    As someone who works in schizophrenia research I keep trying to tell people that it is a common disease and that more people than you would think have it - I appreciate you telling people about your experience because I feel like it's important for people to understand it better.

    I agree with you 100 percent. Nothing like having it and being able to explain it. If you are around with someone who has a mental illness, you will get an education on it too. The most misunderstood subject in the world, thanks for helping to explain it.

    Great infomative video Kody! I'm glad you feel strong enough to talk about your illness and let others know about it as well. We need to talk about mental health way more than we do. I find so many people - my age - are conditioned to think that mental illness is a weakness. But it is nothing to be ashamed of and the more we talk about our illnesses, the more we can help others!
    Lots of love to you and Alison!

    I think it's such a brilliant and elegant solution to use a phone/security camera (and in another video, you said you can watch a dog's reaction to see if they greet the person). I'll definitely keep those in mind to suggest if I hear of anyone around me struggling with schizophrenia. Thank you!!

    2. When you use your phone and/or your sweet dog to analyze your hallucinations, does it give you any relief, or reassurance when you discover that they aren’t actually real? Does discovering that they aren’t real make them disappear?

    Hey thank you for your videos! I don't have schizophrenia but I have borderline and anxiety, and because of that I get psychosis from time to time. Right now it's more. And the idea with recording is just great! I mostly have auditory hallucinations so I record the talk on the recorder. It really helps!

    Curious but based off one of the questions you answered… in the video you saw someone in the hallway and invited them on the couch. I assume you just live with your wife so wouldn’t it be safe to think that anyone in your house other than your wife is most likely a hallucination? Especially if you hallucinate people you’ve never seen before? Or do you just hallucinate your wife?

    This was very informative. New to your following and have learned a lot already. Thank you for sharing! I have two questions. 1) I noticed you will say “shh” when you start thinking your hallucinating. Is this a common tactic to make hallucinations go away? 2) In certain situations, are you able to immediately know it’s a hallucination (ex: someone is suddenly in a room with you that’s locked) or does the hallucination affect your ability to distinguish that it’s impossible someone is there?
    Thanks!

    My question: How do you cope with delusions and paranoia (especially thought broadcasting if you experience that)?

    • @kttv9442
      @kttv9442 Год назад +3

      Hi! I have paranoid schizophrenia, so I can talk about my experience with paranoia and delusions. For me, the best way for me to cope is to talk about what my delusions are with a close friend who understands and accepts my schizophrenic issues. It helps me get a new perspective and understand what is a more realistic judgment of the situation. Like, for example, I had a lot of trouble shaking the idea that my car was wiretapped by the IRS (because the voices I hear while driving sound like they’re coming from my car stereo system) and I couldn’t really break the fear and paranoia until opening up to my friend while in the car about it all.

    It was helpful to see the hallucination video to get a bit of a sense of what that is like.
    I have a friend with mental health struggles including schizophrenia. He seems to sometimes have an elevated sense of meaningfulness in things, like a colour or word. Wondering how common that is?

    Hi there Kody! I just started following you and I thank you for your courage to share your experience with the world. I hope it makes things a bit easier when you know that you help to many people in or living with someone in your situation.
    Since I'm still educating myself on schizophrenia, I wanted to ask you, are hallucinations a type of intrusive thoughts? It's something that I have as an experience and while I'm listening to you, this is the closest thing to an explanation for hallucinations
    that I give to myself. Because (this is how I understand it), it's clear that our brain will not create something that it didn't learn somewhere on the road (like we can't think in Mandarin if we never knew that Mandarin even existed), so it feels like intrusive thoughts get voice and shape.
    And if have the right logic and they are indeed a type of intrusive thoughts, is there any way that a person can train their brain to reduce them? Or there's a totally different explanation? Thank you!

      @djungadjanga2853 Год назад

      Also, I just watched the video where you explain how auditory hallucinations sound and it reminds me to an awful experience of my own - when I had a really high fever as a kid and for hours I was hearing angry voices talking from a distance. And when years later I talked to some people who also got ill with really high fever, they shared that they had the exact same experience - an angry woman and a not so angry man talking. For some people it was only the angry woman talking, for me they were two people, and one time they were three.
      None of us experienced this in another situation except when having really high fever.
      I guess this is something that you already heard of, but have you ever received an explanation of this experience from a professional? Is it somehow linked to the way the brain produces auditory hallucinations in schizophrenia?
      And please.. Don't bother to not answer if I am asking too many questions :) Stay safe!

    What is causing my son to be extremely paranoid. He just got out of crisis for 3rd time. Only out a few hours and he needs to go back. His paranoia is o.u.t of control!

    • @PocketAces2Start

      I know someone who is paranoid too. Every person it seems they come in contact with, they file that person away in their memory, then later tell me that person is stealing their medicine, their mail, their money, and the person lives on the other side of the country. The person actually is so convinced, they start to get really angry. It's very frustrating and in a way dangerous because they accuse you of stuff and they say they are going to call the cops. Fortunately, I have a clean record, and the police are really good at figuring it out. Once, the person has been admitted a few times, I know I just have to tell them that information. I think it's usually chemicals in the brain being out of balance. This guy mentioned dopamine, and I hear norephedrine a lot too, but I think that's mostly for depression. If the person is on drugs, the chemical reactions in the brain can cause a host of problems too. Another schizo patient came up to me and said, I was in his head. He later apologized. and said it was Johnney Depp, not me. He was admitted, and when released he called me and sounded like a different person. He was so excited., He knew the meds were helping him. I hope your son got the right meds, or got better somehow, it's no fun for anybody.

      Find a church. A real church. Talk to deacons about praying over your son. There will be real Christians who will recognize demonic attacks like this. Also you yourself will have to advocate on behalf of your son. It’s perhaps time to turn to the Almighty. Jesus can heal and better yet, save.

    • @GregoryHunter-rm4ei
      @GregoryHunter-rm4ei Месяц назад

      No, don’t seek a religious answer to a medical condition with a physiological cause. Praying might help build your morale and give you strength, and a relationship with god helps some people, but it can’t cure symptoms of a medical condition, not schizophrenia nor cancer nor anything else. Schizophrenic hallucinations aren’t actual literal demons, they are a result of your brain creating false sensory experiences, and spreading the idea that hallucinations are actual real demons his harmful to people who live with this condition.

    do you think it was like a glitch and taping into alternate realities or dimensions or frequencies that we arent normally supposed to see? like everything you saw was real but you arent normally supposed to see those things? you got broken somehow and saw what you shouldnt have and then the psych drugs took your ability away again?

    Do your hallucinations make sense in the moment the same way a dream taking a random left turn doesn't seem strange? I imagine an unknown person showing up in your office would normally scare someone a lot more than a "what do you want" but I don't know the full process of witnessing something like that.

    So here's a question, though it may not really apply to your situation. What other symptoms do you struggle with that aren't directly tied to hallucinations? My diagnosis comes with fun little extras that are difficult to explain, especially when they don't seem related. Do you have anything similar?

    • @PocketAces2Start
      @PocketAces2Start 2 месяца назад

      I would just leave them alone, because based on my experience dealing with someone, they can't tell the difference between reality, and the hallucination. For some reason, they actually with clutch their fist, or yell at you because you don't believe them

    • @Ilych367
      @Ilych367 2 месяца назад +1

      depends if they know that they are someone who experiences hallucinations. if they do know they’ve had them before it can help if you already know that person. if they don’t know, kinda dumb they’ll just believe you’re fucking with them.
      wouldn’t bother unless you know them well enough for them to have a reason to believe you and even then, distracting them and getting them to ignore it and away from it is probably better
