The Cult are one of the finest rock and roll bands of all time.
You didn't wake us up just to tell that, did you?
They were better when they started & called Death cult one of biggest Goth bands early 80's.
@@woody5831 naw. They've evolved and are putting out great music these days.
@KingLouisV what? Death Cult were great (top Goth band at time) better than before they changed their name to the cult & lyrics were so much better Then than on love etc You really need to get real 😆
Look at their body of work.
Not a dud in the whole catalog.
The Cult, should be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame
YES
For Sure!!!
hando88c TOTALLY AGREE
killing joke my vote,,,but yes
Who gives a fuck about TRRHOF?
It's bollocks!
I don't always listen to the Cult but when I do the neighbors do too
As it should be, if you're doing properly. Cheers! 😁🤘
Very original comment you fucking dork.
There is something to be said about listening to the Cult at high volume...
nkmcfrln agreed
Absolutely. I even play The Cult in my shed.
One of my favourite bands of ALL TIME!!! Criminally underrated band.
Agreed!!!
These guys and King's X. There should be a law.
Mine too ❤️
Holy Smoke
Yeah, in the rock music circles they are both respected,
but don’t think they sell a lot of records...but does anybody
anymore? The Cult used to sell a lot records from late 80’s to
early 90’s, though...so they’ve made their money...not so sure
about King’s X, and that kinda bothers me...✌️
Underbought not underrated. The British used to like other things when SDC/DC/Cult were in their prime time. Italo disco, Stock Aitken Waterman, HiNRG, Pop etc.
I love Billy Duffy, he's such a typical Mancunian, down to Earth and funny.
I saw The Cult live in memphis summer of 2022. They rocked the house. Ians vocals were spot on. 30 yrs had zero effect. Timeless rocker!! It seemed like I walked right into 1989. Music is the closest thing to a time machine we have. Rock on dudes!!
Hearing Ian sing Wildflower with Duffy playing an acoustic guitar is a real treat. Ian's voice is like Corvette, lots of horsepower, and he has to throttle it down to give listeners depth, dimension and emotion to the song. I can see that the song has real meaning to him. Duffy's guitar playing is exquisite. They make a great team creating their legacy in music forever. What a blessing to be exposed to their music. Viva The Cult!!
That performance of Edie was beautiful! Think jonesy was stunned 😳
Billy Duffy talks more here than in 33 years of interviews I've seen, combined, and he is wearing one of those rare "smile" things!
ROOKTABULA Interesting - every interview I’ve heard over the past couple of years, he barely pauses for breath. I guess he’s making up for it.
Jonesys guest are always of a very high calibre and they always seem relaxed talking to him. Billy and Ian are obviously friends, but it is the same with most of his guests. he has stayed down to earth and is completely unpretentious which is very rare for such an influential guy. he is pure class
I saw The Cult as the opening act for Billy Idol in 1986! Great times!
Chris - Steve Stevens was!
Pacific colosseum Vancouver 1986 same here
Same here...Lubbock, Texas. Fantastic show.
I saw them open for Metallica on the “Justice” tour. They’re why I went. Didn’t disappoint!
@@thomasbonnett5806 I saw them on that tour too, they killed. Meadowlands New Jersey.
What a great voice! A guitarist at the top of his game, who is showcasing the talent of his singer. AWESOME!
Fun to watch!
Love The Cult...we listened to all of these albums in college..over and over
Ian and Michael Hutchence. Two frontmen with the voice, the looks, the moves and God given NATURAL stage presence. ROCK GODS & beautiful beautiful men.
❤❤
The Cult
❤
The Cult is definitely one of the Best Bands Ever!!!!
Goddamned right!! Love them!!
Astbury has the most unique voice in rock. He's like a punk/goth baritone crooner.
Always had some harsh edges. Some corny lyrical content and delivery from time to time ...but great.
Ian played more shows as the Doors of the 21st century with manzarek and kreiger then Morrison did with the doors
@@mymythTV He always was a Morrison impersonator. Not that there's owt wrong with that.
@@gerrabath I read an interview once and Ian said about playing with the Doors and how he always considered himself a Doors Devotee. I wouldn't say he impersonates Jim. Ian uses similar stage devices and what cowboy boots... but he has created his own world and despite hiatuses they've remained an active band.
,(^@*^٪*&'z
I Always did & still do love the Cult, one of the best bands of all time. The Cult right up there with the Rolling Stones. Their music is awesome & timeless. Just fabulous!!! 👍😜 💖 👍
Ian's voice is still insanely magical after 45+ years. The Cult started in 1983.
Ian was in the The Southern Death Cult in from 1981 to 1983. In 1983, The Cult formed as Death Cult and changed their name to The Cult shortly thereafter.
@@Danimal77 Thanks, I wasn't aware, lol. If I could ask Ian one question, it would be at what age did he discover that he could sing like that?
That acoustic version of Wildflower is awesome. They should do the whole Electric album unplugged.
Remastered
Billy's quite a character, genuinely funny! Jonesy's always entertaining
The Cult is one of those rare bands that has a plethora of great songs
IAN SOUNDS FANTASTIC .
Just catching this now, but yes, I thought the same thing, what a voice.
Ian has got some pipes on him.
i put on Love after watching this, great goth/rock album
"Sweet little sugar- talker, Paradise dream-stealer"!! I love it, only Ian Astbury can get away with those lyrics & make it sound so incredibly bad ass! 😉🔥🤘 long live the cult
And literally everything on "Electric"! 🤘😎👍
Electric - still remains one of my top 10 CDs in my car.
Ive seen the Cult 16 times since 87...saw them last Friday May 10th in Atlanta on the Sonic Temple 30th anniversary tour...they are still as amazing as ever. Tempesta is easily the best drummer they have ever had...really glad they have kept him in the line up for so long. Absolutely brilliant band
They should recognize you ask them for a backstage.
Joe Peters ive seen the cult well over 500 times saw death cult bout 20 time iwas at the cults very first gig as the cult hull tower 1984 still have the ticket
@@redroof6904 I am so jealous. Would love to pick your brain or to have been with you to see all of those shows. Outstanding
I salute one of their fans who's been on the ride for most of it! O7
I was aware of Fire Woman but missed really getting into them but have been bingeing for the past two months.
Mr Astbury is just a stunning vocalist. Great to see.
Gav Brady it’s kind of funny as Ian is such a soft spoken guy then boom his singing voice is amazing 😊
...and hear
How time flies. it feels just like yesterday that I was opening the electric album and looking at all The photos and that logo and wanted a Gretch white falcon but couldn’t afford it so I ended up with a white Ibanez Sheraton II which I still have today.
At 57 now, I went back to revisit some of my favorite music and most influential bands. The Cult by far had one of the biggest impacts on me from the Love album to the current Pure Cult! Billy will always he the Falcon God in my book!
I remember Ian when he first played in Bradford with SDC. He had a thick Scouse accent.
Very enjoyable. Seems as though Billy and Ian genuinely get on quite well together.
They do.
They go way back
I Dig Steve Jones laid back approach to interviewing people. Reminds me of the good old days.
The Cult has been in my bloodstream since 1981. Never Left. Named my first born after Ian.
You named your kid Astbury Policy? Quite eclectic.
I had the very good fortune to support Billy’s side band Circus Diablo on a little tour a good few years ago. Billy is one of my earliest guitar heroes and I couldn’t have been more delighted with what an incredibly good guy he is. Being Northern ( British), I was also delighted to hear how much of his accent he’s kept. Absolute legend of a man and Sonic Temple is, to me, still the definitive rock guitar sound
Fantastic!
Wow, the Edie was fantastic! Thanks Jonesy, Ian and Billy!
Crazy good!
I saw The Cult 3 times back in the day. Every show was absolutely great! I think Ian is one of the most iconic frontmen of all time. He's right up there in the league of Plant and Tyler.
19:56 He almost blew the mic out when he started singing 😂😂
Billy being the talker and Ian being the quiet one, was not what I had expected.
Love The Cult. Always see them when they come around and buy their cds. Ian still sings great and they were obviously in good spirits here. Glad Ian and Billy are happier now and drink and drugs haven't leveled a lethal wedge between them.
i watched a 2004 BAND interview where IAN did 80% of the talking and Billy did 17% and that was not a happy atmosphere...
when Billy first started playing the riff in the background i was like "why is he playing hurt?" i guess Ian thought so too. LOL
ian and Billy accompanied by Jonesy is a outstanding interview !!!!!!!!!!
Ken oath my Irish friend
Wow, what a hair raising version of Edie. One of the great British hard rock bands that has universal appeal. Absolutely unique
Love Ian & Billy seen them many times! I could listen to Billy for hours such charisma! Great show blessing from London.
Just 3 proper English dudes shootin the breeze, I know Billy Duffy & JOnsety are really good pals, Ian comes across as a lovely guy too on this, love it :)
My favorite band of all.
@23:43 Ian is so beautifully humble - and after such an impressive rendition as that!
Edie isn't an easy song to sing and by Billy's response, he hit it. Love to see these guys together.
Wild flower, sooo good, and he still sits , wow. 🌸🌺🌸🌺🌺🌺
Love to hear Ian sing edie so beautiful❤️
34:50 and on...Ian's voice is still amazing.
Wow, these guys were/are so cool.
I can't begin to explain how much they influenced me.
It took me decades to get over (read; return to normal, after) their (discovering their) albums "The Cult", "Electric", and "Sonic Temple".
NOT how I thought Duffy was at all!
Love him! Very charismatic and personable.
Ian still sounds great! lucky to keep his voice after all this years.
What a great voice love the cult
What a VOICE! What a band!
freaking amazing vocals
Never before would I have considered "The Cult Unplugged" such a good idea....
I think Ian's voice sounds better now than it did in the 80s.
He looks much worst though...
@@Palace-of-Madness I'm sure you do too.
@@Danimal77 exactly...what a tool...a never was commenting on what someone used to be
Saw them at the Hollywood Palladium back in 95. Fugging awesome show. 🤘
love the cult since they first started and they still sound great.
I use to always say Astbury had the greatest rock and roll voice of the 80’s.
Granted it’s subjective, and looking back he’s in my top five of the era.
So fun to see Billy and Ian together.
A band that make very good rock and great music and lyrics.🎸🤘
Edie Ciao Baby...Epic!
This was great...so cool to see these three chaps just hang and have a laugh...
I saw The Cult in London Ontario a few years ago. I think Ian Astbury spent some time in Hamilton Ontario growing up. Great band....great sound. Lots of energy. Lots of great songs. Definitely check them out if you haven't seen them. I wish I could have seen Ian with The Doors. I wish they would play a Doors song with the Cult.....that would be amazing. What a great voice he has..very distinctive.
When I was going to school in Hamilton, I stayed with a family where the son knew Ian. Ian autographed a Cult video for him with the inscription "to Roy - Stay free. Wolf Child."
Roy said the biggest drag for Ian was they were expected to play love removal machine and sanctuary every time.
Oh yeah, Ian's voice is sublime. One of the best, most unique and inimitable voices in rock.
The Cult Electric.. 😎 The Cult Love.. Both Awesome Albums! Good day on Steve Jones' Box! .. 😀👍
I'll take those, plus the Live at the Lyceum concert, plus Beyond Good And Evil album.
@@j_freed I haven't heard them but I'll check 'em out! 👍😀
Sonic Temple better than both them albums combined.
jason x- easy now big boy
two or the greatest albums ever, every one should listen to the cult sometime...\m/
Ian is beautiful both on inside and on The outside ❤️🏹
Its good to see them both do an interview together. Helps they're pals with Jonesy & you see them having a laugh.
Transported back to my former angst of being 17 and the world was so wide open. This band is part of my DNA now. Long live the CULT!
Ian looks great!
Ian and Billy and the Cult are Legends ! Hall of famers all day every day 💪
Great band. Love/Electric/Sonic Temple was one of the great peaks for any rock band, I reckon. And ol' Ian guested on Fire and Gasoline by Jonesy with Axl Rose, on "I did U no wrong" redo).
yes, GREAT album....
Love the Cult! Got to see them in St. Louis in 2017! Been a fan since 1984! Love you guys!!
Billy loves his football and more importantly our boys in blue. Great banter between these out and out legends.
Seen THE CULT open up for METALLICA in the 90s man they really kicked there ass all over the stage been a fan of THE CULT since that night in ROANOKE VIRGINIA
You saw
I loved this!!! Ty so much The CULT has always been one of my fav bands!! I met them once after a show & they were kind, beautiful people 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Their friendship is awesome. You can tell they love each other :)
Oh man I've been a fan of the cult from day 1 and these guys still rock, my all time favorite band. Remember meeting them backstage at the Brixton academy in 1993, and laughing with Ian as a pissed up groupie walked out of the toilets with a huge roll of toilet paper stuck to the bottom of her high heels, ahh Rock n roll lol
Great great band. Fantastic timeless music
Billy smiling the whole time! Ian right into it! 🤘😎👍
Gotta Love The Cult
WHAT A VOICE!!!! Still got it boys 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
Brilliant version of Wild Flower.
Hilarious, Love the patter between them. ⭐️
Chills up and down my spine when they started playing Edie.
This is how rock stars grow old gracefully. Somehow Duffy turned into David Beckham in his old age
I thought he always looked like David Beckham, even when he was younger.
Ian looks like Jim morrison
@@hansdietrich3102 VAN
What a great pair of Northern English lads Billy and Ian are. None of that southern insecurity or snobbishness, just made of the right stuff. Keep it rolling good Northern folk.
Typical comment from a chip on their shoulder Northerner. See, anyone can talk shite even Southerners. Personally I judge people as individuals generally
Interviewed by (and good mates with, a bloke from west London) proving that you're talking parochial bollocks mate.
Great stuff, you got triggered. Proving my point precisely.
@@grandmasterplank. My whole family is from Rossendale; your presumption is therefore about 200 miles off. So no I did not get "triggered" and your "point" is still a load of bollocks.
No mate, you got triggered. You replied. The End.
The tunes sounds great fellas...!
Thank you Kids.. Get Em To The GREEK!! 🤘
Damn, his voice sounds great
Ian still has the pipes
Crazy good.
Chow Babay. He sings with great dynamics so hasn't blown out his pipes. One of the best.
Awesome! So glad I stumbled on to this!!
One of my all time favorite bands picked up some sweet singed stuff at there last album tour from the merch table they give such good Interviews too!
Brilliant! Loved this so hard.
I love The Cult.
Astbury is an IDLES fan - how cool !
Seen them a few times and they were always Great! The Ceremony Tour Lenny Kravitz opened!
...but otherwise the music was good 😄
Those Ceremony tour recordings sound good, the album, ehh... and it was around the year that the Seattle sound killed this kind of arena rock, for the time being.
Legends! Love it!
Billy Duffy should do a show.
Love these guys!
