Hello Neighbor! If we're talking covers of Rush. I just heard a great one. The Royal Philharmonic plays the Overture to 2112. I think they do a fantastic job. The worlds smallest ochestra being played by one of the greatest classical orchestras.
This was the first tribute I heard after Neil's passing. Must've played it 5 times consecutively after I first heard it. As Rush is my favorite band hands down and I absolutely love AIC.. this really got me good
Alice in Chains has been a favorite band of mine since their beginning, but I have never heard their cover of Tears, or if I did, I wasn't sober to remember. I rarely drink or smoke THC anymore, but back in the 90's I was a heavy partier. I had a very busy social life, I went to a LOT of parties, not some addict under a rock, every day, but still a bit too much. I was either in college or gainfully employed at the time. Only partaking under social circumstances. But that could be several times a week. Anyway, I'm going to have to look into this...I have several of their albums, if it came from one of them, I'd be surprised. Though them along with many of my life long favorite bands have been mostly abandoned by me since re-discovering Rush and Triumph and diving in their respective rabbit holes. Both bands are on another level from all my old favorites, I'm addicted and it is very hard for me to listen to my old favorites. I usually, on rare occasion that I listen to any other bands these days, end up just imagining how much better their songs would sound, if it were Rush or Triumph performing the songs instead. Even Triumph only gets played 10% of the time, taking short breaks from Rush. I agree that Alice in Chain's cover is very good, as is Rush's original, though with 178 songs in Rush's discography, Tears is way down the list for me. Only listened to when I sit and listen to the whole 2112 album in a sitting. Only avoiding getting skipped because it's still Rush, and being a vinyl audio-head would require me to get up and move the needle, also always another opportunity to accidentally scratch the fragile record. I think I would like Rush's version if they had done it more like Alice in Chain's cover of it, but I'd still rather listen to Rush's version because it's Rush.
Alice In Chains Tears was one song on this album also 5 other artists doing a tribute song on the 40th Anniversary of 2112 album. There are a few other tribute albums Mike Portnoy's Workingman album was various songs....then in later years a 2 cd called An All Star Tribute To Rush ....which has more songs with a few of the same ones from Mikes album on it also.
Huge Alice in Chains Fan...great follow up to Rush Tears. This works because Alice in Chains is extremely talented and they didn't butcher the song....just played it as it was originally intended to be. Would love to hear you review more AIC. They have a ton of great official videos but they definitely are a much darker band... pretty much the opposite of Rush. Suggest official videos just for Starters: Rooster Would? No Excuses I Stay Away Nutshell Heaven Beside You Sea of Sorrow
Red Head! Great tribute to Rush and a great song! Hey, you should really check out all the tribute songs from this special disc! When Rush did a 40th Anniversary to the 2112 album, they had a disc included that was all bands doing covers of the songs from that album. It is really good! You should definitely hear the Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nick R tribute to the 2112 Overture! It totally ROCKS! All the covers of those side 2 songs are really good. Please check it out!
Not the original Alice in Chains in 2016 ('Tears' was recorded for the 40th anniversary tribute of Rush's iconic '2112' album) - the lead vocalist is William DuVall, who joined AIC in 2006 to sing late singer Layne Staley's parts... Bassist Mike Inez joined AIC in 1993 after original bassist Mike Starr was fired for he+++n addiction (Mike Starr passed away in 2011) However, AIC's founder & primary songwriter Jerry Cantrell (vocals & guitar) is still leading the band w/ original drummer Sean Kinney.
As far as covers go it's good. Yes, it had the trademark A.I.C. vocal harmonies, and I liked the reimagined, harmonized guitar solo Jerry put down. Had I not heard the original version first. I would absolutely love this version. But there is something far more intimate in the sparseness of the original that this one lacks. This is from someone whose appreciation for both bands grew congruently as I discovered them at roughly the same time.
This song was with Alice in Chain's new singer. it was a bonus track on the 40th Anniversary Edition of 2112. Also the grime you're hearing is called Grunge, AIC are a dark & gloomy band especially in the 90's. You should check out their MTV Unplugged it's a real vibe..
What a great cover. Coming at this fresh as I hadn't heard the original until a few minutes ago. It's 'fuller'. I think I actually prefer this version. Alice in Chains were a band who kind of passed me by.
Almost! When the vocals started in the intro I thought " This is going to be awesome"!! When the chorus dropped it brought it down to an OK+. I would have preferred the intimacy but mid song went to the Alice In Chains formula book. Kinda like the Seattle Seahawks and their playbook!! 😮 As long as our favorite neighbor is happy,,, all I right in the world 🌎 Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
PART II 😁 You know,,, you should do original/ cover episodes!! Like; LOVE HURTS,,,, Everly Brothers/ Nazareth. DIAMONDS AND RUST,,,, Joan Baez/ Judas Priest. WHEN THE LEVEE BREAKS,,,, Memphis Minnie/ Led Zeppelin. etc. There is TONS!! ☯️☮️
@@TDKOUTDOORS Of course not and, my view as expressed is not a criticism of Red, or her channel, both are fabulous, you're entitled to your view but it's out of context.
It’s good…not great. As you stated the emotion and honesty that only Rush can deliver. The AIC version sounds “like” a cover. Rush’s version touches you emotionally.
The best cover of a Rush song in my opinion, thanks for reacting ☮️
Wow , i didn't see that coming, what a beautiful version

That is a beautiful tribute to Rush’s song! Very well done I loved it❤

Saw these guys in Atlanta at Lalapalooza in the early 90’s! Of course I was privileged to see Rush 14 times over the years!
14 for me too!!

Not too many bands can do a Rush song justice but AIC nailed it. 😊
Surprisingly good cover of Rush.

I hadn't heard this before. I like it and it definitely has the AIC sound to it. Personally, I will still take a Mellotron over anything else any day.
Although I am a huge RUSH fan, this is not a bad cover - and this song is really a sad one......
Not as painfully beautiful as the original, but it’s reeeeeally hard to beat an AIC harmony… sooo good.
They are known as a GRUNGE band!
Almost! When the vocals started in the intro I thought " This is going to be awesome"!! When the chorus dropped it brought it down to an OK+. No such thing as bad Rush. If it’s earnestly and honestly done, it’s good. Maybe not perfect but Rush like in spirit-honest.✌️🖖🤘🥁🎸🎹🎤
I have heard many rush covers that I am not a fan of, I am a fan of this. AIC is an awesome band.
Play that vocal harmony part at 78, and you'll hear the Chipmonks
I wonder how many bands have recorded Rush covers, I can't think of another one at the moment.
The only 1 I'm aware of put to recording was Skid Row's version of "What Your Doin".
PART II 😁 You know,,, you should do original/ cover episodes!! Like;

I think you would get a ton of new viewers if you started doing some Alice in Chains
Recorded in 2016
It's Rush, sorry covers just don't cut it.
It's not your channel.
@@TDKOUTDOORS Of course not and, my view as expressed is not a criticism of Red, or her channel, both are fabulous, you're entitled to your view but it's out of context.
@charlesm7065 ya, I know the context. "Sorry covers.."
This is ok, just seems overly busy after hearing the original for almost 50 years, Yes I am old, lol, was 16 when 2112 came out.

Rush’s version touches you emotionally.
Not a bad cover, but for me it looses some of the raw emotion. JMHO
