also checkpoint isn't recognizing the copy of the game on the sd card, only the cartridge. followed your directions exactly
so instead of deleting my silly question i'll leave a tidbit. start the game, past the menu. then close the game and open checkpoint. hold b to refresh the list and viola there she'll be.

That's how I did it on my 3DSXL.
Backing up my save data also gives me the sanity that I could eventually continue playing my games on PC or any other 2/3DS system in the future.
@@blainelocklair is there not some irony in the fact that Nintendo is simultaneously the company that has the biggest problem with "hacking" their consoles but also has the best consoles to hack 😂 I guess that's probably not a coincidence

I’m glad I knew about this stuff a year ago, I have tons of physical games that are now digital. I can now preserve the read & write life span of the physical games and now just use an SD card to play them instead. 🤩
Edit: I also use 3DS powersaves to transfer over my save data because I find it much faster. 😊

If your game crashes right after you restored the save data, closed checkpoint, and started the digital game, just restart your 3DS and it will work
im having an issue, i followed all the steps, and kirby triple deluxe launches, but checkpoint cant see it, why’s that
Press and hold b in checkpoint, it should make checkpoint recheck to see if there any more games.

The sd copy game don't show up in checkpoint /// update: it shows up if u start the game, and save it. Then leave and go to checkpoint then hold B to refresh!
What’s the steps for trying to dump standard DS games to the 3DS instead of 3DS games?
And just to be sure, this doesn't ruin the original 3DS cartridge, right?
I haven't saw the full tutorial cause godmode9 isn't launching on my *modded* 3ds, but I'm pretty sure its just copying the data from the cartridge to the sd card. And if you copy it, it won't disturb the data on the original cartridge.
@@SuitedGhost Actually, I figured it out now. Yeah, I'm pretty sure the cartridge remains unchanged no matter how you dump it, because dumping is indeed just COPYING the cartridge files.

It didn't work. Once I created the save file in checkpoint and closed it, when I reopened checkpoint the game save for that game wasn't there.

Doesnt work with mario kart 7, maybe because of ctgp, idk. Edit: Save files do not work with all apps, the sd card app doesnt show, only the cartridge one

This adds an extra step. Just select install game image and it installs it without having to go to FBI.
Well, it does but if you want to dump your games to back those up on your computer, this is a great way to do it.
I have concern when installing a 256gb on the 3DS/New3DS. Once in gets running, I cannot change the theme when after rebooting the system. I also tried formatting the SD Card with 32kb Cluster Size but will not recognize the system. Any tips on how to properly install a 256GB Micro SD Card on the New 3DS?
Hi you have to format it with gui format then it will work fine
Actually just went through this issue and even if u format it to Fat32 the card is to large and makes the 3ds bug out. 128 is the sweet spot for no issues
Enable game patching and themes work fine. I have a 256gb and my theme worked for awhile then suddenly stopped working and that is the only fix i have found

The save file trick isnt working for pokemon sun is there another way to back up and restore saves?
Edit: managed to figure out how to back up and restore using jksm. Also for clarity of the 3 games I backed up only pokemon sun had issues with saves

I tried it with Kirby Triple Deluxe and it worked. I tried it with two other games and checkpoint doesn't even recognize the other 3DS games I dumped. I want to backup my game saves

Sorry for responding after a year but you should be fine with any size, anything above 32GB needs to be plugged into a pc and formatted to fat32 though but that's not very difficult, I'm using a 128GB sd

My 2DS XL just did a really big oopsie and now all of my save data on my Pokemon VC games and my StreetPass Mii Plaza and LITERALLY EVERY GAME I DOWNLOADED all got their data seemingly erased when I tried to download a new game because "the microSD card software management information was corrupted" during the process. I'm assuming the process in going back to the game card would be as simple as performing a checkpoint on the dumped cia save, inserting the physical cart (that already has a save created) and selecting restore on cartridge copy?
