True consistency loving star wars fans (the people that only like andor and also maybe rogue only in Disney wars) need to be careful about the references to legends because the shills use that as a shill shield without telling you of the division that took place between the writers... Just like in the 30s to 60s in Hollywood, the EU was divided into two groups, good writers and idealogues (bad writers) and since this took place before the comic and adaptation novel industries got overran completely by the idealogues in the early 2010s, we actually got a lot of good stories that a lot of people didn't notice the divide but there were a lot of bad stories.... So be careful of trusting an idea just because they say it's from legends...

It’s a spin on a Chinese story. Smilo REN was the first child conceived by manipulating the Force. The witches could not have a boy so they tried to dispose of him. Somebody found him, saved him from death, Sol, who gave him away when he still was a baby. Somebody trained him and he returned to get his revenge on the witches. Upon discovering that the witches had been killed years ago, he sought out revenge. At some point he had learned the truth of his past. Upon leaving the temple he runs into Mae, he can sense something familiar. He does'nt tell her and at some point he manipulates her to be his Acolyte and unknowingly, carry out his plan for revenge. He blames Sol who he feels also abandoned him. Not only that but he blames Sol and the Jedi for robbing him the chance to confront the witches. Or this is Headland, telling her life story through a 180 million dollar, Star Wars train wreck. Her past is conveniently missing from internet bios.

I'm pretty sure most of what Platoon & co. interpret as inconsistent characterization in shows like this is in actual fact just the inconstant flightiness of the female writing staff being accurately depicted on screen.
(Which is why none of them think it scans as nonsensical, or embarrassing.)

    • @pendaflux

The fact that can’t even imagine that the lesbian witches are portrayed with ambiguity despite the fact that Mei and Osha are clearly not OK, shows your allegiance to a belief that an agenda is at work. CLEARLY both the Jedi and the witches are portrayed as problematic.

I still find the dialogue between the mothers hilarious, because it technically gives the "Father" all authority over their children.
      Horns - "I Carried Them!"
ForeheadTattoo - "Well I Created them!"
Which not only shuts up horns, but allows Forehead to have final say in all authority over the children.
IMHO - There is an easy way to fix the writing, and keep the Twins and Anakin's uniqueness. Either Artificial Insemination, or Horns was knocked up by a traveling man, then Forehead used the Force/Thread to manipulate the embryo into a force sensitive, female child/twins. There by keeping their uniqueness in creation and birth, and keeping Anakin force born (through Palpatines manipulations according to cut Episode 3 Movie Dialogue)

@@elyrienvalkyr8167 I mean to be fair it's a fairly old problem in action shows/movies. They want big epic fight scenes with lots of enemies but lack the ability to plan it out in a way that makes any kind of sense.
That said they are Jedi, some of them know each other very well and with the force can pretty much read each others minds. They should be able to fight in such a way that they never get in each others way and act as one single force.
Parying blows for allies, ducking strikes you can't see so your ally behind you can attack and so on. Sadly "The best fight ever" had Jedi act like a bunch of street thugs with led pipes in a drunken brawl.

When Mike Holmes finds a bookshelf isn't level, it tells him the people who built the house were incompetent, so he starts to pry apart the drywall and finds the roof leaks, the electrical isn't grounded, the the foundation was never completed, and carbon monoxide is being piped into the master bedroom.

But then you miss the fact that the Jedi arent really stubborn and are genuinely humble, the fact that the entire scene would still be generally shite and then the fact they still showhorned in a rare af material to make daggers with. Not to also mention that Platoon also admitted that deflecting daggers is a fucking stupid idea to begin with.

A stab wound isn't going to kill a Jedi. Lightsabers don't inflict stab wounds, they burn a hole through you, cauterizing the injury, ensuring that it can't be easily healed, while cooking adjacent flesh and organs with your own fluids.
The Force should grant inhuman durability, strength, speed, and endurance, as well as the ability to recover from conventional injuries. That's the most basic benefit to it.

There was no subversion or unexpected character fates, we stated before the the show's release that this MUST happen for in-universe coherency to be preserved and it *kind of* did happen, that's all.

Imagine if they showed that the big force push had thrown Jecki and Sol into a rock and temporarily knocked them out (explaining their absence) leaving Yord to take command and organize the rest of the less experienced Jedi to take on the Sith ; giving him a moment to shine. Imagine a brief conversation earlier between Sol and Yord about how Sol was the only master in the group and the rest were all only new knights and students, raising the stakes of that moment. Imagine if during a lull in the battle one of them yelled out to the rest “avoid hitting the armor, it disables our sabers” showing this has taken them by surprise, raising the tension. Imagine if each time a saber got disabled it immediately resulted in the death of that Jedi, causing them to only use the sabers for blocking and giving them an actual reason to use all those kicks and elbows. Imagine if, when Jecki fights the Sith alone she is clearly outmatched and Sol only arrives just in time to see her lose her entire right arm. Imagine he saves her by force pulling her light saber from her severed limb into his left hand and stands over her body wielding duel light sabers. Imagine Jecki cradling the stump of her right arm, suddenly drawing the Wookiee’s saber from her side with her left hand, joining in with Sol to form a 3 saber assault on the Sith, driving him back; showing Jecki as a bad ass not by her undeserved superior ability but by her spirit, courage, determination, and loyalty to comrades. I wonder if anyone at Disney thought about the implications of this magic material. Wasn’t Dave Filoni supposed to prevent this stupidity?

    • @wolfscar5557
      @wolfscar5557 7 месяцев назад +7

Tbf, the whole 'being expensive' thing is kind of a moot point, given the Galactic Empire was doing a bunch of stuff that would cost a whole lot of credits. They were able to build 2 Death Stars, while still having a massive fleet, paying for personnel and so on and so forth. The only reason they didn't mass produce the TIE Defender, was because of Grand Admiral Zaarin and the fact the facilities were destroyed which severely reduced the production of the TIE Defender.
Well that and the Empire realized, if a Grand Admiral was going rogue, that could be a problem and you don't want a great ship like the Defender falling into enemy hands.
The Empire still produced the Defender, but only in limited quantities. The Defender wasn't just cut out because it was expensive.
At least that's the explanation and story reason they gave for the Defender in the EU, which at least makes some semblance of sense. Not sure what Disney Canon has done.
Being pricey is kind of a moot point when you control the galaxy and thus being able to get however much money. Money really never mattered to the Empire, because they always had some crazy thing going on with building something extremely powerful, only for it to end up not being used for one reason or another, or at best used in limited quantities.

You know how the voice actors always sound vaguely ashamed and embarrassed in English Anime dubs? Or the way adults sound when they have to play with children and make the child’s toys “talk”? The acting in this show reminds me of that. Between the bad writing and the cringe line delivery, there is no possible way for a viewer to be immersed in this story.

1:38:55 Thank you. I'd also like to suggest that she's being let down by directors and editors too. Take, for example, Osha's reaction to Yord's death - that was absolutely the director's job to say "hey Amandla, a guy you grew up with just had his neck snapped right in front of you, we're gonna need a bit more from you than 'slightly startled'"; or (and/or), the editor went through all the footage and decided that this was the best reaction shot to Yord's death - no horror, no grief, just another of the multitudinous wide-eyed intakes of breath, and that the next shot of her, literally 5 seconds later, would show that she'd already completely gotten over even that level of emotion.
The directors have a responsibility to coax better performances out of the cast. When one actor is bad, that's an actor issue; when it's bad across the board, that's a director issue. (In the case of Lee Jung Jae, and in ep5, Manny Jacinto and Dafne Keen, I think what has happened is the same as Liam Neeson in TPM - they've managed to turn in a solid, lively, 3D performance _despite_ the director(s) rather than due to the director(s)).
I watched The Hate U Give, the other day, to see what all the shouting was about. Turns out Amandla _can_ act - she's not great, but she's good; I found it, overall, a strong performance, convincingly emotive and actually rather likeable. And utterly incongruous with her performance here.
The writing of her two characters is basically: one sister who is "nice" in a bland sort of way, who spouts largely stilted dialogue (barring the occasional and frustratingly fleeting moment where she talks like someone might actually talk "Sol, why did he say I shouldn't trust you?"), and whose level of investment in the goings-on of the story vary wildly from scene to scene; the other sister who is such a bewildering mess of an anti-character that it beggars belief; at best, she's a cipher, at worst she's a plot device who does whatever the plot needs her to do. Her only consistent character traits are: inconsistent, unlikeable, and increasingly cowardly.
The head-scratching aspect of this is compounded enormously when you read that this is not an pre-existing role(s) that she was casted in, but rather, a role(s) that Headland wrote with Amandla _specifically_ in mind. This would be like spending years writing a song with the intention of having a specific vocalist perform it, and then not really caring how the vocals turned out.
The sisters' relationship is supposed to be the heart of the story, instead, it's the chief failure of the entire production. The story of two sisters who have gone down different paths and are trying-and-failing to reconcile has enormous potential, and when done well, can be hugely compelling - take Arcane's central story, for example - a story with an alarming amount of parallels to the Acolyte's, that succeeds on every level that the Acolyte fails. If Headland was going to 'borrow' from other stories, then f*ck Kill Bill and Frozen; Arcane is the story she should have studied/lifted from.

Her decision to just bail on her sister, and then pretend to be her, while leaving Osha stranded on a strange planet was baffling given her stated motivation. Despite that, it’s still not the most inexplicable shift in her goals and motivation, and her constantly need to do things that directly contradict her stated goals.
I wonder if having one actress play two characters is somehow confounding the writing process, as bizarre as that is. If you’re confusing the actress and the character, maybe you’re not noticing how little you’ve done to explore of half of the twins. That would be a bizarre circumstance, but everything they’ve done with her has been so bizarre. I’d say it’s even somehow worse than any of the bad characterization from Ahsoka, which was a baffling mess as well.
