@idahopainter here’s a small tip on the pressure washing, get a ball valve and attach it from the hose to the spray gun. We use this to reduce the psi is needed but then also we can shut off the valve and pop the gun off, then open the ball valve and allow water to flow with the pressure washer still running while we do whatever small task we have to do (typically a 1-2min task)

Love your very meticulous approach. The way you consider every element of the job, from how much inventory to hold and how many types to consideration of every detail of the work technique is the sign of a true professional. Even if you're not going to paint your house, this video is a good instructional on how to just about organize and optimize every job. Great work. So nice to see this level of professionalism.
I just want to say that I'm glad to see that you're using a Titan 410 because that's what I have, though I've felt that I would have prefered having a Titan 440. I'm no professional and feel that the store salesman kinda talked me into the 410 when I initially wanted a 440. Anyway it worked as I painted my house last year but see where I have a couple areas to touch up this year.
Thanks for all the very valuable information! I do house soft washing part time, and I'm learning from you about painting. May I suggest that you don't use high pressure while cleaning the exterior? A pump up garden sprayer with 50/50 pool chlorine and water goes a very long way on cleaning a house. You can realistically use a garden hose to rinse it down
For straining, I tape the strainer on the bucket with it about 6-8" up from the bottom inside. Cut a small hole at the top near the seam and insert intake tube. If you have a bigger job, just keep pouring it in as needed and you keep your hands clean.
Excellent video. The detail and time you put into this is amazing! Hey, no shame in liking soft hands. I’m a plumber. My wife definitely prefers my hands being soft rather than rough from work.
Here’s a top tip as a painter and Decorator the last 40 plus years when you calk use a semi wet sponge and wipe the calk as you go along rinse the sponge every so often and theirs little or no sanding to do quicker in the long run.
Very detailed, thanks for the video. One tip I would give anyone, don't buy cheap caulk, and always, always, always have something to clean up with. I typically use OSI urethane caulking when I need a good caulk that is paintable. Silicone won't hold paint at all, urethane does. A cheaper alternative is latex with silicone added. That is also appropriate for something you need to paint, but do not ever trust latex paint outside. The lifespan of latex plus silicone is 3-5 years. Urethane lasts much longer. 10+ years, depending on weather. It even holds up in a shower very well. It outlasts silicone, but it is very sticky, and hard to clean up. So you need goof off or thinner, and I typically use latex gloves. Occasionally on big gaps you will need soapy water to smooth it as well. Something like 100 parts water, 1 part soap in a spray bottle. You need to caulk the whole gap, before spraying with soapy water, as it won't stick after its wet. Once you get good with a caulk gun, you will barely need to touch small gaps, big gaps you will need to tool it off. Caulking properly is very involved, and it's good to see someone actually cover it in detail. There are guys that only do caulking, especially on commercial jobs, waterproofing and caulking, sometimes glazing. Precast concrete and glazing jobs like a storefront, you can charge 2 bucks a foot plus materials, easily, as some of the gaps are 2 inches wide on precast installs and you need backer rod, a boom lift, buckets of caulk, etc etc. It's a big ordeal and worth tens of thousands of dollars on commercial buildings. Anyhow, I'm rambling, but thanks for the video, all the best.
Wow man you are very thorough I can appreciate that have you ever had problems with neighbors complaining about overspray on cars or their fence home etc.
I was in the coating and waterproofing materials business for a large manufacturer/consultant for 34 years. Last ladder I would use is the collapsible ladder Ive seen those things collapse more than once. Be Careful and dont let OHSA see ya!!
Just bought some of the products you recommend in this video, and I have been very impressed. I was painting my exterior for a long time without any good insight or tips on how to do it well or more efficiently. Thank you for providing this very valuable information! I’m happy you have affiliate relationships with some of the product vendors so that I’m able to support the work you do in making this knowledge and skills accessible to us. Thanks a million, and keep up the good work!
Great video! I’m doing some painting and was looking for tips. SIDING KNOWLEDGE: Please stop caulking the top of fenestrations where Z flashing exists (doors, windows, exhausts). The manufacturer specs for this James Hardie siding is to have at least 1/4” clearance between Z flashing and bottom of siding, and for there to be no caulk so it doesn’t wick moisture and swell like the other areas you pointed out. DO caulk the sides of those though, and start caulking the corners. Caulk verticals, never horizontal. Keep up the good work
For the soffit lights, I could design and 3d print some threaded light socket maskers. Might make things quicker for some jobs. I've used cut off ends of soda bottles to mask door knobs, good for interior spraying.
with only a couple different techniques, I would paint that house exactly like you did. Which is weird because if you get 12 painters, they have 12 different ways of doing the same thing, as you know, I'm sure. I've been a licensed painting contractor since 1995 in CT, CA, and now in FL. I've been subscribed since you started: Great Videos, keep at it and maybe some self described "painters" might just learn to do things the right way.
Cool idea with the numbers I just take a picture and deal with it later but if your spraying them that's cool placing them right in order and already ready to be sprayed.
Excellent video, thank you for taking the time to put it together. I really appreciate your willingness to share tips that help painters be more efficient, and earn a fair living, while also advocating for the best final product that can possibly be delivered to their customers. I had one question about the pressure washing, I noticed although you start at top and work down with gravity, you are aiming nozzle upwards at approximately 45 degree angle. Could this push water into places it's not supposed to go, causing issues later? Or is this a standard way to "soft wash" an exterior prior to painting? I understand the alternative, aiming the nozzle down, would require a ton more ladder/scaffold/lift time, but curious on your opinion.
Your spot on about washing down never go at an angle better still get up there with the timber and hand scrub it after all you don't wash your pots at home by running the tap over them .Also using caulk is not recommended on exterior surface as its water based and will break down even if over painted.
Exterior sheathing (the wood behind the sideing) is water resistant and can easily handle occasional water, so getting some water behind the siding is acceptable.
I’m also a professional painter, but would never have considered taking on such a large project myself, especially since I don’t like doing exteriors. You gave me the confidence to do it. Thanks Chris. 🙏
I'm a solo painter-20+yrs, the majority of my work is exteriors like this. I always have 2-3 shields ready so I don't have to stop. And always, always strain your paint before loading in the sprayer.
I never get used to a beautiful home that dosent have a basement. I know some environmental reasons as rock or high water but Id always want a basement!
Awesome video! Thank you... one tip I've found handy is just like you pressure wash from top down, I like to mask from the bottom up with the paper masking so the horizontal upper overlaps the horizontal and vertical lower masking and protects better from overspray as it falls
I bet all the fake shake ect is because most people cant afford real shake!this video is the best one on painting prep for exterior house ive seen to date!
3500 sq ft? I'm thinking 5k-ish. Maybe more, especially now days. Full caulk would be quite a bit more. Or just in general if the prep was harder. This house is in quite good shape so didn't need too much prep, even tho he did a good bit of it, it was on the easier side imo.
I'm not the cable guy or an electrical, but I can vouch for that hole in just about every home we re-side. It takes a $10 tube of caulk and 30 seconds. No excuse for siding installers, they should have the color match on hand. Homeowners should check theirs and call back which ever service, serviced that spot last.
bro keep the videos coming. i can see you dont have to work. but doing what your doing will keep you going. now your on the fun part of the trade. its all playtime now buddy
Great job am suscríbete to you Chanel , you are very professional and very clearly thank you again God bless you 👍🙏 I live in shout of California the whether is more hot and to draining 👍
hi. just want to give big thanks for all this effort. newbie painter here, this is all golden! if i may, it would really help if when you describe a condition that you describe (cracks, wear, chips - anything that needs treated or not treated), if possible if you could zoom in on that condition to show more detail of what's going on? all the same, your chanel is amazing and thank you so very much!
I LIKE YOUR VIDIOS THEY LET ME PAINT ON THERE HOUSES IN HOLLYWOOD HILLS AND SOMETMES I NEED A FEW TIPS OR POINTERS AND YOU NEVER EVER DISOPOINT ME.KEEP UP THE GOOD VIDIOS
I could have figured out everything on my own except frame connecting backboard to the 6x6 and your video zips through that part. I just pushed play on video and took pics of video with camera to try to figure out what you did 😅. Other than this it’s all needed. I just gotta buy the wood. Thqbk you!
This is great information!! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this for us! I would love to try this myself but I have a very large, high two-story home and it makes me nervous to get up to those high places. How much should I expect to pay someone to do this for me (ballpark)?
I almost never finger my caulk. If you cut your tip at like an 80 degree angle and carefully modulate the amount coming out you can put down a bead of caulk that covers the crack and looks nice. Almost like putting down nice welding beads. Much faster than spreading everything with your finger.
Where do you get the bendable nozzle? For the pressure washer? Love that thing. What about a house with cedar shakes that are blackened over time? If the customer wants the shakes pressure washed to look brand new and just paint the trim? What chemicals do you use then? I use a product called clean. You spray it on, wait 15 minutes, then pressure wash it off. It takes mold, dirt, and 98% of those black shapes down to brand new. Then I follow that with Brighten. Another product made by the same company that makes the clean. Again you spray it on, wait 15 minutes, then pressure wash. It really just cleans a little more but brightens up the wood, makes it lighter. So the first day, clean. Second day, brighten. Then the third day after the house is dry from the brighten I give the house a quick wash down, basically just making sure I got all the dirt, mold, blackness, and the chemicals I used off the house. Then I scrape, sand, caulk, fill holes, prime and paint the trim.
Have a tip? Leave it in the comment section here.
Never run the pressure washer dry.
If it’s running the trigger should be pulled even if it’s pointed straight up.
When starting pull trigger to relieve pressure.
When moving pressure washer around the job site remove the hoses. It’s worth the 60 seconds.
If you don’t use chemicals how do
You deal with mold
And mildew?
Here in NY there is a lot of that.
Maybe not in Idaho?
Thanks
God Bless you and your family plus businesses 🤞🏾💙💪🏾

@@gordonnewton4832 what do you use to fill in the cracks then?
Exterior sheathing (the wood behind the sideing) is water resistant and can easily handle occasional water, so getting some water behind the siding is acceptable.
Exterior rated caulk. I use PL Window Door & Siding Sealant. There are many good exterior caulks.
Great video. good tips. You are very professional.
Awesome vid man thanks for taking the time to show us. Learnt so much from this cheers 🍻
Great to hear! Thank you for sharing👍
I never get used to a beautiful home that dosent have a basement. I know some environmental reasons as rock or high water but Id always want a basement!
Me too
Thank you for the tip on not to run your pressure washer for more than a minute without pressing the trigger to avoid damaging the pump.
Great tip!
Do u come to michigan!? Id like a painter like u to paint our home!😂
Good tips
I appreciate your videos. I’ve learned so much from you.
That man worked his butt off!!! I wonder how much something like that costs
Yep
Awesome video 👍
thanks
bro keep the videos coming. i can see you dont have to work. but doing what your doing will keep you going. now your on the fun part of the trade. its all playtime now buddy

hi. just want to give big thanks for all this effort. newbie painter here, this is all golden! if i may, it would really help if when you describe a condition that you describe (cracks, wear, chips - anything that needs treated or not treated), if possible if you could zoom in on that condition to show more detail of what's going on? all the same, your chanel is amazing and thank you so very much!
If you've got a helper, you could get some electronic earmuffs like Walker makes for shooting. Still hear everything with the mic.
I LIKE YOUR VIDIOS THEY LET ME PAINT ON THERE HOUSES IN HOLLYWOOD HILLS AND SOMETMES I NEED A FEW TIPS OR POINTERS AND YOU NEVER EVER DISOPOINT ME.KEEP UP THE GOOD VIDIOS
Have you ever done any parking lot striping?
I could have figured out everything on my own except frame connecting backboard to the 6x6 and your video zips through that part. I just pushed play on video and took pics of video with camera to try to figure out what you did 😅. Other than this it’s all needed. I just gotta buy the wood. Thqbk you!
Swivel works good also
Yep
Amazing job 👍🏼
Very informative, thank you!
In Ohio wish you were in my town great job !
Thanks👍
The Impossibly Clean man.
