If anyone is having trouble with their backup not showing for the sd card version of your game, try “install and delete cia”. I clicked “install cia” before, and my backups weren’t showing up for the sd version of my game. But after I clicked “install and delete cia” it recognized the sd card, and cartridge versions of the game as the same, and I was able to restore my backup to the sd version of my game.
The game I was backing up was Pokémon Y btw.
Any chance you could teach how to do it with regular DS games? I want to save my Pokémon platinum file so I can lend the cartridge to my friend

Yes please, Checkpoint doesn't work with DS games so if there is another way I would love to hear it.
Huge thanks! I had this all sorted but couldn't find checkpoint on my 3ds until i watched the video and realized it was the flag icon app.
I was having the issue of when the card was inserted, it wouldn't show the installed game unless I pressed X to show the sd card data, but if I installed the data that way, it would say it was corrupted in-game. This video, after hours of searching, solved my problem instantly: just take the card out, simple as that, checkpoint will redirect automatically, and install the saves in the correct place. 10/10 would (and did) watch again!
Your videos are very helpful and easy to follow, could you make a tutorial on how to backup NDS games to the SD card too, as I would like my 3ds and DS games on the home screen and ready to play from sd card :)
What might be interesting: Is it possible to restore your save file from the sd card to the catridge? So basically the reverse of this.
yes, just backup from sd card game and then restore on cartridge like in the video.
Thanks for this! I got a second had 3DS that was from a different region than where I live and games with different regions. I wanted to jailbreak it purely for making it region free but this caused problems with a few games bought completely legally. This way I can still play them :)

Thank you for all of your videos. I was able to backup my cartridge save, but when I take the cartridge out and restart chechpoint my backup does not show up. I held down "B" to rescan but I get an "ARM 11" error. Any advice?

I have the same problem. Thankfully just powering it off, then after 5 sec on again, everything is ok, but still can’t recognize my sd game as an option to transfer over the save. I had the problem with Majoras Mask, then something it did show up. Now the same wirh Mario3DLand, but this time after restarting it still doesn’t show up. :/ followed all the steps. 3 other cartilages, without a problem.
@@AshtrayHDlate I had the same problem. Here's my solution which may help you. After installing and 'unwrapping' the SD card version of the game on the homescreen, I start the game (the SD card version you've just installed) and create a save game file. Then I quit out of the game. Then I go into Checkpoint and both versions will be listed (cartridge and SD). It's now a simple matter of creating a new save data file from the cartridge version (call it something like 'Zelda1') and then restoring it into the SD card version. Just make sure you're selecting the file you've just created (e.g. 'Zelda1') and make sure you're restoring to the SD version. Then you can quit out of Checkpoint, remove the cartridge and start the SD version of the game and check that the save data is there.

I'm trying to do this with a regular DS game but because it's a regular DS game your instructions are not the same because something is different when I do it can you do a video of you transferring it game data with a regular DS cartridge in a 3DS

What's the reason of choose trimmed file then untrimmed file. Don't you loose some features if you trimmed like any Pokemon games?

If it’s larger than 32GB you need to format it to FAT32 using a computer before it’ll work on the 3ds.

It is possible, but this also allows you to play your games directly from the SD card do you don't have to bring your cartridges everywhere when you want to swap games, it's a nice option to have

i backed up my Savefile from my Pokémon Alpha Saphir Cartridge and restored that backup on the Version that i installed on my SD card.
it says that it restored it and yea.
but when i go into the game, it iust boots up as a new game. not the safe file that i restored.
@@blainelocklair I'm having the same issue with Omega Ruby. I followed your steps exactly and when I start Omega Ruby from the digital copy it starts off from a new game, not the save file.
