    What is one area you believe streaming needs to improve upon to continue to offer savings to cord-cutters?

    One headache w/cable is if your company requires a tech to visit your home for activation/servicing. That involves having to schedule appts. & possibly waiting thru a several hour arrival window. That kind of inconvenience is not a factor w/the streamers.

    • @FrugalRules

      1000% agreed. Most streaming platforms don't have perfect customer service, but not having to wait around for hours is quite nice.

      The Cost Of Streaming Is 75$ 80$ A Month
      Waiting For A Tech For 20$ More & Getting Much More Channels & Service Over Streaming Is Worth It Because You Need Internet Service To Stream Which The Internet Requires A Tech To Hook It Up So Cable For 20$ More Than Streaming Is Nothing Streaming Is Ripping People Off @ This Point

    I would say what you term 'pesky' equipment costs is really much more than that. I had three HD cable boxes @ 10 bucks a month each to service each of my three tv's. That's $30 a month- hardly pesky. That's substantial savings right there by dropping cable. And cable absolutely loves to up those box charges, if nothing else. If you're like me, the cable tv side of the bill was $240 alone. In total I was up to $320 a month for only tv and internet- base speed internet @ 100 mps. That's the reality of Long Island NY and optimum cable with a silver tv package. I'm saving about $120 a month streaming and I love bouncing around and canceling services when needed. The constant is hulu+live. That has to stay but event still, I have more content and flexibility streaming than I ever had with cable. I'm glad I showed cable the door and hopefully will remain so for a long time. Better late than never. Happy streamer here.

    • @FrugalRules
      @FrugalRules  6 месяцев назад +4

      That's a fair point. We only termed it that way since equipment fees can vary. That said, we have family members paying $15/mo on multiple devices and it adds up real quick! That ability to bounce around and get what you want is a game changer, if you do it wisely.

      @dfizzbom Can I PAUSE LIVE TV on Hulu+Live TV w/o having to hit RECORD before every show?
      No one will answer this question? I am trying to cut the cord, but cannot get all my questions answered.

    • @dfizzbom
      @dfizzbom 6 месяцев назад +1

      yes you can pause live tv and it will pick back up right where you paused it. You can then fast forward up to where the live feed is depending on how long you were paused as well. You can reverse back to the point where you actually stared watching the program. This is what can be done with hulu live tv.

    Not for me,save 😊$60 month and once hockey season ends it’ll be cheaper. I was always afraid to cancel cable and now that I don’t have it don’t miss it. Antenna and a few streaming services and I’m good

    • @FrugalRules
      @FrugalRules  6 месяцев назад +6

      That's exactly the way to do it, if you can live without live TV. If you only have a couple of on-demand services you're still going to get a good bit of content. Add an OTA to it and you're golden.

  • @dathyr1

    Great video. You have covered everything that I am also seeing. I only have Amazon Prime video because of my ordering items from Amazon. I dropped Netflix and MAX because I was not watching much on them anymore. I spend more time on Regular You Tube content and find allot of entertaining topics. Lastly, I have free OTA antenna for local news and weather, etc. which I have mentioned to you before.
    Seems like all these services, Streaming or Cable, want to "nickel dime" us to death and it will keep getting worse, not better. Also if Cable offers lower pricings to attract new viewers, after that contract ends, you go right back up to very high prices - they are not dumb in their sales pitches. They don't fool me one least bit anymore.
    Thanks and take care.

    • @FrugalRules

      You hit the nail on the head! Only go with what you know you're going to watch and keep it as streamlined as possible. Also, it's easy for people to forget when they, rightfully so, complain about streaming services hiking their rates. Cable/satellite companies are worse, in most cases.

    I'm streaming at a lot less with RUclips tv than I was spending on cable, so I'm not changing anytime soon.
    I'm paying $41.56 for unlimited 200 down from X-finity, and even if I bundled it with cable, I would be paying about 40% more than streaming.
    And NO CONTRACTS.

    • @FrugalRules
      @FrugalRules  6 месяцев назад +2

      That no contract piece is a significant part of the equation. Yes, prices are going to continue to go up - especially for live TV. However, that is across the board. In cases like yours, streaming is still cheaper. And, if you knock out live TV you can save even more.

    I dropped Dish network satellite service, and I’m saving quite a bit streaming. But, no matter how much is available streaming, streaming is nowhere as easy to use as cable/satellite (recording, finding what you want to watch and so on). But I’m pretty sure I’ll stay with streaming until streaming becomes just the same as cable/satellite (which I’m afraid probably will happen.

    I pay $55 for internet and steam a small package specturm has or my internet goes back up to $90 a month. I have Tablo and antenna so get my local channels and additional channels thew Tablo. So the steaming we do I keep around $20. We don't mind commercials so the cheaper plans are fine with us and don't need live steaming sevices packages. I will reduce channels and add channels as we want and around Thanksgiving they have specials and a few sevcies we get for a year that use often. When got quotes for cable it would been additional $300.00 just get into a package to get local channels plus additional cost internet of $90.

    I've been reading that many people left cable because they hate ads. Streaming companies are now adding ads. Most streaming services haven't been profitable. How else can they become profitable without ads?

    Hi John with streaming prices being completely unreasonable do you feel piracy streaming will make a return with a vengeance? However, if it occurs this time around may be nearly impossible to curb. Because in the past it used to be just certain groups of people who just didn't want to pay. Now it could become almost half of Americans. Given how unaffordable streaming and cable is to obtain legally.

    • @FrugalRules
      @FrugalRules  6 месяцев назад

      Great question. We think piracy will always be around, and may see some increases thanks to pricing. As content creators, we're not fans of it but, like you said, there is a group of people that will always try and do it. The one caveat we'd add is the FCC seems to be putting increasing focus on cracking down on piracy. That'll require, to a certain extent, more creativity to circumvent the system. We don't doubt one bit they can find ways around crackdowns.

      @@FrugalRules Hi John piracy has even got more innovative piracy is not just the obvious Kodi boxes anymore they are using legitimate services like Disney+ Max etc. via services like Shoppy or Shopify which are mostly pirated account's and other underhanded ways they offer it to "customers" for far cheaper prices then the retail price

    Question you said you needed high speed Internet for work at home . Doesn't that say you need it if you didn't stream your tv . ? ? So adding it to the cost of streaming isn't two separate bills I don't count Internet cost as part of my streaming budget .

      That's why we said it should only be included to a certain extent. 🙂 Everyone has a different situation, so it's not always easy to say yes you should include it or no you shouldn't. We get it, subscription fatigue is a thing. However, based on our math you're still saving some money. A few thoughts though - why are you paying for Hulu if you have the Disney bundle? You could cancel Hulu to get back some savings. Second, since you already have the Disney bundle you're getting ESPN+ which has a lot of NHL games. You could pair that with Max and get the NHL games airing on Turner networks. That could allow you to cancel Fubo to really knock down your cost, especially since the NFL season is over. Just a few thoughts. 🙂

      What internet plan do you have? $100+ is pretty pricey. I'm paying $40.99/month for uncapped 300/40 internet. Of course I always negotiate my deal every year. Add Philo for $25/month and an Airtv dvr for OTA and I'm getting a great deal. Most NFL games are on OTA and you can get plenty of NHL with ESPN+.
