ONE OF THE HARDEST HIKES I'VE DONE! (Mt. Kinabalu via Ferrata, Sabah, Malaysia)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 16 мар 2018
- We decided to do Mt. Kinabalu via Ferrata just after Christmas, and boy it was definitely a hike to remember! To reach Low’s Peak only takes 2 days and 1 night, but it is a lot harder than people think it really is. The trek up to the summit is approximately 9km, with a total ascent of 2,220m. It’s a long uphill struggle the whole way!
When you reach the top, you are fatigued, and there is no mercy on your legs as you have to endure the same distance and steepness but this time, going down.
You want the perfect leg day workout? Come to Mt. Kinabalu.
The adventure is definitely worth it. Mt. Kinabalu is one of every hiker’s bucket list. It has beautiful vegetation, holding approximately 6,000 species of plants, 326 species of birds and more than a hundred mammalian species. Mount Kinabalu is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the 20th most prominent mountain in the world by topographic prominence.

Mt kinabalu is not about how fast u can get to the top..its about taking your own sweet time and enjoy the breathtaking scenery...before the age of digital camera...I finished 5 rolls of camera film just taking shots of the scenery...
yes.. agree with you😄
Completely agree with you! All the trees and bushes look so nice. So many different plant species.
Disagree. Last time i took my ‘sweat’ time reach sayat2 after 5am i was not allowed to proceed to Lows peak

Some local hikers has made up to the Victoria Peak of Mount Kinabalu, the peak with a small horn (just nearby the Lows Peak, 4.095km). One of the hiker has realized that they were actually already over 4.1km on the peak saddle, not event reach the vertical spire.
That is interesting! Have you been to Mt Kinabalu?
@@TheTravellingFoxes only at Kinabalu park, maybe next time I will climb it. The story above I read few years back from an article told by a local Kinabalu hiking team, here is the link www.dailyexpress.com.my/news.cfm?NewsID=90672
as a sabahan people im feeling so proud and thanks to you guys for vlogging your advanture climbing mount.kinabalu,i hope more and more tourist will come and try to climb...and congratulation y'all reach the peak.... ( and i dont know what happen to me but i already 7times climb this mountain😅😅 )
me and my friends (5 guys) just did it yesterday. we're so proud for our achievement !
Congratulations for reaching the summit! How are your legs feeling today?
@@TheTravellingFoxes both knee and calves are aching but we're very happy! Of course we chill out at some bar too :-) Hahaha!
Glenn Chua. Hian Beng congratulations! How was your climb from Laban Rata to the summit especially it’s at midnight..Did you get AMS? I heard that from Laban to Summit is very tough. Thanks :-)
@@butterfliesONrainbows No We didn't. I was having flu and that make it hard for me especially closer toward the top and the tempurature drop. We Take it slow and easy as this is our first time climbing, but overall we're very proud and happy!
@@glennchua.hianbeng2440 kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
I have Greta memories of this mountain. Climbed in 2008 with my wife and I two kids (12 & 14). My son has mountain goat DNA! Well worth the sunrise experience. Top tips: have some warm clothing for the top; use a walking pole for the journey down; we donated our sleeping bags ( purpose bought first use at UK supermarket) to our guide ( well received); have a large black Sabah cup of tea with plenty of sugar; have a good head torch; save video space for the top; make sure you capture the shadow as well as the sun....... shadow over Sabah.
Enjoy and have a recuperative stay at a good hotel - we stayed at Tanjang Aru. Accept you won’t be able to walk properly for 72 hrs afterwards. “ the Kinabalu shuffle” .... Ben
Thanks for climb our mountain, it really inspired me to climb our own mountain after watching this video, i will climb it in future, thanks again!
During our training for the climbathon , it is an everyday hike for us for 30days . Just with short pants, longsleeve shirt , 500ml water . What a nice experience .btw congratulations on conquering Mt.Kinabalu.
Thank you! Wow that is a lot of hard training and good job for doing that for 30 days! Once is enough for me hehe :)
"it's a lot harder than everest" ,i dont know why i am melt
Hahaha! It was a silly joke :)
You are so lucky to have a nice wheater!! That's my friend and fellow guide anas!
It was raining on the way up, but I guess we were lucky that the weather was good at the top! It was end of December when we visited.
This vlog is so underrated. Love it!
Thank you Danial! It was something I definitely had to create content for as I don't plan on hiking back up to this summit! :)
Thank you for exploring Sabah especially Mount Kinabalu..I'm glad you all very enjoy it the scenery.Good Job ❤
Amazing scenery, one of a kind compared to other mountains I have been to. Hope this video inspires other hikers to visit Mt Kinabalu. :)

I'm sabahan.. And also fail to make it to the top.. Good job guys... Lovely vlog... Subscribed..
Thank you so much for subscribing to our channel :) and hopefully you can make it to the top the second time around... :)
I climbed KK in august 2006. We stayed at the base camp over the night and next morning we set off to the top and returned back to Kinabalu city. That was really fast and furious with long walk. I did enjoyed a lot
I got sick before i climb the mountain, but i already paid it so no running away from it. When i reach the resting place, i actually vomit because of the dizziness i got from getting sick. But i still managed to climb until the top. When we descend the mountain, i was in the 3rd place lol. The first goes to the france guy, pretty chill guy, he got the first on climbing the mountain too, only took him 1 hour or less to reach the top from the resting place. I'm almost dead last cuz i was sick but its still got that beautiful view so i was satisfied.
Wow good job for still pushing through even if you were sick. You must be a very strong hiker!
Hi guys I’m from Sabah! So glad you guys made it to the top !
Thank you so much! :)
Thank u for coming here,Sabah. Please come again😊
Thank you for the nice welcome to Sabah. This is my second time there because it is near from Manila and definitely not the last.
Mt. Kinabalu is the easiest en" simplest destination for novice!
. . . a good mountaineering is when you trail to experience all difficulties from start to finish and when you come
to think between life en' death!
Hahaha! I believe you. I think my hikes are more beginner friendly lol. Thank you for watching!
Loving the reviewed so much 🌹 Thanks for the great adventure 🕊️ I'll probably gonna climb this next year. Can't wait to explore the Mount 😍
Watching other people hike up Kinabalu already makes me feel tired. However I had climbed to Lows Peak twice in my younger days, in the 70s when I was working in Sabah.
Nice! Was there stairs already in the 70s?
@@TheTravellingFoxes It was not like what we can see today. There are some steep stretches where ladder like structures were laid out on the ground. A short stretch from Panar Laban to the summit, shere climbers has to walk along a thin ledge leaning to the near vertical wall at 3.00 am ( and during the day its hard to believe how we could walk the stretch in the darkness of the night)
Wow that's exactly what I climbed over 30 years ago too. I am scared of heights, I practically crawled down the tiny space between the steep surface of the rock and the drop. No hiking safety gears at our time, just hang on to the worn out rope on certain parts. Some parts, it's just grabbing rocks as you go. Best experience ever.
Me and my friends just completed our Mt. Kinabalu climbing! Great adventure but I can’t handle the coldness! So cold 😭
I agree! I tried my best to still take a shower, they said it was heated, and it wasn't! So that was a freezing experience.
I remember climbing this mountain when I was 12, and I remember vividly my legs hurting every time we had to walk up stairs in hotels and such for the next few weeks!
I understand your pain! Happened to us too. We felt like really old people, we walked so slow and it hurt for weeks, we didn't know if it would stop hurting or if it was permanent damage lol
The tip is train, train train before this hike. my sister and I could walk normally on our high heels the next day in town.
I love this vlog! I'm from Sarawak, it's next to Sabah. Hope one day I'll reach this point. Cheers :)
Oh and have you ever visit Mulu??
To climb these mount Kinabalu is not that much hard actually. Fitness preparation especially on leg and calf already worth enough before hiking. A lot of peoples underestimate these mountain. Don't guys, all will revealed after 24hours of you rest day. 😎
Tulun Tokou yes the delayed onset of muscle soreness was bad! Hehehe
Well done, ladies. I'm planning this climb in October.. Your video is an inspiration..
Juliana Ayu Yahya thank you :) I hope your journey is pleasant this October! With decent weather 😊
You should come to kenya and hike up to the summit of mt.kenya , the second highest mountain in Africa. Youll love it

That is nice! Good you reached the top. But same for me, first and last hehehe :)
How’s the weather. My mom said before 2000s ranau way more colder than nowdays
wahh..nice vid.. Org Malaysia mesti bangga dgn gunung Kinabalu..
Been there once and I got off from the peak quite late, around 8.10 AM. When the moving clouds came, it was more breathtaking than the ordinary view. Like a flowing water then fall off the edge of the mountain like waterfall. It was before the age of smartphone. LOL too bad I can't capture the moment
I could imagine how beautiful it was! Sometimes some things are better left to the memory rather than having a photo or video of it because it doesn't really capture what you feel when you are there. :)
@@TheTravellingFoxes omg YES. I always considered myself lucky for having that chance. Treasure
Please come again 🥰
I’m not sure if I want to climb Mt Kinabalu again, but I’ve told many of my friends to climb it at least once in their life! :)
This is absolutely amazing,, we do hike often in HongKong ,, hope one day we can travel to Malaysia and hike same mountain u went ,, this is super thrilling
Unfortunately Mersilau route is no longer accessible.the trail with less staircase and so beautiful (additional 1-2km to laban rata) but its so worth it.
Oohh.. that would have been a nice experience rather than going to the same trail twice..
It still reminds me of the past of those who lost their lives (mostly students and staff from Singapore) Rest In Peace ✊😔
fantastic! would you mind tomake a via ferrata videoooo?
U guys are fast.. great job

I climbed this 2 years ago. I remembered I couldn't walk properly for a week after that. 😅
But... I will do it again because it's one of the most convenient mountain in the top 20 prominance to climb. And they maintained the place very well.
I hope I could climb with you here in Bukidnon, home of the 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 8th highest mountain in the Philippines 💖
I will try my best to climb more mountains around the Philippines 🇵🇭

Congrats. I'm going to repeat kinabalu via ferata soon. Wish me luck
Goodluck!!
Im planning to hike the mt. this end of the year. Just a quick question, did you left you bag at the place you sleep? You not carried all your items?
Hi, that is correct, you leave it in the bungalow. You pass the same way up and down. So the summit hike is only liquids, snacks and camera 😁
@@TheTravellingFoxes great! Thank you!
Thanks for the beautiful Art❤️
I wish to come here next year, 2022... In Malaysia still got some other Mountains, you will like it..
🥺🥺🥺wow Soo fun!!🥺
It didn't feel fun when we were hiking especially going up haha. But after that we realized how fun climbing Mt. Kinabalu actually was! I don't know if I would do it again, it was so tiring. But definitely glad I did!
Just did it. Down the mountain 2h and change. Going down sucked more than the climb. Tip: don't do it needing to make a flight for. CNY dinner!
Great video
Thank you for checking out our video! :) Hope you can subscribe to our channel for more travel videos.
If you reach the summit, even a muslhime can, the hard part is walking down. You cant practice this. Legs are stiff when you are in Kota Kinabalu.
I completely agree. Walking down the stairs is what caused me to have a hard time walking until one week after the climb.
How to go to mount kinabalu form kinabalu airporg?
Thé tour guide will get you from your hotel. You can’t climb it without permits, and it’s normally the guides wherein you can get the permits from.
Wellcome to sabah guys..
breathtaking view...very very awesome you get there..congrats 👍🥰
Do we need license or permit or anything to get up there?
Hi! For MT Kinabalu the tour agency will provide all the paperwork and permits. You won’t have to do anything. To just go directly to the mountain and hike won’t be possible.
Nice sis

The Travelling Foxes Hi :-) was it tough from Laban Rata to the summit and as for the ropes do climbers pull themselves up ( relying only on the rope while pulling their bodies up) or is it just walking up with the assistance of the rope? Thanks :-)

Do you need to hike with your backpack on both the 1st and 2nd day? Or can you leave your stuff at the pendant hut for the 2nd day?

Crulei Kruz definitely worth it, but not sure if I want to do it for the second time hehehe
Nice video. What is the background music title?
Where did your bags go during the ferrata segment of the climb?
In the accomodation in Pendant hut. After the summit and via ferrata, you go back to Pendant Hut to either rest for a bit, shower or snack before heading down.
climbing this next week ! what kind of outer jacket is recommended !!
Hi Stephanie! Any waterproof raincoat should suffice. Not something too thick and warm as you will be sweating a lot. Just prepare a warm mid-layer in case the weather changes :) Thermal underwears for the evening so you can jump straight to the second leg of the hike at 1am without having the change out of it.
Thank you ! I climbed it in August ! Was sooo cold but really good climb !
