I'd be surprised if Ahsoka S2 wasn't about Abeloth. After the Mortis reveal in the S1 finale, it felt like it was the plan all along. The character of Shin Hati, the casting of Ivanna Sakhno, and the unique look they gave her for the show made it easy in my mind to picture her becoming Abeloth.

How open I am to Acolyte s2 will depend on how this season wraps up. But right now I’m definitely not opposed to it. I also heard the Baylan recasting and Abaloth rumor. I’m not opposed to Baylan being recast as long as they choose his replacement carefully. I also think it would be awesome to bring Abaloth into canon. Though I’m not sure how I feel about it being one of the witches. I’ve heard of Trakada. Can’t you use it in Fallen Krder?

@StarWarsMeg I thought Jecki's choreography was brilliant - and yes, I think you _may_ be biased... Dafne was dancing like no-one was watching. That fight sequence was so fluid. Epic. Certianly the best in modern Star Wars.

I applaud them for shooting for the stars because they nearly reached it. I think there was more at stake in TPM and I cared about the characters. Honestly I was more interested in the choreography than who lived or died. I must say Qimir is the most ruthless darksider I have seen in live action (Yes, more than Rogue One Vader). I wish they would have extended the series just to develop the other Jedis a little more, maybe them discussing the mission on the ship, flesh them out more so that more was at stake in the battle. The Battle and particular Qimir made me more interested in the final episodes.

I had been holding my judgment back until his reveal and for the reveal of the mystery of the past thats still there because that is what would make or break the show. So far. He delivered. I want more of his character. As long as the dont flop the answer to what happened with the witches they'll have done well.

I'm willing to bet mad money that both Baylan Skoll and Abeloth will appear in Ahsoka season 2. I would DEFINITELY take that bet! And Abeloth will not be what anyone is expecting, because the entire story written about her is in complete conflict with the Mirtis Trilogy in Clone Wars, THE ENTIRE STORY. (The writer very obviously misinterpreted what he saw.) Dave Filoni actually kept on making a way in the first season of Ahsoka to include a version of Abeloth that will not interfere with the logic of the Mortis Trilogy in the least. Baylan doesn't know it yet, but he's been hoodwinked, bamboozled, led astray, run amok, and flat out deceived by someone, Abeloth, "calling" him with a false motive. I can't wait to see how it works out.

I have really been enjoying your even-handed coverage of this show this season. I wish Leslye had not made the comparison to TPM because I do think it was a great overall fight - but the comparison diminished it. That being said, I actually think Leslye puts in a lot of thought to her decisions for the series, whether the audience agree/likes them or not. I’m glad she is putting as much as she can into the first season because are no guarantees in Star Wars these day, that’s for sure.

I nominate Nick Offerman for Baylan's recast. Lol, to Russell Crowe. I actually DID think that the lightsaber fight(s) met The Phantom Menace standard. And the only reason it didn't surpass it was because it was at night, and the moves were not clearly visible. Nothing tops the duel of the fates music, but the music doesn't make the fight. The absolute brutality Quimir put on display isn't getting enough credit, either. Especially for a Disney show. And even though the tree blocked the view, he decapitated the double-impaled Jedi with that last swing. That's the other reason I thought this saber battle met TPM standards: the newness and creativity of the moves, plus TPM's fight looked a little TOO choreographed in some scenes.

Forget The Acolyte for a moment, *ABELOTH* is the big news I heard yesterday and then the recasting for Baylan. Casting for The Mother now makes me excited for Ahsoka S2! I hope Disney hires horror script writers for it. Make it spooky like when Qimir came down like he's Batman '89 right behind Osha. Abeloth could be the greatest villain we will ever see in Star Wars lore.
Fans will accept she's a FEMALE character too if they know Legends or her origin story that gets talks about a lot on RUclips. I always imagined Abeloth to be similar to Countess Elizabeth Báthory in Stay Alive (2006). Make it even more brutal than what Qimir just did to 7 Jedis in Khofar. Let her go on a killing spree. I could imagine many females trying to cosplay as her once she's finally in live action form. Dress up as the most powerful character in Star Wars EU lore.
Going back to The Acolyte, is Qimir or whatever his name is a deadlier Sith than even Darth Maul? I saw Maul kill one Jedi in The Phantom Menace. Smilo Ren killed 7 of them and it was 1 vs. 8 and not 1 vs. 2. But without a lightsaber, Sol seems to be the better fighter. Koreans do have their taekwondo, us Filipinos have only arnis/eskrima/kali. That fight choreography might have been the best we've seen in Star Wars since the Nick Gillard Prequel Era.
Erik Voss said yesterday in his breakdown video that Manny did most of his moves in that episode. It wasn't mostly a double. That was mostly him underneath that. He trained hard for it for months. Erik made a good point yesterday. The reason why the lightsaber fights in the Sequel Trilogy sucks is because which Jedis are out there to train them? This is why Kylo Ren and Rey can swing a lightsaber so wildly like a child swinging a baseball bat with no discipline.
I heard from Daisy that the lightsabers were heavy to carry. The OG Trilogy has the same excuse although action scenes in the 70s and 80s were still quite primitive from Americans that hadn't adopted Hong Kong's martial arts style for their movies until the mid to late 90s. In the Prequels, the Jedis were still in their heyday. Nick Gillard and throw in wushu world champion, Ray Park, made sure the lightsaber looked like an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.
I've replayed Qimir killing Jecki so many times already that I've lost count. Three quick stabs to make sure she's dead so Dafne can go work on Deadpool and Wolverine. 😂 One stab wasn't enough to kill the Grand Inquisitor, Reva, or Sabine. And even though the identity of Smilo Ren was so obvious, when we see his face after he killed Jecki was really cool. I guess Jecki had to elbow his helmet off just to have an unveiling like that. The Sith kebab scene was just a flex before Manny truly flexed. 💪🏻
Charlie from Emergency Awesome has a theory that Qimir was present during the Brendok fire. It seems Qimir already met Sol before but Sol does not remember him. And it's not referring to when they met in Ep. 2. Like Qimir knew Sol from way before and maybe that's when his hatred for the Jedis originated. Theories that Qimir might have been Sol's padawan prior. Notice the burn marks on Qimir's arms. I thought they were tattoos at first but they look like burn marks.
On my second viewing, I notice the marking on his back matches the marking on the tree to the right. This is when Qimir sees Osha on the ground. So the early theories is Mae becomes a Jedi and Osha becomes the Acolyte. I personally hope they don't kill off Qimir but they might. He can be useful for future shows. Be the pioneer of the Knights of Ren. We need more Sith happening in our lives. I came to watch The Acolyte for the Sith. That's the original synopsis we read from it about 4-5 years ago. I didn't come to watch it for Jedis and lesbian witch covens.
"I accepted my darkness. What have you done with yours?"
Smilo Ren: the greatest Sith I've ever seen in the Disney era. But then he kinda let's Sol beat him in hand-to-hand combat to show Sol's darkness and to help Osha turn.
While The Acolyte is NOT great, I am grateful that Disney let a Filipino actor (Asian Ezra Miller as some call him) be a Sith and an instant fan favorite. My Filipinos can finally be more than just being Ned in MCU Spider-Man. Eugene Cordero as Casey in Loki. Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth. Manny Jacinto as Qimir/nameless Sith. Filipinos are finally moving on up! 🇵🇭
So I was looking at some SW toys yesterday and while I know how much people hate The Rise of Skywalker and The Acolyte, I actually would love a toy of Babu Frik and Bazil. I think Bazil looks adorable. He reminds me of my mom's dog. And I love Babu Frik going heyheyy! 🤣 While The Last Jedi is actually the better movie, I enjoyed The Rise of Skywalker thanks to characters like Babu Frik and D-O. I hope Keri Russell returns in some capacity as Zorii Bliss. Keri is prettier when she reached her 40s than her 20s.
The Sequel Trilogy and Disney+ SW series are hated now. But maybe in another 15-20 years, a new generation raised by it will grow to love it like what happened to the Prequels. We still got Andor from it. And The Mandalorian S1 and S2. Hasn't been all that terrible. If we get Abeloth, that might be the character we need for Star Wars to make a great comeback.
What I'm looking forward to in SW -
    Andor S2
    Abeloth in Ahsoka S2
    Dawn of the Jedi
Done. Don't really care about the Skeleton Crew but it could surprise and be fun. Don't care about the next Rey movie unless they add more interesting characters. Lukewarm for the Mandalorian & Grogu movie. Give me Andor S2, Abeloth, and Mangold's SW movie.

For Ashoka S2 I wonder if they will Deep fake Ray, over a body actor, or actually replace the actor with another. I'm looking forward to Season 2 in any case. If for no other reason than to see where Filoni is actually taking the story.
As for The Acolyte : A non-Star Wars story, I am 😕at the thought of a second season after Headland's $200M USD epic dumpster fire. I can't see any way that Disney's Board will throw away anything close to that again for a failed series. Let the horrifically bad fanfic parading as Star Wars just wither on the vine, imho.
Qmir (or Zipper-head?) wasn't a surprising reveal. The Marty Stu dominance was just ridonculous. He made Palpatine and Dooku look like unskilled younglings in comparison. Even the "Slaughter of the Lambs ...er... Jedi" fight scene was over-hyped and didn't compare well to the excitement, precision and entertainment of the Prequel Light-saber duels. This is particularly true of the epic "Duel of the Fates".
I think you have to be invested in some aspect of what this show represents, or just very undiscerning to proclaim The Acolyte a good production, let alone a good Star Wars production. The Poor writing, poor editing and poor acting aren't even up to normal featured streaming production standards, let alone a $200M USD major studio film production standard of quality, imho.

I'm wondering if Ms Headland means the train platform fight between Neo and Smith in the first Matrix film; not the one-sided smackdown between Neo and the Trainman as pictured. That would make more sense. I wonder if there is some mind-reading parallel there in Sol's exchange that references the difference in interpretation between the Sith and the Jedi? It would really blow my mind if The Acolyte featured The World Between Worlds and the Sith interpretation of that in light of Annikin's appearance there in Ahsoka. The Stranger or Darth Teeth, what would he think of Mortis or the WBW? I appreciate the scanning for cross-series lore, Disney would get extra points for that from the rebellious fandom, I would hope, because it is awesome lore development.

If George Lucas never considered the majority of the legends novels canon, then why should we? I hate to say it, but it simply isn't true that Disney changes canon (unless they're retconning Lucas' content). Not to mention Lucas himself was completely unshy about retcons. When Disney changes something from Legends or from a game, it's not changing canon.

With piling on , review bombing and the internet's fondness for hate and negativity. It's amazing any time and budget are wasted on America's next big hate. Something is better than nothing yes.
Just as many people hate the new releases as love it. The combat if not equal to Darth Maul in TPM. Was just below it. But you spin as a neg that it isn't the best scene, as if the second best is not worthy of mention. The combat scene was based off of your favorite scene. No applomb for knowing they attempted to honor that scene.
When did everyone become so nit picking and second best is considered shit now and worthless of 30 minutes of time. Obi-wan was great. But lately nothing is ever good enough anymore to please folks for at least a decent effort.
It is impossible for every minute of every Star Wars movie/series.... to be put under a microscope and compared to Avengers Endgame. Get some perspective and maybe lose some rigidness. It's getting old.

If Disney ties any of the new characters or new storyline in the Acolyte to any other series or movie, I think I’ll have to take my bow and be done with it. I thought Filoni would be the protector of George’s vision, but he and Disney seem to have decided they want a largely different audience than those who grew up with it before it was sold.

Considering the way the lore has been changed drastically in Acolyte, it's really hard to see how they could pull that off. Lore and storytelling in the Acolyte has been one of the worst parts of it. Even if Dave is trying to actively bring in retconned stories into canon, based on the first 5 episodes, really doubt it would be Acolyte S1 or S2 that could coherently do anything more than another "somehow Palpatine returned" deal. Ashoka S2 could definitely nod back to Acolyte in some ways, definitely can't wait to see how they do it with the recasts. That final scene and he's standing on the mountain statue gave me actual chills.

I've been watching The Acolyte this week and I am enjoying it. It's nowhere near as bad as people are making it out to be. It has some issues but on the whole it's a good show.

For Baylan, they should hire a person of similar height and build, use AI to get the voice accurate, as with Vader in Kenobi, use Deep Fake for his face. Nothing worse that using a replacement who doesn't resemble to previous actor.

Hi Meg, awesome news update, I think I will wait till the series has finished before I decide whether a 2nd series is required, a new Baylan in Ahsoka 2 will be great let's see who they choose to do him, I enjoyed the big fight in in episode 5 but it was not the best we have seen in Star Wars, what was different about the helmet to stop jedi reading his mind, when others who have helmets can still have their minds read, another Rey/Delay that is sad, thank you SWM

If i was Dave I would avoid any connection to the Acolyte not only because of its divisiveness among fans but also because many people didn’t watch it and don’t have the intention to do so , I want Ashoka to be much better than the first season and that can be achieve only with all the fans supporting it

    • @zlostnypopolnik
      @zlostnypopolnik 3 месяца назад +3

Not only among fans. I don't consider myself a big SW fan. I grew up on the old movies, I follow the action around this thing, but I don't have posters on my walls and I don't wear underwear with Yoda's face on it. I just like a good movie, a good series, a good game with a good story. Acolyte? It's an amateur cringe fest with political garbage. Just thinking about it gives me a headache.
Watch amateur films, they are much better, because they are made by fans who know their stuff and do not do it for money, but for the love of SW.

Agree and disagree. It can be better if it is simply a better story and with better writing. It can only achieve better 'success' with all fans supporting it. I think a better story garners more fan support and success. As divided as people in America are right now, I don't see any Star Wars show garnering 'all' fan support. There's too big a divide. But a good story that is well produced will win fans over.
