  • When you need to repair or extend your background (or remove your subject) Adobe Photohsop has an incredible tool called the Content Aware fill. However, if you don't know how to "train" it, you may end up with messy results. Follow Moovieboy in this tutorial to learn how best to use this technique.

      Was this when I inverted at 3:06? If so, then here's what I did. First, make sure you have the layer mask icon in that layer selected (when you do, it has a white border/frame). Then I simply hit "command/control i" to invert the mask. You can also find it in the menu as Image/Adjustment/Invert. Does that help?

    Great tutorial! I'm lost after you've inverted and you're trying to select using the rectangle tool, I can select easy enough but when I hit delete (MacBook backspace keyboard button), it deletes the mask from my subject in the middle so I'm left with the background I wanted to get rid of and I've lost some of my initial mask, in your example it would now be showing the model's legs which you previously cut out. Sorry I'm learning - thanks again!

    • @Moovieboy
      @Moovieboy  7 лет назад

      Are you looking at the 7:00 mark? Let me know if this is where you see me doing this. If so, I'm actually hitting option-delete but the trick depends on what are you current foreground & background swatches. Option-delete fills the selection with your foreground color (at this moment, I had black so it fills the selection black). If you hit command-delete, you fill the selection with your background swatch. If these delete combos don't make sense, you can also just fill the rectangles with black. Does this help?

    • @Moovieboy
      @Moovieboy  7 лет назад +1

      Cleaning the remaining pixels was mostly done with the brush tool on the foreground layer mask; zooming in and carefully cleaning around the edges. I also use the refine mask window (which recently became the "Select and Mask" window under the Select menu. I discuss the refine mask window more in my video: "Photoshop Layer Masks with Scarlett Johansson."

    after I remove my subject, I try to select the areas to content fill and it won't let me even choose fill. Do you know why this might be?

    • @Moovieboy
      @Moovieboy  6 лет назад

      Is the layer you are selecting locked? In my example, this would be my bottom "background" layer showing a locked icon. If you click on that icon, it should unlock and the layer will now allow you to fill. Keep in mind, however, you shouldn't be working on that layer so you always have an original layer should something go wrong.

    What is the best background to make the best workflow of quick selection? Is better when is black, grey or white background? Actually I makes photo on white background ale quick selection works quite well but sometimes work not enough good, is much work to correct of selection by maks etc. Any tips what to do in studio or lighting setup or something else to make quick selection faster? ^_^

    • @Moovieboy

      If I'm understanding correctly, I tend to do most of my mask work against white. Yet, working with keying software in After Effects, I'm used to working white on a black background, so I think it's more about using contrast to your advantage.

    • @Moovieboy
      @Moovieboy  6 лет назад +1

      Typically, I start with the Refine Edge Brush. You can find it by choosing "Select and Mask" from the select menu. Now, here's the trick. That version of the brush doesn't work as well as it used to. To get the super secret earlier version of the refine mask brush, hold down the "SHIFT" key when you choose "Select and Mask" from the Select Menu. This brush helps for most of it, but after, you'll still have to use your brush tool on the mask layer for the last bits of touch up. Does this all make sense?

      If you ever use a mask in Photoshop you can always paint in black with a brush to remove specific parts of the mask and white to reveal and bring back parts of that mask. (Be aware of the hardness of the brush) To completely remove the layer mask you can simply right-click it and delete the mask if you don't want it at all.
