    Just because a female character is badass doesn’t mean she’s a feminist.

    • @NiVi192
      @NiVi192 4 года назад +58

      Very true, being a kickass alone makes you a tough girl who is able to take care of herself, but feminism is also about supporting our sex, just like being a manhater or hating on women who show confidence in their femininity is not at all a fight for equality! I think, a central facet of feminism is about defending equality, e.g. defending those who are unable to defend themselves (women and also men)! So, as healthy and inspirational as Brooke's character development on one Tree Hill turns out, I wouldn't call her the epitome of a feminist.

    This is how women should be portrayed in media (TV, movies, novels, comics and manga). Down with the sweet, innocent, naive, clumsy, talentless, defenseless airheads who need to be total damsels in distress to be attractive. Go for women who are strong, independent, fierce and beautiful (not just physically)!

    It is just me or most of these characters are stereotyped???
    Like wether you're a lesbian or are a rebel against society standars and sterotypes (oh the irony) or you are single and you need no man to be happy or you just kick male asses to be a feminist role model.
    I think that you can be as much of a woman not having a husband nor raising children as much as being a feminist and wanting to have a family and still be a working woman. You get to believe in love and princes and still be a feminist.
    Suppossedly, being a feminist means that you believe that both men and women should have the same right to be free and to pursuit anything in life that makes you happy and not only that, it means same opportunities for both.
    To be a feminist you don't need to hate men or behave like a man. Why do Hollywood sterotypes of strong women have to be with the same characteristics we see in a man????
    Why a feminist has to be someone who doesn't date and "defies" beauty and fashion standars?????

    Witches actually embody the complete opposite of feminism. It was a literal demonization of women who didn't conform to the social norm of the time. Similarly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer may have some feminist traits/actions, but the she is what Susan J. Douglas called "enlightened sexism." She's physically violent and badass, BUT in order to be so she has to be extremely feminine to make up for this "masculine" trait. Hence the consistent boy-talk and gossip. If she were truly feminist she would be able to be physically badass and talk about boys/gossip, but ALSO talk about things that don't involve men. After all, Women don't talk about boys non-stop.
