Here are my 2 cents. I am a member at sxf. The only thing that I do like from this brand is the tshirt bra although that one teared after 1 year of owning. The panties ripped after the first wear. The lingerie is very poor quality sometimes but they do have very good lace material. Usually when I mention this, her fans come for me and think me not liking the brand equals me not supporting "diversity". Every brand needs to stand for SOMETHING and whatever they stand for simply is a marketing strategy. To me sxf seems to be doing fine because it IS rih's brand or more like she is the face of it. Compared to VS, Hunkemöller or even h&m , SXF is not MY first choice because it is pretty pricey for the cheap quality Oh and they deleted my low ratings too on their website😅😅
Yes! I was so excited for the t-shirt bras! I loved how the back strap was lower so it didn't squish or bulge anything like VS ones did. I always thought it looked like I had back fat with other brands. But as you said, mine fell apart in no more than a year of getting them.
Its such a constant complaint from customers (the quality) that part of me thinks its planned obsolescence in order to keep people on the membership 🤷♂️
@@understitchYT you had such a great point with being sceptical about their alleged manufacturer. Justfab was known to be shady, I wouldn't be surprised if they kept being shady
What about millionaires, any moral ones there? And thousandares? Hell, are poor people moral? Mayhaps human beings fight for their individual interests, regardless of their economic class. You, fighting for a slice of things that belong to rich folk even though we all know you would take their place in a heartbeat. And rich folk fighting to maintain status quo where YOU can’t come take their place under the guise of fake moral superiority.
Thats how these hollywood demons are. Anyone, who puts his/her/they trust in celebrities , is a lost soul. They only care for ur money. They will chew u up and spit u out and yall still love these people and are loyal :-D
The subscription savage x fenty definitely caused them to fail. Many have tried to cancel and have still been charged. The brand also doesn’t have any identity in terms of design. Every collection looks completely different and they make, lingerie, sports wear, clothing etc. Just too broad to attract loyal customers, the quality is also questionable. The fenty show was a great idea, but wasn’t enough to save the brand.
I literally had to cancel my card because I couldn’t cancel the membership I didn’t want in the first place. At least cancelling my card and deleting my account solved the problem but it was a massive inconvenience!
i remember when i asked to cancel my subscription since i wasn’t able to pay other bills with that huge payment plan and the assistant literally told me “i know it’s a bad time but keeping your subscription means you can have discounts” IM LITERALLY BROKE
VS was my first job. Those bras were expensive (prison labor) but they lasted years & years. I could my the price & construction by sight Savage that the quality of Savage was poor. A cash grab is a cash grab no matter what. Brands that intend to stay around for the long haul move very differently.
I wish I had said that myself ‘brands that intend to stay around for the long haul move very differently’. Youre very right, perhaps this is why we are seeing a revival of VS soon while SXF has no chance of that
I kept watching tiktoks about her billionaire status and how its not possible without exploiting someone somewhere down the line, now I wonder if this is it or if its the tip of the iceberg
@@pinksmokeysmash1482 It's not really her imo, but she has made a lot of money off of this system from TechStyle, which has routinely been called exploitative of their customers
I don't get how people can see this brand as suiting their morals and ethics when their manufacturing process is not exactly sustainable or ethical at all.
It doesn’t seem that their manufacturing is very good, no. But then, that’s always my judgement when a company doesnt disclose their production at all 🤷♂️ usually if its good they shout it from the rooftops (even when it isnt good they try to claim it like H&Ms ‘recycling’ or Tods shoe for shoe deal)
I mean even if you don’t, which I don’t, everything is. Are you not gonna wear a pack of underwear from Target that’s made at the same place as a fast fashion brand or stop eating veggies because some farms are bad? A lot of people just agree that one thing isn’t bad enough because then their whole life would be returned 😅
@@tonijackson3421 ya i agree with you, personally though if i am aware of something being unethical i will try my best to choose a better alternative like thrifting or buying from a small business or if i do buy from a retailer that probably isn’t as ethical i’ll just buy less

Rihanna's fans (Beyoncé's too) always throw a tantrum when someone has complaints about quality issues because of this goddess-like imagine they've built. The other day I saw someone complaining about their seat view in the Renaissance World Tour having no side screens in the stage or whatever. Have in mind this person did it in a very respectful way...kickly her fans started to say stuff like "BE GRATEFUL you're seeing her". Excuse me?! This is cult mentality as you said it perfectly in your video.
I think thats the one thing that that book was missing. It did a great job of explaining how companies encourage and manipulate for that behaviour but doesnt talk much about the after effects
I am a beyhive member BUT this is what annoys me too. You can't criticize ANYTHING about neither of them. A lot of people think rihanna is more relatable and "humble" hence why she has this crazy ass fanbase years after no music. I never got sympathy for her because she always seemed so low energy in everything she does and did. Which is why I am a bey LOVER (LOVER because I won't kiss her ass for every sht she does especially not that random @ss ivy park line)
@@iggypop7226 They LOVE bringing Beyonce up even when its not related to the video. Thats why the hive react like they do. People complain about Bey whenver they can it reaks of hating
The only celebrity clothing brand that I believe has succeeded is Victoria Beckham, who wholeheartedly embraced her love for fashion and made it her primary focus. Good American also deserves credit, with Grede's remarkable business acumen likely contributing to their success. However, many other "celeb" brands tend to disrupt the market and erode customer trust. A clothing brand cannot simply be a hobby or a trendy project; true success requires unwavering passion and dedication.
I agree, she genuinely put everything into her brand and its paid off in the regard that she is now a considered fashion designer. However, she has said recently that if she knew then what she knows now she wouldnt have started the company. So. im sure it was an exceptionally tough growth for her
@@understitchYT first of all kudos to your incredible channel which is exceptionally done . I will second to what Victoria said and also say that had I known from the beginning how hard it would be I would also not have taken the path I took in fashion
I think skims has reached/is reaching a point where the brand stands alone aside from Kim K, I see a lot of people online that definitely don’t want/wouldn’t benefit from kardashian alignment and they are buying skims because of the fit and quality
I’m currently a member with Savage Fenty, back in January they charged me when I forgot to skip for the month, I tried getting a refund and they said they couldn’t do it which meant I had credit to spend. It took me another 2 months to even find items that I wanted to buy and when they came the quality was so bad, for what it cost it was really disappointing.
@@chanela.7786 at the same time I am sitting here, never had issues to skip, as long as I messaged them between the 1st and the 5th of the month. Also I moved to a location Savage X don't deliver, so I messaged them to explain and they not only canceled my membership, but refunded the existing VIP credits that were there for some time (months). And you literally pay 0 for the membership itself - 100% of the membership fee is usable for purchase under VIP credits. Every company has shade about it, but the membership information in this particular video is straight up wrong
Slapping "Black owned" to appeal to the audience was one of the smartest marketing decision the brand took. People and their celebrity worship has them thinking Rhianna is going door to door delivery their orders to them. Your channel is amazing. I love how simple the videos are, no dramatic music in the background.💕
70% of their ads show models in bras that look horribly, uncomfortably ill-fitting. Not a company I trust to make bras that actually fit me. Any brand that has models in clothes that don't fit them is a huge red flag, but extra so for lingerie.
Like. I'm a plus size woman. I'm arguably who they are trying to pander to. But them squeezing the models into bras that spill over shows that they want to show plus size money without properly designing plus size garments that fit plus size bodies. And a lot of it comes across as still being very male gaze-y. Opting for too-small bras that create more cleavage instead of fitting comfortably, putting aesthetics clearly over comfort and what women actually want when buying bras (and repeat-buying bras from a brand they're semi loyal to).
thanks for sharing, finally made me cancel my membership. their customer service people really don't want you to leave, sheesh. i've been skipping months for months but this just gave me the push i needed!
Great video! I've never tried Savage X Fenty, the subscription element was actually one of the things that deterred me. I think the inclusivity element of the fashion shows was what really brought people in because that's something a lot of people value (we saw different body sizes, genders etc which felt empowering) and I feel like that was enough for people to overlook cost/quality along with having rihanna as the face of the brand. It was interesting to hear about the business being made to fail but then also that it's worth a billion and they're opening physical stores, it will be interesting to see what happens in the next couple of years especially as rihanna has stepped down as CEO.
I agree, its so incredible it managed to get so incredibly big in such a small amount of time, though, they sold very cheap products for a high cost at high volume in said short amount of time. I agree it changed the game when it came out, a company with this POV was very much needed, but why do they need to exploit the colsustomers theyre claiming to cheer? Of course it has to fail when thats the case
It's honestly not surprising. I was excited when the brand dropped and was in serious need of new bras. I didn't want to buy from Victoria's secret after learning more about the brand, so I jumped on it... the SXF bras I got barely lasted a year before they started coming apart, the padding in the bra cup coming out, and the little rose gold clasp and other parts started leaving green staining. So disappointing because I loved the cut when I first got them, and the back strap was lower, so it didn't squish up the skin behind your underarms to look like back fat. It was so cheaply made, and then when their antithetical practices came out, well...
And to think, if they actually had good quality, they were so well poised at the beginning that they couldve been something truly great (without the membership too tho 😅)
I’m surprised that VS lost so much business. I still own a black T-shirt bra from 2016, I put it through the wash regularly and it still looks new. My issue was the downfall of VS because of “body shaming” while Savage X Fenty kept promising a storefront that never happened. Personally I can’t buy lingerie online because panties/bras fit differently based on the fabric.
@WhatIShayyy Don't get me wrong, I'm back to wearing VS! At least until I find something I like better. The quality was always there. If I was the same size, I'd still be wearing the bras I wore in my early 20s. They really do last. It wasn't really the body shaming that I had a problem with, though I'm not a fan of it either. It's my feeling that VS was always marketed a certain way, and it was falling out of favor regardless, but body shaming is also part of the modeling industry. It's not ok, but it's like telling a cat to stop being a cat. The branding was outdated, and it showed. But being "body positive" for the sake of marketing and not actually committing to it isn't that much better imo. I just didn't want to support Les Wexler, and I think a lot of people were disturbed by some of the things that came out about him. And since he still owns the brand and several others, I still don't want to support the brand. People should buy what they like regardless of the owner or what they can or can't afford it. Marketing needs to reflect the times, tho. And it felt like VS was stuck in the early 2000s. It was more of the same every year. Granted, it had brand recognition, which is also really important, but it doesn't hold that importance if it's no longer bringing people in. The new direction they've gone isn't that interesting either. It's just doing what a lot of other brands are trying to do right now.
This what I don't understand. They have made a tremendous amount of money. Why not try to fix these problems legitimately and have a brand that can still make money (maybe not on the same level but would still be profitable). They have the resources to do so...seems they just don't want to. Seems like a scam all over.
Yeah exactly. Its purely a money grab and until the parent company is made to stop I dont think they will, the company has literally existed for decades, they know what theyre doing is exploitative (allegedly)
@@scpatl4now It would need far more than just changing the name to make this brand work after that. TechStyle will keep going with a new brand Im sure, but Savage X Fenty is almost too well known and too widely panned for its quality for it to rebuild when it does eventually fall
Bahahaha my mom got scammed by JustFab probably 10 years ago or something and I still remember her sending a very salty and insulting email threatening legal action because not only did they make her subscribe but it was also nearly impossible to cancel. I was never a fan of the subscription thing when it comes to clothing and it's always a scam. I never thought Rihanna would stoop so low as to make it her thing. Hell, I don't even have loyalty cards because they are bullshit and I loathe websites that force you to create an account in order to check out.
Plus, if your brand isn’t shitty with shitty quality you wouldn’t have to “force” your customers to shop every month or to pay a loyal customer membership smh 🤦🏽♀️
I wanted to try buying something from sxf a few yrs ago but was immediately caught off guard by the membership bs. My heart goes out to those that fell for that scam
Whats interesting to me is the sode step they did in promotion for it. At the very early stages it was all about the membership, even that vogue article I showed in the video focused a lot on it, but then there was a pivot and it became kind of secondary and not as obvious until you went to pay. Really curious
Love your content on both channels, please could u do vids on -rise of charlotte tilbury - rise and fall of topshop -rise and fall of vampires wife - rise and fall of marchesa (i believe georgina made a deal with a devil (weinstein) to get that brand up and running
Rihanna doesn't care about this bag. I went into a VS store over the weekend and I have to say, much like Abercrombie, they really have heard the voice of the consumer and changed the marketing of their products to be way more inclusive. There was acrtually one bra that was so gorgeous that I actaully wanted to buy it and I haven't bought bras from VS since high school. I also think they're targeting a more mature woman as well so that might bring in all the customers who aren't into Savage x Fenty products. Not only that but several employees welcomed me with warmth and always made sure to talk to them if I needed help. It's details like that that keep a brand afloat. I'm curious to see more from VS and see if they bring back the VS show but make it Gen Z.
Have you seen their new inclusive branding? Its a really interesting direction of the brand. Theyre definitely relying on the brand name, but theres a lot thats gone into it. Its also got a new owner, I think its only owned 2% by the old owner
Those stores are underperforming and are empty from what I've seen and heard. The writing has been on the wall for years. I recall it being reported that 70% of Savage revenues were the subscriptions. It was also covertly reported that they wern't profitable. To mask that they'd report "double growth" or fixate on one producf that sold well. They also rushed out the announcements about it being a $1 billion brand. Alot of tactics.
The subscriptions skew the profits and allow for misleading profit brags for sure (though they dont talk about figures AT ALL, so its hard to know to what extent that is)
honestly I think one of their big downfalls is that social media has been so oversaturated with pictures of people in the brand's lingerie that it no longer feels special whatsoever, imo something rlly loses its intimacy when its so broadly known and that's especially important when it comes to undergarments--at least for me, I love the diversity of their campaigns but the majority of their designs do not in any way capture sensuality and embody a very fashion nova-esque heavy handed sexuality that feels simultaneously cheap, tacky and uninspiring, Best way I can describe it is they are the brand equivalent of showing a ton of cleavage and they entirely fail to capture the element tease that something like an open back dress provides, when all is shown nothing is longed for and it lands the brand into costume territory for me
Yeah I understand this, the brand on social media is overexposed and so it affects its value. Thats interesting, I hadnt thought of that, but youre quite right
I never bought anything from that company because of their affiliation with justfab, shoedazzle, and fabletics. All of their money comes from subscriptions and it's shady af because you will never know. They have all of these celebrities endorsing them and having lines with them and it's messed up. I will never purchase from any of them again. Fenty beauty is amazing though.
Yeah, I wouldn’t touch them either, but luckily Fenty beauty is a totally different company. Somebody commented that they think that LVMH will buy Savage just so they can get the control on how the Fenty brand is received, and I think that’s actually quite interesting, I would like to see that happen
I was caught in justfab membership, was a nightmare trying to cancel this was a few years ago. Would never buy from savage fenty for this reason and also the bras look like they offer no support and look tacky to me.
I feel like people just recognized even with the more inclusive branding, the brand was still overpriced, middle quality goods that are attached to her name. That can carry it for some time definitely but it wears off even with the engagement from the shows.
Man I remember being being so excited about supporting this brand when it was first released. I also remember all the backlash it got from the get go because the product on the website wasn’t anything “unique” or “special”. I still want to support it because she’s one of the few celebrities I really like. But I do remember buying products from them and was ultimately disappointed especially with the packaging. I got the correct bra sizing, but when I tried it on the bra was not only cheap feeling, but it didn’t fit me at all. So also, their sizing’s were off and they weren’t very big boob friendly. Lastly, the subscription setup is frustrating as well. After that I just never bought anything else from that brand. On a positive note, I do like the underwear though. But the underwear ended up tearing and ripping after a year. But I do think the brand is very inconsistent when it comes to quality of their products and overpriced.
I find it disheartening when any brand makes a product that is meant to fail or break after a period of time, regardless of the industry, as this planned obsolescence is a clear signifier that they dont care about their product nor customer, that they just care about making money. Unfortunately with the Bernard Arnault-ification this has come to most luxury goods these days, but isnt exclusive to fashion. Things from apple products to skincare thats made with bad ingredients to keep you needing more, its all a huge frustration to me.
Curious how long "inclusivity" gimmick will last... It is getting tiring and, at the end of the day, all I care about is quality. Give me a product that will last 2+ years.
Why cant we have both? Why did companies ever say they disagreed with a group of people? Its not good for business, its not good socially, so what is the point? Imo we should be able to have a company thats not badly intended *and* has good product that doesnt use questionable manufacturing processes
@@understitchYT you definitely can have both. If a company chooses a slogan to be the DNA of the company, isn't it better to be "quality" "craftsmanship" etc. rather than anything else? It feels like when marketing is pushing a social agenda, there is nothing to the brand but the social agenda.
You are a true scholar, expert, and reporter on this subject. Your research is deep! As a stylist and costume designer in LA for decades, I find your work fascinating AND reliable. Those who doubt you don't know what they are speaking of. Love your brutal and honest work, thank you!
One would think after all the social media exposure of the star system, people would be able to see past the celebrity endorsement, the “inclusivity” rhetoric, political correctness, “sustainable” practices, the influencers’ sponsorships and the rest of marketing tricks.. Corporations will support ANYTHING if that makes more sales. And Rihana is just a girl who wants all the diamonds she can get her hands on. In reality there will NEVER be anything relatable about her. People can spend their hard-earned money any way the can, but they should do it in an informed&clear-minded way at least. Every one of them lies through their teeth just to make money quickly on our expense, and yet we still look up to them. 😒
well, Fenty Beauty was genuinely inclusive and changed the makeup world, its a solid business, so off the back of that it seems they included that inclusivity ethos here, which would be fine and on brand if it wasnt directly exploiting the people whom they claim to champion
Ed Razek wasn’t wrong about the pandering part though. I feel like inclusivity as a marketing tactic feels disingenuous because it’s only trying to please a small subset of people who care more about the concept than the products.
Yeah, he wasn't wrong that it was pandering or at least benefitting off of the rising unhappiness with the male-gaze-focused perspective lingerie had until that point. They noticed a gap in the market and targeted that group, its the recipe for most successful businesses, it was his other comments that weren't okay really
@@understitchYTAgree. Sad that SxF would have actually succeeded had they had a good enough product to begin with. They don’t have to look very far (i.e. Fenty Beauty) to see how Product is everything. That didn’t even have the kind of huge Marketing push as SxF had.
If this brand falls, I won’t be too surprised, honestly. I went to their flagship shop and their stuff was just so ugly, basic, inconsistent and cheap! There is no consistency among their collections. I can’t believe people actually buy this stuff! Then the subscription aspect? I wasn’t aware of that, but huge red flag 🚩 after my dealings with JustFab in the past.
It’s really a shame, there wasn’t a more ethical company that was born of the fall of Victoria’s Secret, especially considering that was kind of the point of the fall of Victoria’s Secret
I immediately canceled my subscription when my lingerie started to come with labels “ this material may cause cancer.” I was so shocked that Rihanna, a billionaire, would source cheap material and find that acceptable for her customers/fans. When I wrote on Instagram and Facebook my complaints about sourcing better materials that don’t put people at risk, I was shadow banned.. what a fucking joke.

I worked for Victoria for roughly a decade and was part of many transitions in collections and marketing. Happy you are covering this !! I made a deep-dive about Fenty x Savage on my own lil channel & discovered that relevantly, the brand also has a dictator as one of its investors ;-) so much for #inclusivity & #disruption 😋
I just watched your video (on double speed, I watch everything on double speed Im ngl) and it doesn't surprise me that their investors are shady, firstly because TechStyle have always had just anyone with money back them, as most companies do really, but also secondly because anyone who has access to that kind of wealth, several million to spend on a risk, is likely to have acquired it in a manner that is untoward
Very interesting. I almost bought into the fabletics spiel but luckily checked the comments beforehand and people were warning about the issues. I never realised it was a popular business model, what a con!
Its not a popular business model at all! Its quite rare actually, but so exploitative. I just cant believe they convinced so many celebrities to get on it. There must be a huge monetary reason 🤷♂️
Wow. This is really eye-opening. I really enjoyed SxF. I didn’t keep my subscription because I couldn’t afford it, but I still wear the SxF onesies I got regularly. Lingerie was never my focus, so I didn’t realize the quality was so bad, but reading the other comments is very illuminating. As far as ethics and morals, I’d really love to hear about fashion houses and brands that ARE producing items ethically.
I've tried to do a lot more rise and rise videos than fall videos, purely because I personally prefer to see a happy story, or good business ethics, good ethical practices in manufacturing etc. But these videos just never perform as well on the app, so now I try to pepper them in with more uplifting companies :)
@@understitchYT I totally understand! I love that you do both! Videos like these are very informative, and it’s also the case that people simply love to be outraged. On another note despite the not so great aspects of the business, it definitely helped push things forward with representation/inclusivity and because Savage X Fenty is so popular it's forced other brands to do the same!
Things were definitely going that way, but it really pushed it forward, thats certainly true. It was the capital (from both parties) that really afforded the company that where the other inclusive startups just couldnt compete
This is such a good break down outside of how you feel about Rihanna. I didn’t know the brand was a collab or about the payments and subscriptions because I’ve never ordered 😅
I was wondering why they had the subscription. I remember doing justfab and shoe dazzle in my 20’s and hating when I would miss the pass the month fee date. So when I saw Savage x Fenty was doing the same and fabletics, I was like nope 🙅🏾♀️

I remember calling Savage X F canceling my membership that I had no idea I signed up for, the next month they took out $50! I’m like what!?! Had to call again and cancel- I was heated- I did get my money back. But the bra I purchased (2yrs ago) I wear almost every day 👀😂
They never had my size in ANY of the products and I never heard anything good about the subscription service. All negative. Glad I never invested in her brand. Although I DO purchase her makeup and I do like a lot of those products.
The make up really is great. I covered it on my beauty channel and its truly a solid business, well foundationed, great reviews, all around all good. My only worry with that is if this brand and beauty get too mixed together and the criticisms of savage start affecting beauty, I really don't want that
I’m just coming across this video, just in time as well, I planned on buying from SXF for the first time and this solidified my no. I tried looking for YT review videos but most of them are really old aand negative reviews. Thank you for putting so much effort into your content!
Please excuse my lack of knowledge of the history ( was it their behavor in China ?) of this brand ? But, What are some of the reasons as to why they are so " problematic " ?
@@iiwhatisyouremailprivatenn2470 ..they spoke out against IVF and so called “unnatural” means of having children. “Chemical offspring” and “rented uterus” As well as an abhorrence to the idea that a child would be brought up by two parents of the same gender. Vastly archaic, it was the Balenciaga S&M Bears of its day. It was infuriating because I really love their work. I wish they would keep their mouths shut and just get on with the job 😓
I can't explain but I didn't trust this brand from day 1 because of the quality. I could SEE the bad quality on the models wearing it AND even more so in the pictures on the site. Nothing against Rihanna, maybe she didn't know. Unfortunately, nowadays, you can be SURE they knew they would sell enough products BEFORE this became known. It would still be profitable. The power of marketing. Disgusting. People pls don't believe everything you see/read
Yeah for sure, they KNEW it would sell before they released, I dont think they couldve hoped for more when Victoria Secret tanked itself, it got much longer legs because of that
I had no idea about the Fabletics connection though it makes perfect sense that they are under the same parent company. I was put off Savage X after trying to unsubscribe which was a nightmare, love Rihanna but it’s such a bad and deceptive business model.
@@understitchYT True! I totally understand she’s merely the face of the brand. I suppose my point echoes yours about how shortsighted it seems on her and her teams part to endorse and attach her to such a model and not something more sustainable.
The products are hit or miss. I was happy to have a “Black owned” intimates brand to support, especially since it annoyed me that Aerie kept changing their fabrication. I’ve only made a few purchases within the last year or so. My friend and I always remind each other to skip the month’s charge. They no longer cancel your charge if you purchase before the due date, so you have to be on it! I’m good at remembering, but I may finally cancel my subscription because I rarely buy anything.
it seems superfluous to need a subscription for a product that most people dont buy on a monthly basis and it makes me question why they would go out of their way to get our data like that
I agree with you about a subscription service for bra and panties. It just didn’t make sense; plus there was never any items in my size, and I am small. I think Rihanna should focus on her beauty brand, and leave clothing/undergarments alone for now.
Rihanna was an ultra-manufactured industry plant from the very beginning. Her musical artistry was limited at best and her music was generic pop. Her only assets were her looks and her charisma. The inclusivity gimmick was just a branding tool that capitalized on the subjective moral whims of the public.
I’ve skipped so many months!! My last set I got was the black and white three piece with the DIARY! They used to make quality subscription boxes & I’ve honestly seen a major drop off in the creative aspect of the designs of fabric AND THE BUILD
I don’t like the idea of the subscription. Something about you forcing me to shop every month instead of allowing me to shop when I want to seems predatory to me. Also, the quality of the few pieces I did buy was terrible. I loved Rihanna at the time and I still support Fenty Beauty, but savage Fenty put a bad taste in my mouth about her.
I’ve never brought from fenty for this very reason ( membership ) my mum tried fablettics ages ago but it wasn’t a good experience. We didn’t know about the membership and cancelling it cost us like an extra £90. I would never use membership like theses.
I wear Empreinte bras but when SXF came out I tried one of their latex bras…. It was uncomfortable and scratchy. I was able to return it easily because I bought it on Amazon. I will never be a “member” of a clothing brand.
@understitchYT her music was the main thing I loved about her. To me most of her music is about empowering women, all are beautiful, or just being that girl you wanna be, but then she goes and dates a colorist and he's said some degratory stuff towards women before.
I literally had the membership and it took me SO LONG to actually get off of it I used to get charged even after cancelling it actually took like 6 months to finally get off of it
I have no idea how somebody would like a subscription to a fashion brand. I ordered some mens wear line products and saw a video online talking about not knowingly being subscribed to the brand. When I checked it out, I had a subscription as well that I didn't know. I'm glad I came across that video to cancel it before they charged. It is a very nasty way to get money and I am sure Rihanna knows this.
I think they changed everything with the new owners, I’m not sure what their quality is like now to be honest, but I would assume good because it’s very basic
It's funny you bring up knickey bc I'm literally in the brand's warehouse packing orders while listening to this no joke. That was really unexpected lol.
I started not liking the company when they changed they credit system. You used to be able to get $50 worth of stuff. Now, most if not all subscription clothing webites turn the $50 into 1 credit. Which is now 1 item. Them and Fabletics are trash for that
@understitchYT yes. Like store credits. But the subscription service online really bothers me. If I let you take $50 from me. I'd like to get $50 worth of items. I bought some slippers from fenty. They were $12, they used my $50 credit. Not cool
Ok so I haven't finished watching the video yet but this was an instant subscribe situation, for three reasons: 1) you pulled out legal documents to make a point, which is proof that you care about facts and actually did research ; 2) you didn't name the person that made the legal claim, which is proof that you care about people and ; 3) you used a Cher tweet to illustrate a point, which is proof that you are a funny person who has TasteTM lmaooo These are just too many positives for me not to make a dumb comment just to tickle the algorithm
I’m a Rih fan but I will admit, I do not like sxf. My mom bought me house slippers & matching shorts last Christmas. The slippers busted after about 4-5 months along with the sports bra clasp that has now broke. Ive had bras for YEAAARS and never had a problem whole clasp break…. Poor quality and the weird subscription trap has turned me off completely. I use the foundation and make sure to caution myself if my skin start acting funny.
Great video!! Also...i just dont think a majority of the fashions are that cute. Alot of it is giving grandma when I want Victoria Secret's sexy but make it inclusive...just my 2 cents I did LOVE the Valentines Day lingerie from a few years ago and own some of the other pieces i find cute
I’m still a member of sxf and I’ll be real when the deals work they’re worth it. I forgot to pay in the earlier years around 2019/2020 and they gave me 2 credits (worth $120) . Good customer service and vip bundles worth $49-60 will get repeat customers plus new clients. I just put a reminder every 3rd day in the month to not get charged. You’re saying it’s going to fail but it’s more than likely the brand will tie into the beauty/hai/home decor lines. Which would possibly make for another rebrand. Truly limitless
I was almost lured into a SXF membership but...the price point combined with the rave reviews by paid sponsors made me skeptical. Usually something at their price point , is not of the OUTSTANDING quality the paid sponsors made it seem like it was. I'm glad I held off. Call me old fashion but, I'd rather continue to buy my underwear from department stores where I can feel and try on the product. aaaand I still have Victoria Secret undies from YEARS ago that I still faithfully wear. VS is sketchy AF but you cant deny their product quality.
There were SO MANY paid sponsors too, and they all said glowingly positive reviews, which contrasted too much to the unpaid reviews. It was the juxtaposition for me tbh, if they had paid for honest reviews it would be less obvious that they had no faith in their own product
Glad I've found this channel. Very informative, supported by text and evidence. Does anyone know another channel about fashion history? Mainly haute couture from House of Worth, Pioret, Maison Premet, Vionnet, Gres and so on. I've been able to only see shorts; but nothing in length or substantial.
Theres nothing like that yet, but Im working on it, in fact a history of Vionnet is already up on my patreon, so will be coming to RUclips in the coming months :)
Its so interesting to me that this issue really divided people. Neither side is wrong, really, both make good points, but the way our socials collectively only showed us one side or the other is baffling to me
I ordered from them once and the quality was trash. Honestly the membership turned me off from the start. I never joined but I was told that they make it extremely difficult to cancel. It just didn't make sense to me as a consumer. I've been waiting for people to get real about her lingerie. It's particularly sad because I love Rih and really wanted to support her. I usually regard her as one of the few celebs who care about what they put out, and I still see her that way generally, but Savage x Fenty has been disappointing from the start and I'm honestly surprised it survived this long. Her celebrity is powerful but no one can continue to purchase trash... she had sooo much time to fix this... very disappointing...
I will never ever support any of Rihanna’s businesses ever again. I forgive her for the mess I went through with her company but I definitely view her as very phony now. I supported her businesses prior to the very first fenty puma drop. Savage fenty has nice designs but they gave me a hard time because someone I lived with also had an account. This is AFTER we both were making orders with no issue. She played on black womens emotions just to make money and I’m sorry I supported her and not more reputable businesses. And no I’m not a celebrity worshipper I just thought she was really about the things she said when starting this company. Boy were a lot of us wrong.
Ive noticed this a lot in the Black community that theres a real tide turning in how they feel emotionally exploited in this way. Sure, we know companies like Walmart do it for Black History Month, but it hurts so much more to notice when Black people also do it. Specifically Beyonce seems to get a lot of criticism for this, well her and the lady that screwed over BLM
@@understitchYT I agree ! I think it also hurts because it perpetuates a large feeling of distrust between black celebs and their supporters. However, I’m a firm believer that you should believe half of what you see because sometimes things must get worse before they get good. Channels like yours and honest media outlets are very important in a time like this. Promoting the truth so eventually these people and corporations can no longer hide their true intentions and the world can see some form of positive reformation.
@@nothankyou2850 Thank you very much. I agree that unbiased media is just really important. We all know everything is exploitative and theres no ethical choices under capitalism, but as long as we are aware we can make out best choices within that (hopefully without judgement). So with companies like this, for some it might work really well, for others, it wont and they shouldn't have to find that out only after their caught in a membership they cannot quit
She could've had a great product. The promotion worked but the one thing they had to do, they failed. Can someone explain why some companies get huge amounts of money from investors but put out bad products?
Its because of a few things. Usually when they give investor presentations they will have to talk about their price point and positioning, if theyre quantity or quality, their margins and their projections. This is pretty much the minimum and its what gets the brand the go ahead with funding. Purposely making the product worse, or in some companies case planned obsolescence, gives them bigger margins, affects their growth projections and so usually helps guarantee the business will succeed, therefore getting them more money from investors
Compared to VS, Hunkemöller or even h&m , SXF is not MY first choice because it is pretty pricey for the cheap quality
Oh and they deleted my low ratings too on their website😅😅
Yes! I was so excited for the t-shirt bras! I loved how the back strap was lower so it didn't squish or bulge anything like VS ones did. I always thought it looked like I had back fat with other brands. But as you said, mine fell apart in no more than a year of getting them.
@@frumtheground that's really, really bad because the fit was literally perfect

True 👏👏
not referring to Rihanna but there are such billionaires who are sympathetic and moral...they are human too, there is the good and the Rihanna
Yeah I agree with this. Product wise there wasnt much different to VS even from the first show 😶🌫️
I believe the variety/expansion is to appease the athleisure market, as well as to compete with VS Pink and Aerie.
I agree
people are moving toward brands like Shein and HSIA
I literally had to cancel my card because I couldn’t cancel the membership I didn’t want in the first place. At least cancelling my card and deleting my account solved the problem but it was a massive inconvenience!
i remember when i asked to cancel my subscription since i wasn’t able to pay other bills with that huge payment plan and the assistant literally told me “i know it’s a bad time but keeping your subscription means you can have discounts” IM LITERALLY BROKE

i just ordered from there & it didn’t give me a hard time to cancel, i just hope it actually did it..cus $60 monthly is too much.

Yes!!!!!

I think skims has reached/is reaching a point where the brand stands alone aside from Kim K, I see a lot of people online that definitely don’t want/wouldn’t benefit from kardashian alignment and they are buying skims because of the fit and quality
and the Olsen twin's The Row too. Super good quality but just that the price point... 😅
Not giving a refund on a product or service that you don't want is illegal, so how is it so allowed when its a membership? Maddening

@@chanela.7786 at the same time I am sitting here, never had issues to skip, as long as I messaged them between the 1st and the 5th of the month. And you literally pay 0 for the membership itself - 100% of the membership fee is usable for purchase under VIP credits. Every company has shade about it, but the membership information in this particular video is straight up wrong
After you said that the collab with JustFab I knew exactly what this would be about. JustFab is honestly so predatory

Slapping "Black owned" to appeal to the audience was one of the smartest marketing decision the brand took. People and their celebrity worship has them thinking Rhianna is going door to door delivery their orders to them. Your channel is amazing. I love how simple the videos are, no dramatic music in the background.💕
It was smart marketing, but its so disingenuous that it gives me the ick. Im glad you wnjoy the videos, I try to be as fair as possible 🥰
people need to think more critically about brands that attach such buzz words to their name like that.
@@jacquelinealbin7712 They didn't get so many complaints about fit for nothing I guess
thanks for sharing, finally made me cancel my membership. their customer service people really don't want you to leave, sheesh. i've been skipping months for months but this just gave me the push i needed!
LOL...have you ever tried to cancel a cable subscription. That would be the "high water" mark for me.
Theres better stuff out there that wont try to trap you 🤷♂️
Great video!
It is a scam. They rob you.
@@understitchYT At which point they change the name and have another go...until people get wise and look under the hood at the people running the scam

Whats interesting to me is the sode step they did in promotion for it. At the very early stages it was all about the membership, even that vogue article I showed in the video focused a lot on it, but then there was a pivot and it became kind of secondary and not as obvious until you went to pay.
They are actually bringing back the fashion show :) it airs in september
Those stores are underperforming and are empty from what I've seen and heard. The writing has been on the wall for years. I recall it being reported that 70% of Savage revenues were the subscriptions. It was also covertly reported that they wern't profitable. To mask that they'd report "double growth" or fixate on one producf that sold well. They also rushed out the announcements about it being a $1 billion brand. Alot of tactics.
The subscriptions skew the profits and allow for misleading profit brags for sure (though they dont talk about figures AT ALL, so its hard to know to what extent that is)
It's so funny to think, that hype didn't last longer than Victoria Secret....
Yep the store's are empty, so how are they able to keep them open...
honestly I think one of their big downfalls is that social media has been so oversaturated with pictures of people in the brand's lingerie that it no longer feels special whatsoever, imo something rlly loses its intimacy when its so broadly known and that's especially important when it comes to undergarments--at least for me, I love the diversity of their campaigns but the majority of their designs do not in any way capture sensuality and embody a very fashion nova-esque heavy handed sexuality that feels simultaneously cheap, tacky and uninspiring, Best way I can describe it is they are the brand equivalent of showing a ton of cleavage and they entirely fail to capture the element tease that something like an open back dress provides, when all is shown nothing is longed for and it lands the brand into costume territory for me
Yeah I understand this, the brand on social media is overexposed and so it affects its value.
Did you get out?
Yes but it was a lot of hassle, was on hold forever, tried multiple times to speak to someone and then they gry to encourage you to stay.
@@Helena-ht4ee eesh, well Im glad you dodged the second bullet at least
I don't trust any of these celebrity endorsed brands including skims, have I like some pieces from these ladies YES but I couldn't make purchase
I feel like people just recognized even with the more inclusive branding, the brand was still overpriced, middle quality goods that are attached to her name. That can carry it for some time definitely but it wears off even with the engagement from the shows.
Yes for sure, the impact of a celebrity brand is finite. Perhaps thats why shes exiting now 🤔
Man I remember being being so excited about supporting this brand when it was first released.
@@aleksandrinafekson2566 Right, they both should exist together, its not an either or situation anymore

@@understitchYT that exact contradiction is what makes them hypocrites.
@@FlowerPower1000 Yes, completely, it's always all marketing
@@understitchYTMeh. It is all plastics I bet.
This comment is literally describing my exact thoughts!!! I can only agree
@@zidvicious6047it’s a shame she didn’t take the time to produce a product of quality with this brand
Fat people also like nice lingerie. It's not that serious.
I don’t think she has any input at the company at all, to be honest, if that’s anything to make you feel better

Just went on their site and it feels so cheap, if Rihanna wasnt their ambassador I would expect low quality. A shame they are essentially scamming their customers. Also why did you pick that cover for the Victoria's secret video 😭
I was trying to get in the two men that caused the fall of the company and Tyra Banks (whose career really took off with VS) you dont like it?

I worked for Victoria for roughly a decade and was part of many transitions in collections and marketing. Despite having many criticisms of the brand while an employee, I loved my time with the company and the countless colleagues that became lifelong friends. Now, granted I am a cis, straight male, so I'm not entirely shocked that I've never even heard of SXF until this video, but it just seems like a group of sour celebrities who capitalized on the human desire to feel accepted... at least you knew we were all terrible, vain people at VS from the outset. ;) Great work by the way. I've worked for a few notable brands in my time and I always learn things from your channel. Thanks!
This comment made me laugh out loud in public, so thank you for that! I have a video on VS ready on Patreon, but I think I missed the boat with the fashion show, maybe when they do their documentary in the New Year 😂

@@understitchYT I wish could react to this comment with a GIF but literally, exactly that part. 👏#doublespeedgang
The subscription thing? No. The whole “we are inclusive” it’s just marketing, rihanna doesn’t really care about it. Huge no
Yeah its such a red flag
On another note despite the not so great aspects of the business, it definitely helped push things forward with representation/inclusivity and because Savage X Fenty is so popular it's forced other brands to do the same!
Things were definitely going that way, but it really pushed it forward, thats certainly true. It was the capital (from both parties) that really afforded the company that where the other inclusive startups just couldnt compete
This is such a good break down outside of how you feel about Rihanna. I didn’t know the brand was a collab or about the payments and subscriptions because I’ve never ordered 😅
Thank you so much! I really hoped that people outside her fan base would enjoy this too
I was wondering why they had the subscription.

But the bra I purchased (2yrs ago) I wear almost every day 👀😂
That sounds like an ordeal, but at least you like the bra
They never had my size in ANY of the products and I never heard anything good about the subscription service. All negative. Glad I never invested in her brand. Although I DO purchase her makeup and I do like a lot of those products.
The make up really is great. I covered it on my beauty channel and its truly a solid business, well foundationed, great reviews, all around all good. My only worry with that is if this brand and beauty get too mixed together and the criticisms of savage start affecting beauty, I really don't want that

Ive avoided them until now actually because they’re so problematic, Ive not wanted to give them the added exposure, but Ill consider it certainly
Please excuse my lack of knowledge of the history ( was it their behavor in China ?) of this brand ?
But,
What are some of the reasons as to why they are so " problematic " ?
Didn’t they once say that gay people shouldn’t have children?
@@iiwhatisyouremailprivatenn2470 ..they spoke out against IVF and so called “unnatural” means of having children.
“Chemical offspring” and “rented uterus” As well as an abhorrence to the idea that a child would be brought up by two parents of the same gender.
Vastly archaic, it was the Balenciaga S&M Bears of its day.
It was infuriating because I really love their work. I wish they would keep their mouths shut and just get on with the job 😓
I love your videos. They’re a master class in modern day marketing and business. Thank you so much ❤

It seems like the whole thing has very little to do with Rihanna past the promotion of it 🫠
@@understitchYT True! I totally understand she’s merely the face of the brand. I suppose my point echoes yours about how shortsighted it seems on her and her teams part to endorse and attach her to such a model and not something more sustainable.
@@miss_bougie6653 yes, completely, very short sighted

Also the idea that you can opt out seems to put the blame onto the consumer instead of the company that banks on you forgetting
I’ve never brought from fenty for this very reason ( membership ) my mum tried fablettics ages ago but it wasn’t a good experience. We didn’t know about the membership and cancelling it cost us like an extra £90. I would never use membership like theses.
Yeah, probably for the best
I wear Empreinte bras but when SXF came out I tried one of their latex bras…. It was uncomfortable and scratchy. I was able to return it easily because I bought it on Amazon. I will never be a “member” of a clothing brand.
You were certainly smart to get in on Amazon
I love rihanna but once she got with Asap rocky I knew she was a hypocrite like everyone else. Had my suspicious since the batgirl incident.
Why was asap the last straw for you?
@understitchYT her music was the main thing I loved about her. To me most of her music is about empowering women, all are beautiful, or just being that girl you wanna be, but then she goes and dates a colorist and he's said some degratory stuff towards women before.

They’re both High Street brands really, so I don’t expect either to be exceptional quality, but Savage is on another level
Victorias Secret is far worse in quality now than they were 15 years ago
I think they changed everything with the new owners, I’m not sure what their quality is like now to be honest, but I would assume good because it’s very basic

Really tho
I know very little about this brand but thanks for this video. It’s very informative

I started not liking the company when they changed they credit system. You used to be able to get $50 worth of stuff. Now, most if not all subscription clothing webites turn the $50 into 1 credit. Which is now 1 item. Them and Fabletics are trash for that
Often these companies credit what can be redeemed with a credit too
@understitchYT yes. Like store credits. But the subscription service online really bothers me. If I let you take $50 from me. I'd like to get $50 worth of items. I bought some slippers from fenty. They were $12, they used my $50 credit. Not cool
Always love ur videos!
Thank you 🤌🤌
Brand name stuff is always cheap garbage.
Depends on the brand, but also depends on what you personally value
Ok so I haven't finished watching the video yet but this was an instant subscribe situation, for three reasons: 1) you pulled out legal documents to make a point, which is proof that you care about facts and actually did research ; 2) you didn't name the person that made the legal claim, which is proof that you care about people and ; 3) you used a Cher tweet to illustrate a point, which is proof that you are a funny person who has TasteTM lmaooo
These are just too many positives for me not to make a dumb comment just to tickle the algorithm
Im glad you discovered me if these are things you like, you wont be disappointed with other videos 🙌
Im convinced its planned obsolescence to keep people on the membership
Yikes this is so disheartening, great video
I was quite saddened researching it tbh
Great video!! Also...i just dont think a majority of the fashions are that cute. Alot of it is giving grandma when I want Victoria Secret's sexy but make it inclusive...just my 2 cents
I did LOVE the Valentines Day lingerie from a few years ago and own some of the other pieces i find cute
Maybe thats because they havent really adapted our idea of lingerie in the way VS did? They arent really fresh in terms of the product at all
I’m still a member of sxf and I’ll be real when the deals work they’re worth it.
And they only go up to a G cup….not very inclusive
oop
It looked cheap even on the runway...

They definitely lost me with the subscription unbeknownst to me
And a subscription you cannot exit no less
they lost me when trying to rehabilitate Jhonny Depp to their audience. even Rihanna is canceled for me, for that.
I agree with literally everything you said, it’s just so disappointing
It happened to me it took so much to take off the $60 subscription
Gosh Im aorry
