Me too but I watched it twice. I want to know which brand of extension pole he has. I found the Wooster Sherlock but there are different sizes and models. Jeff please let me know exactly which pole and length and cage too since those also had metal interiors and plastic and both had ball bearings. Thank you for teaching! I have learned so much from you!!
One tip for people: When you first put the roller to the wall after dipping, roll upwards because it throws paint onto the wall. If you roll downwards 1st, it throws paint onto the floor.

I think it's a matter if the person can Explain very well with details. I've worked with some guys that they will "teach you" but in the end you just gotta keep up with their way of explaining things.. not everyone at a job site is meant to teach other people... Of course there be some that get frustrated trying to teach other guys, the best thing I tell people that can't explain thing to others is to just demonstrate and make sure the other person is paying close attention.

@SplatVeep well, it's seems a lot easier when someone does, but as soon as i start, i start seeing little imperfections, and i keep telling myself - i have just limited amount f paint lol
I've been DIYing for 40 years and flipping houses for 10 and I never thought I would learn so much from watching a guy paint a 6' wall. I watched this video last night knowing I had 2 bedrooms to paint in a flipper today. I stopped at the box store this AM and bought the 2-4' extension pole and the quick lock, ball-bearing cage and man....what a difference!! It was so much quicker then my old method, which is pretty much what this guy mocked as 'laborious'. He was right. I also bought an oversized tray that holds a full gallon and between the new paining method and no need for refills, I knocked everything out super quick. Thanks so much for the advice. It's a great video and very well presented!! :)
We all remember 'The Winery Build', it was a great project with a lot of different variables.. Well, we're revisiting to see how it turned out after completion! Tomorrow @ Noon PST, video is live. What area are you flipping? And are you using cash? How much total is a flip costing you total. I don't even care what your profit is. I ask cuz flipping in my area is dead and I was thinking to switch to new area, MAYBE LOL
I knew you were Canadian- such a easy going chill personality! Was only going to watch first 5 minutes.... ended up watching the whole 40! You sir, are a gifted teacher! Thank you
Try taping the rim of the paint can, using masking tape, then u can pour the paint and simply pull the tape up to reveal a clean rim, which allows you to reseal the can tightly and helps the remaining paint stay good longer . You can even apply the masking tape in a V configuration!
Finally, a painter on a DIY channel who seems to know what he's doing. I've discovered, when I'm cutting in the ceiling or base board line, that if I keep my eye travelling along the line itself, rather than on the tip of brush or on the paint, the brush automatically follows along nicely. This has resulted in much faster and cleaner cut-ins for me.
There are more than 6K comments here but I just can't express how grateful I am for have found you. You are an artist and I can see that everything you do you do it with passion and a happy heart. I am planning to do many renovations at my house and you are going to be there with me helping me to do it Right. Thank you again Jeff, please keep doing what you do. God bless you!!
This was the most interesting painting video, and most helpful one as well. I cannot believe that I spent the whole 40 minutes of this video, worrying that the video would be too short for me to learn everything. You hit everything spot on, and left me wanting to watch more or your videos. Thank you so much for your help!
Been painting for 16 years professionally and I'd say for the average homeowner this is a great video. It's not really how the pros do it but it's definitely very close and will give you a nice result. Some of the differences are that we typically use 18 inch rollers because theyre faster and leave more even lines. We use mini rollers for corners and back rolling brushed areas as its faster and reduces brush marks. Also with how good modern brushes are I would use a 2 inch brush. It's smaller so it can hit tighter spots, it's lighter so less hand fatigue and they hold plenty of paint. Theres some other things too but like I said he did a good video for home owners. Also, one hundred percent sand between coats. That's my favorite tip of his
Good to know. I'm a home owner repainting our whole house, and the 18" roller has been indispensable. I use mini rollers for the corners, and I use tape and mini rollers instead of cutting with a brush. My wife can cut in with a brush, but I suck at it. Frog Tape and mini roller for me.
You my dear sir are a gifted teacher.. Your chilled demeanor makes a 40 minute video seem like 10 minutes. I'm ready to tackle another project. Simply stated,,,, YOU Rock!
I complainEd about the 40 minutes. What??? 40 minutes? I am not watching a 40 minute video!! Then I sat here and watched the whole thing-mesmerized. 😵 You’re totally hypnotic and compelling ⭐️⭐️⭐️
He is so fun to watch! Same here, I didn't plan on watching the whole video. I kept saying out loud "huh!" and "wow he's really good". Jam packed with useful tidbits. Not a wasted word. So then I subscribed.
This is the video that changed my relationship with paint forever. Now 6 years later I refer back to it for a floor trim refresher! Thank you Jeff for improving my life!
Update, your technique for painting absolutely rocks!! I have had a tremor since birth and I just painted my crown molding and got nothing on the ceiling!! I'm converted!! Thank you so much!
I’m only at 6 mins in the video & I can’t help but thank you. You have the gift of teaching. You would be very successful opening up a trade school 🏫. Thanks for your knowledge 📚
"It's not about speed it's about perfection" ! Wow. my husband is a tile setter I wish people would understand that better. They expect him to go go go go FaST FAST. But he doesn't go fast. ... guess who has the best work at the end of the day...my hubby 💪🥰
Earlier tonight you literally saved my cookies on a laminate flooring project because, and who knew, that the instructions written by the company were total B.S. So, following your instructions, I got the hang of the click and lock method and a couple of hours later, the floor was pretty much installing itself! Tomorrow's project? Paint that same room! Thanks for BOTH videos! I am always humbled and awed to watch a pro in action.
This comment is not about the painting. But you seem like a very nice and kind person. Seriously. I can tell that 😀 Good luck for everything man. Cheers.
There was an abundance of informative tips that I wouldn't have even thought to mention in a painting tutorial, and this is coming from a painter of a decade plus! That move with the salt in the warm water to get the durby to dry faster was actually pretty dope as well and I wanted to thank you for that time saver! Greatly appreciated brother! Tip for you in return - drop or 2 of regular Dawn dish soap when you mix your 45 min and the grease cutting agent busts surface tension on the water and eliminates pock holes in the mud and makes sanding require less pressure! Extremely helpful trick in my Arsenal so hope it helps you as well
Seriously, the Bob Ross of home repair. Love all your videos! Got the confidence to paint my first bedroom for my wife and I and for our first kiddo that's on the way. ❤️👍🏻
Jeff, I love watching your videos. I own A home remodeling business in Illinois since 2001. I’ve finished basements professionally for 16 years which allowed me the opportunity to have proficiency in multiple trades since my brother and I do 90% of the work ourselves. Your so thorough and explain the steps, reasons, and importantly what not to do. You are my go to video guy on home remodeling how-to. I love the “paint a pig comment you made, perfectly stated, “lol”. My background in Painting was the trade that gave me the start in this business and it’s something I take a lot of pride in completing professionally. Your tile videos are how I discovered you and I feel like I’m listening to a real person just explaining without trying to impress anyone on how to do something correctly. Have a great day Jeff when you read this. Keep the vids coming:) Dave P. Home Remodeler - Illinois
OMG, I really learned a lot! I inherited my family home during Covid and I'm doing lots of DIYs myself using RUclips. I can now paint properly on my own and have the knowledge to know what my workers are doing for when I need to hire professional painters to do the rest of this huge home. Thank you for this great, informative video! Best one I've seen
two things : when you cut , don't scrape your paint off on the edge of the pail, if you do ,the further you go the more the line of paint will creep up toward the ferral causing the bristles to not only separate which makes it harder to cut cleanly, but harder to wash clean .Instead gently pat thesides against the inside of the can which presses it in so it doesn't drip but gives you even more paint to work with than scraping it off. Secondly , when you roll , start mid wall and ALWAYS push up first . This negates the possibility of an overfilled roller or use of a thinner product dripping onto the floor or the roll(cage) catching and causing a squeegey effect shoving paint onto the floor . Full time painter here for the last 35 yrs also unior apprentice instructor
@@SUBtoMYChannelEvery1 Correct. He takes too much paint off in the video. Plus he wastes too much time unloading the brush on areas the roller is going to get. He almost doesn't need the roller
Nice, I just watched another video about just lightly tapping the edges for cutting. Do you not prime sheetrock spots prior to paint? What about wiping the excess dust off when sanding the wall? I always breakout my dewalt orbital with 120 and dust collection and just give the whole wall a light sand.
I learned so much from you in this video. The greatest tip was "cutting in" properly. I just completed a large bedroom and a bathroom that came out really well. The amazing thing is that I didn't end up feeling stressed out and frustrated because of the cutting in that was necessary. I wasn't even intimidated by the chopped up bathroom! Thanks for everything you really made my life much easier. and My wife thinks I am amazing.
Half of this video is validation of the techniques I've picked up painting all of the rooms in all the houses we've owned, the other half is new awesome info that I wish I knew years ago! All of it is enjoyable to watch! Thanks man!
if you don't know how to do something properly, learn how to do something properly, you accomplished that step. Too many people aren't as independent as you
As a Quality Control Manager and painter for over 30 years, I approve this man's video....all but one coat painting....Paint HAS come a long way, but I have yet to see a passable one coat job either in the field, or any contract project Ive been a part of. Ive only heard of others sucess doing one coat....like a unicorn in the woods or something. Always plan 2 coats. ALWAYS.
sometimes it happens on new drywall. you prime with white tinted primer, small repairs and rub downs and touch-ups, then 1st coat with some white supermatt and voilla: screw you, quality surveyor. or even better: prime with diluted dulux supermatt or vinyl matt and if you work it in right and the driwall was good, you get extra lazy bonus. here in uk we abandoned dedicated wall primers long ago, we use cheap white matts as standard for priming drywall and plaster. but seriously, anyone does this to me on my jobs and i send him home.
@@i.george2321 Tinted primer + paint = 2 coats. I am not a painter but I have painted a lot of walls. One coat of paint is indeed like unicorns, popular but it doesn't exist. Also, I have no idea why using paint like primer is such a popular concept. Use primer like primer and paint like paint. I have always gotten better results and it's cheaper.
Jeff, Thank you so much, I worked in the paint business for years at SW, but have learned so much from this video that I never knew. Made a trip to the Home Improvement store and purchased what you suggested, The biggest thing I am surprised with is the sheet rock mud, I have always purchase the buckets, and hated the waiting and tons of coats and sanding. I cannot believe it, 90min, 20min, and 45 min working times and 18 pounds of the mix for $9 vs $14 for a tub of aggravation. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Oh, and thank you for the cleaning techniques for the the brushes and roller, I knew some but wasn't doing enough, save one of my new brushes with your info and stainless wire brush!!!
Dude!!! You're like the freaking Bob Ross of painting. Like I litterly watch this whole video and was so entertained and informed. That i had to subscribe. Thanks man!
In case anybody didn't notice there wasn't even a speck of paint on his shirt. To me that's one of the biggest marks of professionalism in any skilled trade.
I'm sorry but it has nothing at all to do with product, and has no bearing on how professional or talented he is, it's just a case of changing his shirt regularly.
I am a professional decorator and I can tell you it does not matter! Yes it looks professional to be clean and tidy especially decorating domestic properties. But it is near impossible try work a 12 hr shift painting inside cupboards on your knees, painting ceilings working with other people, rushing to get a job finished in time for deadlines. Impossible! It matters what your work looks like not what you look like lol. I worked with people that were spotless because they spent more time outside smoking and buying new overalls every two weeks than actually working.
Started watching with "I know how to paint" in my brain. There's a lot I didn't know! Legitimately excited to try painting from the inside if the brush. Many thanks for the useful, insightful video!
This is the greatest video on painting that I have ever seen. SO many tips and tricks that I wish I had known years ago. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
I’m a painter myself, I felt A LOT of what you said hahah Watched to learn a few extra tips I maybe didn’t know and sure enough I learned a few things. Also wasn’t bored at all! Thank you!!
Tape the loose screws on their respective cover when you remove them. Thank you, I learnt a few new techniques today. The quality of the brush and the paint is crucial. 👍🤓.
I was watching a flooring video and then had to let it run for a bit because my hands were full - and even though I wasn’t looking for an painting video, this was a pleasure to watch and listen to. It is by far the most instructive video I have ever seen on painting, and if I ever get brave enough to paint, I am going to rewatch this. Thank you!
Omg thank you so much for these tips! I am currently painting 4 rooms in my house and these tips will save me hours, I’m a tattooist, my husband and I own our shop and my son and I have currently started a second business so time is a precious commodity to me lol. You have no idea the amount of time you have saved me!! Yours in Ink, KC DeVille
I wish the “professional” I hired would have been this thorough! Having a lot of imperfections in the walls of our new home is why I hired a “professional.” I fired said professional for always being hours late & dragging out a 2 week job for more than 6 weeks. Not a single room in the house was 100% completed, despite my pleas to finish SOMETHING. Anyway, these tips will come in handy as I finish the job myself & go back over what he didn’t do right. Thank you for this video!
I have done a decent amount of painting in my life, I thought I knew how to paint. In just the first few minutes of this video I learned three new things. Good thing cause I am about to be painting my bedroom. Thanks, great video.
Man, the humbleness and the simplesness in your speech while you teach your tips, that just encouraged me to paint my room all alone! Wish you all the best sir, the world should have more people like you, humble! Big hug from Portugal 💪
Listening to you, is like listening to my father. Mom and dad were their own general contractors, I worked with them ever since I was tall enough to fill a nail hole or big enough to push a push broom. You are very classic, and efficient. My father just passed away a few months ago, not to be a Debbie Downer, this is not a sad comment... It is really comforting to hear you. You are explaining exactly the way he would, in a really similar Cadence, I love this. Thank you so much for making videos.
Jeff, just a massive thank you for the video and doing it in a way that makes it easy for someone to pick up a brush and complete a great job. Based on this Video I prepped, prepped, prepped and painted both my girls rooms and they couldn't be happier with the outcomes. I'll be going through all your other videos and seeing what else I can get up to around the house. Keep it up! Cheers
Mesmerizing. Great tips and tricks! I can't wait to give them a try on my next job. I thought I was a good painter util I watched this video. Fastest 40 minutes I've spent since I went fishing last time!
Great video! Like all the tips! Few things if I may add is I am a professional painter and I do recommend back brushing when cutting in and woodwork! 2 1/2 brush is easy to handle. Also I generally use a 13 to 15 mil roller for walls. For ceilings 20 to 25 thickness. This eliminates lap marks especially on a flat ceiling Tip! When painting trim I always dilute my paint 10%. Cheers!
At 50 years old after watching your video (and many of your others) I'm seriously considering switching career. You've managed to change my perception of decorating as being a boring, relatively straightforward trade into an art form. Btw this is the first time I've ever felt compelled to comment on a DIY video. Great craftsmanship! Btw, would i be mad to consider getting into this at 50!?
I got into it at 35, after 15 years in the bar business. My partner is almost 70. We’ve got more business than we know what to do with, we set our own prices and work our own hours, and haven’t left behind an unhappy client yet, 5 years in. If you like making things rights and have an eye for detail, I recommend it
Good job man. Video is a big success. For everybody watching... painting is hard enough as it is. Making a comprehensive video is a HUGE accomplishment. This is a very well done video. I certainly can't get in front of the camera and speak about painting as well as Jeff does here. Or at least it will take a LOT more practice.
This is the best video about painting that I have ever seen. I’m about to tackle a big painting job and this was exactly the information that I needed. I probably will still tape my baseboards because I am a perfectionist and I know my limitations but everything else I’m going to do it exactly like you did and I’m going to watch this about 10 more times before I start. I especially needed the information about spackling and about how to make the corners straight and clean again. My house is 25 years old and the corners have been messed up since we built the house. Our painters were horrible people that ripped us off and they did not do you a good job like you do. I’m about to fix their mistakes. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you.
I've got nearly my whole house painted and these tips, particularly the cutting in and using the pole the whole time, are going to make the rest much easier!
I got a roller pole to paint my stairwell (clueless housewife here :D) and ended up using it to paint a different room on a whim and it was honestly revolutionary. You have so much more consistency of pressure and control and it's no where near as tiring (or frustrating if you're short like me, no more up and down stepstools). I'll never go without a roller pole again. I also severely underestimated how frustrating and ultimately costly cheap rollers are, the ones that don't have bearings and don't roll right, you have to put so much pressure on them they're basically trash. I just thought that was normal (-_-) @30:45 Oooooooh that corner is looking SHARP I tell ya what. Also thanks for your content, I found you with your video on finished basements and I appreciate your honesty about old homes and finished basements. As an antique home owner it's so frustrating to deal with the modern reno/diy marketing that oversells everything.
I wish I’d have watched this video 15 years ago. It would have saved me 5 😁 So many things I learnt myself over a long time. So glad your helping others so fantastically avoid errors. Great choice of filler. Flashing can be devastating. I’m glad I’m not the only one who describes his work as “sexy” as said in your video. Sign of a passionate tradesman. Impressed. Great work !!!!!
This man is a magician!!! I have never been so enthralled with a DIYer! What a teacher!!! I am a total convert!!!! I’m still a bit scared, but ready to try!! Thank you so much for speaking to us as “peers”… with potential!!
I thought I remember the instructions being patch, sand, paint, sand, paint; but I never saw the 2nd sanding. --Are you supposed to sand after the 1st coat? --And do you need to wash or wipe the walls down before painting to remove dirt or sanded material?
Hmm, Wierd that only Cliff noticed that he said he was going to sand between coats, but then didn't show that step. I imagine it would only take 15 seconds to sand if he sanded like he did before the first coat, and I would have apreciated seeing it in case there was anything different in sanding between coats. Otherwise great video like all of his other videos. Thank you
Yep, wipe the walls after sanding... with a wet cloth wrung out. Wipe a 4 ft area, flip the cloth, wipe another 4 foot area, then rinse out cloth at the sink and wring out water until it doesn't drip. Then continue wiping the wall.
Yes sand after first coat, its just very light sand with a sanding pole. Just to knock down and dust or texture the roller has left behind yes damp cloth and you shouldn't scrub just quick wipe.
Thank you for posting this video. I’ve watched too many “Pro Painter” videos and leave out some important details and tips you touched upon. Great job sir, cheers!
Loved this tutorial, hubby & I learned so much from watching it just before starting to decorate our bedroom - had bought 4 rolls of masking tape in advance, but used none of it due to your cutting in technique, so we need to return it now 😍
The "technology" inside of acrylic/latex water-based paints is called titanium dioxide. It's what provides the paint with its coverage and hiding power. Important things to note about water-based paints: - The lighter the color the higher the titanium dioxide content of the base. These paints have the highest coverage and hiding power of this type of paint. - The darker the color the lower the titanium dioxide content of the base. This means the coverage and hiding power is also reduced. - Because of the lower hiding power of darker bases, dark colors may require more coats. Proper prep work helps minimize the need for extra coats. - Speaking to the previous point, this is why proper prep work on the wall is so important. It not only makes it look nicer, it will allow you to get the job done right without all the extra work.
Nothing related to this video, but I just love your channel. I do 99% of the work on my old house myself now just because you have great guides of everything. Keep it up! I will for sure keep watching.

Really useful info here for those that have basic experience but want to go to the next level.
I've been away for a while, getting things in order for Support The Youth, Inc., figuring out our path and talking with the names that will fund it. My goal? What area are you flipping? And are you using cash? How much total is a flip costing you total. I don't even care what your profit is. I ask cuz flipping in my area is dead and I was thinking to switch to new area, MAYBE LOL
Was there a learning curve to become that good?
Thanks Jeff this was so informational that I too thought I knew how to paint but you taught me so much and with NO TAPE!
Thank you
Can we just take a moment and appreciate trades people for keeping homes running & beautiful?
It is 4am, I need to paint absolutely nothing. But this seems just the kinda thing I need to learn. Dammit RUclips.
Its 1140 i was thinking the same thing
LOL
Lol I do need to paint but I can relate
4.07am and 3 months later, but I'm in the same situation. :-)
It's very useful knowledge even if you're not painting right now.
Never in my life did I expect to be watching paint drying on a Saturday night .. I just did.. Thanks .

Watching this on a Friday afternoon
This is my Saturday night now lol!
I knew you were Canadian- such a easy going chill personality! Was only going to watch first 5 minutes.... ended up watching the whole 40! You sir, are a gifted teacher! Thank you
I knew he was Canadian by his accent.
I realized he was Canadian cause he has a Tim's coffee in almost every video ,)
The fact he mentioned Ottawa and every time he said ou didn’t give it away? 😂
James same here. His personality enticed me to watch the whole video
Try taping the rim of the paint can, using masking tape, then u can pour the paint and simply pull the tape up to reveal a clean rim, which allows you to reseal the can tightly and helps the remaining paint stay good longer . You can even apply the masking tape in a V configuration!
I'm a professional painter. Good tip!
Awesome to know!! Thank you!!!
Fantastic! Will definitely do this thank you
Finally, a painter on a DIY channel who seems to know what he's doing.
Please also look out for paint like a pro fine finish trade secrets - we are about to release a course from painting mansion homes.
This guy does a good job on somethings, like this video, but also does a terrible job on other things.
This was the most interesting painting video, and most helpful one as well. I cannot believe that I spent the whole 40 minutes of this video, worrying that the video would be too short for me to learn everything. You hit everything spot on, and left me wanting to watch more or your videos. Thank you so much for your help!
Glad it was helpful! Cheers!
"This is not about speed, this is about Perfection"!!! I love you for this!!
Should I sand between coats with knockdown texture too? If not I should probably cancel the 360 sander I just ordered from Amazon ASAP
Good advice.
Why? What happens if you don't?
Why do we sand between coats ? I live in EU where ALL the walls are concrete.. tips ?
You my dear sir are a gifted teacher.. Your chilled demeanor makes a 40 minute video seem like 10 minutes. I'm ready to tackle another project.
Simply stated,,,, YOU Rock!
I complainEd about the 40 minutes. What??? 40 minutes? I am not watching a 40 minute video!! Then I sat here and watched the whole thing-mesmerized. 😵 You’re totally hypnotic and compelling ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Lol. SAME. I really enjoyed it. He was funny, informative and super detailed. I'm a hairstylist and I'm system oriented as well. I already subscribed.
Ditto
He is so fun to watch! Same here, I didn't plan on watching the whole video. I kept saying out loud "huh!" and "wow he's really good". Jam packed with useful tidbits. Not a wasted word. So then I subscribed.
I waitched the whole thing too. I didnt realize it was 40 min until I read this comment lmao. And I'm at 35 min
LOL same!
Watching you mix that sheetrock 45 was literally sooooo satisfying lol

I’m only at 6 mins in the video & I can’t help but thank you. You have the gift of teaching. You would be very successful opening up a trade school 🏫. Thanks for your knowledge 📚
"It's not about speed it's about perfection" ! Wow.
my husband is a tile setter I wish people would understand that better. They expect him to go go go go FaST FAST. But he doesn't go fast. ... guess who has the best work at the end of the day...my hubby 💪🥰

@MonkeyMentality i think he would last awhile, he is talking and explaining things.

Haste makes waste.
Extremely helpful trick in my Arsenal so hope it helps you as well
Any tips on painting a wall that red ( as in blood red ) to off white ?? Heeeeelp

Keep the vids coming:)

Can't believe I've just thoroughly enjoyed 40 minutes watching you paint a wall!
“You don’t wanna be dragging dirt through your mud.” has to be my favorite quote so far. lol
ha
was looking for this thanks XD
OMG… tips I’ve never thought of. And I was taught by a professional! Thanks Jeff!
two things : when you cut , don't scrape your paint off on the edge of the pail, if you do ,the further you go the more the line of paint will creep up toward the ferral causing the bristles to not only separate which makes it harder to cut cleanly, but harder to wash clean .Instead gently pat thesides against the inside of the can which presses it in so it doesn't drip but gives you even more paint to work with than scraping it off.
So not scrape the brush in the can line Jeff did?
@@SUBtoMYChannelEvery1 Correct. He takes too much paint off in the video. Plus he wastes too much time unloading the brush on areas the roller is going to get. He almost doesn't need the roller
So what is your advice for not having your patch job show thru your paint job?
Nice, I just watched another video about just lightly tapping the edges for cutting. Do you not prime sheetrock spots prior to paint? What about wiping the excess dust off when sanding the wall? I always breakout my dewalt orbital with 120 and dust collection and just give the whole wall a light sand.
Thanks man! I was wondering about some of this as I have to finish painting tomorrow and have never rolled on paint before.
Thanks man!
Cheers!
"Clean off your knife... cuz you don't want to be dragging dirt... through your mud"
Gold. Pure gold.
Began day 1 of my bathroom repaint by drinking coffee and watching this video. Didn't tape a damn thing. Hell yeah!
if you don't know how to do something properly, learn how to do something properly, you accomplished that step.
Too many people aren't as independent as you
Wow that must be ugly
Same!
Tape is annoying
As a Quality Control Manager and painter for over 30 years, I approve this man's video....all but one coat painting....Paint HAS come a long way, but I have yet to see a passable one coat job either in the field, or any contract project Ive been a part of. Ive only heard of others sucess doing one coat....like a unicorn in the woods or something. Always plan 2 coats. ALWAYS.
J B qqq
Unless it's a similiar color, such as a shade of white.
pikkuhakki2 Always....
sometimes it happens on new drywall. you prime with white tinted primer, small repairs and rub downs and touch-ups, then 1st coat with some white supermatt and voilla: screw you, quality surveyor. or even better: prime with diluted dulux supermatt or vinyl matt and if you work it in right and the driwall was good, you get extra lazy bonus. here in uk we abandoned dedicated wall primers long ago, we use cheap white matts as standard for priming drywall and plaster. but seriously, anyone does this to me on my jobs and i send him home.
I can't believe this was actually 40 minutes. It felt like 10 with how dense and informative it was. I can't wait to paint my room now!
Cheers Stephen , happy to help!

Hi jeff, can you do a tutorial on how to paint over texture walls? How to prepare it? How to prime it? Going from dark to light or light to dark?
Started watching with "I know how to paint" in my brain. There's a lot I didn't know! Legitimately excited to try painting from the inside if the brush. Many thanks for the useful, insightful video!

You probably paid him a daily rate instead of a project rate
I have done a decent amount of painting in my life, I thought I knew how to paint. In just the first few minutes of this video I learned three new things. Good thing cause I am about to be painting my bedroom. Thanks, great video.
Man, the humbleness and the simplesness in your speech while you teach your tips, that just encouraged me to paint my room all alone!
Wish you all the best sir, the world should have more people like you, humble!

Cheers!
What do you mean by "back brushing" ?
At 50 years old after watching your video (and many of your others) I'm seriously considering switching career. You've managed to change my perception of decorating as being a boring, relatively straightforward trade into an art form. Btw this is the first time I've ever felt compelled to comment on a DIY video. Great craftsmanship! Btw, would i be mad to consider getting into this at 50!?
If you think you’ll enjoy it, it doesn’t matter how old you are.
I got into it at 35, after 15 years in the bar business. My partner is almost 70. We’ve got more business than we know what to do with, we set our own prices and work our own hours, and haven’t left behind an unhappy client yet, 5 years in. If you like making things rights and have an eye for detail, I recommend it
Age is just a number bro don't let it stop you
Good job man.
Where have you been all my life! Thank you for this tips. You've given me hope. I hate cutting in the walls and doing trim. Thank you.
I wish I’d have watched this video 15 years ago. It would have saved me 5 😁
So many things I learnt myself over a long time. So glad your helping others so fantastically avoid errors. Great choice of filler. Flashing can be devastating. Thank you for such an excellent video!! I feel like a trained pro now. Your instructions are so easy and clear. I can tell you're an expert
Yeah, I'm wondering as well...where is the DIY dude with his answer to this question? Hello? ANyone out there?
I was wondering this too!

Watching your years of skill and experience come into work is just a thing of beauty. Thank you for sharing all those years and experience with us. ❤
The "technology" inside of acrylic/latex water-based paints is called titanium dioxide. It's what provides the paint with its coverage and hiding power.
Important things to note about water-based paints:
- The lighter the color the higher the titanium dioxide content of the base.
Genius. Titanium dioxide is a white pigment not technology. And its in use long time ago. Other is correct.
Петар В. Петровић: it’s still technology ya genius. 🤦♂️
