      Lee McQueen Ditto. The honest voice of The Sex Pistols. If you want the truth and sensible comment on that era he's the man. Best to avoid the revisionist clown named Lydon - who was the absolute face from 76 to 82 and has done nothing but talk rubbish and release rubbish since that point. The Sex Pistols reunion stuff was a travesty.

      Beefheart1 PiL put out some decent music and credit for Lydons there. Lydons has become a sell out to whatever will make him money. He's so contradictory it's become a real turn off.

    He could do with losing a few pounds - couldn't we all! But he looked great back in the day. It's always hard to see your childhood heroes grow older I guess. He's still the man though and, in my opinion, turns into a better bloke as each year passes. Johnny Rotten is painful to listen to these days but that weirdness that puts you off now is what made the Sex Pistols special then. I remember a lot later on at a Damned gig when Roman Jugg was playing the guitar, he stopped playing and told the audience to stop spitting or he would not continue playing, they stopped spitting!

      @not jeffrey Now now, that's not nice lol. And guess what too; when a band that has the sound that captures the heart, mind and soul of their own generation's youth (like me! The first Sex Pistol's song I ever heard was Pretty Vacant, being stuck here in the snake pit of Dunedin New Zealand and not in the centre of the former Swinging (ugh) London) and they sing lyrics that claim they want anarchy and tell the press they're into chaos (for suck's fake!) then that's what they leave themselves open for. And leave Nancy and her memory alone anyway! She gave SID VICIOUS the love that he wasn't going to get anywhere else because if there's one thing the guy could never be described as, it's "a catch." Besides, she paid for it all in spades anyway. I mean, it can't have nice for her being on the receiving end of all the pent up rage that John Lydon in truth felt mostly towards the mother of his best mate from childhood. After all, it was her who drugged up her son and supplied him with the heroin he killed himself with, not Nancy. Talk about blaming the victim not jeffrey. Shame on you!

      @gallaghim 7 лет назад +8

      I've been a fan for a lot of years but these days Lydon just bores me. He sometimes speaks a lot of sense still, but y'know he's more of a cartoonish caricature now. He doesn't seem to have the capacity to change and quite honestly should get some psychological help. Could you imagine being as angry as him your whole life? It's unfortunate. Look at Steve Jones, he has clearly changed quite a lot and seems happier for it.

    • @heliopolis29
      @heliopolis29 7 лет назад +2

      Beefheart1 An absolutely valid point. I think John Lydon assumes he'll be misjudged as selling out if he changed. Anger is an energy, but by eck, when's he worn out, lol?!

      Thing is John contradicts himself somewhat, saying he 'would have voted remain' alas he alters his tune and plays the working class card and admires Farage. • @gallaghim
      @gallaghim 7 лет назад +4

      I think the thing that started my disapproval (for want of a better word..) with John Lydon was his attitude towards Joe Strummer with his death. I'm not saying they had to get along but he still had some (complete horseshit) venomous opinions of Joe when he died, and long after. Fast forward a number of years and he calls out the people taking pleasure in Margaret Thatcher's death as "cowards" and stating that an enemy is life is not an enemy in death (why? if you hated someone in life why are they suddenly exempt from that when they die? just move on) and such like. He also 'paid tribute' to Malcolm McLaren, a person who went out of his way to disrupt & make life hard for John. I'd love to see a journalist ask him why it's okay to slag off Joe Strummer yet have the opinion that you shouldn't hold a grudge once someone is dead... He's the coward.

      Its tough since he cleaned up from drugs, booze, thieving, and peeping. You gotta at least let him have his pies! Also, in his book, he explains he was an exercise junkie (first with weights and 'roids, later some some fucking thing with stationary bikes), but then he got hurt from it. The meds left him bloated... w/o exercise all he has to "fill the hole" is music, the occasional "bird" ...and pies. Pies ARE healthier than smack no? Just take some cholesterol pills or whatever, he'll be all right.

      In the book, Steve describes addictive "peeping Tom" Voyeuristic behavior. They touch on it in this interview. I'm surprised they didn't delve into SJ's libido, I would think that was up their alley.

      +Cheetah Thunders. I hope he wasn't spying on people without consent...

      Sure he was. Steve had been arrested 13 times by the time of the Pistols' 1978 US tour. Peeping was part of that, although when caught he would claim his purpose for being where he wasn't supposed to was stealing (another favorite hobby/addiction), since that was less embarrassing to admit. He even spied on other members of the band- he describes being out on a ledge on the 5th floor of a hotel to observe bassist Glen Matlock in intimate moments with a woman. His sexual deviancy stems (in all likelihood) from the molestation incidents he endured as a kid.

    Anybody that says they "read" a book and later admit they listened to the book are, in this particular instance, lowering themself to the Baba Booey level of intelligence...

      To be fair, Jonesy has read one book in his life - Junky by William Burroughs. He only listens to books, if he picks one at all

    Pistols with Jones and Paul Cook and a bass player (Matlock was perfectly good enough) could've had any fucking singer and would have been amazing. Rotten was tone deaf but had power but without his arsehole attitude they would have carried on and been better longer.

      Without Lydon there would have been no "God Save the Queen" and "Anarchy in the UK". Post-Lydon, the Pistols (Jones and Cook) did stuff like "Lonely Boy".
