I am super proud of you Paddy for not giving up on your quest to reach the summit. Bravo! I've had altitude sickness and it's no picnic. Can't wait to see where and what you do next. Now head back to Thailand and spend some quality time with MS. P !
Beautiful moments.. 4000m is no mean feat, proud of how far you have come and you continuing to push yourself mate.. a real inspiration! Maybe one day I will attempt it too..and to film through it makes it so much more difficult! Proud of you brother..
Congratulations Paddy. This video is no short of amazing. It’s epic. I did the climb last year when I was 43 and didn’t managed to reach the summit because of muscle cramps. I’m glad you did. Proud of you. 👏🏼 👍🏼
Thanks for the video, I'm going to Mt Kinabalu in November, your video is so inspiring. Even though little setback (rain)(altitude sickness), but you made it to the top! Congratulations, BRAVO. I hope when I go there I'll have the great weather as you get, & enjoy the beautiful scenery as you seen. You can do it, so can I. To the Low's Peak I target!!
Watching this made me so emotional for the mental struggle you went through to push on to the summit. I can only imagine how tough it really was. Great job Paddy!
Mate...you bloody legend. My heart rate was high just watching. I have had that feeling you went through, it's a little scary. Slowly you punched through it. Thanks for doing it for us! Super proud of you lad 👍👍
Next level, Paddy D! 🥰 Some might criticize for pushing through, but I think you did a good job listening to your body and managing things well so you could make it to the summit. Bravo! What a fun adventure!
Awesome job. As a local here in Sabah, we always thought that people from the West, Europe, America etc would not have a problem with the cold weather, bcoz they live in a place with four seasons 😂. Anyway, so glad that you successfully reached the summit with very nice weather. I've climbed Mt Kinabalu 3 times and all three with heavy storms. You are lucky to have "Harry Potter" as your guide as well. And he did a very good job taking care of you. Congratulations!
Hello Paddy, Wow ! Outstanding challenge, my very big respect, you did it ! I was waiting for your adventure to go up to Mt. Kinabalu and now what a heroically remarcable climb and your guide is a real trooper with a warm heart. This video is the best ! Thank you so much Paddy D. you are fantatstic !❤👍
Hiya Paddy. Love the intro. Petrol pump dancing. Always makes me smile. Proud of you for pushing on. Pushing through that anxiety all your feelings. I felt nervous for you. Cute squirrels. Harry does speak English very well. Great to have a guide. It would be worrying you being alone. Congratulations to Harry on the birth of his little man. And Congratulations to your sister. How lovely. I am to be a nanny again. My firstborn and his wife are due in March. I love how honest you are about your feelings. It will help so many people. The trees are beautiful. I Love how you soak every part of nature in. Human taxi. Never seen that. I think the anxieties you had. Are normal. Considering the weather you have been dealing with. You had your angels. Watching over you. Perfect weather on day one of your hike. Amazing footage. Harry was right to push on. I think sitting and waiting a while would only build more anxiety. He is a great guide. Wow. Paddy. Beautiful. Harry is amazing. Doing this three times a week. Respect. Congratulations. Amazing. WhooPPP. Love this. Well done. Proud of you, mate. I can not wait to share. Wonderful series. Love your videos.
Well done on an epic climbing event.. I did the same about 20 years ago when I was 35 and it was a real challenge.. There weren't as many climbers and not so commercialised back then and whenever we passed a climber coming down the mountain we asked "How long is it till we reach base camp" it was always a cheerful 15 or 20 minutes :) The worst part of it for me was the last 100 meters to the top where I had to stop every 10 meters and catch my breath and then proceed.. I made it to the top and I would have got down on my hands and knees and crawled if I had to but thankfully I didn't have to.. You have done well and will remember this for the rest of your life and feel proud.. Its feels great to push ourselves when we get outside of our comfort zones
Well done Paddy! Slow and easy you have conquered Mt. Kinabalu! Beautiful mountain, beautiful scenery and you have captured it well in the video. Cheers!
Way to go Paddy! That looks so hard. I actually have been training for a year on the treadmill including incline to do some mountain climbs but I was only planning to do Thailand mountains. :)
This is a slow-pace video showing the sceneries around the trail to the summit, good job done, I have climbed this mountain once in year 2000, views at the summit is just fantastic!
Congratulations Paddy for conquering Mount Kinabalu. I hope you have a great fond of memories here in Borneo Sabah, Land Below the Wind. Yes, Sabah is called the Land Below the Wind. Mount Kinabalu is the third-highest peak of an island on Earth and UNESCO World Heritage status. Please come again to Sabah in the future and if you're wondering, I'm Sabahan. Thank you for the wonderful video of Sabah.
Well done Paddy. I can only imagine the joy of this accomplishment. Due to my heart disease I'll probably never be able to experience something like this. I really appreciate you grinding it out for those of us who can only watch in awe.
Well done Paddy! Fantastic effort! Now you have a good idea of what to expect if you decide to trek to the Everest base camp. This will seem like a walk in the park in comparison. Having a guide on that trek isn't such a bad idea after all. Looking forward to seeing you back in Sri Lanka. Take Care. Cheers, Stef
37:14 There is a peak outside of Kuching - Mt. Santubong. Not as high as Mt. Kinabalu but challenging enough. That is... if you're interested to fly down and stop by in Kuching, Sarawak. Of course there are also the Mulu Peak and Mt. Murud... both in rural Miri.
O dear you!...we were on the edge of our seats hoping you would make it!...what an incredible climb..the view..health issues..the wear and tear on the body..and anxiety too!..but...those calves of yours.. would not quit..so you made it to the top!! Yay!!!...so proud for you bud!..get to rest now and thank you for not letting us down..Bravo Paddy Doyle!!..we love you sir!
Wow! The guide's leg muscles are truly impressive and most of all, natural. Makes me second-think about the gym haha. Anyways, great video series Paddy. Always cinematic and relaxing to kick it back and watch a next-level adventure series!
Anxiety is a beast sometimes. I'm sorry that you (or anyone) has to deal with anxiety attacks. It is awesome you were able keep going!! I liked seeing what the base camp looked like. And last note, I would have to be carried like that person was. Carry me please. 😆😆
I far prefer your videos when you’re happy and motivated but I loved this one mate. Even through your vulnerability and unmotivation at the start your warmth still shone through and it was great to see you come alive. Well done mate.
Wow wow wow 😅 your a Super Hero 🦸♂️ Paddy. I would never be able to do it so thanks for bringing me along for your climb. Enjoying all your adventures ❤
“…Leisurely 6 hour hike”. Well done Paddy! That climb with the altitude? Wow! So glad you conquered it. Really loved tour guide Harry as well. What a legend! And I think your experience brings a wonderfully different meaning to “nice guys finish last”. Truly a beautifully documented, exciting and informative series! Can’t wait to see what’s next, as well as the unveiling of your new channel! 🎉 -Cheers!
Should do a “what’s in your bag” video for a trip/hike like this ! Enjoying the video and serious. Show all the realness of the hike. Good and bad! The beauty and struggles. Just real
You pushing through one step at a time… is such a good motvation in life that sometimes it’s not about sprinting or rushing. Sometimes just take that one step at a time.. slow and easy but keep moving forward and up, that you WILL get there and it WILL be worth it! Don’t give up ! 💪🏾 33:12
Well done Paddy you done it ...watching from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 blessed you..🎉❤🎉thumb up to you ..Paddy thank you for sharing your beautiful video ..
Superb job Paddy. Thoroughly enjoyable video too. Seriously doubt I'd have made it to the first hut with those almost vertical stairs, never mind the top. Stellar effort.
Well done Paddy I bet you are totally stoked you completed the climb 🎉 Woohoo victory over the mountain. There are some medications that help with altitude sickness symptoms. I had this quite bad at only 2500m so I am a bit of a wuss now and avoid anything very high for travel. Anyhoo well done 👍
Another Awesome Adventure Paddy Doyle🙂You pushed your self to the limit and made it to the top Congratulation🙂Looking forward to the next Big Adventure in Sri Lanka🙂Watching from New Brunswick Canada🙂
I appreciate the tour of a unique ecosystem. I'd love to go, alas a little more than I can bite off. That is an extremely high camp for a coast dweller!
I love how you can talk continuously while hiking is super impressive!Im climbing Mt Kinabalu in November and i would really appreciate the packing list for your hike if u could share!
Hi been a sabah person I appreciated your advice and information about Borneo..hopefully your next trip back to Borneo it be great if you vist Beaufort as my later father was working with Charter Co Rubber as the Rubber plantion Manger..by the name Don Tuxford..do enjoy your next vist ..as all my familie's still living at Sabah Borneo..Cheers Bless you
The moment I saw you start without a trekking pole I knew you would have problems. I think the guide thought you wouldn't have problem. I climbed this mountain twice. First time I failed. Second time made it. PLEASE. For those who attempt this mountain. Use a trekking pole. You should be able to rent or buy at the base office. And take some pills for altitude sickness. Anyway, CONGRATS! This mountain is special. The weather looks nice too.
Some facts about Mount Kinabalu,, even though Kinabalu located in equatorial lowland country, it's occasionally received snow during colder season and another thing is the actual tallest peak is the more challenging peak which named as the Victoria Peak (can be seen here from your video 35:3536:09 , the peak with a small horn) instead of the Low's Peak, this peak height is estimated 20-25m higher than the famous Low's Peak (4,095.2m)
That was a fun watch. I thought you were making good time to reach the summit but that’s what we casual climbers faced towards the end. Each step was a struggle, breathing became heavy and your heart throbbing hard like it would burst out of one’s chest.
Great job uncle Paddy, congratulations!!! And what a great guy Harry is, hope your not scared of guides anymore after this experience !!! Some great options after this climb are Everest basecamp in Nepal, via the Gokyo lakes 5400m (5644m if you go to Kala Patthar viewpoint). Or Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania 5895m
I did the whole tour in 30h raced to the summit as one of the first and did the via feratta with only one other amazing guy I met along the way. Crazy mountain and experience do some diving to test the lungs when you go so high up. Helped me a lot
Paddy paddy paddy. Well done - amazing and it took me back to 'exactly' how I felt top of Mont Blanc which I think is only 3700 - I felt bilious, disheveled and very unhappy. So seeing you wander around made me smile - good job. No need to go that high again
Wow, Paddy! I am SO glad that you didn't give up! I am super proud of you! I know what altitude sickness feels like too; it does feel like you are going to die! I loved your Borneo series, thank you for sharing this with us! Some things in life are worth the hardship of the climb!
Kudos for not giving up Paddy! Impressed you only wore t shirts cos heard it’s freezing up there! Wish I had known of your videos earlier . Wonderful anecdotes and experience sharing . If you ever come back to Sabah or plan to visit Penang do get in touch. ( I love to connect people to make things happen ).
Watched this til I cried. I went there Nov 2023 and it was pouring while I was up from the mt foot > base camp, and while descending from peak > base camp > foot. "Going one step at a time will give you the best chance at success". This resonates so much. At the brink of exhaustion, but I persevered (also just to take that dang picture with the board). Taking 2-3 steps equals to 1 big lap of running no joke. But absolutely no regrets at all, I’d love to go again one day. Happy that you succeeded Paddy! 🏔️
15 yrs of solo travel. That is impressive. You must have seen it all. I climbed Kinabalu ions ago when there were a lot less people and the base camp was not as well established. I recall the days after the descent, my legs felt like jello. I appreciate you sharing your personal experience - both physically and mentally.
Paddy, I’ve watched your RUclips channel for a couple of years now, mostly because I live in Thailand and I’ve loved your Thai series during the pandemic! In my travels, when I was a backpacker at the end of the 80s, I trekked halfway around Annapurna in Nepal, one of the most magical and memorable trips I’ve ever done in my life. The highest point I reached was 3210 m at Poon Hill, so I know what oxygen starvation was like at that altitude. So hats off to you, my friend for continuing to the very summit of Mount Kinabalu for an extra 1,000 metres! I can’t imagine what that must’ve been like for you, but you really did it fantastically well. Really proud of you. Well done! Loved your Switzerland series, your recent Bali trip, I have really enjoyed your Borneo series too, capped by this fantastic achievement!! Looking forward to Sri Lanka next!! When are you ever going to make it home to visit your family?
Waaaiiittt. After kinabalu, u have to try mount Trus Madi. Its the 2nd highest mountain in malaysia BUT it is more challenging than kinabalu. Night sky is absolutely amazing.
When I climb Mt Kinabalu few years back, I had no problems with the ascends but during the descends, I was dying. My knees feels like a jelly and I keep falling with each step I take. It’s literally a mental and physical torture haha. The moment I touch the gate at the bottom, my knees just gave up and I collapse to the ground. But at least I made it through. My friend gives up earlier and had to be carried down by a porter
We live in altitude of 3,100 meters in Colorado for 14 years now, we are nicely adjusted to altitude, we organize annual 160 km endurance trail run to up to 4,000 meters called Leadville 100
Wow, Paddy, such perseverance! Making the last stretch with a headache caused by altitude sickness, what courage! And the images are so beautiful... Just surprised you didn't do your usual back and forth to film yourself climbing the mountain. A tad too tiring?😂
Do you think walking sticks would have helped? What a wonderful guide! My observation is that those participating took their time, rested when needed and it seems to be set up for those safe guards in mind. Congrats to your sis! Just got back from Thailand, will be catching up with this series 👍
I just wanted to leave a comment but idk what to say so... Congratulations and thank you for sharing this incredible journey for me to follow along too!
Wow, wow, wow amazing video and views. Super proud of you 👏 Thank you so much for what you do 🙏 taking me to awesome places and doing things that I just couldn't do. The best travel channel on RUclips! I would love to know how you felt emotionally and physically in the days after that spectacular hike .
I climbed Gunung Nuang years ago around 1,500m, ascended and descended within 12 hrs by evening. That was a tough one. There was no well beaten track or guides and it was not up all the way. The slippery path led you up and down many times before summit was reached. The biggest problem was lack of water and dehydration due to extreme sweating. The huge bottle of water was not enough and unlike Kinabalu, no way to refill anywhere so you have to carry a lot. It was alot steeper too. Pretty challenging but we made it.
Your videos are amazing because you give it your all for your subscribers. I feel as though I'm there with you on every climb ( even if I'm in my lounger enjoying an amber and a snack)
Great Video and good info about hike. Several other RUclipsrs have also recommended Borneo Calling guide outfit so looks like that is who I will book with. Planning to climb 5 or 6 mountains in SE Asia in spring 2024, Mt Apo, Mt Mayon, Mt Kinabalu, Jade Mtn or Qilai Mtn, Mt Hallasan, and round off with Doi Ithanon. You're living my dream. 👍
Fairly new subscriber and love the videos. Very honest and down to earth. It looked like you were struggling/not enjoying this trip as much as Vietnam. Heading to Penang from Bangkok next week and trying to come up with a travel route. Enjoy Sri Lanka!
So impressive! I recommend Pico Do Areiro on Madeira! Went there to scatter my fathers ashes and even though it was a sad moment it was the most beautiful climb I’ve ever done.
I hope you enjoyed not only this video, but the entire Borneo series 🇲🇾.
SMASH that LIKE and SUBSCRIBE if you did.....
Hardest trek I ever did! Congrats! It was worth it, isn't it? 🤗 I did it in May, with a little help from Diamox pill for altitude sickness! 😉
Congratulations 🎊 😊
@@PaddyDoyle. Congrats to you too!! Good practice if you want to trek in Nepal next time!! 😉
Hey Paddy do the Angel falls summit in Venezuela 🇻🇪
Love it very much! Love the sound of the birds chirping in the background... makes me miss home...

Thanks 🙏
Paddy, You are a Hero to do this climbing. 🙏
Awesome video!! It was a pleasure meeting you. My hamstring was so tight after the climb 😂. Anyway looking forward to your next adventure….
Awesome! congratz for reaching the peak even with the challenges. Strong and brave indeed
Beautiful ❤ Thank you for sharing this and so glad you made it 💪🏼
Awesome Paddy , you did it despite everything. Brings back memories of our climb about 15 years ago.
Noooo so much to explore
Thanks mate. I went home in August and I plan to revisit again early next year
Howay! Congrats on reaching the summit! One of my bucket lists!
Congrats! U made it!!
🎉
My friend gives up earlier and had to be carried down by a porter
weve had same experience.. luckily we dont need a porter
Well done Paddy! I am sure there will be many more adventures in store for you. Excellent video!
wow.. Welldone paddy💪. thanks to harry too. 👍
Great video! Really encapsulated the beauty of the struggle.
Way to push through, Paddy! Absolute legend. Those views are beautiful
We live in altitude of 3,100 meters in Colorado for 14 years now, we are nicely adjusted to altitude, we organize annual 160 km endurance trail run to up to 4,000 meters called Leadville 100
Well done paddy. Inspiring.
Wow, Paddy, such perseverance! Making the last stretch with a headache caused by altitude sickness, what courage!
And the images are so beautiful... Just surprised you didn't do your usual back and forth to film yourself climbing the mountain. A tad too tiring?😂
For this climb yea haha
Awesome!
Do you think walking sticks would have helped? What a wonderful guide! My observation is that those participating took their time, rested when needed and it seems to be set up for those safe guards in mind. Congrats to your sis! Just got back from Thailand, will be catching up with this series 👍
Paddy you are a tough bloke for sure… I’ve seen your journey and I think you’re a bit of a badass 😎
cant believe i have spent 38mins watching this... great video. great experience
Thank you Paddy for a fantastic video, you should be very proud
I just wanted to leave a comment but idk what to say so... Congratulations and thank you for sharing this incredible journey for me to follow along too!
thank you for visiting my homeland Sabah. we always welcome you if you comeback again. and the homestay you show is own by my friend's family. hehe
Wow, wow, wow amazing video and views.
Super proud of you 👏
Thank you so much for what you do 🙏 taking me to awesome places and doing things that I just couldn't do.
Well done, Paddy!
Your videos are amazing because you give it your all for your subscribers. I feel as though I'm there with you on every climb ( even if I'm in my lounger enjoying an amber and a snack)
I like your said... Stay positive.... This help we mind and mental
