. Great selections of pop tunes, all my favorites.
There are a lot of keyboard tutorials on RUclips. Yours are absolutely the clearest and the best. Amazing! Thank you so much for the effort that you put into all of them.
Seriously, you just get it man. You'd be surprised, but hardly any channels think to include the necessary tools you do. Having sheet music, chords along with highlighted keys as you play are so huge (for me anyway). If I could request one song. Ben Folds "Selfless Cold and Composed" . There's one decent tutorial available on youtube, but I think you'd push players like myself over the hump. Thank you for all your amazing work/content!
Great, finally someone who shows the kalimba sequence correctly. I've been trying around with it for a long time. Thanks. Please the solo and in notation.
I completely agree with your compliment! I’m a bass player and find myself learning music theory for the bass - learning chords - from these songs and videos!! Plain language, a rich understanding of the keyboard, and gift of training are his super powers!!Bravo!
You make it look so simple and your pace and explanations are fantastic. I really want to play these kind of pop songs. Do you have a progression from simple pop songs to intermediate and beyond?
Thanks! Look at my channel page-- I've organized everything into playlists based on difficulty. It will get better as the months go on and I make and sort out more videos!
Hi, Lee worrell here, session keys UK. Just to say well done on an excellent tutorial video 👍. I have students showing me other tutorials and what they have been learning from, and a lot of it is HORRIBLE 😔. So after watching your very CLEAR , ACCURATE AND INFORMATIVE video thought I'd say great job,and thank you for making it.😎
@pierrejpiscitelli 👍. I applaud you for that 👏,, If I had more time I'd done similar myself, but Personal tuition is demanding enough 😂lol, so it's VERY REASSURING to have yourself at hand for expert help for my students. Obviously it will save them money also as they can refer to your on line help instead of my tuition fees. I try to give my absolute best attention to all my pupils and I'm certain that you'll be of great help in the future 🙏.
Hi, Pierre great tutorial. One request, what are the instruments you have to select on the keybord ? and can you split the keyboard to play 2 different instruments (mine can do it). Thanks.
Africa is a tough one. I am using synth brass on the left hand side, kalimba/bells on the right hand side. I used MainStage to program the splits and layers. I might do a video about it some day-- there are many ways to get a similar result!
Sure, I might make a video about it at some point. I was using Mainstage for all of the sounds-- the DX7 was merely used as a controller in that video! The brass comes mainly from the Retrosynth plugin in Mainstage, and there is some layered stuff from the Arturia Analog Lab in there as well. Too much for one comment here, but expect a video soon!
@@pierrejpiscitelli Awesome, I'll look forward to that video. Do you play in a band also, if I'm ever in New York City, I'd like to see and hear your band.
I am just beginning. I have a Roland Go Keys5 and like all electric keyboards, it has a million different tones. I know different brands may call the same tone something different. But if you could give us what tone you are using, it may make it a bit easier to find the correct setting. We all want to make ours sound as close to what you are playing. Thanks!
Thanks man - just subscribed! You do a very good job 👍 Played the kalimba riff all the time with one hand (with B when playing F sharp) - never did second line.. wasn't there some layering with delay going on in the recording? Btw. the kalimba patch you showed in the Africa solo video - do you use a factory preset or a custom patch on the DX7? It has a very acoustic quality, like it! 👌
@@pierrejpiscitelli aaah! Hence I also have the Arturia suite but I literally thought it was this keyboard’s own sound engine. What keyboard is it though?
What my piano teacher should have done: Teacher: "Learn these seventh chords." Me: "I don't want to." Teacher: "Have you ever heard the song 'Africa' by Toto?"
Hi everyone! Since you all asked for it, here’s a link to the Keyboard Solo Lesson :)

Finally a proper tutorial that does not mimic the vocals

It is by far, I've been through them all when I was trying to learn this song, great job Pierre. I love your channel and u got a new subscriber
I like to layer a marimba with the synth horn sound to get a little percussive sound to the chord. Excellent tutorial
Yes, of course we want the solo!
This weekend...
Great lessons. Appreciated!
Thanks very much!
Great, finally someone who shows the kalimba sequence correctly. I've been trying around with it for a long time. Thanks. Please the solo and in notation.
Yes, so many play it incorrectly. Just finished the solo video, it's coming out in a day or two.

I love Toto. Finally I found the best tutorial ever. Thank you so much, brother!
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
❤ great tutorials! What synth setting are you using? Pls. ❤
I'm using stock Logic Pro plugins, particularly Retro Synth as well as the Sampler.
I don’t play piano but I could listen to your voice and playing all day.
Thanks!!
Great video. Thanks Pierre. Yes, please teach the Solo. Got to have that to play the song.
Cool, coming soon! Thanks for watching.
Dude, you deserve way more than 12k subs. Quality content, well done :)
Very nice. Love it. Thanks. I love watching Greg Phillinganes demonstrate how he plays those solos on multiple keyboards. He must have two brains.
He is brilliant. Thanks for watching!

Nice thanks 👍🎶 hope you make more tutorials for keysplayers that interest at keysmusic

Grazie mille! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Awesome video tutorial! What is the keyboard patch that you are using?
Thanks! A few layered sounds in MainStage using the built in RetroSynth as well as some Arturia plugins.
Thats awsome, what have u used for your keyborad sound ? Thanks ( ive got yamaha p145)
Using a Mix of plugins-- some Arturia software, Retro Synth in Logic Pro, etc. It's a lot of layered stuff.
That brass sound is awesome. Is it a preset on the board your playing (cp88?)
Thanks! It's a stack of sounds that I made with LOGIC plugins.
Thank you very much @pierrejpiscitelli. With love, from Tanzania 🦁🏔🇹🇿

muito bom...parabéns pelo trabalho! ganhou mais um inscrito.

Fantastic job. But did I miss something? Please, I would love to see indications of the patches used to get the sounds as close as the originals...
You didn't miss anything! I use lot's of different plugins to make the patches. I'd be happy to do a lesson on that someday :)

I did! It's a separate video on my channel :)

What “voice” are you using on keyboard ?
Thanks for watching! I use the Garritan CFX Yamaha plugin.

great tutorial ! solo please :)

what is synthesizer just for watch the touch, the different type of noise please
What sound did you use ?Analog pad or something similar
Yes some virtual analog VST’s- maybe I’ll do a video about it!

ser what patch is that
I think the recording used an Oberhiem so look for a soft synth horn. You should be happy with that
You can hear David Paich’s influences of Keith Emerson’s Tarkus clearly.
Yes, you totally can. That's why Africa was initially in 10/8 and 24 minutes long, but they changed it to 4/4 in order to please the masses.
