Machine learning paradigms dominate Silicon Valley. For startups, the saying is "Fail early. Fail often." It's to get one's sea legs. The goal is to learn the ropes, know all the issues around one. It's learning to "navigate the error surface". This builds breath, resiliency, to deal with a larger set of contingencies. Going directly to success is not necessarily a blessing. Of course, just like a stock trading portfolio, one has to take into account the risks, how much drawdown one can take, probability of success ... It's a very calculated approach, in building a runway, whereby one can move forward, in a systematic way, esp. for things at the cutting edge.

I've been living by these principles for years before I came across this as a proper philosophy which has existed for a long time. I'd like to add that in case of a paradoxical intention you don't have to want to fail, that will be counterproductive. You just have to be okay with failure.

I don't see it as wanting to lose, but rather welcoming events as they happen, they're two different things in my opinion. I think the key to always winning is to change your views of winning and losing to something that is entirely in your Control, for example: for me winning isn't being in first place on a competition full of people, but rather participating and giving it my best; and losing isn't being in last place, but rather, not taking part on a competition i really wanted to be in, and it depended entirely to me. I don't see it as wanting to lose, i see it as fully embracing events as they happen, even if it means being in last place, but that doesn't mean I have to enter something wanting to lose. My view, really enjoy your videos, been watching for Over 2 years now, it really helped my personal growth. Keep up the good work
I was thinking of Rocky this entire video. We spend the entire movie seeing him prepare for the fight. All that training, and he loses. But we still get the victory music because winning wasn't the point. He just wanted to fight the champion. You still feel like he accomplished something great even thought he lost the fight.

A couple of months ago I tried to win a scholarship. My approach was very stoic. People were saying "you'll win it". And I'd said "we don't know, maybe I won't, either way I will try my best and learn from it". And they'd said I was pessimistic. I was just being stoic. I didn't win it. But that stoic approach helped me a lot.
After reading Cicero I found something interesting. It doesn’t matter if we win or lose but what matters is our intention. This suggests something other than expecting to lose but rather that actions performed in virtue are worthwhile no matter the outcome.
Another great video! I have adopted a losing attitude with a right-wing opinionated roommate who tries to engage me in a conversation where he must be the winner at all costs. I ceased to respond to his invitation to engage in conversations, by being silent (no response to texts) and by avoiding interacting with him. In this way, I have peace of mind by not engaging in inane arguments. I win.
By adopting the policy of not engaging in a discussion with someone with a strong opposing opinion I have SAVED SO MUCH ENERGY. This LET THEM BE attitude is so calming. At 77 I am now relaxed and refuse to be triggered. 😊
He might feel strongly about why he's right wing, it may not be he wants to win, but share his thoughts. Is he older than you? Has he lived more experienced more? If so, it may be you who are lacking not him. Being right wing is not a crime, being sanctimonious about your views is. Tadej Pogacar is probably our times best example of a stoic athlete. He never blames outside factors when things dont go his way no matter how unfair things seem. 03:51 🎭 The musician’s anxiety heightened due to shifting his focus on uncontrollable external factors.
04:20 🌪 Attempting to control the uncontrollable increases anxiety and insecurity.
05:12 👑 Epictetus uses Zeno and King Antigonus to show how valuing only what you control makes you fearless.
06:15 🤷 Zeno’s indifference to King Antigonus’ opinion of him makes him invincible.
07:15 🚫 Avoid competitions where the outcome is not within your control to never lose.
07:40 🔄 Internal positioning towards winning or losing changes the competition to mere action.
08:08 🤲 Adopting an attitude of accepting events as they occur ensures constant inner winning.
09:08 🏆 The Stoic perspective makes every outcome a win, whether in adversity or favorable circumstances.
09:34 🗿 If Sisyphus enjoys his task, his punishment ceases to be a punishment.
10:04 🧘♂️ Detaching from the desire to win relieves pressure and allows focus on performance, making both winning and losing beneficial learning experiences.
10:31 😱 Embracing what we fear, such as failure, can alleviate anxiety. Fear is often induced by a specific desire or something we aim to avoid.
10:59 🤔 To manage anxiety, identify the underlying desire; removing the desire can mitigate the anxiety.
11:54 🔄 Viktor Frankl's 'paradoxical intention' teaches that aiming for what we fear can diminish the fear itself.
Note: It may diminish fear but you get the wrong outcome
12:46 🎭 Aiming for the outcome you fear creates a win-win situation: either you achieve what you fear, mitigating future anxiety, or you fail and get what you initially wanted.
Note: this is not a win-win. It is throwing the contest.
13:14 🤷♂️ Adopting a neutral or positive attitude towards losing turns even defeat into a form of victory.
What AI did you used?
Beautiful as always ❤
I just ordered your new book
Congratulations 🍾!
I enjoyed your first one.
So glad you’re here still making videos
Thank you.
Thank you for your videos. You've changed my life. From Egypt 🇪🇬🇪🇬
as I stopped pursuing my romantic interest, it worked wonders for my anxiety and solved my addiction problems.
I knew there would be no chance to be involved with romance again for it is costumed in the pursuit of this game that the male is the one who would make the first move in this love game.
it was still the right thing to do I think,
for my diagnosis was borderline personality syndrome. love was killing me. in multimodal emotional ways. this was 20 years ago.
You need better people in your life, even if they are other youz.
And have you found love ever since you stopped chasing?
@@Winnee9 short answer, no!
The opinions of others is something important to reflect on, but our goal should be to achieve goals set by ourselves and quietly take pride in our progress
I'm currently struggling with something. Thank you for your video as it provided me with some clarity.
Lose now win later, win now lose later. It’s all the same in the end, if you were to see the big picture
Facts pointless cycle
@@RandomPerson28337 it's not pointless. It only feels pointless when you are losing. But it certainly doesnt feel pointless when you're winning.
@@invan99999 so why does rich people and celebs still kill themselves? I saw an interview of a guy who was a multi millionaire with women and power and he still said it was empty. I trust his words and it isnt just him. The only people i see happy are the ones who dont care about winning or losing. Winning at life in terms of getting ahead or getting money is pointless. And when you die everything you do will be a joke. You think anyone cares about what you did when you die? And dont say it for "me" cuz when you die everything goes to black and every thought or desire becomes nothing. Aint no after life aint ntn waiting for you.
'winning' & 'losing' is all perspective.
Find the silver lining in every experience to prepare yourself for the end stage boss. Each new level brings new devils, be aware to beware.
Mind altering content here folks. Thanks again for another great video. Beautifully written and presented my friend. 10/10.
One of your best videos so far, the message, the script, the music 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 I needed this. The final lines struck a chord in my heart, since I am guilty of pressuring myself to perform perfectly in every aspect of my life, and specially in Music. Regards from a Mexican 🇲🇽 living in Sydney 🇦🇺
This video is God sent, I was literally thinking about a tournament I have soon and stumbled upon it🤝🏿 much appreciated
This is one of the best videos I've ever watched on youtube. And no I'm not overstating.
I've been living by these principles for years before I came across this as a proper philosophy which has existed for a long time. I'd like to add that in case of a paradoxical intention you don't have to want to fail, that will be counterproductive. You just have to be okay with failure.
This helps a lot because i have crippling fear of failure but after this i will welcome failure and thus making me more likely to win
Good to keep in mind for the second round of my job interview tomorrow😆
They have like 5 rounds, bruh. lol
@@BlackJesus8463 no mate, 5 rounds in the Netherlands is not common at all. This second round will be the last one. The third one is for the contract, policies etc. 😊
Good luck!
Keep up the good work
Endlich wieder ein Video von dir!
It never ceases to amaze me how similar Stoicism and Taoist philosophy is.
I was thinking of Rocky this entire video. We spend the entire movie seeing him prepare for the fight. All that training, and he loses. But we still get the victory music because winning wasn't the point. He just wanted to fight the champion. You still feel like he accomplished something great even thought he lost the fight.
👏Superb, Einzelganger
Clearing the path for what's ahead...the best revenge is to be unlike him, who performed the injustices. Be your best self not for spite but because I deserve the better life that I have EARNED.
When you want to win, the first sign of losing causes tilt which compounds upon itself until you lose, easy
I win.
You can't do anything liberal without others but you have no right to others. You lose.
Do you feel you are right and therefore should not waste your time in discussion with him?

He is 37. I'm 62. I hold a doctoral degree in cultural anthropology, with a lot of reading on my belt. And I am a retired college instructor.
He holds a BA in Poli sci.
He is a salesman in a work supply store.
He also has guns and loves video games that shoot at things.
And he listens to Jordan Peterson.
No, it isn't a crime to be right-wing, only that he tries to ram his political ideology down my throat.
I am live and let live. I do not shove my beliefs on someone's face and wish the same.
Yeah, it is not possible to have a decent conversation with a being such as that. His position is to have his opinions be true theories and that I buy them wholesale. He wants to win at all costs, and if you haven't done so, try having a grown-up conversation and exchanging ideas with a right-wing ignoramus. Good luck with that.

You got it! It isn't worth a smidgen of my breath to engage with people who have made up their minds based on hearsay information.
And the comment above proves my/our point.
Thank you, you have no idea how much this video has helped me. Thanks.
Positive and mind blowing content : as expected. I appreciate you and your work, as much as it is possible to do so. 👏😊

Love your work.
Terima kasih banyak. Anda telah mengizinkan video anda bisa di terjemahkan ke bahasa Indonesia, from Indonesian love you so much❤
The fact that this is so practical is fascinating... Great job!
Epictetus's message in this video resonates with the message in the Indian religious scripture Bhagwat Geeta.According to Bhagwat Geeta ' Action is in our hand but the results are not. Results depend on myriad factors outside our control. If we truly understand this fact, we will work hard but wouldn't be affected by the results not as per our wish.We will start again.
Insightful video! Congrats to you, your work is always valuable and precious. Keep being yourself🧘🏻
Beautifully written and presented my friend. 10/10
Thank you, your video is what i needed in these trying times of my life
if you have nothing to lose, you always win :)
One of the best videos you’ll made. I love it

thank you a lot for this video. Its amazing
All suffering is self inflicted
It hurts and you know it.
I was in a Go Skate Day competition. Joined, and while I'm waiting for it to start. I told myself I'm just there to have fun, enjoy the event. Because few years back i always don't get to win a single trophy, But that day it was different. I didn't want to win but in my surprise i actually won.
I want to win. However, if I don’t, I learn from my loss, make adjustments, and strive to improve. Nothing wrong with excellence.
Tadej Pogacar is probably our times best example of a stoic athlete. He never blames outside factors when things dont go his way no matter how unfair things seem. He's truly an example for young generations to follow. and look up to. I dont think he even knows about stoicism. Seems like it's just part of his natural way of being.
Great video Man
Hvala.
Thank you!
I have tried this and as awesome as it is, it hurts never getting the win. I instead chose to control the game such that I can only win or I'm not playing. I would rather scope down my attempt to get a winning result. I get enough problem solving in my work, I don't need uncertainty in the rest of me life.
I started controlling what I do in life and have found so much contentment where I before felt anxiety and mentally fatigued. I know that I wont be the best football-player so why even bother when I could work on something that I'm good at that I know brings me joy. Life is short, do what you want to do.
Losing is part of the game. You win and you learn.
Deeply insightful.. Bravo. I listened to several parts two or three times to get the geist.
I did not want to watch this video, so I watched it and enjoyed it
I think this relates to the growth mindset - to love the process and not get too worried aboutt the outcome ❤
4:45 Not up to us 👌
13:10 Attitude 🙌
Great content as always
truth is something which is constant.. it is upto the people to believe or not... whatever they do truth is the truth
