I think people are reading way too much into this helmet situation. I took it as meaning that hiding his face makes reading his thoughts harder to do because you can’t look into his eyes, not that the helmet itself is blocking the force.
Kylo Ren wears a helmet for very similar reasons, to hide any sign of emotion on his face and to make himself harder to read…the eyes are the window to the soul, and if you can’t see them it’s almost like your facing a shadow.

Came here to say something similar. If you don't know their expression/identity/their whole deal it is harder to read them. It's not physically blocking the force or anything like that

The mere fact that the helmet and vambrace was made from (whatever that magical metal is called), is explanation enough. It blocks the Force. Got it. Moving on. Nothing has ever said Darth Vader or Kylo Ren's helmets are made from this. I think the reason his helmet looks so "thrown together" is because he scrounged every little bit of this rare metal he could find to make it. Not like you can just choose to make your helmet from this stuff. Besides... still not as goofy as the Force-deflecting critter Thrawn wore as a stole in the comics.

@@timellison847 Actually, since The Force is "energy", and Cortosis absorbs energy, I think THAT helmet could block Qimir's thoughts from being read. The rest of his body was open to Sol, so he could sense the familiar presence. But @lvbo sums up quite well why others wear a helmet.

Is everyone skipping over the fact that the Jedi haven’t fought an equal fighter in the galaxy to them in 900 years. They have grown lax and ridged in their fighting style. A hardened warrior will most likely be more skilled.

Darth Maul used the term "We" when plotting with Palpatine about revealing themselves, thereby calling himself a Sith as well. Granted, it was to his master, but it definitely means that he considered himself one at that point. I still think that Quimir is on the ambitious side of apprenticeship, making his actions seem aggressive.

So one thing that you missed in talking about the Bugs attacking Qimir only and not everyone with a lightsaber during the fight, the bugs were NOT in that area during the majority of the fight. Osha disturbed 1 bug when they were travelling thru the forest to find Kalnacca's home. That one bug was attracted to Sol's lightsaber. Osha and Yord had to pass that area on the way back to the ship, and seeing the awake swarm gave Osha the idea, so she then lead the swarm to the fight location using Pip's light. The swarm is probably territorial which is why they had to be led. And Osha put Pip's head on Qimir so that even if he knew to turn off his lightsaber, the swarm would still be attracted to him as food. Its not goofy when you remember all the details and context.

Might this scenario be plausible: Darth Plagueis' base of operations (either permanently or temporarily) is on Brendok. He is there because he learned of/felt what the Coven is doing and is trying to learn from them (or he's teaching them what he and Darth Tenebrous learned related to manipulation of the Force to create life). Either way, that could explain how the Coven has a laboratory-like facility within their fort/monastery. Furthermore, Plagueis' presence in the Force could also be masked due to what the Coven had been doing, so the Jedi would only be wise to what the Coven was up to.
His presence on the planet could also possibly be an explanation for the fire and destruction which kicked off this particular tale. Think of it this way: Jedi got too close, Coven got careless, need to scorch the earth to get the Jedi off the scent. Since the Jedi believed that the whole monastery of the Coven was wiped out, Plagueis could, in peace, continue to operate in the background while his presumed apprentice, Qimir (Let's call him Darth ???, for the moment), is out and about training/minding Mia.
All of this could possibly lead to the reveal of Darth P as the "Big Bad" and bring the Muun Sith Lord into canon. In my head, this reveal would be something akin to Cad Bane's reveal in "The Book of Boba Fett."
    Thoughts?

I don't think all helmets block mind reading, but that his does (might have something to do with the stuff that shorts out lightsabers woven into it), just like wearing a helmet doesn't prevent Professor X from mind controlling a person, but wearing Magneto's specific helmet does.
Also, I think "mind reading" is a mischaracterization of what Luke is doing when he senses the goodness within his father.

Also, we established that the bugs are attracted to light sources ins the previous episodes (with the one being drawn to Sol's lightsaber), yet despite the start of the episode having nine active lightsabers at the start of the episode, the bugs only react when Osha sticks the light source on Qimir's back. What the hell? I mean, I get they'd ruin the cool (and rather long fight scene), but they should've _incorporated_ the surrounding terrain/animals into the fight (have Qimir deflecting blows with his cortosis vambrace and helmet and then letting one of the Jedi get yoink'd by the hungry bugs instead of have using them to whisk him away when it's convenient for the plot.
Inconsistent writing between episodes is one thing, but 4-5 were reportedly done by the same group of writers and filmed together (should've made it one big hour long episode imo). That means the writers can't even stay consistent from scene to scene!

Seeing the Sith powerful is one thing, I understand rooting for them as underdogs and wanting to see them be very powerful and unexpectedly dominating their opponents. That being said the power levels seemed a bit off so far, if the Sith can wipe the floor with the Jedi so easily and the Jedi wouldn't react, it would make the whole Master Plan of the Sith a bit pointless in my mind.
To compare, in Legends Bane has a fight with a squad of five Jedi at the peak of his power. Four of them were battle-hardened Jedi Master veterans of the New Sith Wars, including a Battle Meditator/Healer, and one was a Jedi Knight and previous Padawan of Lord Hoth. Bane doesn't defeat this group of enemies himself, he does so together with his Apprentice Zannah, and crucially protected by his Orbalisk armor. I guess the Cortosis plays a similar role in this case, and Mae the role of Zannah. That being said, I still think the show is stretching a bit what a pair of Sith should be able to reasonably do. Due to the rule of two the Sith were supposed to get stronger down the Baneite line, even if Bane himself was the Sith'ari, and stronger in this case didn't neccessarily stronger in a direct fight with the Jedi. Rather they would be more cunning, more manipulative and better able to execute the Master Plan (hence Palpatine). The Jedi are also supposed to be weaker closer to the Prequels, although you would expect some to be veterans from fighting the Nihil. These Jedi were trained after invoking the Guardian Protocols, hence their less ornate lightsabers compared to the High Republic era, so the idea that they were just not expecting Sith and therefore were not vigilant isn't really accurate. They would as always be very careful of the Dark Side, they would be very well trained to fight, even if not specifically the Sith, and they would be a little shaken after the conflict with the Nihil. This fearfulness is something that the show doesn't convey well enough, although you do see it in the odd behaviour of Vernestra and Sol. It doesn't come across because the show is trying too hard to make the Jedi seem incompetent and prideful rather than fearful and nuanced.
For me the power levels in this episode are not quite right. But everything considered, they aren't ridiculuous or laughable either, they are just stretched a bit close to the edge of what would be credible. If anything, Mae killing two Jedi masters by herself in the first few episodes is what is the surprising part. The reason why Mae was so powerful is probably the Dyad, and the reason why this particular set of Masters (Indara, Torbin, Kelnacca, Sol) is vulnerable is whatever happened on Brendock.

So far what the show reveals is that the Jedi masters are stupid and detached from their fellow Knights so that all they needed was for two to force push the Sith off of his feet to gain the advantage needed to take him out. Instead they take turns being destroyed while the "master" watches like an idiot.

    I don't think he is a Sith.
    Here's the lines...
    Sol-"What are you?"
Smilo REN-" I don't know, but a Jedi like you might call me Sith."
He just told him he's something else, something new and unknown. Which tracks with what the director said about new territory.

Episode 5 is only strong if you’re easily distracted by shiny things. The notion that the action rivals the Phantom Menace or that it’s dark….
First off… a lot of the episode is the racist lead running away in the woods. It’s absurd to even compare this choreography to that of Revenge of the Sith. Jeckie does a spinning move that’s cool, but that’s it. We have very little emotional investment in the characters that died (or the ones that lived) so there’s no sense of loss.
I’m sure Mauler will go over all the ways this show fails, and as much as you sycophants want us to go away, the MAJORITY of us were here long before you so piss right off!

The Jedi of his era are shown to be much more passive and peaceful than the ones from the clone wars. They don't draw their lightsabers easily, they are not aggressive - and that makes them easy prey for a Sith. They are absolutely not trained for this. If there had been a few Clone Wars era Jedi in their place, Quimir might have lost the bout.

  • @kovie9162

In the sequel trilogy Kylo Ren, who was wearing a robe and helmet very similar to Qimir's in the Acolyte, and very powerful, but also impetuous and undisciplined, and tried to recruit Rey as his apprentice, had a master, Snoke, but it turned out that Snoke was either Palpatine's apprentice or proxy.
Perhaps that's what's going on here, and Qimir, also impetuous and undisciplined, has a master, but that master themself has a master, who's the actual one pulling all the strings. Darth Plagueis?
I'm not sure what purpose having this many levels of master/apprentice serves. The purpose in the sequel trilogy was to misdirect us from how Palpatine survived and was the force behind all the events that played out. But what purpose would it serve here? Yet more misdirection, but from what?
I suspect that Qimir's master is the twins' birth mother, Mother Koril, who survived the events of episode 3 and vowed revenge, recruiting a young and vulnerable force user, Qimir, to her cause, and training him in dark side skills so he could carry out her revenge, which for some reason she couldn't or preferred not to carry out herself, perhaps because she was too injured by these events.
But she herself has a master, whether she realizes it or not, who was behind the tragic events of episode 3 and set it all up to weaken the Jedi by using Koril, Qimir and the twins in a larger scheme.
I'm probably wrong, but it just can't be that the buck stops with Qimir. There's a lot more going on here and he's ultimately just someone else's proxy and stooge, like Kylo Ren, Snoke and Dooku.

I really don’t think the helmet thing is that complicated. Maybe it is some sort of dark side relic with the supposed power to block force users from reading his mind, but more likely it’s what everyone else is saying. It’s much harder to know what someone is thinking and feeling when you can’t see their face and eyes. Look at the Mandalorians more specifically the Children of the Watch. True they wear their helmets for very difgerent reasons, but the point remains the same. It’s much harder to tell whay they’re thinking with their faces hidfen. It’s a huge advantage.
