I'm a function-over-form guy when it comes to western hats and believe a hat brim is supposed to serve the function of keeping the sun and weather off of you as much as possible. It's a tool and not a fashion piece. This video started out on such a positive note for me when you pressed the brim flat then put a decent-looking crown in it. Then my red flags went up when you mentioned "corners" and my suspicion was confirmed when you ended up with the start of one of those goofy-looking rodeo bends in the brim that I'm assuming will get worse when the customer shows up to have you "customize" it further. I was really hoping the popularity of the Raylan Givens style would eventually put this rodeo-bend trend to bed. If one is not actually swinging a lasso by their head, why would they want a silly-looking hat that implies that they do? Granted, it's as bad as the hipsters and stage performers with rolled-up scrolls on either side of the crown, but it's bad enough that I feel compelled to say something whenever I see it.
gReat video.i got a nice hat and is kind of dirty...Is a 4XXXX beaver and don't wanna use industrial cleaners afraid of damage the hat ..what you recommend to do it.? thanks and keep the videos. I was looking for profesional cleaning services but there is not one in my town.
Sergio, Thanks for your question! Mostly I would try to brush it out as much as possible. If that doesn’t get the desired result try using dry shampoo. Spray it on, let it dry, then brush it off. I also have a few videos explaining how to clean a felt as well on this channel, so feel free to check that out. I hope this helps!
Hi, thanks for all the videos - definitely helpful as I try to reshape a few of my hats. I couldn't find your video on how to clean a felt hat. I saw the one for straw hats, just not felt. Can you post a link? Thanks!
We are currently filming a video all about cleaning felt hats. As soon as it is up I will link the video for you! Thanks for checking out the channel! S^C
Oh man I am stuck at step 4 of 5 lol I have the sides and front/ back looking the way I like a but how do I add the banana curve or tip? the curve that runs front to back to make it not point toward the sky in the front. .. without messing up the straight square in the front. Took me like two hours to get the front straight and square without too much taco. Now I just need to figure out the banana. What's the secret? Anyone?

Awesome video! Excellent tips!
Thank you!
My dad said if I cut my mullet off I could get a couple hundred bucks and imagine buy 2 cowboy hats and some new bull riding gear

What hat are you wearing? I love it!!
It is a Sun Body 3” brim palm leaf hat that I shaped myself.
Can shape it with hot water in Spray to Felt?
Every hat that ever seen anyone shape was ALWAYS shaped exactly the same way ... This is the reason when I buy a hat I always shape it myself ...

Try to press down a bit, i kinda shape my hat while i'm wearing it on my head, once i steam it, i just put it on my head and start to bend it.
