Hey Red! Great to see you react to this, my favorite Rush song! I’d originally come to your channel for The Warning and one of the reasons I love that band is because they are a three-piece. Because each player is so important to the collective sound. I’d fallen in love with Rush 40 years ago for that same exact reason (and of course the most awesome music)! Just love a trio because you can just feel how each member adds to and drives each song. Love your excitement and enthusiasm as always. That was fun!
Alex was really rocking out that solo! Great fun! Yes these guys always had that much fun on stage. Next song Xanadu from Exit Stage Left YYZ live in Rio
Reddi - They are playing with joy because this vid is of their 1st live show in several years. Their drummer went thru a brutally hard period and this is his first time out since going thru that. PLUS - they're in thier home town. It was a great celebration that day for their fans and the band. PS _ I love redheads!
One of my favorites ever since the first time I heard it as a kid back in ‘80! I definitely agree that their music is made better because of the people making it, they’re just great dudes. And absolutely enjoyed your reaction to the live performance - thanks for sharing with us!!!
Your permagrin was epic! I've been a fan since '96 and trust me, every time I saw them in concert, you could tell they were having a blast. I'm glad someone has found the joy their music brings!
Lots more Rush, please 😁 This rabbit hole is immense full of all kinds of twists and turns, all dripping with greatness!! Always pay attention to the lyrics because there's always something profound being conveyed.
It's impossible to comprehensive best of list because the number of great albums is mind blowing. But some of mine that I have not seen listed are Mystic Rhythms, New world man, Red Alert, marathon, twilight zone, road to Bangkok, trees, Red barchetta, la villa Strang.
Great reaction. Listen to Working Man live in Cleveland for starters but don’t worry, rush, has 19 studio albums, and 167 recorded songs not sure of the exact number but this will start your journey for sure
👍Still one of the greatest prog bands for me .Great musicians and a epic drummer ,Neil Peart (RIP) who also wrote most of the lyrics and that was also very special ,in my mind at least.🤘
Question for the crowd here. Does anybody know the story behind the clothes dryer running in the background? It seems to be a running gag at Rush concerts, but why??? 😅
I do know that some people even back in my youth regarded RUSH as 'elitist' and too artistic in a bad way, but the truth is that this 3 member band was the best ever and most likely will that way for centuries to come...
@ashleygraham8781 I imagine the previous act at Live Aid did the same thing for Queen. There are some things you just don't miss an opportunity to watch. I also imagine the act to follow was thinking "how the hell are we supposed to follow that?"
The Stones and AC/DC both said this was one of the most professionally run concerts, sound, production etc. they played at. Just the best vibes ever... Helped the weather was great too and Toronto is truly an amazing city.
Yes, that was “Paint it Black” at the start of the song. Not sure if you got the background of this performance from the folks requesting it but this was referred to as “SARSstock”, a benefit concert in July 2003 after the SARS epidemic (COVID is basically SARS 2), headlined by The Stones and with lots of other bands. Rush, obviously, and AC/DC, The Guess Who, Blue Rodeo, etc. It was the biggest concert in Canadian history with between 450,000 and 500,000 in attendance! Great reaction to the energy and joy of the band!
Right before Rush went onstage, Charlie Watts, the drummer of the Rolling Stones, Introduced himself to Neil and said he was a big fan of Neil's work. you can only imagine how Neil felt when he went out to perform... Wow.
@@ricconway8719 I've never seen any music from this concert until now. What a treat. From what I've heard the band wasn't happy w/ their performance there. Tegan & Sara were in the audience and sensed the excitement level of the fans was off, as if most were interested in the Stones & no 1 else. Crowd looks hyped to me. Am I wrong?
This was SARSStock 2003, a benefit concert for the SARS epidemic, amongst many other artists Rush were third from the top of the bill, Rolling Stones, AC/DC, hence paint it black
What you're experiencing is likely the three best friends who ever made music. They had the ultimate respect and love for each other and because of that, they ALWAYS had fun! Sadly, we can no longer experience it live, but oh, when we could! Neil would never go up front for a bow, but ran off stage, as they show, while Geddy and Alex said goodbye to the crowd. At the very last show they ever did, he came up front for his final goodbyes ever. There is video of it, he surprised Geddy and Alex by tapping them on the shoulders and all three took a bow together before he zipped off as usual. I seriously have so much fun watching you watch them and reliving my love for them. I'm gonna say it again ... XANADU from Exit Stage Left. Best live performance EVER!
I dunno, I mean... everybody suggests that reactors go straight to what may be the greatest live musical performance in human history, but... maybe let her check out a bunch of other stuff first, and leave Xanadu for a special occasion? I mean, it's not like there aren't a couple hundred (literally) more cuts available for her to review from Rush first. :) She hasn't even done Tom Sawyer yet, ferchrissake!
Jealous. I finally go to see them a few shows before the end if the R40 tour. And I am beyond glad that I did. An experience I will always treasure. One of the VERY few as good or better live.

Even though you have now seen and heard Spirit of Radio live. I'd recommend the Rush animated video version of this song. I believe that it was released in 2020. It's done to the studio version (from 1980) so it can be viewed as a comparison to this one. You really can't go wrong with either version. The vibe of that concert performance was special.
More Rush for sure. I’ve been a Rush fan since 1976. You’re got over 40 years of amazing music to catch up on. Limelight, Freewill and Closer To The Heart are some more tunes to check out.
Same Rush experience for me. Somehow I missed them for the last 50 years. I was 71 when I began listening to Rush just 2 years ago, and it was their interviews, their RNRHOF speeches, and a couple of documentaries on RUclips that drew me in. And then, the live music!
As a Rush fan(atic) of over 40 years, I think Xanadu Live 1981 would be a good next Rush reaction. Here is a link to a good quality version: ruclips.net/video/1csqdoBsZ_E/видео.html
I go around looking for a reactions to the 1981 version of Xanadu (Exit Stage Left), just to watch people get blown away but what just these 3 guys can do live. Plus, it’s Geddy’s absolute prime vocally, which adds so much to the strength of their performance. You won’t be disappointed.
If they had an accurate map of the world maybe they'd have found Australia and Africa on their numerous "world" tours but alas.... still the greatest band ever that I just had no hope of ever seeing live.
I got hooked on Rush back in 1981 when I was 11 years old. Moving Pictures had just come out and Tom Sawyer was on the radio all the time. Been a fan ever since. In fact, they are my favorite rock band of all time. RIP, Pratt, and best wishes to Dirk and Lerxst. Thanks to you gents for providing a huge part of the soundtrack to my youth.
me too my first RUSH concert was 1981 Moving Pictures i bought all their records & learned all their songs for 2 weeks before the concert $9.50 in the greys MLG
For another comedic interlude, be sure to see Dinner With Rush: three longtime friends and bandmates, several bottles of wine, what could possibly happen? 😂😂😂
I'm not THAT old but it never ceases to amaze me the surprise classic bands sparks in young people. That's right, RedHead: back then you had to START with big energy. No band, I mean, not a single band from then met succsess by being stale and cold up there, not even darker bands like The Cure. I'm so glad young people appreciate the value of *moving* music.
The "Paint It Black" intro was done because this video is from the Concert for Canada SARS benefit in around 2007. It was a multi-headlining show, but the Rolling Stones were the main attraction. Rush nearly wasn't involved but felt they more or less had to do it. I think they had just come off of a tour and were in more or less shut-down mode for a break. They had to fire the whole machine up for a 4 song set in front of like 400,000 people.
The average rock band, 5-6 people. Rush- we'll do it with 3. And they have a bigger sound than most! A close second , another Canadian 3 piece- TRIUMPH!!
I've seen them over 20 times. They always seem to have fun and giving it their all. You should check out Rush in Rio. The crowd of 60+k makes it special as well. To hear a crowd sing to an instrumental ((YYZ) is wild. I say anything from Rush in Rio is fine, but Earthshine, Ghost Rider, One Little Victory, and of course YYZ are awesome! Enjoyed the reaction 😁 Take care ✌️
Hi Red! Love your reactions!!! Your next Rush reaction should be YYZ Live in Rio. It's my all time favorite live performance. The crowd was massive, and so into the band that they were singing along...to an instrumental 😂
You are exactly right about the joy in this video! For a future reaction, I suggest the live version of 'Freewill' from the Snakes and Arrows tour. Anything live from Rush is basically mind-blowing!
I've seen them both play and they were each amazing in their own way. Never got to see Buddy Rich, but I'd put him on the list as well. I saw Yoyoka Soma play last year and I'd say she's well on her way. Pretty amazing when you consider she's now about the same age Neil Peart started playing.
Surely among the best rock drummers. "Best drummer" is of course subjective and varies based on personal preferences, genres, technical abilities, and musical contributions. Music is a diverse and subjective art and different drummers resonate with different audiences for various reasons. Some modern day greats are Aron Mellergårdh, Luis Cole, Larnell Lewis...
That was one of the best reactions I've ever seen!!!❤🥰😍 More Rush: Tom Sawyer, Freewill, Limelight, Subdivisions, Red Barchetta, YYZ, 2112, Closer To The Heart, Fly By Night
My favorite band since 1979 (I was 12), so I feel emotionally connected to them. lol. They know how much their fans love them, but they're humble. They must love us too- listen to their music they gave us. There are a lot of great videos out there to show how funny & goofy they are. They truly are icons. I agree with the "Xanadu" suggestions from the Exit Stage Left album. Here is when they got inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (finally). ruclips.net/video/_KLuYXT6QMU/видео.html
I've been to a good number of RUSH concerts. They are the only concerts where the audience knows all the words and drowns out Geddy Lee. I've very happy that the next generation are loving the band as I have.
Been enjoying RUSH since the mid 70's...when Working Man was released ('74). I had all of their albums up to and including Grace Under Pressure ('84) and saw them live a few times. So I'm here to watch you enjoy some RUSH. If you'll take another request...try RUSH - 2112 Side One (the animated story-video): all seven parts. Alex and Geddy, the two on strings, have been together since 1968 at age 15 or so. So yeah, they got some stage chemistry and always appear to be enjoying themselves.
This actually came up for me in my search for Aurora reactions, but I love Rush too, and this is one of my favorite songs by them. Not sure I have a favorite version, but the music video is crazy good, as is the version they did for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, when they were inducted. (This is also a great version too, of course.) But speaking of Aurora, you should check out her newest song, "A Soul with No King - Remix" - a precursor to her new album out on June 7th!
Awesome reaction as usual!! A suggestion would be "Rush - Natural Science (Live at the Molson Amphitheater 1997) [Remastered in HD] (downloaded by Music Master)

Usually, when I note that I attended the very concert the reactor is watching, I can expect only one or two to write "me too!" Given how the crowd size was estimated at 450,000 on that hot and sunny day - frying like eggs on the old tarmac that had formerly served Canadian Forces Base Downsview - I imagine that I won't be the only one mentioning that I was there to see/hear it in person. PS - Fun fact: our recent, global pandemic was caused by the spread of SARS-COVID-2. This concert was held to boost tourism in Toronto, which had been hit by the deadly (but less transmissible) SARS-COVID-1.
The next great Canadian hard rock power trio is Freeze The Fall. Buckeye Creeker just experienced their first video, Glitch, and was impressed! I think you will be equally impressed!
Rush is my favorite band of all time. I recognized you from The Warning reactions. (My favorite newer band) Rush are the reason I play music. I could only ever hope to be a fraction of a musician of either of these three. YYZ in Rio is probably one of the most epic moments I've ever witnessed from a concert. Brazil brings energy unlike anyone I've ever witnessed. Alex plays a PRS guitar here which, are my personal favorite. (I prefer him on Gibson guitars though) I grew up 30 mins from the PRS factory. So I have an obligation to love seeing famous bands playing them haha.(Dany Villarreal plays one often too) On the topic of the ending, I also feel bad for anyone that had to follow Rush AFTER they played. Though I know AC/DC did well. Somehow I wasn't subscribed. I've since corrected that error.😅Take care!
Having seen Rush preforming live over 35 times. I can tell you the energy and guys having fun is/was very real. I never saw a Rush concert where I felt they were just trying to get through it. Personally I believe they learned from opening for KISS . That the band is there to give the people a performance worthy of the time and money the spent.
Ok, this one is MASSIVE. One of their most famous live performances. It’s the song YYZ from RUSH in RIO. They had never toured South America and those hardcore Rock fans had been literally waiting their whole lives to see the band they thought they might never see in their country. It’s bananas and they impressed the band! It’s truly very cool for us lifelong fans to see because we can really relate to the live concert experience. RUSH Night was always very special. I grew up with them from the beginning and they played my city on almost every single tour. That’s how I got to see them live on 18 different tours over the decades. I case you’re wondering, San Antonio, TEXAS a day one RUSH stronghold that the band loved. They said it many times that they liked the city and not just the fans. We were one of the very first places in North America to play them on the radio in the beginning and the band never forgot that day one loyalty. It was a SCENE! I’ve got stories for days. 😆👍
One of my favorites from Rush was not performed by Rush. After Neal Peart passed, the US Army Band, Pershing's Own, performed an acoustic of Time Stand Still: ruclips.net/video/aAPSK_cV5n0/видео.html
After the grind of Hemispheres that tested the bands musical limits, Permanent Waves was how they chose to relax. Spirit Of Radio is Rush throttling it back. 😊
The Rolling Stones lent their big show expertise to help with this festival and were one of the headliners. Charlie Watt introduced himself to Neil just before Rush went on stage and was watching from backstage, along with members of AC/DC and a few other Rush fans. The organizers issued 480,000 tickets but no one is actually certain how many people showed up at the old Downsview Airport that day. In my office, 12 of the 30 employees drove down from Ottawa to Toronto for the day, which was a Wednesday, and didn't get back home until between 3 and 4 am. Only one of them showed up at work on Thursday, because she had to make a presentation that afternoon.
And 3 guys make this sound..to me they’re honestly the greatest band all time hands down
Each member feels like they're doing the work of two people! 😂❤
There is no equal to Rush. None. Some bands come close but none have the magic that this trio had.
You are not alone. I am right there with you. The fact that they are incredible human beings is just the cherry on top.

Rush nearly wasn't involved but felt they more or less had to do it. I think they had just come off of a tour and were in more or less shut-down mode for a break. They had to fire the whole machine up for a 4 song set in front of like 400,000 people.
I was at the show, 2003 I think? It was a great day for music, all the bands rocked and Rush was a highlight for sure.
The average rock band, 5-6 people. Rush- we'll do it with 3. And they have a bigger sound than most! A close second , another Canadian 3 piece- TRIUMPH!!
The Who...
Triumph never got the fame and attention they should have, but those that know, know
2112 was my first rush album when it came out
I've seen them over 20 times.
Enjoyed the reaction 😁
Take care ✌️
My goodness! Any band that has to follow that, I pity.
React to RUSH'S Documentary - Beyond the Lighted Stage 😮😮😮
Non-stop energy from RUSH and the "redheadedneibor! 🧨🧨⚡⚡🎉🎉
Hi Red! Love your reactions!!! Your next Rush reaction should be YYZ Live in Rio. It's my all time favorite live performance. The crowd was massive, and so into the band that they were singing along...to an instrumental 😂
Great! I second this suggestion 👍🏻
You are exactly right about the joy in this video! For a future reaction, I suggest the live version of 'Freewill' from the Snakes and Arrows tour. Anything live from Rush is basically mind-blowing!
Yes PLEASE more RUSH 😁❤🇨🇦
FREEWILL Live

LIMELIGHT Live
Neil Peart is probably the best drummer that ever lived along with John Bonham.
Other noted live Rush, Xanadu Live 1981, YYZ Rio, Working Man Cliveland. There are lots more but those are the most popular.
That was one of the best reactions I've ever seen!!!❤🥰😍 More Rush: Tom Sawyer, Freewill, Limelight, Subdivisions, Red Barchetta, YYZ, 2112, Closer To The Heart, Fly By Night
Don't forget La Villa Strangiato!
Thank you so much!
You're very welcome & you're very lovely!😍🥰😍🥰
@@josbogers the classical intro AND the electric.
@@redheadedneighbor this was so good. i tend to think original studio recordings for the best sound esp for the first spin. not always though.
What a great song and a terrific post! JOY + PRECISION. Yes. Wait, I mean RUSH!!!
(This is also a great version too, of course.)
But speaking of Aurora, you should check out her newest song, "A Soul with No King - Remix" - a precursor to her new album out on June 7th!
Every time I hear this I get those goosebumps! It’s uncontrollable.
Greatest Band in the Galaxy!!
Their home town. Could you imagine being nerds and outcasts in high school, and then flashing forward to this?
High School memories listening to this. One of my favorite Rush songs. Great reaction.
Awesome reaction as usual!! A suggestion would be "Rush - Natural Science (Live at the Molson Amphitheater 1997) [Remastered in HD] (downloaded by Music Master)
Coolest 3 piece Rock band in History 🎹🎤🎸🥁track request: Natural Science 🤓
Yes, more Rush please.... 2112 animated version.... Long, but so worth it!
For energy, YYZ in Rio is great. There's no way to really go wrong with Rush. And, yes, they always have fun
Thanks you so much for yo I r shining smile
How are you, my friend?
Thank you!

@@redheadedneighbor 🫂 much love Red Thanks 4 more to go onc my back nearly half of my baxk will be under the knfe next week stiill looking forward to it all being over 😀
Usually, when I note that I attended the very concert the reactor is watching, I can expect only one or two to write "me too!"
Given how the crowd size was estimated at 450,000 on that hot and sunny day - frying like eggs on the old tarmac that had formerly served Canadian Forces Base Downsview - I imagine that I won't be the only one mentioning that I was there to see/hear it in person.
I second this. ❄️
So I have an obligation to love seeing famous bands playing them haha.(Dany Villarreal plays one often too)
On the topic of the ending, I also feel bad for anyone that had to follow Rush AFTER they played. Though I know AC/DC did well. Somehow I wasn't subscribed. I've since corrected that error.😅Take care!
Toronto Baby!!! Downsview Park.
YYZ live in Rio
After Neal Peart passed, the US Army Band, Pershing's Own, performed an acoustic of Time Stand Still:

I'd recommend Natural Science live in Toronto (1997) next.
Open mind - insert music - have a blast!
After the grind of Hemispheres that tested the bands musical limits, Permanent Waves was how they chose to relax. Spirit Of Radio is Rush throttling it back. 😊
That was an amazing day. Me, my gf, and 500,000 of our friends.
You are going to find a LOT of cool RUSH videos. The number 2112 is important for your future. 😁👍
The one time that I got to see them was the tour for 2112. I bought the album and was instantly hooked.
RUSH IS PURE JOY!!
So glad to see another RUSH sister being born!!
Been hooked on them since 1975!!
🤘🎶💜
Yeah... and when is it ever a good time to throw in a load of laundry!!!!
