    I was roommates with a guy who developed schizophrenia as we were living together... The medication he was prescribed made him depressed and he stopped taking them.. He eventually went on to take his own life..
    Seeing this channel really made me glad to see someone with this condition so seemingly well-adjusted and successful. Hope the best for ya, man.

    My son developed schizophrenia after using meth intravenously for years. I often wonder if he had it before then. But it was 1000% confirmed by the time he was 25…
    You really helped me as his mother understand what he’s going through because he’s not as articulate about it as you are. This is really good insight to help him better. ❤He wouldn’t admit it for years. Also, he’s in Wisconsin.

      The elementary school I work at had a mental health therapist and she was one of the biggest assets to our whole district honestly. They just let her go because of budget cuts while simultaneously preaching how much mental health means to them.

    thank you so much for sharing your story it reminds me a lot like mine.
    I have schizoaffective disorder but only have half hallucinations. they're not real enough for the lines between fantasy and reality are blurred, but they used to be. I mostly had delusions back then. I can tell that they're fake after many MANY years of teaching myself to be self-aware, training myself to know myself and my insights & psychology.
    I'm able to pick myself apart psychologically and sociologically. because of that self-awareness, I'm able to pick up people apart too.
    I was looking enough to be born in a great household with my superhero being my mom. she's helped me through my highs and my lows.
    if anyone has questions let me know.
    remember, you're not alone. having a question does not mean you're crazy. question everything!! even if those questions lead to answers that give more questions.
    Live life curious

    I just wanted to say that I am so happy that you’re making these videos! People don’t understand much about it and this helps a lot! One thing that drives me crazy is that it seems like everyone thinks that if someone is schizophrenic they are going to be violent. I know that it can happen, but in my experience it usually doesn’t. My cousin had it and he was fine as long as he took his meds and stayed away from street drugs.

      I would add that while I'm not schizophrenic, I have a fair amount of experience with self-medicating, both personally and among friends and family. I think it's not nearly that logical a thought process, like, "I'm suffering with x-condition. I'll do drugs to feel more whatever or relieve symptom-y."
      I think it's usually just a matter of gravitating, often with little conscious thought or control, toward substances or activities that release some steam or allow one to disconnect.
      I had a roommate, for instance, who used to make stupid strong coffee and leave it on the burner. You could literally swirl the pot and see the coffee on the sides of the pot, almost like a syrup. It was horrendous.
      Then she would pour a mug and add, idk, no less than ten heaping tablespoons of sugar to it. Also horrendous. lol
      She didn't consciously think or say, "There's something wrong and my body/mind is telling me I might see some correction if I drink my coffee like this."
      She said, "Too bad. I know you all don't like it, but I like my coffee like this."
      However, once she was diagnosed and got her meds dialed in, she found that the appeal wasn't there anymore.
      Obviously, this isn't a cut and dry comparison to narcotics, but self-medication or self-soothing behaviors can take many forms. It might be substance abuse. It might be zoning out and scrolling on a phone for 13 hours a day.
      I'm not countering anyone's thinking or input. Just adding my $.02 to the conversation.

      @Mrs_Boots 3 месяца назад +2

      hello, schizoeffective person here. similar to schizophrenia. for me, auditory hallucinations are like really quiet version of regular inner monologue. but the monologue is interpreted like a spectrogram, so I see things in my head when I hear any sounds, including the hallucinations.
      I have synesthesia which is the mixing of multiple senses so not only can I see colors and shapes but I see waves and sound. Auditory hallucinations are dull versions of all that.

I am Bipolar Type 1 with Psychosis and right now my meds aren't working for me considering I see and hear more hallucinations before having a mood swing. SO here is my question, what is the difference between Psychosis and Schizophrenia?

    My mom was schizophrenic. I never noticed her having hallucinations, but she would tell me some crazy stories. Growing up, I believed all of them. Honestly, some of the stories are believable, but I'll never know what was reality or not. I'm not sure if she knew she was schizophrenic or not. Her father was schizophrenic, and I've been told it's genetic. I went to a therapist with these concerns and I feel like he didn't believe me. He told me to test if I'm schizophrenic, to stick my tongue out. If I can't control it's actions when it's out of my mouth, that means I also have schizophrenia.
    Okay, so that was the build up to my question.
    What symptoms did you start noticing before meds?
    What type of test did they do to confirm the diagnosis?
    Thanks for opening up! I'm proud of you and how far you've come!❤

    My biggest question is how do the hallucinations look when your hallucinating people? Is it like a real person just standing beside you... or kind of shapes and shadows like when you think you see a shadow in the corner of your eye? Or maybe a dream like state where you can't see the face or the face is reconstructed from people you've actually seen before, even if it was a second in a crowd...

    • @Silent_Steel
      @Silent_Steel 3 месяца назад +1

      Just very curious how the brain recreates these hallucinations... Audio I can easily imagine cause we all think/ talk to ourselves in our heads... But visual is a bit harder for me to completely wrap my head around... closest I can imagine is shrooms but that was more of like a fun house weird mirror effect on objects but other people looked normal

    • @tashsme
      @tashsme 3 месяца назад +1

      @Silent_Steel
      It might surprise you to find that some people have little to no internal audio track.
      Likewise, while many people have a very visual mental interpretation of their world, some picture pretty much nothing, having essentially no mental "eye."
      Someone was just saying the other day that they don't have an internal dialog. Like, they have to have a vocal conversation (even by themselves). Otherwise it's just....um....quiet, I guess?
      I kind of liken it (in a very small way) to how some people say they don't recall dreaming at all, while some have extremely vivid dreams. It's said that most people dream in black and white, but some dream in color.
      Crazy how we're all so different, isn't it?
      I personally have little auditory, lots of visua processing. Also VERY vivid, colorful dreams, and constant internal dialog, almost to the point that I can sort of pop in and see what's going on in there and surprise myself.
      "Oh, we're chatting about ducks rn? Rad." lmao

    • @Silent_Steel
      @Silent_Steel 3 месяца назад

      @tashsme I can definitely see that some people don't have that internal monolog (thinking)... and just blurt out the 1st thought that comes to mind lol... got quite a few friends like that... and dreams are very fascinating, too... like how everyone dreams, but most people forget 90% of their dreams within the 1st 5 mins of waking... and how scientists still don't fully understand why we dream... but I like the idea that it's the brain processing the data of the previous day to make ready for the next day of data... pretty neat stuff to me

    Very very positive to hear you and your overcoming your struggles and your symptoms.
    I personally have been diagnosed with schizophrenia at 14. And my systematic detachment from even the slightest form of reality is completely gone for years at a time. The medication is fantastic, when it works properly. The street drugs however, where never beneficial. I would like to know what your coping skills for paranoia that is related to anything positive. That is capable of even subdoing, even for a little bit. Cause the paranoia is completely engulfing my cognitive states, and the paranoia is causing the auditory complications that are truly causing my life to deteriorate, entirely.
    I'm ok, but I desperately require a little bit of rest from the constant, regrettable, duality of existence, unable to even have the slightest perception of reality. The insurmountable amount of paranoia needs to end it's endless pursuit. And I'm just politely asking for advice that will be functional.
    The only thing that is capable of releasing my hellish constructs of my corruption of my mind is my guitar. I have run out of everything else. I only have music. But one thing can't save me and I need a legitimate reason to remain on a world that I was never meant to exist in, that I fell like the world laments my meer earthly presence.

      @Mrs_Boots 3 месяца назад +4

      fun fact about schizophrenia is that it affects people differently in different parts of the world depending on the culture. America and Hollywood make hallucinations and schizophrenia like this crazy psychopath murder evil thing. so when people typically start to hallucinate they think the worst and they're thinking determines their hallucination.
      people in different parts of the world like Africa, those people are like shamans because their view of spiritual people with a higher connection than regular people and have more welcoming and positive hallucinations. same with Native Americans.
      it's really the thought process that determines your hallucinations. You have to work your mind into believing you will have positive hallucinations even if you're in the middle of a negative one. You have to gain control over them. It took me whole life to figure that out and I'm still figuring it out with my intrusive thoughts.
      "You influence your mind just as much as the mind influences you."

    Another readon it can go a few years undiagnosed is because a kid will go to college, ( which can set it iff, new things n dhit,) and personality changes are just observed as who you are, thet didnt know you before to call it out.
    Where as when you are in your home life relatives and friends notice the changes as in the case of my daughter. She was still home, so diagnosis was in 6 weeks. ( Earlier but she "wasnt telling" ) But i argued with those vouces and told them " im her mom, we talk about everything" and THEY ... AGREED!

      Ten years later, she needs we took a med outside the first hospitalization and instead asked about a non medicated treatment that just happened to be starting, but the patient had to ask, the doc couldn't bring up unless they did..
      So she went into a behavioral management study.. drug free.
      Does great. Happy girl.
      Diet also no carbs, mostly fiber an some meat and fish. No prepackaged food( poison) which was introduced to her diet as she got older and ate at other places other than home. The plastic food hit hard.
      So all three of my girls as adults, cook at home.. anytime their diet gets a bit "dirty", they have PMS, psychosis, depression and anxiety.
      Cook from scratch. Organic food.
      It was an assault to theyr body when they ate other people's food. I saw thiis early with two of them having asthma. And I always are the way I do because of fibromyalgia from infancy. Growing up in the 60s to 80s, I couldn't consume certain foods anymore till I started cooking from scratch again after a tip out of the US and I could eat beef and corn and vegetables and eggs again.
      So my body recognizes the crap they did to our food , I'd be bedridden for days and miss school, so when I came back,I got organic food. And then raised my kids on it.
      No soda either. No milk, unless it was used to cook. No baby formula, I nursed all three when no one did. For two years each. Almost tree for one. ( No birth control ever. Kids are 5 years apart each. )
      I'm just putting this out there because my daughter's first phsyce doc asked me about all this, and it confirmed a couple of his theories.
      Mental illness in the US is higher than other countries who's same illnesses are far fewer.

    I have questions but honestly don't know enough about schizophrenia to say I know how to ask questions sensitively, if necessary.
    I've never had a visual hallucination, or ever any that I know of. But with a visual hallucination, (not to sound rude) but don't some relative context clues maybe help dismiss some hallucinations? I mean - do they all make sense in ways? Obv the mind is powerful so that's why I'm curious what it's like.
    For example, if you see someone casually talking to you in the doorway while your playing a game at 2 am, or something, like do they ever look like strangers or like people you might recognize? Can questioning the logic of "who tf is this calm person talking to me at 2 am in my doorway all chill?" Or like "nah my uncle live 5 states away, I know he's not here."
    I hope I'm making sense and not just sounding rude and ignorant.
    Is the lighting of a hallucination ever off from the surrounding room? Like you're in low light be see someone as if multiple lights are on?

    Born female here (trans male). I’ve been getting symptoms. I’m 20. It’s more like physical touches, “seeing” someone in the corner of my eye REALLY vividly, but when I look there, they’re gone, and sometimes auditory hallucinations. Is this enough of a concern to tell a doctor?

    • @tashenamason
      @tashenamason 3 месяца назад

      Yes. You don't need to hit a certain threshold. You're concerned, that's enough to ask a doctor. (And for any concern, not just schizophrenia) ❤️

    God this sounds just like my ex husband who I have 2 daughters with. He did H and then right after that he got diagnosed with schizophrenia with delusions and psychosis. It's been 7 years and it's still really bad. He's broken into people's homes with them there and they had a gun and were threatening to shoot him in he didn't go away. He then started screening our names (because he thought that our daughters and I were being held hostage in these people's house) he then broke there window and tried to get in. Luckily the cops got there just in time to pull him out of the window and arrested him. He got sent to a mental facility thanks to his mother who has full custody of him because he can't be trusted to do the right things but he had never done anything like this. He would usually just start talking to himself about God and pulling energy from the sun. If you want to go check out his Facebook and come tell me what you think? His name is Worm Sharfe. But his real name is Jeramie Sharfe. He just used his nickname which he's had since he was a child.

    I’ve always wondered what it would be like if someone tried to fight their hallucinations? Like if they ran towards it and like stood inside it then like surely you would just like be inside it as it isn’t there and then it would go right?

    Did your incarceration actually help you or did it just make things worse?
    A lot of people with mental health issues end up with problems with the law, and a lot of the time, prison does not have the ressources necessary to help someone in crisis.
    Usually leading to the person getting further into deep shit.

    Are you able to rationalize things like “this isn’t real” and then think about it logically when you’re having hallucinations? For example can you think “oh, this person isn’t real, it’s 4am in my kitchen and I’ve been alone all day?”

      @Waywardtrickdogs 3 месяца назад +1

      @@Lordofgodlevels yes .. but if you find the right meds you can minimize the amount of side effects while reducing (or maybe getting rid of) symptoms. There are side effects to most meds. Almost everyone takes some kind of medication and they live just fine. Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness that needs proper treatment (meds) .. meditation won’t treat it
