This is one of the most lovely and thoughtful interviews I have seen in some time. Thank you very much for sharing the time you spent together. I recently discovered your presence on the internet through another channel in which you presented a thoughtful biography of my favorite composer - Tarrega. It very nearly brought me to tears, especially in the last three or four minutes of that episode in which you eloquently described the sensation many of us feel when playing his music. It resonated quite deeply with me, as I have often imagined I am having an intimate conversation with him while playing, sometimes quite slowly, Lagrima, Adelita, a prelude, or even one of his etudes. Apologies for the length of this comment, but finding your channel, your music, and an interview like this is truly wonderful and inspiring. Cheers to you and Mr. May from the U.S.

The guitar section was so precious I cried to his reaction to u playing the guitar and seeing him play love of my life❤ I’m 13 and love Queen with my whole heart. Ive been a hugeee Queen fan for 4 years now and I was so happy when I went to see Queen and Adam lambert in October and I could not contain my excitement and I cried the whole way through the concert I was so happy and grateful to experience this concert and when bri sang love of my life with Freddie it made me cry a whole lot I was still crying even after the concert. I was a Queen fan at 17- my first ever single was It's A Kind Of Magic. I'm 55 now and hindsight says that without the music of Queen life would have been so much harder to navigate - this magnificent group helped with the down times and celebrate the good times. I wish you every happiness and can assure you that in your music choice at least... you're on the right track! 😀

Thank you Rosie, without your interview with Brian I would never have found your music. The interview is just wonderful and just shows everything about this man that's made him an inspiration in my life since I was a teenager (now 52). His passion for music, his honesty about the loneliness of being an only child, his self-doubt in the face of being widely regarded with such esteem continues to give a template on how to deal with life and even after almost 40 years of his music being in my life I still learn something new..and one of those things this time is your music which I will be diving 'headlong' into (forgive the totally intended pun).

It's so refreshing to see someone as respected as Brian May being interviewed as a real person. 99% of musicians interviewed are asked about their guitars, amps, pedals, set up, etc., but you, Rosie, have shown Sir Brian / Dr. May as a person, & as such we have seen a very interesting insight into his character. 5:57 I would argue that there’s a difference between sampling in music or using a photo as a reference for your hand drawing or being influenced by your heroes and favorite artists, compared to a graphic artist taking a photo to use in a project, refusing to cite sources (does not say “original photo by x”) and then telling people that their graphic design is drawn by hand.
I think there’s a lack of attribution and transparency there that isn’t honest.
Also, the imposter syndrome! I had to laugh at Sir Dr. Brian May saying, “maybe they don’t know who I am, and if they do, doesn’t mean they care.” With all due respect, Sir Dr., you’re 6 feet 3 inches of long legs and ethereal, perfectly defined curls. You couldn’t be inconspicuous if you tried. ❤️
Rosie, thank you so much for such an unfiltered, genuine hour of conversation and just… visiting Brian at Allerton Hill. All the little details and extra bits left in, like helping move the setup, answering a phone call from Anita, that slice of life stuff drives the point home that Brian made during the interview - “we’re all human.”

Definitely! Especially as the internet continues to make the world expand at a crazy rate I think there will be a lot of need for the clear distinctions between all of these things in the future and not only what constitutes a copy, but also what that means regards sharing and rights etc. the only things I'm sure of is that there will be big changes in how we approach intellectual property in the next few years!
Thanks so much for listening and for your comments, it was a toss up on whether or not to leave those bits in, I hope it made it all feel as intimate as the whole experience was for me!

Back in 1989, it was a Sunday afternoon, it was sunny outside, and i was hanging around in the local corner shop (a news-agents that sold magazines, sweats, food, and had a couple of Arcade games to play). The only people in the shop, were myself and the owner, Mick. In what has become the most surreal moment of my life, in walked Brian May. I kid you not, Brian May of Queen was in the shop. Brian purchased a couple of items and left. I noticed outside was a red Mercedes, possibly a 190E, which were quite popular at the time. Once Brian was out the shop, me and Mick were like 'that was Brain May!..'. I walked home, i mentioned to my sister 'guess who was in Mick's?'. I told her it was Brian May of Queen. My sister replied, in a somewhat downplayed type of tone 'they (Queen) are filming in the area'. The area was Lightwater, Surrey, UK. To this day, i have no idea what they were filming? ..i assumed a music video. Having watched every Queen music video, i cannot associated any of them with Lightwater or the surrounding areas?

LOVE Brian! As for AI, one hugely crucial element that is missing in the whole debate RE creating music is that AI will never have a spirit, nor a soul, nor human connection, nor human memories, nor human feelings. Without those elements which form the pillars of music creation, AI will always remain a poor, artificial imitation that is akin to a winter garden filled with artificial plants. Top interview Rosie!

Also the big issue about AI is that it's trained on artworks (and music) that got stolen, taken without permission from artists and used by AI companies to make money. Brian seems confused on the matter, confusing AI's plagiarism with the human brain's process of being inspired by others and re-elaborating it to create something new. Artists, writers, and actors are currently fighting against AI because their art and works got stolen for profit, and hidden behind the "inspiration" excuse by the AI companies.

    • @thetruthchannel349
      @thetruthchannel349 9 месяцев назад +1

@@eileencrys Ya you're right. And it will be years before Legislation catches up. In the US there are only a handful of states that grant you permission to have commercial ownership over your person in case someone uses your image or your voice or you likeness. AI simply cannibalizes. The current state of AI it's ability 'to learn' is very limited. That kind of AI probably exists at some level but its not being given to the public & I doubt it ever will. The AI we have been given access to is like a computer child with some kind of learning dysfunction that limits how far it can go. ChatGPT is to get people used to the idea of interacting with AI instead of humans. We're a long way away from the kind of AI that learns the way humans do & we're not even sure how humans do learn. Consciousness is beyond our ability to confine or measure. It doesn't live in the brain. Its 'something' beyond. I think at some point the disappointment with AI's ability to 'think' will be the justification of human modification in order to add our Consciousness to it's unlimited ability to sift data. I think that's where the real trouble begins.

For me, the great thing about songwriters is being able to follow their journey from obscure young musicians to successful and often prolific writers of great songs. It matters, to me, that the song is written by a human being that I can connect with and seeing his or her style develop. The song means more knowing the songwriter and that the song came from within, rather than from a soulless computer.

As much as I love and appreciate the song writing talents of all four original members of Queen, I feel that many people who only know their music from their greatest hits may not know some of the most beautiful songs-melody, chords, lyrics-that Queen recorded, especially on their first six albums were written by Brian. Even Brian’s Wiki page doesn’t mention all his compositions, including gems like “White Queen (As It Began)”, “Dear Friends”, “Long Away”, “Teo Torriate”, “Leaving Home Ain’t Easy”, and (with Fred) “Is This the World We Created “.
Along with his virtuosic arranging and orchestration skills, his tender and soulful vocals, and his kick-butt guitar playing, his songs bear the hallmarks of a mature musician who showed a sophistication from the very start.
Brilliant human being he is. And Rosie is a delightful sublime interviewer!

That was the most heart -warming and touching interview with Brian I've ever seen. I feel as though I've really got to know Brian a little and what makes him tick. Queen have always been the most massive influence on my life - Freddie taught me to sing (vicariously) and Brian, of course, was one of the inspirations for me taking up luthiery and starting to build guitars. I have some of my guitars here at home, just like the little home-build guitar that Brian had there in the interview that he and his Dad built. He obviously keeps it there just to mess about on and practice and jam etc, just like mine. But unlike my guitar that guitar has toured the world multiple times and been featured on dozens and dozens of trailblazing songs. That just blows my mind.
The renditions at the end were fabulous. "love of my Life" was beautiful. Of course I had to provide Freddie's voice myself here at home, while I wiped away a tear.
    Fantastic work.

I think he's spot on and I'm only 9 minutes in. Terry Gilliam of Monty Python was looking through a book of painting or something and came across, Bronzino's Mannerist; An Allegory with Venus and Cupid. The thing that stood out the most in the painting to him was the foot. Yes the foot, which became a Monty Python symbol. Ironically while playing around with text to image AI I started getting the foot myself. I'm totally fascinated by text to image AI(sans the censor)and find it inspiring. I'm like a lot of musicians/songwriters, we see or hear something and then turn it into a song. Buddy Holly went to see John Wayne in the "Searchers". Wayne kept on saying "that'll be the day" anytime someone challenged him. Well Holly wrote the rock n' roll classic of the same name. I actually have no desire to use someone else's voice out side of just for a joke. Previous to my experimentation with AI(limited as it were)I was wrestling with the whole fair use doctrine. In concluding music publishing has become way too restrictive, I was reminded of how music publishing actually begun. Tin Pan Alley, it was literally an organized crime racket. Their sole purpose was to monopolize music. I further concluded that really the only thing that is unique is the human voice. It's like a fingerprint or a snowflake. It's singularly unique. What is being lost in the mad rat race of competition is we actually compete against ourselves. That is to say what we create comes from within. We are sponges that leak creativity and creativity should not be en$laved, it should be encouraged.

I have really enjoyed watching this interview! You are lovely and Brian is such a great human being and human doing! I've always been a big fan of queen and I think this interview is amazing, not only because it is very interesting but also because it's different! You've spoken about many interesting things like AI, Brian's childhood and parenthood... and a beautiful ending with two pieces of my favourite composers: Confesión (Agustín Barrios) and Love of my life (Queen). Simply beautiful!

There‘s always a huuuuge difference between reporters doing interviews and musicians talking to each other. And then there is obviously another level when two people connect and share a lot of things. And - at least I believe - even non-musicians get a lot more out of such encounters. Even when they‘re not as beautifully „wrapped up“ as this one. 😊🎸

Excellent interview, Rosie, thank you .Do you compose? if so, I could explain and fast track you and Brian through harmonic structures. Once you understand harmonic structures, i'ts like being in Paradise. I compose classical,, jazz, and pop music. They are all equally good once you use good harmonic structures.

Such an amazing video Brian is such a great accomplished man!! Above all in my opinion the best accomplishment is the guitarist for Queen, and he still going on!!!!! My question to you is before he and yourself agreed on this interview did you have to sign an agreement not to have questions about Freddie Mercury??
