Thank You for this! I had a stroke several years ago & have issues with tip toeing & running. I hope these exercises work. I have sever foot drop as well. 🙏♥️
Severe neuropathy in both legs causes lack of movement, resistance to movement and pain. One year of exercise has made stronger feet and legs but not much change from the effects. Any advice? Thanks
As a foot specialist who works with a trainer, I am very impressed with this excellent overview. You cover multiple topics in a clear, concise, and efficient under 20 mins video!
Good luck! Do be careful of the jumping exercises. For safety, it's much better to focus on a soft landing than it is to jump high. Your heels should land on the floor every single time. A slower steadier pace with a good bend in the knees when you land is much better than the demonstration here.
I went full wide-toe box minimalist barefoot zero-drop shoes over 3 months ago when I got back into training. I have 2 pairs, one for paved paths and one for hiking trails. I regularly train, hike, ruck, jog, and run in these shoes. 3 months later, and my feet and my ankles have gotten much, much stronger and much more resilient. Am never going back to padded shoes ever again. Keep on rockin'! 🤘
@@FacesandSpacesStowmarket That is totally rad! And you are most certainly right. There definitely is nothing like the feel of the ground. The only time I'm wearing my barefoot shoes is when I'm out the door and sometimes when I'm training at home. Other than that, I'm usually barefoot at home and in yard. Just a few weeks back, I started jogging around my neighborhood (just over a 0.5mi loop) completely barefoot just to build up my feet callouses. Trying to bring back the feel of way back when I was a kid and going most everywhere barefoot after school and on the weekends. 🤘😄
I HAVE WEAK FEET. WHEN I HAD SURGERY ON MY RIGHT FOOT, I DIDN'T HAVE THERAPY ON HOW TO KEEP MY FEET STRONG. THANK YOU . I HAVE STARTED THESE EXERCISES.
This was a phenomenal comprehensive review of why it's important, what exercises, frequency and duration and the escalation to more difficult weight-bearing exercises. I have ruptured my plantar fascia three times now. The last time I was put in a soft boot for 8-10 weeks. My podiatrist never suggested physical therapy to recover. As a result, I continued to have pain and discomfort to the degree that I couldn't walk. Normally they put me back into a boot for another 6 to 8 weeks. I came out of that. The same issues. What did the boot do, it stripped my leg from the glute down to the foot of any strength and affected mobility. Mobility. The most obvious observation is that when standing on my right foot I cannot get onto my toes. No matter how hard I try, I cannot lift my heel, not even to slip a piece of paper underneath of it. That's weakness and it's weakness that stresses the ligaments and joints in the foot. Your video covers so much of what I wish I had before I put on a boot and after I took off the boot. I'm a year and a half into this miserable experience. I have spent thousands of dollars on orthotics and images. I have now seen four doctors, two podiatrists and two orthopedic specialists and I'm on my third round of physical therapy. Just because they're doctors doesn't mean that they have the answers or that they're going to give you good treatment that will solve your problem. I can honestly say my first podiatrist really did a poor job of evaluating and coming up with a good treatment plan from a to z. I got steroid injections. I even had my blood extracted spun and re-injected into my foot. Again, thousands of dollars spent many hours of work lost and it's taken me completely out of my activities, like tennis, boxing, swimming, running, hiking. I feel cheated and demoralized. I really appreciate the video you put together here. I'm definitely subscribing. Thank you so much
I feel like I'm just one step away from dealing with this. I'm a server and walk anywhere from 16k-22k steps 5 days a week. I'm in excruciating pain every night. I also lift weights. I've been doing calf raises but they haven't seemed to help. I'm getting frustrated. Hopefully this video helps.
I can’t wait to try these! The exercises seem like they would bring so much relief to aching feet & ankles. I’m rehabbing a torn meniscus, ankle sprain and stress fracture in my foot and I think this will help in every way, thank you!
Great video. I’ve needed to build my foot muscles to recover from drop foot. I’ve already gotten far enough to lift my foot a squatter inch off the ground before I found this video
@ I couldn’t promise. I can barely lift my big toe on my bad leg. Lifting my whole foot, has improved a little, and I can press down all my toes and foot as strong as before my critical incident back in 2015
OMGOSH, this is so good. Going through the exercises, I couldn't do the toe yoga. I was shocked how weak and uncoordinated I am. I've got some work to do. Thank you for bringing my attention to this.
I'm a 68 year old woman with a lot of injury issues and no cartilage in my right knee. At one point I figured out that I, seriously, have incorrectly walked my whole life. Been trying to work out better ways to heal through gentle exercise. Thanks for the info.
My PT has been preaching this for so long. Nice too se this covered on a high reach channel! Foot care has helped a lot while a was recovering from ankle injuries
I loved all of the information in this video! I’m currently in PT for plantar fasciitis and once that is healed, I will most definitely be incorporating foot strengthening into my weekly workouts. I’ve been dealing with it for 9 YEARS, and my focus really changed from anti-inflammatory to degenerative when I stumbled onto newer research. Building adequate foot strength is so important to avoid recurring PF and I wish my podiatrist would have told me to KEEP strengthening my foot, instead of suggesting corticosteroid injections, custom orthotics, etc. Thanks for your video!! 😊
I’m about there in recovery too, working on it for already 1,5 year. I still have to do the light excersies, but I’m pain free. This is the best info found.
I ended up having a PRP injection done in March because I had a low-grade tear of the PF at my heel, an MRI showed. It’s been a long recovery, but I was told it would be. The initial pain has definitely started to diminish, but the immobilization I had to do for two weeks caused me some issues with my Achilles tendon and my posterior tibial tendon. Back to PT now and having success.
If you strengthen your foot, you wouldn't need the podiatrist anymore. Then what would they do? A healed customer is no longer a customer. That is, unfortunately, how our health care system works.
I am a big fan of performing single leg exercises barefoot so I'm glad you mentioned that in this video! There is nothing more challenging on your balance then performing a Hip Airplane or Single Leg RDL without shoes on! So many benefits to these exercises! Great video and very informative!
You get the cramp when you go to far go to the start of the cramp and hold then relax next time go a little further, eventually you will rid yourself of the cramp
I used to fight my foot cramps until i got plantar fasciatis. now im in constant pain in my foot. Watching this video to see if strengthening my foot will help because stretching and icing has done nothing.
Wow, well done !!! Thank You. The best, comprehensive feet video i've seen. Really a great "one stop shop" for taking care of and strengthening the feet. Keep up the great work :)
Wow. So much valuable information on just the foot. It will take me some time to digest and practise. Thank you so much. I am currently trying to rehabilitate my hip, and realised, that I cannot do it without also looking at the knee and the foot. The foot on the side of the problem hip is pointing outwards, and most pressure lands on the outside foot rather than the middle and the big toe. My inner voice has been telling me that I will not solve my hip problem without solving my foot position.....and then I came accross this video.
Thank you so much. I am suffering from a corn between the 2nd and 3rd metatarsal bones. This has affected my gait and I look forward to do these exercises.
I can't tell you how many arguments I've had with people about arch support and strong feet. Wonderful video. I'm a Reflexology Therapist so I'll be send viewers.
OMG! What an amazing article! Much more complete than the info in the corrective exercise course I am taking! Love all the visual support and all the progressions! 🎉
Thank you so much. In my left foot i've fractured the heel, first meta in 4 places, dislocated the 5th and broken the 3rd/4th. 3 different injuries and spent a lot of times on crutches/walking boots. I'm having terrible troubles with my left leg/knee/hip and I think it's stemming from my foot. It is always painful, weak and doesn't feel normal to walk on. I can barely control toes independently, going to get to work!
Wow! As someone who has seen TONS of videos about foot exercises, this one is amazing! Very complete, I don’t think I need to see another one! Thank you for your thorough job!
I have issues with the joint under the ball of my big toe from jumping on concrete without shoes--excruciating to walk for a while unless wearing thick slippers/shoes, but even after healing it gave chronic issues. I learned that limiting extension helped initially. For prevention I learned to walk while adjusting tension in the arch of my foot. It also prevents me from placing too much weight on my heels and getting my heels sore too quickly. Hadn't gotten technical about it, but the foot acts up on long walks and hikes. So in preparing for hiking season, I'm researching foot exercises. This video is a gold mine compared to the articles I found, not just in learning new exercises but in understanding why/how my accidentally discovered exercises were helping.

Never heard so much great informative video before. Strong feet and ankles can only lead to athletic and whole body exercise. Many thanks for the topic which many trainers overlook.
Awesome! These are great reminders of exercises given to me by my physical therapist and also wonderfully clear explanations of the increasing effort/benefit with the modifications!❤
I was born with a poor gait which caused my feet to over pronate. I am now 68 and have bunions and my big toes spread slightly underneath my next toe. I have been informed I do have arches but the overpronation was caused by my ankles. I am unsure how to go forward with some foot exercises as basically my toes are in the wrong position, hence I get cramp sometimes in the feet and the tendons become taught, again I guess because my toes cannot stretch into the correct position. I will though give these exercises a go and see what transpires, who knows I could end up with new feet. Great video.
This was so well done and so informative. Thank you! Dancer here and my big toe doesn’t bend/respond to movement. I’ve seen people use therabands for the entire foot but not just the big toe (I don’t know why I didn’t think of that🥴) thank you! I’m going to have to watch again and take notes lol. I wasn’t expecting so much info🎉
I appreciate this breakdown of purpose and practical application. I have wanted to learn how to heal my body. Walking is part of my daily routine and I needed to understand how to make it less painful. I look forward to sharing positive feedback on my journey. Thank you again.❤
Thank u very much. I am having problem in both the knees and unable to walkneatly. I am having peripheral neuropathic foot and I want to attention for my ankle and peripheral neuropathic problems also. If you suggest any exercises I will be greatful
It would be worth noting that for individuals who have pain and misalignment resulting from cramping shoes, especially in older people who experience a lot of stiffness, weakness and loss of big toe mobility, many of these exercises will be far too advanced and could cause damage. Especially those at the right hand end of the range. For people in this group it would be best to begin by simply using toe spacers for half an hour a day for the first week and changing your footwear from “normal” shes, which cramp the toes, to barefoot shoes and no shoes at all at home. You can gradually increase the use of the toe seperators until you can tolerate wearing them all day. Once you begin to get the toes realigned in this way, which will take a few weeks, you will find that you can begin to progress with the strength exercises, beginning at the left. If you have bunions and inflammation of the large joints on the big toe, you may also need to use a bunion correction device for a few weeks to get the joints realigned before these exercises are advisable. This well also help to stretch and relax stiff muscles before you begin the important work of strengthening them. It really is a case of don’t run before you can walk.
Would this help with persistent plantar fasciitis pain? Background I work at a warehouse/DC which means a lot of walking on concrete. I have boots that have a wide toe box with very padded insoles that worked for me before but seem to be failing. I’ve gotten it under control for the most part with a stretching routine but it’s still getting in the way of me taking cardio up again. I was hoping a strengthening cycle would do the trick

Good for you! Also, invest in some minimalist, ergonomic shoes. Pointy toes reduce your balance. I like Lems and Merrell Vaper Glove

Very informative vid about a body part that is often neglected and forgotten.

Fantastic! Thanks for providing such a variety of exercises.
Amazing, thank you❤
Thank you for your video
Super complete. Amazing. Thank you.
I have the same problem and hoping foot strengthening will help.
Me too!
Strengthening should help, but it can take months to see a difference
