For all you kids out there that were not around in the 70’s, Deep Purple were one of the first hard rock bands to come out of the 60’s. After having made several good albums in 1968 and 1969, they turned it up and came out with the first hard, hard rock album of all time, IN ROCK. Ritchie Blackmore, the guitarist, was the driving force behind the band. He, along with Jon Lord and Ian Paice, were the best in the business on their respective instruments (guitar, keyboards and drums). I saw them many times in concert and they were the most exciting band to watch.
I had the pleasure of seeing Deep Purple a couple of times. By far the loudest band, ever. My ears were sacrificed for the awesome experience of their fiery, intense performances. There will never be another era like this...real music in every way!
Never clicked so fast! Thanks India, Deep Purple is my favourite band, Glenn Hughes is my fav singer, and California Jam was amazing show! Lead singer- David Coverdale has deep bluesy voice, and backing singer- bassist Glenn Hughes has fantastic high and clear soul voice. And now- he is 68 and still singing like that, i don't know how it could be possible, because Cocerdale lost his voice long ago, great Ian Gillan (another singer in DP) lost his precious voice, but not Glenn. Here- in 1974 he has only 21 years old- the youngest in the band, and amazing leader, singer and bassist!
The Greatest Live band a long with early Rainbow. Ritchie is a gift from the Guitar God. Ritchie helped more musicians and singers become Stars than any other.
Real musicians ..great music that they created and top-notch talent.. you just felt the power of deep purple.. this is why this era of music is so revered. And that is why this music has been remembered from way back in the early 70s and today’s music will be forgotten about 30 40 years from now.

While a great performance as a whole band, I just love Glenn Hughes on bass and backing vocals. This is a stellar performance and I just can help watching and listening to Glenn specifically every time I watch this clip. I must have watched this Deep Purple clip at least 50 times. I learnt to play the bass line to Burn after watching this live version.
That David Coverdale he is the signer of Whitesnake his own band, but he was the signer of Deep Purple at one time. Deep Purple and Whitesnake are two of my favorite bands of all time. My number 1 though is Rush. Some of my favorite bands are LED Zeppelin, Yes, Genesis, Queen, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and many more.
The first California Jam .. there was 250,000 people there that was tickets sold ..estimated people that went there was about 400,000. the bassist was singing the high parts
From the album of the same name. The addition of Coverdale and Hughes bought a soul/funk element into the band. But Ritchie Blackmore couldn't hang and left shortly afterwards.
Great reaction to my favourite Deep purple song. When this band split up a number of new bands were formed. Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore formed Rainbow which you already reacted to, Singer David Coverdale formed Whitesnake. Can you react to a Whitesnake song please, options are Here I go Again, Don't Break My Heart Again, Love Ain't No Stranger
A song called "Soldier Of Fortune" shows a different side of this line-up. Both the main singer David Coverdale and guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, who composed the song have performed it later on their careers throughout the years. Please check that out :)
I love Deep Purple. I've been listening to them since high school ('79 to '83). Blackmore, the guitar player left, for the last time, in '96...I think, and after that I more or less lost interest. They have so many good songs and albums. If your interested on your own you might want to watch the full show of this performance (California Jam 74). The fictional character in the song is a woman who is offspring of a devil. This is the title track of the album Burn which was about two weeks old when this was recorded and it featured a new singer and a new bassist who also did singing parts. The blending of the two voices is awesome. This is the third line up of Deep Purple. Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
Dig those bell bottoms! After Deep Purple broke up, the lead guitar player, Ritchie Blackmore, formed the band Rainbow, which scored a minor hit with their cover of "Since You've Been Gone." (not the Kelly Clarkson song). I'm guessing that rainbow prop on stage ended up with Blackmore after Deep Purple broke up... As for this song, it's loud, it's fast, it goes all the way to eleven, if you know what I mean. This isn't one of my top Deep Purple cuts. If you've already checked out "Smoke on the Water", check out "Space Truckin'" or "Highway Star" or even "Hush" or "Woman from Tokyo." Fun fact, the original lead singer of Deep Purple, Ian Gillan, sang the role of Jesus in the original recording of Jesus Christ Superstar back in 1970.
