    It may have been explained before, but during the R40 tour they went back in time through the show, starting with songs from Clockwork Angels and finishing the song with Working Man. So of course the stage starts out with props appropriate for Clockwork Angels, and as the songs get older, stage hands change the props until the stage is the minimal setup they started with oh so many years ago.

    Hey Red!!! ♥️
    Mark here. Please never ever apologize for going back to listen to a Rush tune. It's a sign of respect! Whenever you do that true fans smile and go back even further! Live Rush is magic. There are others out there giving reactions to their music. Sadly they don't have the passion for this band like you do. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

    it hit me with this song of theirs.... how in the world with their instrumental songs, like this one, like Xanadu, do they remember their transitions! Its one thing with lyrics, at least with lyrics you have a forthcoming lyric to know when to transition, but their instrumentals! .... absolute musical polymaths!

    • @tomr6090
      @tomr6090 Месяц назад +1

      Not being picky or persnickety but Xanadu has lyrics.
      The very long, varied and complicated intro is definitely much-enjoyed by all fans, old & new.
      It's a mini-instrumental thing before the lyrics start, which is a hallmark of theirs, kinda, I guess.
      Record Co wants Lyrics right away? The Monkeys said?... We & fans don't prefer that, Eff the record company!
      The no lyrics sung thing is doable. Counting the beats of each note, chord, & drum strike and relying on each other's timing, too.
      Besides, Neil is the freaking DRUM MACHINE! I'd say Rush has about half a dozen blowout instrumentals, good stuff!
      Neil once said that drumming a 3hr concert like they did use to be like running a marathon while doing equations. A Musical Scientist for ya! That scientist reference can be seen in one of the pair of the shorts called 'the real story of rush' (don't be rash) Parts 1 & 2 Haha! Check 'em out, the stooges at their best there! Takes a few viewings to pick up on all the 'inside jokes' going on in the shorts with references to lots of old rush stuff, yes. Like, Ray Daniels, if that's your real name. It's sausage time! Enjoy the shorts!

    There is an incredibly beautiful song off the Signals album. It is called "Losing It". Of course, there is the studio version, but if you dig around, you can find one of the only performances of it live. The reason for this song nearly never performed is the addition of a violin in the song. The man who performed the violin part on the studio album does perform it live with the band. It will pierce your heart and soul. I strongly suggest that you do a double set with the studio version followed by the live version. I guarantee that you will fall in love with Geddy's voice all over again. Also, the last song on the album "Count Down" is too fantastic and once again melds live clips (from a space shuttle launch) with the music of the band. Just go listen to the entire Signals album front to back, loud and not interrupted.

    I can't say this is my favorite instrumental of theirs (though I enjoy it very much), but it is one of the most challenging and innovative drumming compositions of Neil's. Just very creative and he was always searching as a player. I still can't play bits of it, as there's just something tricky about the song. He remarked that he spent a full 3 days learning the song and piecing together his part to make it what it is. And it shows. Never one to rest on his laurels. A good mantra for life.

    I’m sorry, I’m commenting before the video is over. The way you are talking at the end really reminds me of how we would talk after one of their shows! You sound like you just saw the concert! But much mellower. Pretty sure you would be jumping around and grabbing people as you were letting it out. The huge buzz always flowed out into the parking lot night. Sometimes we didn’t care where we were parked! The buzz took over. We usually had to go sit on the riverwalk or a bar for a while. 😆👍

    You may notice people in red jumpsuits (a nod to the Moving Pictures cover) behind the band are moving things around.
    During the R40 tour, crew members were setting up the stage to resemble its appearance in past tours retrospectively. As the music played in reverse order based on time, the stage arrangement adapted in a similar manner. The final songs performed had them in a high school gym, just like how they started.ruclips.net/user/sgaming/emoji/7ff574f2/emoji_u1f606.png

    I don't know how much you are interested in how Rush makes so much music live onstage. Neil has several MIDI trigger pads or petals. At 7:58 of this video is a shot of Neil's drum kit and there is a very noticeable disk with blue, white, and red circles of color. It may only be this color for the R40 tour, as usually it's solid black and difficult to see normally.
    I'm a Canadian, and having watched curling, my first reaction, on seeing this disk, was that it was the "House", but then found out there are 4 circles of color in the curling house. What it could be is the symbol painted on the wings of British aircraft in WW2. Canada and Australia, also use the same symbol, a 'Roundel', except Canada's also had a white Maple Leaf, and the Australian had a white kangaroo in the center.
    Finally, Neil's left foot has 3 petals he can use. The second base or kick drurm petal, the high hat petal, and a MIDI trigger petal. If you watch the correct video for 'Time Stand Still' you can see him tapping it to start a sequence that makes a sound when it presses it, and another sound a few seconds later
    There is also a 70 minute or so video of Neil giving a workshop on how he does drums, during the SARSStock music concert in Toronto. This was a HUGE outdoor concert July 30, 2003. There are several videos. The one I've seen most often, is Rush doing "Paint it Black", and "Sprit of Radio", but they did 8 songs.

    My top "guilty pleasure" Rush song is Red Lenses. For some reason this song gets beaten down by a few too many people, but Red Lenses has such a great groove. The song may seem to be a throwaway on the Grace Under Pressure album, known for some really intense and dark songs like Red Sector A and Afterimage, but I think having a light-hearted, sorta silly song on that album is necessary to maintain perspective and balance. Please check it out and post your reaction soon.

  • @tomr6090
    @tomr6090 Месяц назад +3

    Yup Red, they were not your 'average hippie band'(sex, drugs, R&R), so I can think of only one old song of theirs that can be read between the lines for what they're singing about, a treat they obviously enjoyed. ruclips.net/video/Wy7cmGyKwek/видео.html Like, if you know about what they're singing about, you'll know what it's about. You kind of automatically know or you don't about the subject matter. Keep in mind that this song was on the same B side (2112?) with the song Twilight Zone. It's OK, to play these songs around the kiddies and even older farts than me 'cause they won't know what the REFERences in the song mean anyway. No harm done then. 🙂
