The Daily Yupari | DRAWING the PORTRAIT - HOW TO ACHIEVE A LIKENESS

- In today's video we will return to the larger transfer drawing we started earlier this week. We will start to develop some of the shapes of light and dark for the portrait. We'll add in a few half tones here and there, but the primary focus is on simple shape. I will also throw in some key factors towards achieving a "likeness of the model". This means figuring out what information is most important in making the drawing look like the model.
Tomorrow we will develop the hands. See you again soon!

Yupari the portrait God! 🙌🙌🙌
Another excellent lesson.
Very good, you got the likeness in the drawing too.
Thanks, Yupari for all your videos. I have been watching your teaching videos for a long time and this one I just came across today! The most useful tip and the use of this digital caliper I got only today! Amazing likeness you have achieved in this session. I ordered this digital device and hoping to be able to improve my portraits and of course, the credit goes to you! Thanks.
Good info! I love the tip about putting tape to remember light side and dark side of the stump! I want to do that, too.
Likeness is my most problematic area. THANK you so much for this lesson.
Hey Yupari, have a look at the book 'The Mad Art of Caricature'. He breaks down all the fundamentals that make up a likeness, and how to distort it and still keep the likeness.
Stop cutting the best parts of your videos. From 23m to 24m the portrait changed a lot :) thanks for your time and effort.
Very very good
Is it pastel or charcoal? I can't tell.
It looks awesome nertherless. Keep it up! 😁
It's charcoal, he mentioned he was using that instead of graphite in the previous video.

Sir! Your demonstration is excellent. From which books have you learnt the skills? which ones will you advise for learning portrait drawing?
I mentioned the book 'The Mad Art of Caricature' in one reply. This book has all the fundamentals to make a good portrait and a caricature too (so you can be creative and have fun). It shows very clearly how to draw all the components that make up the face (eyes, nose, ears, mouth etc). I have many portraiture books, but keep referring back to this one. A great book to have for anyone who wants to understand what makes an expressive face.
Her right eyebrow is it correct
What is the formula for top of head to chin? I seem to have heads too big and too wide ,
Please share refrance images with us
The face is longer a bit.. why dont you stick to proportions until they are correct then start shading, thats how you get the likeness
The drawing looks nothing like her
