Andy & Alex I see a few folks down below have recommended Red Barchetta. I greatly concur. Next time you dabble with Rush, Red Barchetta is a great story.
Far from it. I'm in my early 50s,been a massive fan since about 1981. What's interesting is that people I know of a similar age to, including former work colleagues, have only really got into Rush in recent years. There will never be another band like them, though I'd love to be proven wrong....
Oh, no... I came back to watch this again after Andy's "Top 5 Songs" list and I'm grinning and bouncing in my chair right along with them. I can see 60 coming and I've seen Rush many times starting in high school. So many young reactors discovering so much good work, across the arts... A big source of a lot of happy!
As a 50 year old woman, I don't think you guys can possibly understand how important radio was in the 80's. I literally woke up every morning to my favorite radio station as I did my hair. Calling into the radio station so they would play my favorite song, and have my cassette player ready to record the songs. the power of radio was very strong. For real. The power of radio really did make my morning move.
Ended up being a insider at the station this was written about ! CFNY a great station ! Rush was not on the playlist at that time many many years later ! The salesman part always makes me laugh ! One guy looked like a TV actor so we goofed on him a bit. He got me back real good one day !!
I’m not sure you can be underrated when you’re known as one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Rush is certainly the band that could conceivably achieve that, though.
I'd have to agree that they definitely aren't underrated. All three are master musicians in their own rights and myself being a drummer Neil Peart was my biggest influence. if anything I would say the younger generation knows the songs but might not be able to put a name with it. Joe Jay yeah, I went all punk and new wave in the 80’s and now a jazz freak but I’ll still go with Judas Priest , Rush and the like. Music is a miracle.
Dan Hollifield I believe it was the first Rush song I ever heard, not long after Permanent Waves was released in the early 80’s. Definitely in the list of top Rush songs.
No way man , The GREATEST OF ALL TIME !THE PROFESSOR !!!!!!!! No one was even close Neil was the leader, you know he played Lead Drums , Alex guitar, Geddy vocals bass and synthesizers I dont know of any other drummer that is the leader of their band.
@@tomparshall2450Phil Collins was a drummer leader. Eagles had a drummer leader. Moon and Bonham are equal to Peart, just different styles. Peart was precise timekeeping and innovative fills. Bonham actually played alot of jazz rhythm as heavy as he could. Moon, like Peart, played lead bass. Fills all over the place.
@@CoachEgg there ain't no freaking way that you can compare Phill Collins to Neil . However Peter Gabriel was the leader in Genesis before he went sole . Collins had no choice ,for Genesis to survive he became leader ,I believe a different situation than what Neil had . Bonhams was extreme but Everybody knows Jimmy Page was the real leader with a lot of competition from Robert Plant ! Any way you spin it we both mentioned some of the Greatest musicians of there time . There is a special place in my Heart for Rush ,I feel like I grew up with them and they grew up with me !!! REST IN PEACE NEIL PEART !!!!
@@tomparshall2450 I have tons of respect for Peart and Rush, and no one needs to defend their taste. When I mentioned Moon and Bonham I did to put them as equals to Peart. All great and all differently great. Moon with Rush would sound horrible. Peart with the Who would sound horrible. They were great.
"One likes to believe in the freedom of music. But glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity." Best line in musical history.
That has been one of my favorite lyrics from Rush. Just met Geddy at a book signing a little over a week ago. Only got to talk to him for about 30 seconds and had so much to say but all I could ask was to sign it: "To Jym & Family, Take off you hosers! Geddy Lee". Rates up there with me meeting Stan Lee :)
I'm a 51 year old Canadian teacher who grew up with Rush. The way you appreciate great music is awesome! You guys make me so happy for the new generation. Great job guys!

No band, ever. Rush is the single most underrated band in history. I'm a musician, and I've NEVER seen 3 guys who were all easily in the top 10 if not top 5 in the world at what they do. There is no better drummer than Neil, and the only writer that comes close is Roger Waters. Geddy playing bass + keys + vocals? That's off the charts insanely hard. As someone who plays guitar and sings, I don't know how he does it all. And Alex is easily a top 10 guitarist. His riffs are ALWAYS different... and yet you still know it's him when you hear it.
I've got just one tattoo in my body: "one likes to believe in the freedom of music". It's on my back. This song changed my life. Thanks to Neil, Geddy and Alex for writing it.
P/G cover work was my first tattoo five years ago. My second was my best friends name. My third i got the day they announced Neil's passing "The Professor" wrapped around the Grace Under Pressure tattoo. Peace
The fact that Alex knew who wrote the lyrics gives him gravity. Way to go, kid. But, the fact that Andy nearly threw his headphones into the air at the conclusion--man, you're my favorite musical pundit. This is what I want for my time. I've heard this music a hundred times, but you guys bring a whole other level of excitement. I wish you much success. I really need to get some swag from you guys--and I NEVER do that. I'm a scaly old rock musician with little patience for posers and pretenders. Rock on, my little brothers. And thanks for helping to keep the shit alive.
When I was younger than you, I had the same reactions as you. 35 years later, it's still a ten. Boys, watching your faces as they changed time signatures or dropped into the reggae beat was PRICELESS. These are three of the most talented musicians and songwriters in modern history.
Back for another listen myself. Clicked like on your comment. Then realized I'd already liked it last time I passed through. Here. Take a meaningless double like!
Thank you for the likes...I really dig these guys and their enthusiastic curiosity. They seem to genuinely respect artists and recordings from an age before digital everything took over the art...
I had a huge grin on my face watching this knowing when the next transition was coming! Loved your reaction. You're right. This song stands up over time. It's almost 40 years old and I love it just as much if not more today as I did when it first came out. Keep it up guys! Red Barchetta and A Farewell to Kings are gems too. Cheers from Canada.
Absolutely! I am 55 and I love to see young people going nuts hearing what we would listen to on commercial airwaves, something that wouldn't happen now. Looking forward to watch you react to Yes, Genesis and so on. Musicianship was at another level back then.
I’m 57 years old and today there are countless avenues of self-expression and creating content. We had FM radio and the albums we bought. That’s pretty much it. We are so emotionally connected to this music because that was all we had. This song took Rush from devoted cult following to superstars overnight. It was a huge freaking song for them. There are more impressive recordings like 2112 but this grew their fan base exponentially.
We would wait with a cassette in the boom box waiting for a new favorite song to come on so we would hit ‘record’. For like hours at a time. Getting paid $2.35 and hour and albums cost $9…we had to do it!
I’m in my fifties, and have listened to Rush since I was a kid. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard this song-hundreds of times, probably. But watching your reaction to it was almost like hearing it for the first time again. So, thanks for that.
I just put up a post about this. I've heard this song so many times and it never gets old... but watching these two react to it like that. Priceless! I've never seen him react to a song like this one. Pretty cool
Rush wrote this song, "The Spirit of Radio," for a Toronto, Ontario, Canada, radio station, called, CFNY 102.1, their tag line was "102.1, the Spirit of Radio." It was a great station, that played new wave, rock, progressive, and broke new bands. This song is about that station. I used to love it, listened all the time, 70's and 80's. No play lists, they were "free form." Never a "commercial, playing the hits only," Station! CFNY had the "integrity" to play the new and the good. "Subdivisions" is good too.
@@mikeclarke1961, I lived in Western New York(outside of Buffalo) and used to listen to CFNY, and Q107. CFNY was great until it was sold, and became more Top 40.
Guys, I heard this song for the first time when I was 14. I'm 55 now and still listen to this song on a regular basis, aside from listening to it with you reactors. :) It's one of the best driving songs ever, on a par with Rush's Red Barchetta in that regard.
I can’t believe how excited I get when you guys do. It’s the perfect drug. Reaction channels work really well when the reactors have heart and are open minded. You guys are both without a doubt.
@Martin Van Buren So nice of you so say man, really glad you and many others are enjoying the content, that’s what it’s all about, cheers to music reaction culture done right! 🔥🤟🏻
@@gotomymostpopularvideo3235 That was pretty punny :-). That being said I would also HIGHLY recommend " Red Barchetta" ( my favorite Rush song) and "Subdivisions". Both are freakin' awesome! Also, I don't know if you guys ever do full album reviews but if you do "Moving Pictures" would be the perfect one to review . CLASSIC album...
So True Chris... so sad.. to hear RUSH first time in college. Wasted High school years... neglected by parents..no influential friends... but still hope for you, young men.. time learn and catch up. My son heard RUSH in primary school.
Written for Toronto's CFNY 102.1 which at the time ran with the tagline "The Spirit Of Radio". Dave Marsden was it's visionary Program Director. The official video for this song is Rush's token of appreciation for the station's programming and its on air personalities.
RIP Neil Elwood Peart (1952 - 2020). The Spirit of Radio is arguably the most quintessential RUSH track. It is everything RUSH wrapped in a radio-friendly package. And it summarizes RUSH's genius: complexity and creativity that is so easy (and fun) to digest. But if I had to pick my favourite RUSH track, and one that I humbly believe summed up Neil's life philosophy (in a poetic and dramatic way), it would be Hemispheres (Cygnus X-1 Book Two). Lyrically and musically 100% RUSH: "The heart and mind united in a single perfect sphere." It's something I recommend you guys should experience and react to in memory of The Professor.
Neil Peart on The Spirit of Radio, “ The song itself, musically, is switching between radio stations, with a reggae section at the end, the second verse is new waves, I'm playing like a punk drummer there, and that was all intentional."

I know a whole album in this vein: The Spliff Radio Show. Sadly so unknown, especially in the English-speaking world. A german band (previously the backing band of Nina Hagen), but the whole album is, as the title says, like a show on the local (US) radio.
I have listened to this song hundreds of times for 40+ years, and have always loved the transitions, but it never occurred to me that it is emulating switching stations on the radio. Thanks for that. Fantastic stuff.
"When we're in our 40's this is still gonna be there." - News Flash. I first heard this when I was 13 years old. Now I'm 53 (yeah, it's 40 years old in 2020), and yeah, it's still there. Not going anywhere anytime soon (or not soon). To quote Gene Simmons when asked what kind of music Rush plays: "What kind of music do they play?? Man.. it's *Rush* ".
When Rush opened for Kiss, Kiss said "Man those guys really know how to play their instruments", and Rush said "Man those guys really know how to talk to girls".
Perhaps the cleanest, tightest, most upbeat, pretty much perfect rock song ever. Up for debate, but this one will always make the Top 5. RUSH just flat out rocks.
Thanks for the video RIP Neil Peart. Young kids now have no idea of how much radio was apart of our lives back in the 60's and 70's. Rush best Canadian rock band ever. Lyrically, the song is a lament on the change of FM radio from free-form to commercial formats during the late 1970s. The Toronto-based station CFNY-FM-which had not abandoned free-form programming-is cited as an inspiration for the song, It's brilliant the transitions, is like changing the radio dial.
The best line in the song to me is co-opted from Paul Simon's lyric in The Sound of Silence: "and the words of the prophets are written on the subway wall - tenement hall, and they echo with the sound of silence." Peart revised those lines into: "For the words of the *profits* are written on the studio wall- concert hall and they echo with the sound of salesmen."
This song is one of Rush's greatest. It showcases everything great about Rush; incredible musicianship, creative time changes, and profound lyrics. This song speaks to anyone who truly loves music and spent their childhood/teenage years glued to the radio waiting for the bliss of hearing your favorite artists. That was a religion to me and this song its gospel truth 💙
THIS is the absolute perfect reaction to this song - the song is so phenomenal, that literally after decades of listening to it and hundreds and hundreds of listens, it never gets old - it's infuckingcredible every single time. Well done, my brothers!
The song is written to mimic 'travelling the dial' on an old-time car radio, thus the drastically different styles. The lead is along the lines of the static you get between stations. And, yes, they are the high lords of transitions.
This song was really a victim of radio over-play for me over the years, but, just watching the joy on your faces experiencing this one brought back the feeling I had when it was a new song for me back in 1980. You made me go dig out 'Permanent Waves' and listen again after many years. :-)
Had the total privilege of seeing them live in '79 and '80 when this was out and they were in their prime. They nailed this, playing it live exactly like you heard it recorded. Being a musician makes me appreciate that talent that much more. I'm 65 and enjoy seeing you guys getting as giddy and goosey as we got back then. Enjoy your time travels!
"But glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity" - That is not your run-of-the-mill rock lyric...content OR composition.
Oddly enough, Neil was probably one of the most vocal critics of his own lyrics. He definitely did not consider himself to be a writer of the ages, but then again, epic titans of talent often seem to think like that. Neil did write a few hilarious ones though (but I will always admire his genius anyway).
I was 16 when I first heard this. It still gives me chills. This music was transformational for my generation. It established the bar musically for us.
"Limelight" should be your next Rush banger. (PS: When are you going to do "Close To The Edge" by Yes? Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush were such huge fans that they were chosen to induct Yes into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame.)
The two small breakdowns at the 5:00 minute mark are Neil's nod to Stewart Copeland (The Police) style of throwing Jazz and Ska beats in rock. Nice little downbeats, and a head nod to another great drummer.
Yes my friends, this is what real musicianship with real instruments sounds like. Not shallow computer generated, autotuned, mono toned garbage that the masses have been spoon fed for the past 20 years. Consummate professionals with real talent playing their instruments. Writing songs with intelligence rather than Producer controlled algorithm driven agendas to mass produce the same thing over and over just to make a buck.
I equally respect this song and the better/top quality electronic garbage you speak of, the machines have to be programmed by a human first so there's skill in that as well.
I still cue this reaction up when I feel like a jaded old man (I'm 53), and you guys bring the joy of music, and my favorite song from my favorite band.
I think this is the 4th time I've watch you do this one. Not sure if I already shared this with you two... Imagine being a 15 year old kid who's never been to a concert before and you're older neighbor at about 5 in the evening asks if you'd like to go with a bunch of other guys to a general admission concert to see a band called Rush and you've never heard of them before. Of course I begged my mother to go, I was allowed to go and the rest is history they became my favorite band instantly. It was the Permanent Waves tour with Spirit of Radio just blowing me away. How could three people put out that much quality sound it was just amazing to me. Stage presence for each was amazing.
You guys are hilarious! I was a teen when this song came out. It's one of my all-time favorite RUSH songs ever. Hearing you say "When we're in our 40's..." I legit laughed. Like I said it came out in my teens, I'm in my 50's and have the same reaction to the song now as I did then, and Neil Peart is the reason I picked up sticks..... Seeing you as college students talking how you'll play it for your kids... I got my son into RUSH as a kid. He's now 20, and he happens to play drums now too.... THIS song and in fact MOST RUSH songs are timeless....
This song was 1980, I believe. I saw Rush in May 1980 when they were on tour having just released the album. This was the encore since it was their only hit to that point.
@@lemmann6362 yeah that's why they had a hard time selling this song to record labels. Unfortunately this song was out of tune with the 1980's era. Personally, I think this is one of the best songs ever composed.
I’m going to be 50 years old. I have been listening to Rush since I’m 9 years old, I was beginning to develop my musical tastes already with the help of my older brothers who had been fans since 2112 came out. I’ve seen Rush 61 fucking times live, they are my Kings. Watching you guys react to this, listening to it for the first time, brought me back to being a young kid hearing it for the first time, being blown away by the awesomeness, literally stunned and excited. Rush has been, is and always will be a band that you’ll never tire of listening to, that will lift your mood and make you groove and bring happiness to your life. They have for me, with you guys , I’ve just listened to The Spirit of Radio for the first time again 39 years later. Rush on kiddos, it’s a hell of a ride.
Agreed, they are amazing, brings back HS memories. I am probably your brothers age. You're still rockin' at 50! RIP Neil glad they got inducted to RRHOF
A couple of years older, but feel you Tina , seen them a few times as a Brit in England , in China last 15 years last 4 months on lockdown created home office, so my colleagues might not know much business english, but when KTV back on the weekly agenda, I think out with the hey Jude and hotel California, in with Rush r👍
My though exactly, I was 14 years old when this song came out and I heard it on radio for the first time. My 40’s was 10 plus years ago and here I am still rockin out to it. 😁😎
One of my favorite songs by Rush, but it was an absolute must to hear in concert so in 1991 I waited all concert to hear this song and it was the encore and they played it for a good 10/15 minutes…. I could’ve died right there and gone to heaven.
I came back to watch this reaction again tonight because I'm pretty bummed out about the passing of Rush drummer Neil Peart that we learned about today. Neil Peart is perhaps the greatest drummer that ever lived. Rest In Peace, Neil.
He's definitely among the best. One guy who never seems to get mentioned is Ian Paice, drummer of Deep Purple. Probably the best technical rock drummer of them all. He's like the Buddy Rich of rock.
@Elijah McAbee I'm always torn between Danny Carey and Neil Peart as my favorite drummer. Bill Bruford should definitely be mentioned in these conversations too, he was increadible and very influential. He doesn't get enough credit.
@@davehebert3403 Rush did get loud, but not to the point of the music being fuzzy. The sound was always pretty good at Rush shows, even in the early 80's. I'm glad you got to see them. That tour in particular was terrific.
@@Catonian1 Man, I rocked my ass off, and then some. My Father taught percussion and jazz at the local university, so I absolutely had to see Neil play. That, and I'm also a trained percussionist as well. They played at the local university's sports arena, and being a student at the time, I got a student discount. I paid $12.00 to see them, and that's the best 12 bucks I ever spent in my life.
Whenever I see a meme of an over-the-top audio system, asking what song would you play first? It’s this song, all day long! I remember it when it was new !!!
Being 53 now and have always loved Rush it warms my heart to see younger generations hear the masters at work. Three men making some incredible music...legends.
One of my favorite songs of ALL TIME!!! Thank you! That entire album is incredible...Jacob's Ladder, Freewill, Entre Nous & Natural Science are just as good!
This is the third time I've checked out this reaction in the past year. Guys, I think it's my favourite of your reactions ... and I've watched a good many of them. Simply put, the joy you experience hearing this for the first time is infectious. It always gives me a lift.
That’s exactly what it is. The Jamaican breakdown is symbolic of changing the stations on the radio (not to mention the smoke influence)and getting that first good song of the day that sticks with you. It’s NEILS tribute to good radio and the trappings of success in it. Poetry, loud poetry.
The lyrics "The words of the profits are written on the studio wall, and concert halls, and echoed with the sound of salesman" was taken from Simon & Garfunkel's song 'The Sound of Silence'. "The words of the prophets were written on the subway walls, and tenement halls, and whispered with the sound of silence". Reworded to reflect the music industry. Great job guys definitely Rush at their best.
Willusic Lover, yes, Rush meant it to say something about how radio had become such a "for profit business." Not about music itself but the commerciality of it. One could say the same for the music business as well. The radio stations were forced to follow "play lists." If it wasn't on the play list, song didn't go out over the air waves. Radio stations were paid to give some songs, "air play." No matter what a D.J., or station manager might have wanted to play. In CFNY'S early years, they didn't have a "play list," they were "free form" radio. It's a shame that changed. There are some videos on RUclips about the original CFNY Toronto station, and Mr. Dave Marsden talking about its "free form" nature. He worked there
I've watched this reaction 5 times and wondered why. I know now. When this came out, I had the same reaction you guys did. Knowing that you enjoy it as I have, and that your generation enjoys the music of previous ones, feels like a kind of validation. We of a certain age tell younger people that music now sucks and ours was better. You guys are proof that our music kicks ass.
The song is about a radio station in Brampton Ontario Canada. The station was/is CFNY 102.1 Their brand was "The Spirit of Radio". The station was very eclectic and would play music from the Talking Heads to Frank Sinatra to The Clash, The Stranglers etc. Anything at the time but not Bon Jovi or White Snake or Def Leopard et al. This radio station was the first "alternative" radio station perhaps in the world and this what this song is about: Geddy, Alex and Neil listened to this station (because RUSH is from Toronto) and were inspired to write this great tune to honour this radio station. Sadly it has been for years bought out and has conformed to whatever corporation that owns the rights. Now they are a piffle of the once great CFNY 102.1 "The Spirit of Radio".
Here in Brazil, particulary in South, we love Rush since the 80's . I ' ll never forget how many good times i lived listened this three genius. Good to see young people discovering this marvelous band.
They say Rush is your favorite band’s favorite band. Criminally underrated for so long. They are a big reason why many consider the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame a joke because it took so long for them to be inducted. They should’ve been one of the first 20 acts in, maybe even 10.
You have no idea but what you said about hearing this music in your 40's and beyond is so true. I heard it when it was released originally and it is just as precious to me today. I'm 58 as I write this. Your take on this (and other songs) is exactly what I felt the first time I heard it. I teared up listening to the excitement in your voices. This music is timeless. I'm SO happy that I was able to see Rush live a few times and I'm so happy that you guys get the "sauce" from this badass band. Serious.
Sometimes I get a little bummed out that I'm in my mid-fifties, but thanks to you guys I realized that the music I grew up with, music from the late 60s through the 70s and 80s, was truly the greatest music of all time! Every time I watch you guys enjoy a song that I love I get a sense of overwhelming gratitude. Keep up the wonderful work A&A!

Neil Peart is such a good poet

There is NO BAND today who can hold a candle to Rush.
Be glad that you were alive when Geddy, Alex, and Neil were.

They were amazing live. Rocked my head for 3 hours straight. Still the greatest show I have ever seen.

Neil wasn't called The Professor for nothing.
This was the song that got me listening to Rush….. and I never looked back.

Awesome thanks for sharing!

@ The official video shows an FM radio dial on Alex Lifson's guitar neck.
Well fuck me to tears, the song just hit a new level for me, I didn’t thing that was possible 🤷🏼♂️
Great quote.
Nice! Exactly!
From a 53 old mexican Rush fan, this was totally enjoyable. Go for Red Barchetta.
The best line in the song to me is co-opted from Paul Simon's lyric in The Sound of Silence: "and the words of the prophets are written on the subway wall - tenement hall, and they echo with the sound of silence."
Peart revised those lines into:
"For the words of the *profits* are written on the studio wall- concert hall and they echo with the sound of salesmen."
Jim Geiger Music I was looking for this! Brilliant writing, as always, from Peart.

This and Limelight feel like two movements of the same song.
THIS is the absolute perfect reaction to this song - the song is so phenomenal, that literally after decades of listening to it and hundreds and hundreds of listens, it never gets old - it's infuckingcredible every single time. Well done, my brothers!
I have been to 39 rush shows. Nothing like a rush show.
The song is written to mimic 'travelling the dial' on an old-time car radio, thus the drastically different styles. The lead is along the lines of the static you get between stations. And, yes, they are the high lords of transitions.
Yes! On paper, transitioning from skull-crushing power chords to a light reggae section would sound silly, yet they bring it off wonderfully.
This song was really a victim of radio over-play for me over the years, but, just watching the joy on your faces experiencing this one brought back the feeling I had when it was a new song for me back in 1980. You made me go dig out 'Permanent Waves' and listen again after many years. :-)

the fact that Geddy Lee can play that baseline while singing still blows my mind.
Oh, but wait... There's more! He also plays Taurus pedals (think an organ keyboard on the floor) while he sings and plays masterclass bass.
Brian Nunes he’s not playing a ton of bass during his vocal parts. Force Ten is a better example.

Limelight is a fantastic choice for the next Rush track, but it's hard to make a bad choice with this band.
The two small breakdowns at the 5:00 minute mark are Neil's nod to Stewart Copeland (The Police) style of throwing Jazz and Ska beats in rock. Nice little downbeats, and a head nod to another great drummer.
I remember when this first played on the radio and my reaction was similar. I'm 60 and from the same area of Toronto as Rush.

@@Catonian1 Oh, I forgot to add that their sound was not distorted at all -- just LOUD! :D
Whenever I see a meme of an over-the-top audio system, asking what song would you play first? It’s this song, all day long! I remember it when it was new !!!
You know it’s rocking when the camera shakes at 3:34!! Keep em comin’!!!!
@AP 74
Haha helllll yeah man that’s how we do it 🔥🔥🤟🏻
Glad you saw that too. I thought maybe my edibles was kicking in.
@Mark Hazelbaker
Glad you enjoyed the video friend! Cheers!! 🔥🔥
Jacob's ladder from Exit Stage Left will blow you away!!! I gaurantee it!!!
This is the third time I've checked out this reaction in the past year. Guys, I think it's my favourite of your reactions ... and I've watched a good many of them. Simply put, the joy you experience hearing this for the first time is infectious. It always gives me a lift.
I've always interpreted Alex's opening riff as the simulation of turning the knob to tune in a radio station.
Alan I never thought of that but now it totally sounds like that
@@kevinhepp6604 For me it's the electronic signals going through the air carrying the music to the world.
That’s exactly what it is. The Jamaican breakdown is symbolic of changing the stations on the radio (not to mention the smoke influence)and getting that first good song of the day that sticks with you. It’s NEILS tribute to good radio and the trappings of success in it. Poetry, loud poetry.
Thats what the little break at 4:48 is meant to simulate.
The opening riff was actually a warm-up exercise guitar players use, dust in the wind is another one that comes to mind.
LOL. You guys are exactly the same type of die-hard fan that Rush had back in the day. Welcome to the club.
Drive across the country, US or Canada, and radio is piffle everywhere. No such thing as a good commercial radio station anymore.
Thanks for the reminder. I grew up in Toronto but had completely forgotten about CFNY until reading your comment. Great station...ahead of the curve.
Grew up in Buffalo New York and used to pick up CFNY on my radio. Yeah, it was awesome station, but I guess it took it for granted.
Here in Brazil, particulary in South, we love Rush since the 80's . I ' ll never forget how many good times i lived listened this three genius. Good to see young people discovering this marvelous band.
That’s right boys.... They don’t make music like this anymore.
Enjoy my Generation... !
They say Rush is your favorite band’s favorite band. Criminally underrated for so long. They are a big reason why many consider the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame a joke because it took so long for them to be inducted. They should’ve been one of the first 20 acts in, maybe even 10.
Rush: When two intro's to your song just isn't enough
You have no idea but what you said about hearing this music in your 40's and beyond is so true. I heard it when it was released originally and it is just as precious to me today. I'm 58 as I write this. Your take on this (and other songs) is exactly what I felt the first time I heard it. I teared up listening to the excitement in your voices. This music is timeless. I'm SO happy that I was able to see Rush live a few times and I'm so happy that you guys get the "sauce" from this badass band. Serious.
I've been waiting for this reaction. Thank you guys such a great reaction
@ap8
Glad you enjoyed it! 🔥
I didn’t know I was waiting for this reaction either
Sometimes I get a little bummed out that I'm in my mid-fifties, but thanks to you guys I realized that the music I grew up with, music from the late 60s through the 70s and 80s, was truly the greatest music of all time! Every time I watch you guys enjoy a song that I love I get a sense of overwhelming gratitude. Keep up the wonderful work A&A!
