I hate giving thumbs down, but knocking the 3 stage intake because you only did 90% of the install is just bad info. It needs a tune to properly take advantage of the swap, and that's something you failed to do. No wonder you think it's a waste of time. You didn't do it right.

You probably need the 330i tune for the new manifold to show any type of improvements. Right now, the car doesn't know what to do with the extra parts you just added. There is a reason there is a 330i tune and a 328i tune.

The E90 330i is the exact same engine as the 328i but it comes with A: Everything you added -and- B: a computer program set to constrict the engine power in various ways..much like how your car has a "govenor" or top speed being set by a peice of computer software. This can be changed, as well as most of evrything else. Its called A TUNE if that hasnt become appearent yet
Just bought a 2007 330ise for £2000 and it done 132000 miles full service history,1owner,it's like a new car and it's fast and I've had cosworths,st229s and a selection of 80s,90s,2000s turbo and normally aspirated sports cars and the e90 is the best driving car I've had,it's also faster than most of the cars I've had,my first BMW and I'm very happy with it

The tune is literally the whole mod. It wont be any faster without it but with it its noticeably faster. It doesnt help that you were is Drive and not DS which made you kickdown into 3rd from 40mph instead of 2nd from 40mph which is where it is actually in power.

I'm just waiting to see how the guy over at /Drive building his 128i will have issues with smog in Southern California. If it's something where we can just have a state referee say it's fine with a factory spec tune (basically just an E90 330i tune, along with countless other fully optioned N52 cars), then I'll head off to a Pick-n-Pull or similar and grab the 3SIM.
I’m researching a supercharger kit for the 328i. The 3 stage Intake Manifold is required along with a full custom tune to get the most out of it. So it’s work it if you’re putting that SC kit.

adds new part, plugs stuff in ,doesn't tell the computer the part even exists, bashes product. the tune is required, as you will see little to no gains on most parts if you don't tell the computer that something is different.
This one is very slow. You may have some mixture regulation problem. The catalytic converter error will show up after ca. 50 miles. Usually 3IM adds ca. 20HP on a healthy engine.
@ChromeN9ne I don't know where you're getting your quotes from, but I've seen the upgraded aluminum repair kits for $53USD for a set of 2 with gaskets. I've seen them lower than that, but I'm dubious of the quality. Alternatively, if you're handy, you could easily use green sand to create a mold and cast the part yourself. It takes some practice, but there's nothing particularly difficult or cost-preventative to doing it.

Hey everyone dont be put off by Nathans results of the manifold swap. The manifold requires dme tuning to bring the power up. Getting more power costs money. Its not cheap.
Also to add to what others already said, Noone spends $200 or $1000 or even $500 on this swap. All you need is to buy a used manifold with Disas of some partout guy, Plus you need a cable, a laptop that you likely already have and couple of hours of messing with it. The tune you install stock from a 330 which is free up on forums. If you want to spend more money , yes you may buy a tune that will be somewhat advanced than the regular one.
Sure, it's all well and good for an E90 guy to just say "just get a 330i." The E91 and E82 never had that engine packaging, and that's part of the fun of the mod-- doing what BMW didn't, and should have to begin with. I have an E82. And having an already lighter, smaller car, I know I'm enjoying it more than a similarly powered and geared E90 or E91 because of it-- add in the manifold and tune, and the 330i would still be a moot point for the same reasons. The smaller, more nimble platform will be even more of a weapon. A manifold is an easy trip to a half dozen parts places where I can grab it my self locally for $200-300 (if I had to guess). Some new DISA's to make sure they're fresh and correct, and the tune... yeah, it's pricier than sticking with the crapshoot in some roached-out X3 donor. But it saves a little bit, and would remove the variable of them being bad.

What matters is the air going in the engine not the air going out. Back in the days, the only time well oversize our manifold pipes is after we port our cylinder heads. I dont even know why that this is a trend nowadays. Why would you even start changing manifolds, intakes, exhaust systems if u ain't got no work done on your engine. Engine! Damn it. Cams, port holes valves, pistons! Exhaust pipes and manifolds ain't part of what's inside your engines d!@#$ies!

Hey did you ever get the 330i tune done? I ask because you can flash it for free to a 330i from bimmerlabs website. The 328i flash is only good for 230hp and the 330i flash is good for 260hp as you probably know. Disa works on both flashes but has no hp gain on the 328i flash if your started with a 328i non disa. I may try this soon taking a 128i to a 130i and might poke at you and dean for some knowledge.
Joshua Pena catless headers, larger exhaust, 330i maf less euro tune with 3stage intake manifold, valvetronic shims(milvs) - this should take you to 300 or close to. If thats not enough put the supercharger in it.

Lately I’ve been having issues with my 09 328i. When I put the pedal to the floor it starts to go, and then around 3000+ rpm mark it’s start to make a rattling noise and hesitates. When it does that it starts to spit out white exhaust smoke. It also smokes heavier white smoke when I brake quit quickly. It’s burning around 1 litre of oil every 400km. I had changed my valve cover in February as I had a gasket leak and the cover was cracked

With the intake and manifold change, you need a ecu map.

I gained 45 HP to the wheels putting me at 275 WHP on my E93 328

CarGuy66 I had similar issues too, check for fuel leaks, dirty air filter, dirty MAF sensor, throttle body or MAP sensor

For real. I have a 2008 328xi 6MT completely stock besides racing pedals and a short shifter with 85K miles on it and I would toast that car. What has he done to that car? Geez.
