Note: If youre struggling to get up the first exploit menu (black screen with NANDdumper option). When holding in the B button, do not let go, even if the screen starts to change. You need to hold in B until the menu pops up, otherwise if you let go of B early, you get the usual blue screen menu which is for the next step.
@dog doo you need to format your SD card to FAT32, you can do this on your computer. Insert the SD card and use a tool like guiformat. There is a lot of resources on Google to help with this it only takes a minute or so

my console just freezes the moment I hold the button down
I've followed the guide to a tee but have tried it about 40 times now and it just freezes every time on the page. I've cleared saved data the last 10 times too. I've no idea why it's working for other people and not me.

I have a few recommendations for those that come after me to learn from my mistakes. If you have a 32gb WiiU, then I strongly recommend using a 64gb SD formatted with ridgecorp's fat32 formatter and dump the MLC (the one defaulted to NO and listed as optional) also when you do the NAND dumper on the first step.
With all the talk about the WiiU's having their eMMC memory failing, I really wanted to have a dump of the MLC too, just in case. If you try to do this with a 32GB sd card, the MLC dump will not work on a 32gb WiiU, for obvious reasons. The reason I am recommending this, is that it was REALLY hard to figure out how to dump the MLC after I installed the CFW and acquired a 64GB SD card. After the CFW was installed, every time I tried to dump the NAND, the WiiU would just crash or reboot. I was able to figure it out by pressing B during bootup and then dumping the MLC NAND then. But my stress levels would be much lower the last few days if I would have just done it from the beginning.
Shoot I kept getting error message: "FSGetMountSource failed. Please insert a FAT32 formatted SD card". I already formatted it to FAT32 on my laptop.
The Wii u only takes SD cards (up to 2 GB) and SDHC cards (2 GB to 32 GB). SDXC cards (64 or more) are not compatible.

Note: if you are moving files on a Chromebook device, you will have to manually drag and drop the homebrew apps files into the Wii U apps folder because the folder will not merge automatically. Also the new versions of the files will work perfectly fine. 👍

After hearing about the recent Wii U Brickings people seem to be getting, especially with myself receiving the 160-0105 error code on occasion (when attempting to play a game off the system memory), I am totally going to try this! Hearing that it does a NAND Backup BEFOREHAND is such a relief to my ears.
Was the game off the eshop or a rom?
@@smokegames1179 eShop. All of my software on that Wii U is from there. Pretty much any non-virtual console game gives me the error code when booting the game from the system memory. Applications still work perfectly.

@@dawn-cj2vj i would suggest you to follow the exact instructions you find in one of the links in the description. I don't know how you press and don't remember how I exactly did that part, but I did follow the steps.

Me too, I jailbroke both of my Wii U's years ago, but I wanted to see how different it was from the old methond, I got a third Wii U that is not jailbroken, I might try this on it.
I’ve always been so scared to do this because I thought it would brick my system and since the eshop is closing tomorrow and this is the console I spent most my childhood on I decided that now is best time to try this

@@hgbguy I did my 3ds first because I didn’t have a sd card, I thought I did but it was an adapter. I did my wii u the next day tho, it works and I’m just trying to get something like NUSspli.

Theres this issue that i have when i try to get to the first exploit menu and i hold the "B" button, my entire console just freezes. anyone know how to fix this?
Update: there was a simple fix to this. All i needed to do was reset my save data in the browser by going into home page of the internet browser, clicking "settings" at the top right and then scrolling down to find "reset my save data" and it worked for me
Mine go’s straight to homebrew with wuphax on it as ive installed ctgp that way. Will this work cause when i hold B or X that just comes up not the nand
I keep seeing "Don't run the EnvironmentLoader twice. and If you want to open the Homebrew Launcher, launch the Mii Maker instead. but mii maker won't launch it.

Will you have a follow up on how to use a hdd to store wiiu games? Or how to back up wiiu titles?
You can use flash drives and external hard drives to expand your storage. Two things to keep in mind:
1. When you first connect a drive to a Wii U, it'll ask you if you want to format the drive. Once you do you will only be able to use that drive on the Wii U and nothing else. The Wii U uses a proprietary file system for it's storage.
2. If you use a external hard drive, you must have a split Y adapter to power the drive or use a externally powered hard drive. The USB ports on the Wii U do not provide enough power. Plug the Y adapter in the rear USB ports.

I went to go do this mod to my wii u but my wii u bricked itself. The story about not turning your wii u on for long periods of time does indeed bricks itself.
You can’t install games on to an SD card via WUP GX2 (which you never covered in your video). It tells me to install on nanu or USB. I had to install a hdd to play my games.
lol installed my games onto the sd card with wup gx2 no problems

Yes you can transfer them from an SD card to an external HDD to play them. The video indicates you can play them off an SD card. There’s no mention of an external HDD.

@@saftjana7820 No. when you transfer your roms from PC to SD card, then you put your SD card into your Wii U console. The program via the home brew launcher that installs the games onto your Wii U. I install them onto my external hard drive, so I can play them.

There is a way to install the Homebrew Channel and revert Mii Maker back to normal. I'll link a video later.
Sorry I am late getting back to you. In the following link I am sending you, in the description setting download the file from mega upload. Shortcut to the part of the video that talks about the vWii. At the beginning of this segment they show how to install a separate homebrew channel. After installing this delete the following file in this path on your SD card ./wiiU/environments/tiramisu/modules/setup/50_hbl_installer.rpx

Remember the file needing in your installer folder is a folder called HBC [random numbers]
just press home in the launcher

Yep, nothing like the Wii U...3 consoles in one with one 1080p HDMI cable, no need for physical mods, expensive component cables and other shanenigans...
Just get:
1- Wiimote and Nunchuck.
2- Wii Pro or Normal Controller
3- Wii U Pro Controller
4- Gamecube controller
5- Gamecube controller adaptor for Wii U
Not that hard to get in my country and imported the adaptor from Amazon.
I would add the "fight pad" GameCube style contoller that comes in some fun character designs. I have the metal mario one. It's useful as it has a home button, a proper Left Button above the left trigger, and connects to a wii controller like a nun-chuk.

Hi Blainde, this is a fantastic tutorial. Thank you very much. I've tried following the tutorial, but when I try to lunch Healthy and Safety holding the X bottom, nothing happens and it goes back to the Wii U menu. Any idea on how to continue pass this issue?

You can do general searches on youtube like for example: “how to install and play GameCube games on a wii u”
The only thing you’d have to be mindful about is the version. For example, a method of playing GameCube on the wii u can be outdated or patched. So make sure what you’re doing is up to date.

I got a few questions 1. Just to be clear, will this exploit work for version 5.5.6? 2. Do I nee to insert a blank SD card for back up? Also, what kind of a back up will it create the original unmoded or moded? 3. In addition, your process of merging is a bit vague, I don't get the merge prompt do I automatically assume that everything is placed into the apps sub directory of the wii u folder and If so, why not just paste most packages into the apps directory to avoid any confusion?

How do I put my modded WiiU back to factory if I have an old mod on it? It's been like 5 years since I touched it & forgot all the mods. Don't even remember what I have installed. Just know it auto boots into cfw & I have games installed as channels on home screen. Maybe it was called haxchi or something. Really want to start fresh.

The only thing I don't like/hate about this mod (not the tutorial) is that it overwrites the mii maker channel. I'm not going to mod my Wii u for that reason and that reason only. Lol.
you can still use it if you just click the homebutton in the homebrew channel but i haven't tested if the mii maker actually works
Tbh, that’s kinda a dumb reason. You can play every wii u game and more at the cost of the mii maker channel that isn’t technically unusable. But that’s your choice
I believe I followed all steps correctly, but homebrew doesn't show up when I go through last steps for selecting "Wii menu". Any thoughts for troubleshooting this? I did not notice the latest savemii version you have in the link doesn't match what you have in video.

I wanted to ask for the setup of different games do you need more than one external hard drive or you can use one for all as long as you don’t go over the capacity?
