Literally exactly what I've been working on recently! I've had shoulder instability for almost a year and have been rehabbing it for the past few weeks. This video will be a huge help, thanks!
Wow. I've had surgery on both shoulders for severely torn, labrums, and rotator cuff. I've seen what feels like hundreds of videos on rehab over the years and this is BY FAR the best. I'm blown away at your thorough and comprehensive presentation. Amazing job. Grateful for the time you put into making this. Thank you so much!!
@@joethomlinson6878 Hey Joe, Neither are 100%, but much better. I still get impingement pain after shoulder presses, or really any over-head weight traiing. I also have to keep up on my PT exercises regularly (even 10+ years out) or I'll get noticeable instability. But no dislocations on either side since the surgeries. Hope this is helpful! Thank you for asking and thanks again for the amazing video.

❤❤❤ By far, THE BEST shoulder rehab video I have seen so far! Thank you! I am so encouraged in my recovery. I am about 9 months out from my injury & still having cuff and socket pain and popping. I'm looking forward to being able to do planks again.
I have not received so much structured and useful information on shoulder recovery after surgery from any doctor. Thank you for your work, I will be returning to the sport based on your video.
I had no idea that being able to dislocate my shoulder as a kid, was actually had a name(Ehlers Danlos Syndrome) so cool. I've been feeling a lot of instability in my left shoulder when I do deadlifts or horizontal rowing, before these were my strongest lifts but due to studying a lot for exams and very little physical activity. I just learned I probably have Atraumatic instability(Loss of muscle control without structural damage). Feels like there's a way back no to fix this. I was scared I was done for especially since I didn't have any type of injury. Thank you for the awesome content I learned a ton!
This video is a gold chamber. Thank you so much! My shoulder injury is about a month old and I stagnated pretty hard in terms of stability. This helps a lot
Warning. If you have a dislocation you very likely also have soft tissue damage. Follow up with an MRI. I dislocated my shoulder, went to the ER, they popped it back in and off I went. I did my own physical therapy and gradually regained full use of the shoulder. About a year ago, ten years after the dislocation, I started having shoulder issues. Went to an orthopedist and we did an MRI. Ten years too late. We found a complete tear of the subscapularis. Nothing they can do because the tear is too old. I never knew because my body so well compensated for the tear. In fact, all the tests in the Drs office would suggest no rotator cuff issue. Do the MRI. Do not skip the follow up.
Rotator cuff tear has been proven to be in many asymptomatic individuals such as baseball athletes, since other muscles in the shoulder can compensate for the tear. therefore getting an MRI may still not change the management plan. Also surgery comes with risk of increasing arthritic change in your shoulder joint, so conservative measures would usually be the first option unless failed. Your shoulder started having issues could be contributed by the tear, but again if you don’t keep the muscles around the shoulder conditioned you are more likely to get a symptomatic shoulder in the future
Very similar story for me. Dislocated my shoulder more than year ago and did PT, which really helped. But just recently, had pain shoot through my shoulder suddenly, and found out I had a subluxion. My physician recommended I get a MRI... which my previous orthopedic didn't even mention. I'm trying PT again, but if I don't see any improvement, I'm considering a MRI
but if you do an exercise targetting the subscapularis you could notice if there's pain (potentail tear) or not right? because if there was a tear at that time and you specifically targetted the muscle you surely should have felt an issue and avoided all that.

Can you give me advice and feedback?
First of all - MRI and orthopedic consultation by an experienced specialist. Don't do your self-treatment. It's potentially very complex trauma to recover by yourself without any understanding of what exactly gas happened. Advices by an athlete with several dislocations, surgery and then dislocation again
i dislocated my shoulder twice last year and then i did a surgery for the shoulder capsule because it was teared and then it happen that i had a contact and felt smth wrong in my shoulder and since that my shoulder not stable and it goes like half way out not full dislocated but half way and then it comes back alone like muscles get cramped and it pull the shoulder back in its place i don’t know what happen and it takes months to have appointment and see a doctor and now i try to do rotation exercises with band and walls and mobilization so u think with those exercises can bring things better or not
hope that it will get better soon. I dislocated my shoulder while performing an exercise at the gym when I was 20 years old. I got it "fixed" at the hospital and than it never dislocated again ( I am 40 years old now😅). As I wrote I had no surgery so I don't have any experience in regards of a operated dislocated shoulder BUT , what I did several weeks after the dislocation was a lot of rehabilitation exercises and I waited a lot before I started to use weights in my workouts or doing any kind of sport. I tried to move my arm slow and controlled. Under the first 2-3 years I had some pain if I moved my shoulder too fast or if I slept in a weird position, but eventually those episodes disappeared. In my experience Patience and determination ( including determination in doing rehab exercises) are often the key. Don't rush doing fast movement or sports. Take your time! Step by step. Moreover I used to play the guitar at that time (I dislocated the left shoulder) and it helped me a lot because I did a lot of external rotation just playing the guitar, maybe you can start playing too! Nowdays I do my workouts every week without any problems (chalistenichs mostly but I also use weights) but , as a precaution, I try to avoid some extreme exercises/movements or in general exercises that I feel not comfortable doing. I suggest first to talk to a doctor if you have pain or if you feel that your shoulder is highly instable but I think that doing rehab exercises will only be good for you. But again, step by step, stay on the safe side and than try to improve your extension. Easy movements at first and than some more challenging ones. You need to build more strength on the tiny muscles around your joint. You will feel your shoulder more stable , your muscles will be stronger and will prevent that the shoulder will dislocated again and you will be more confident. But , as I said , take your time, do your rehab. NO RUSH. It will get better! It's not easy, I know, and it can be pretty challenging also psychologically but at the end of the day it will be good. Trust me.

Dr said I sprained my rotator. Hurt it while trying to start a lawn mower. It felt like it dislocated for a second. It's been 2 weeks and it generally feels normal unless I reach for something suddenly. Then it bothers me. When should I start exercises? Other than reaching I have no problems with range of motion
Brother much appreciate this , but I'm not able to do exercises like tricep overhead extention , skull crushers n lateral raises as I don't feel my shoulder is stable

What is the ball used called? Re-hab ball? Weighted ball?
Shoulder labrum tear surgery is BS. My son had it after a dislocation from a college football injury. Knee to the front of the shoulder. After full rehab and PT. It came out again from being tackled. It more unstable after the surgery. Go with extensive PT without surgery
