I know how it felt. I had a pretty bad fever when I reach Laban Rata. But then I decided to move on with my fever and I managed to reach the peak. Best experience eva!
Wow I didn't know that there's something like altitude sickness... you vomited thrice yet managed to reach the peak. The kiasu is real! One round of applause for Ernest, please!
I was extremely worried when I found out from Shamus that Ernest decided to continue to the summit on his own, because I myself had a glimpse of blackout (literally), asthma attack, and have also lost my footing and slipped during the ascend. Thank God both Sook and Chua, the doctors were with me, so they kept me safe throughout the journey. Our team got separated because we were told not to wait as we might miss the cut out time, and it would be worse because by then no one would be able to reach the peak, even for those who could have would miss the chance. And before this climb, no one (except for Ai Lyn) knew I had asthma. Ai Lyn's dad literally went: "If I knew you had asthma, I would not have encouraged you to climb." Yep, had put my life on the line just so that I could scratch off one thing in my bucket list. Even my parents were shit worried and were spamming my phone with messages the entire time just to make sure I was safe. Nevertheless, this was the best way to end my 2016 - conquering Mt. Kinabalu! :)
Congrats bro. You made up to the top of the mountain. Is not the sunrise or the steep mountain you climbed but the emotion and mental strength you go through.
This Episode is more on how everyone's life is going to be... Everyone will sure been thru a time when you are all alone and do everything by yourself..,which you just don't give up on what you've started...Never Give Up ! Ernest Bro...so proud of you for reaching the peak...Congratulations... Your video just motivated me, and maybe some of the viewers as well...thanks...
I felt like vomiting right before the climb to the peak (I blamed it on my anxiety 😐) so did not eat anything before the climb and my mental strength was at its lowest! Great job for reaching the peak! 👏🏻
Very good...you really showed the true side of what can happen...at least a warning sign for climbers to take note...your video is really well done and thank you so much. Truly I am so happy for you that you finally made it...thro thick or thin...congratulations.
I recently climbed MT. Kinabalu, Thank God I reached the peak! I did not experience altitude sickness or any other sickness, just extremely tired and sometimes hard to breath. Just like you I was alone for quite some time because my group members were either ahead of me or behind me. When we passed the steep part, I too began questioning myself. I was also thinking how am I gonna do down when the sunrise and would be able to see steep part. But we made it! It's a lifetime experience
Cheers! Welcome to the peak club! Ive done it twice thou, that satisfaction when u reach the peak and just staring at the magnificent scenery, worth it
OMG my heart broke when u were left on your own. really feel your loneliness and pain. So glad I managed to get to the peak and back home safe and sound. take care bro ❤ Rest up well for your next adventure
Nice vlog! I first ascent to the summit back in 1988 and on my second try with my wife and sister in 1993. Because my sister developed altitude sickness we did not ascend to the peak. I will scale it again before I retire hopefully on my next trip home from Canada.
Kudos to you. I've just done this and got back this week. Instead of asking why, I just kept asking my guide how long more to go. You are right, altitude sickness is not to be messed with. I took Diomax and luckily I was fine throughout the trip. Just the wind and coldness and the steepness was killing me. Tiring was an understatement, I was exhausted. But i think i'm crazy enough to go back again. The experience of reaching the summit + the view was to die for. I'm a sucker like that :)
Congratulations on conquering the mountain - you were very brave! And you gave me scare with the blackout part! You should have parachuted down all the way :D
Congratulation is an understatement for this. There are no other words that I can express that you really reach to the peak nonetheless you puke thrice and altitude sickness. Moreover the alone period where you went up all by yourself without buddy is quite dangerous for me. I wouldn't compare scuba diving for a deep dive for this. Anyway i'm glad that you reach the peak and back safe. This 6 episodes really made me follow them everyday, more gan jiong than tv series. *90 degrees bow*
Damn bro! This is real tough! Watching this video gets me more nervous 😬😬.. I'll be climbing mount KK this 1st February.. I really really hope i can climb to the peak... Pray for me and our team safety 🙏.
as long as you follow the rope, you won't get lost... We climb together on that day and of course with different group. But we're at the top together! Of course we're remember you.
Congrats, remind me of my experience two years ago when I climbed mt.Rinjani, being the slowest person, and practically hiked the last part alone, but somehow I manage to make it to the peak just before the deadline. Wow.. just wow.
That background music with the last GoPro foot stage before it got blackout gave me a shock. Thought that you really fainted. Congrats anyway! Strong mindset!
Owh man! It was scary enough when you vomits before decided to continue climbing up but going up alone in that condition is totally insane! I am planning to climb Mount Kinabalu in June this year. That journey to the peak gives me goosebum . I just pray everything is going to go well. Now I doubt my decision ha ha shit! Anyway congrats man you had made it to the top! All your efforts is well paid. Bravo!
I've climbed it twice, once with my friends and I failed during my 1st trip after 3 of my friends in a group of 7 jitao pengsan and could not wake up 1AM as intended and missed the timing to climb to the peak and the second time was with my wife and my other friends were were also a couple and the 4 of us managed to reach the summit at 0625, 25th Oct 2015 and I'll have to say, you did good my friend. Good job and walao. That Panda cap looks out of place on there but you look extremely good and the cap is cute. Anyways, good job.

Ernest bro ! You did a good job ! I can feel your loneliness which there are nobody around you that time. This happened to me too haha. Anyway Welcome To Sabah !
We were told not to wait as those who were faster climbers might miss the cutout time, and that's worse because then no one will be able to reach the summit, and those who could've would miss the chance to do so.
My fiance also got the mountain sickness on his first attempt climbing the mount.K . He fainted due to extreme headache. On his second attempt, he bring along the pills for altitude sickness. It help him a lot to finally reach the pick.
Dude grtz for reaching at peak Mount.Kinabalu 👍 Apa yg penting Semangat untuk mencabar sesuatu yg extream u Bro sangat hebat .. By the way if someone ask u again to hiking at Mount Kinabalu will u go ? just asking 😁 ?

We were told not to wait as those who were faster climbers might miss the cutout time, and that's worse because then no one will be able to reach the summit, and those who could've would miss the chance to do so.
@5.27: you said you needed 3 hours to complete 1.8km. Does that mean you need to pull the rope up for that entire time? Massive effort!
Hi Ernest, that was truly a great vlog as well as a great achievement on your part!. Well Done! How was the experience of getting down from the peak?

I'm from SABAH and my grandparents say, To be a real Sabahan you must climb MT. Kinabalu to prove yourself
The beginning felt like Blair witch project. XD Towards the end felt like Amazing Race and you fear elimination. Good music choice during that part!!!
My fiance also got the mountain sickness on his first attempt climbing the mount.K . He fainted due to extreme headache. On his second attempt, he bring along the pills for altitude sickness. It help him a lot to finally reach the pick.
yeah very important to take those pills before a high altitude hike. congrats to your fiance on completing Mount K!
Dude grtz for reaching at peak Mount.Kinabalu 👍 Apa yg penting Semangat untuk mencabar sesuatu yg extream u Bro sangat hebat .. By the way if someone ask u again to hiking at Mount Kinabalu will u go ? just asking 😁 ?
for me.. i was also one of the slowest but steadiest.. sad that the rest didn't make it tho...
What brand of torchlight did you use?
i loaned it from a friend so im not entirely sure
M Games Nitecore
Dude i was only 13 when i reach the peak and i only had 1 slice of bread in the morning
Prassanth Balakrishnan Try it now
Do you know if you have had altitude sickness you must STOP climbing. Pushing yourself the consequence will be fatal.
buddy i know your in pain, but i cant help but laugh at some of your comments!! good job, enjoyed the video.im doing the climb in a few days :)
the guide shouldn't let u go up the peak yourself. just in case. I was left alone to return to the Laban rata myself on my first climb.
Lol even without toking ..his caption can still make me laugh 😂😂😂 ..autopilot
hahah but i really was on autopilot
tahniah
Not all vloggers recording this hike with rope...that was scary..and mentally challenging
sickk!
ohh sum rite on the top... i plan to go again soon >.
you damn hardcore
Don't ascent too quickly.. You will caught a.m.s.. It's happened to me last time.. Severe vomiting & headache.. I had to cancel my trip to the summit.. Lol
