As Sarawakian who live in rural area at Borneo island, jungle is our daily view and our childhood playground. I wanted the Borneo island stay underrated.
I'm from Tambunan and it's 4 hours away from Imbak Canyon. Gotta say, the rainforest is absolutely magical and holds its values. It left untouchable by the government to preserve it. I love nature and I hope you'd enjoy your stay here. Cheers!
I'm reading an old book called "Into the Heart of Borneo" right now that details an expedition there of two scientists back in the 80s. Jungles are so fascinating. Super well shot video!!
As someone who's born in Sabah and grew up there, really grateful and happy you guys got to be there and experience the nature! iirc Imbak Canyon wasn't really known amongst the locals until a few years ago (would say even some locals today wouldn't know about it) cause like you mentioned it on the video, the area was newly discovered. Made me happy to know the people there are passionate about it and really thankful they're preserving the place! Hope you guys enjoyed your stay at Sabah and thanks for the wonderful video and about the "can't go into the water for a swim" thing, while they might be keeping it preserved or for safety reasons, Sabah natives also has this "adat" (custom?) that nature should be respected bcs we believe they have spirits, kind of like animism. And some places in the forests shouldn't be bothered less there will be consequences
hey there! i didn’t know swimming was considered bothering. For my parents who also believe that, they only thought us to not be negative, and to try not to do number 1/2 in the jungle😂
Hii, I was just guessing that it could've been one of the reasons why they were told to not swim in the river, maybe the guide didn't want to spook them. Or it could really just be to preserve the river/water. I swam in rivers before, but i always avoided the deeper parts of it bcs of real stories I heard from relatives where people's legs were being pulled down- it's better to be safe than sorry i think @@Yuremiko 😭
That is why Sabah Borneo are given the names like 'Land below the wind' & 'The lost World'. Maliau Basin is definately a lost world. You'd think you are lost somewhere in Jurrasic Park guys. Depends how you define "oldest" As far as "Longest time a rainforest has been in that exact spot" then yeah its probably somewhere in Australia or Southeast Asia. But if you define it as the rainforest with the oldest lineages, that would probably go to New Caledonia and New Zealand (I'm not sure how long NZ has had rainforest for but probably a similar timespan to eastern Australia). New Zealand's rainforest has held a fairly constant character since the mid Cretaceous (minus the dinosaurs now but then again the Moa filled that role nicely), its still dominated by ancient conifer groups with a few old angiosperm lineages sprinkled in, and populated by birds, amphibians, and reptiles. There's definitely some debate on how truly ancient it is but its still about as close as you can get to Mesozoic forests in the modern day. Australia's rainforests are a tad overrated as far as age IMO, though they do still hold their fair share of ancient lineages.

You should visit Biogradska Gora in Montenegro. One of the last pre-historic rain forests in Europe.
How old?
im a sarawakian and during gawai, me and my family would go back to our longhouse or either go to our relatives that lives in rural areas. and it was nice tbh. even though im the "city"person type, but sometimes i do enjoy everything there 😂 its cold, calming and peaceful. even when sleeping, i dont use blanket a lot bc at night it's super cold compared to city areas. the best part is when we shower at waterfall ❤️ i hope more ppl know borneo is indeed a hidden treasure
3rd largest island bro, not 4th.
Careful , British troops from hk once went missing in sabah during training and rescued by malaysian commandos
Love your vlog.. feels like Im watching National Geographic but the fun version!
The honey from those stingless bees are very expensive
In malay those bees are called Kelulut
Their honey is medicinal
Maybe you can do a trip on the part of Borneo where they have the rescued baby orangutan’s and there
Rehabilitation center & school. I think you would love to experience it. From my understanding there is a lot of elephants in that area too. Love your videos! Keep up the great work 😁❤️❤️😘🍾🎂 happy early birthday 🎊🎉🥳🥳🎂🎂
Will add Bornea to my travel list. 😁
Thank you for taking us with you on your amazing adventure :)
Forest adventures are the best..
Went to Brunei, the actual Hearts of Borneo with jungle as old as the earth. Only Brunei and Sabah the only countries that will protect the jungle.
Brunei or Sarawak?
Im from Brunei, our only capital city might not be developed however we still keep our Forest Reserve the ones in temburong and belait un-urbanised and un-touched but guarded
As someone who's been living in a rainforest (Borneo, Indonesia) my entire life, I can attest to the fact that biodiversity here is incredible. Place a wooden board flat on the ground outside for a few days, and when you flip it, you'll find an entire ecosystem thriving below that board. I swear to God sometimes I feel like this place is hell due to the temperature, humidity, and the bugs.
I love your content and most importantly bali.
Thank ya!
after exploring imbak canyon you should try the Maliau Basin tour.. I'm sure you won't regret it
Amazing. I live in Myanmar.
Truly amazing life
We have sting less bees here in Costa Rica, the honey is supposed to be magical haha not like the mushrooms you find here too
