It seems like Ian never really did as many interviews as Billy has over the years, so I'm always happy to see how forthright, interesting, and well spoken he is. Great interview.
The true Ian interview. He is comfortable with his friend. I love what is shared here. Watch it all.
Ian....thank you for taking the time to connect to us all with this interview...We love you. Life long fan since Dreamtime & before...x.
This man is solid as a human. It shows in his lyrics. Very deep.
One of the very best of our British rock bands. They are absolutely classic and have never put out a duff album. I cannot wait for the new one.
Great until they became all Americana and bloated on the booze.
Duff albums - er YES. I love them, but …… “Beyong Good & Evil”, “Born into this”, “Choice of Weapon” - Shite, and they were Shite live too. I was there…… Hope the next one is better than the last one, what was it ? “Hidden City” just about OK……
@@madamedellaporte4214 That is true. 1993. They did move away from that though, to be fair. The self-titled 1994 album is superb!
A great British rock band, the pride of Britain.
Saw him on the Doors tour in 03 but never knew much about him before seeing this. Wow what a bright and incitive sophisticated guy he is. Will start discovering his works. Very spiritual guy with reverence for his elders in music history. Very impressive.
The Cult always did their own thing and have always produced good music
Very pleased that ian appears healthy and his voice in concert is fantastic ! keep yourself alive!! -Queen. You and Duffy make a big difference with the music and performance you put out to the world and we all our better for it
"Very pleased that Ian appears healthy "
The guy looks like death warmed up , he's two years older than me @ 58
The passage of years and copious amounts of drink and drugs now show!!
Ian doesn't follow. He leads. Solid interview.Been following since Death Cult days and always excited to see the art they create.
What an incredible person/artist.
I dont watch too many artist interviews as there usually isn't the depth that holds me, but this was such a treat for me to hear Ian speak. Great job with delving deep with the questions.
I'm a true fan and so inspired Ian and the cult. Class act saw them live when GNR opened for them. It was a life changer. Much respect and love to Ian.
I'm a fan, 55 years old now. I'm an Electric fan..seen you live (YOW) with Lenny (Blew me away)... I still follow both to this day!
I grew up in Heswall Merseyside same as Ian, I went to Leeds University 81-84 and saw Southern Death Cult and Theatre of Hate at nearby Wakefield…. saw Death Cult last week in Liverpool and they were magnificent !
Brilliant interview! I could listen to Ian all night long! Fascinating man! I would love to sit with him sometime and talk about music and books and art. I adore Ian ❤ 😍 thank you so much for posting 👍
Right? It never ceases to amaze me how educated and well read he is!
Ian is incredibly deep. Fascinating interview.
Its always refreshing to find a rock star who is intelligent and articulate.
Where ?
Had the biggest crush on this beautiful man and his long black hair in the day. The Cult is iconic & Ian is one of a kind. Great interview!!
I have literally adored Ian for 35 years and he still looks and sounds amazing 😍🥵.
The light show in Philly was awesome. I really appreciated they did not use the ugly LEDs and I took lots of photos and video of the excellent lights and performances. THANK you Ian for that tour. I saw you in DC was it 87 or around that time and treasure both shows. Bless!
“Awesome Interview Scott” Iv’e met Ian he’s Real, possesses high intelect, And has one of the greatest voices in Rock. Billy is the riff master I used to see him around in LA and at NAMM shows he’s always been cool. “KUDOS” Gents on the NEW Album”
I definitely remember the Bauhaus tour (Leeds) and supporting Killing Joke. Got sandwiched in a car once with Ian and Wayne Hussey when he was in Dead Or Alive. We all loved the Antz and Crass, we were all skint, tough times!
Mr.Ian Astbury! Wise soul and great magician! Under The Midnight Sun
This man is an icon…
Really interesting, and I love at the end when you say you're going to be looking stuff up, I was during the podcast. Ian always has 15 things to share that I want to delve more into. He has me reading multiple books at once... lol
Thanks a lot! The Cult Forever!
I saw Ian tour w the Doors and he was amazing. One of the best shows I’ve seen. Ofc, I grew up on The Cult also.
Love interviews that sound more like conversations and when the interviewer allows the subject to speak. Great interview. #CFFC
Thanks Ian for coming back again!
Great interview ! Big fan here
Thanks Ian & Scott
Great interview and look forward to seeing The Cult on the 2022 Tour. Ian as always is On and offered great information in this interview. Thank You Lipps Service !
ian does smile a lot when he is in a relaxed conversation with friends, like scott lipps and steve jones, innit. great interview
Another fascinating interview! Once again , I'm captivated and mesmerized! Wanting to hear more!
Great Q&A session with Ian. I was really happy to see The Cult again just a couple of days ago in Houston. Glad you visited Rothko Chapel while you were here. Just bought the new album on vinyl whilst watching this. Thanks!!!
The Cult were amazing in Dublin a couple of weeks ago...still have the energy.
Fabulous interview.
What a great interview. Scott, you are really good! very conversational~brought out some good stuff from Ian. Nice!
I had tickets twice to The Doors of 21c. Both shows got cancelled. 😭. But I was lucky enough to see The Cult in Desmoines last week. Great show guys. Thanks for coming to Iowa.
I was at the 1st show in st pete fl at mahaffey theater. What a great show! I knew then was going to b great tour. Thanks for the tunes
i just seen there show in winnipeg ! the show was a blast for 60 years old man wow cool show ! 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Cool interview, Ian Astbury has always been a mystery to me. Nice to hear a little bit about his journey
He is a mysterious guy, or at least he maintains that image.
It was a good interview, no bragging about the exploits, just talks about his development as a musician. It all comes down to what’s pressed onto the vinyl
Was there for that show. Was awesome!
Fantastic interview. You asked all the questions on the subjects I wanted to hear about and dug deep. Ian looks more like a Medicine Man as he gets older, so centered and wise. There's such a genuine peaceful strength about him these days. I feel so blessed that I got to see him with both The Cult and the Doors of the 21st Century twice!
He did an amazing job fronting D21C! ❤
Both of these guys are just bloody fantastic. They really are I love good good interview I love it so much I live for it thank you guys. I’m definitely gonna subscribe to this channel.
Fantastic talk! I could listen to Ian talk all day long. I always come away with something new & enlightened.
Absolutely looking forward to “Under The Midnight Sun”
CFFC 🙌🏼
Thank you! Muito obrigado!
the cult its a very very special band for me for many reasons, its an honour be able to have them rocking after 30 years from the first time i listen, the song was medecin train and it changed my life i was a rock fucking lover kid after that
Mushrooms are not drugs lol! Great interview Ian is a wonderful man. Happy to have jammed with him in SOHO NYC!
Ian Astbury is my biggest influence as a vocalist. Been Backstage a few times at Cult concerts. But he isn't really into the whole meet and greet thing with the fans. As per Billy Duffy. Maybe he's changed as of late.Saw him with the Doors in West Palm Beach, amazing show he was possesed by Jim, he totally just transformed into him. It was surreal.Hopefully one day. Amazing interview though, thank you!!!Love the new material...;€
It was great at the Doors show when he started pulling people up on stage.
ROCK and ROLL Intellectual Interview.👍
Great interview.
Thanks for a great interview. Ian is very interesting i've been a fan of him for over 30 years 🙏
Those early rehearsals in the basements in Bradford?
We were there!
@@Thirdfish🤘🙌
Great interview...
I've met Ian a couple of times, both encounters quite brief he'd never remember them, but I'd like to report that both times he was extremely polite and courteous
AWESOME SHOW in Chandler, Arizona 🤘🤘🤘🤘
New model army! Hell yea Ian! You should do a cover of an NMA song.
Very intersting guy and a good listen........
Great interview
TBH - huge respect to Ian here... pick a subject.. he know's his onions!! A well researched dude.. he's not wrong about the lead times on vinyl production....
Can't believe how good "Midnight Sun" is. The band was wise to embrace a new maturity, a subtlety and stately grandeur befitting their status as veterans of the scene. So much better than forever spitting out the same old thing like AC/DC or Mötley Crüe.
Very nice interview. He should come to North Norway and Play a concert under the midnight sun at one of the Sami-peoples music festival:)
Ian, run away with me? You are my hero.
Rock sage. 🔥❤️🔥
Nice scott 🤘🏻 legend!
Buena intrevista! 😀
@50:18 GIVE ME MERCY 💖 Here is some insight into the video & lyrics 💖
there’s a lot to like about the cult ian is a great vocalist and a top bloke to boot i am also a big supporter of billy duffy as a top notch guitarist
I can do identify with Ian, growing up and listening to different genre of music
so great hearing Ian not just promoting an album in a short form interview...great singer, frontman, and overall cool dude
He was amazing with Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek.Glad i saw them several times...
Top man.
Southern death cult had some great songs. Love those albums
Fantastic interviewer Dan probably one of the best just relaxed knows his shit dude and I’m getting such a respect for the cult. I went back and watched his videos man the way explained playing with the doors blew my fucking mind I met two of the doors I met John Densmore, Robby Krieger
He mentions band from Africa Mdou Moctar, saw them few years ago. Great band and music.
Right? I love them....have no idea how I found their music but....here we are. I would enjoy watching Ian reacting to MM.
It would be interesting if Ian would do collab with Hawkwind if there still going. I bet he could really get into D&D space rock. Was at the laser show gig years ago and it was amazing.
He lived.in my Hometown of Heswall on Merseyside, usedto.go.to Eric's (legendary punk club) in Liverpool under 21s shows on a Sat. afternoon.
He should be on the mt.rushmore of rock . .....GREAT GREAT SINGER.
I love the guy. No idea what's up with the Russell Means look ( no, I'm not Native but I'm pretty well versed in Native American culture as I represented the people for years, hundreds of cases legally Pro Bono.) The people appreciate Ian's compliments/tributes to the people- no man, I'm not exactly stomping out fires but just come experience ceremony, inipi and pray at Wounded Knee. I am in WV now but going back for Sundance when called. I would be honored if you were- kind of like a second. There are many things I don't know and learning by fire. It's very cool you lyrically mention Wounded Knee but that's my spiritual place. I'm white not a tribal member but expect my ashes to meet the wind there. For what it's worth- I know Scott Weiland first hand, and Billy Idol had some distain performing with the Doors. It's true.
I think he means Christopher Isherwood - Goodbye to Berlin (I Am A Camera was a play adapted from the book). (22:38)
This is a totally nerdy guitar point, but M'Dou Moctar (who Ian mentions) is probably the first artist I've seen pushing a Roland Jazz Chorus 120 amp hard since I saw the Cult on the Electric tour in 1987! M'Dou Moctar runs his with a cranked Fender Twin loud, and that's his guitar sound - Roland+Twin. I don't know if Billy still uses his JC 120, bit I'm sure that was in his Love/Electric rig along with a Vox and/or Marshall maybe?
I wonder where in Canada✌🍁
Lifetime Peace Love.
❤❤❤🙏
Spear of Destiny is a great band.
Great interview with a solid human being! Can anyone tell me the name of the band he mentions that both him and Scott like? The one they saw live? I'd like to check them out. CFFC!
They talk a lot of bands. What time slot? Around 27:00 they mention Idles ,that they both like.
Scrolling through the comments for this question.. was wondering myself
I was going to say saw the cult outdoors SA Tx …with GNR opening…we were like who is this band ?
Dude rulz!!
Ho by the way...the last album is FUCKING AMAZING, im going to be hinest, i wasnt excpeting a masterpiece like this one i f...love it
what Stones doc is he talking about with Charlie Watts?
Fun fact: TMZ appear to have lifted the footage of the DC chokehold incident Ian discusses in this interview, from footage I captured here: ruclips.net/video/qzqBBBDpz5k/видео.html
I wish all their albums past Ceremony weren't recorded so loud. Tough to listen to when everything blares at you even though the volume knob is barely moved up.
Intense. Cool though.
QUESTION. WHY not wrote new material together with the doors members ??????????
So knowledgeable about all aspects of culture, not just music. Ian can get a bit pretentious at times, but with that kind of passion shining through everything he does, I'll pretty much forgive anything.
Nice rug.
epic
Uncle Chief Bear 🐻 😅
Ian is God
Bradford….North west of Leeds not south. Thats Wakefield/Sheffield
