You could fill that old raised bed with sand for the littles to have a sand box. They will stay busy while you are right there working in your garden. You can put plastic bottles over those bamboo stakes to prevent injuries. Would love to see your garden layout on paper with what veg you will grow in each bed and where fruits will be placed. Little by little it will come together!🙂

The plastic bottles can be painted pretty colors and if you use a sharp knife & cut 3 small flaps in the sides then bend them out a little they will spin in the breeze and help keep some garden vermin scared away too.

I fell in love with you and your family and spent weeks going back and watching your videos from the very beginning. (312 videos 😉) You made me realize just how possible things are. Seeing you now, pushing through in this time of your life is so inspiring. Take the rough days and accept them as they come, just remember you are making such a difference to so many of us! ❤️

I left a relationship commitment in 2020 and purchased a property with a large bonus lot. I started a garden and share it with the community.
The neighbors buy plants and supplies to contribute and help the whole season. The only thing I do is plan the layout and coordinate the planting.
      They love sharing the experience.
It’s not my primary home and I got married this year. My husband and I have built a homestead and more garden space and share the rewards with everyone. Community around food is so rewarding 💚
If they have ways they can share the experience in anyway - it’s more likely everyone wins!
Bri, the love you have in your heart and share is so abundant it will overflow to everyone around you XO
If you’re looking for an Iowa escape, we would be glad to share our homestead waterfront access with you and your family!

For filling the Propane tanks here, the man typically will walk up to locate your tank if he's unfamiliar with the property, then he will return with a long hose to attach safely and securely to the tank top, with no leaks , he will fill your tank.

Stivers Homestead does all their gardening in raised beds and they grow a TON of food. I think raised beds are more visually pleasing and would be less likely to draw negative attention from the neighbors or HOA. I would also suggest using the beds along the front edge of the yard to grow a profusion of flowers, also for visual appeal.

So awesome that you will have a garden Bri!
Regarding Propane delivery - many many moons ago i worked for a propane gas company, as a bookkeeper. Things may have changed a bit since then, but i suspect not that much. Delivery truck is usually driven as close to tank(s) as possible, but still on the road or driveway. Not on the yard. Then the propane delivery person pulls out a very long hose from the truck to the tank fills it & then pulls a lever at the truck, that rewinds the hose back to the truck. Hopefully the mechanism is better for extending the hose from the truck now. I remember the drivers saying/ complaining how heavy it was & tiring to pull it, many times per day and they do it in all sorts of nasty weather. Makes ya grateful.
Let us know what ya find out, re your current delivery procedures.
Thx for sharing your life with us!

Bri, in Florida many housing developments have gas/ propane piped in… I’d check the top of your tank to see who placed the tank. Give them a call.
Check to see if you’re in any HOA… they have guidelines for plant placement on a side yard that faces another’s front door. You should have received a set of bylaws from your HOA at closing. See if you can find a copy of the survey. It should give you many of the measurements your looking for.

Despite what you usually hear, all HOA communities are not the same. We built in a lovely neighborhood 8 years ago and are completely happy with our decision. This is not our forever home, but it suits our needs in this moment. We have a large raised bed garden, fruit trees, berries, cut flower garden, arched trellis for climbers, perennial flowering borders, and the wooded grove beyond our fence is filled with wildlife that we adore. Our community supports and encourages gardening, and no one is measuring your grass or complaining about the dandelions 😂 There are some truly horrid HOAs, so I understand why they get a bad wrap but sweeping generalizations are rarely accurate.

Your garden is going to look wonderful. As far as your neighbors getting upset due to your Gardens I say this, being that I live also under HOA. If they say the front yard you cannot do Gardens or vegetable gardens, fine, but HOA for the most part cannot prohibit you from building Gardens in the back of your home. And in all reality... even with the most strictest HOAs there's always a way to cover up areas by covering your ground with herbs that are ground cover herbs and even lemongrass. Lemongrass is great for mosquitoes and fly repelling LOL but they look like a decorative grass and the neighbors would never know that you use it to make tea LOL just things like that but you're doing great can't wait to see the gardens. Living under HOA has caused me to really think outside the box and be extremely creative because I need my Gardens LOL

HOAs can be a pain sometimes. I rented an apartment and the apartment owners decided I couldn't use the pool or other amenities. My Landlord filed a complaint and I won. Something about treating me in a discriminatory fashion. LOL. If they get nasty drop a hint about how marvelous a community garden would be. That should weed out any Karens.

    • @christinedehn3257

If the HOA prohibits veg gardens in the front yard, that's when you put in landscaping with fruit trees, berry bushes and a lovely arbor with grape vines.

@@jan-janalemayer3518 I really wish they would do away with HOAs. I understand where they're coming from and making the houses look decent and not like a junkyard but to go so far as to tell a person that they can or cannot have a garden or can or cannot plant this kind of tree you can't have this amount of animals or you can't have these animals... I tell you what would the price of eggs nowadays I would love to have a mini chicken coop with about four or five little Silkie chickens. Right now is very tricky for a lot of people under HOA. And what really gets me is there is a town There's the new town is half of the community and the old town is the other half the old town is allow chickens and so forth but the new town which is still the same town as just divided in half is not it's very strict which is foolishness in mine mine. I also don't think that entire Community should be punished for one bad neighbor who abuses their rights to have chickens or so forth... Like if they really keep a nasty backyard and it looks really really bad it looks like a junkyard then find that person and be strict with that person but don't be so strict with everyone. Because there's so many people who have such great Gardens and animals from Quail to chickens to turkeys to dwarf sheep and dwarf goats and they keep their little tiny property or yard extremely immaculate. Anyways I could go on and on LOL. Jan good for you that you went after those people. That is horrid. I hope you have a beautiful and a very blessed day Jan formation point take care and God bless

Yes, I would like a few Silkies too. I have almost a half acre that is wooded and ends on a river but the city just vetoed any farm animals again. Yet they have the nerve on taxes to call my house a farm house. Since my neighbors moved in across the street, he cleans his garage and dumps it in the front yard where it stays. But as an old lady, I can't have a few chickens. My 1/2 acre is empty. So sad!

I hope you do not take anything I say offensive because I watch your videos everyday that I can. I just want to say something that isn't any of my business or anyone else's but, I want you to understand that I had several children back to back and me and the father both suffered depression, my husband suffered multiple issues that he seeked help with but as Christians we pulled together and he stuck with us through it all. He still helped me more than he realizes and I thank him all the time even now that we raised our children and have grandchildren now. I see so many people, some being friends of mine that had husband's that walked away because of their mental issues. It's so much easier for a man and in some cases for mothers, but if you are a good mother, being the best you can; it's not so simple, we are stuck with fighting our mental problems as well as trying to be a good parent. I pray for you and the children but you deserve so much more, especially when you need a break to have a piece of mind for yourself. I don't know what your plans are for your and the children's future, but they need to know they are loved either way and you do so wonderful to be a young mother that you are. Prayers for you & the children 🙏 😊

Have you checked with HOH if you can even have a garden this size? Are you allowed to fence it in from deer, kids, neighbours pets? How about putting down weed barrier then add soil on top. Tilling poor soil takes many more years to make it enriched as you know. If you can control the soil contents you are ahead of the game. Work smarter not harder works in gardening too. ❤❤

Can I also say it is very inspiring to me to partner with you (and others) who are being wonderful of examples of being willing to dance in the rain instead of waiting for the storm to pass. Keep going Bri, take micro moments to close your eyes, breathe deeply, and find something you can be grateful for in that moment, then keep moving. Trusting God can be hard, But most of the time it's only when we look back we can see his providential hand and care guiding and directing in ways we could never have imagined. I'm rooting for you and praying for you ❣️
