I can't even imagine holding the the master tape to Bohemian Rhapsody in my hands. I think I'd forget to breath.
Thanks for being a supporter of my passion
Thankfully it sounds like the masters and the digital copies on hard disk still exist. Still having *the* master copy is amazing, how many copies of the CD, vinyl and download have been bought, also the radio play is incredible.
THE QUEEN EFFECT:
You listen in a state of wonder, smile in face, watery eyes, and a trembling heart... looking for someone to hug!
Brian’s voice has something of...relaxing
its kinda soothing
180MPH In The Wrong Lane yeah,it’s the classic type of “I’m your famous father that you never met” voice

@@Tom-py9vc now tht u mentioned i also kinda wondering the same 😂
John Deacon is so underrated
He really is the George Harrison of Queen
One of the best bass players and also such a great songwriter. He wrote another one bites the dust, I want to break free, your my best friend and other Queen songs
good comparison
Yep, an incredible player. Watch those early live shows of Queen and watch his right hand finger plucking technique. It was masterful. He and Roger Taylor were just an utter powerhouse of a rhythm section.
same with Roger Taylor.
5:59 without Brian's guitar it sounds completely different. I enjoy these doc segments where they isolate the tracks and show the level of production and arrangement that goes into recording.
Brian misses Freddie greatly....we all do....I am so pleased this attention is coming back around to this unmatchable group of genius musicians...bittersweet.....what a gift they were/are to this world
You see him pause every so on- you know he’s remembering Freddie & John. Especially as he listens to the piano. Again, complete geniuses, all of them.
An incredible look into the music of Queen. Freddie's piano- and when told by Brian May- unbelievable..#Freddie's piano Each member had a big talent when it came to their music--I have watched Freddie's piano many times and Brian just summed up what I couldn't find the words for-starting with how he holds his hands on the keyboard. Its years later and people still are trying to figure out what Bohemian Rhapsody means--Only Freddie will ever truly know. #Freddie's first symphony
I absolutely loved watching this broken down. Queen and Freddie Forever!
you are beautiful 😍
Freddie's doodles, holy molly, Freddie's very own hand ,scrawled those writings, Verified by Brian May. And that paper of Freddie's doodlings, was filled with Freddie's handwriting, and it was creating ,writing down ideas to one of the most iconic songs in rock music history. Triple whammy jackpot. That is a very important piece of Rock n Roll history .
And doubt ,it is worth merely a fortune , as Brian says, many will kill or give few fortunes to have it.
Although ,think it's value is beyond measure of money but it's much more important, Significant to history of rock music.
Roy Thomas Baker wrote down all of the instruments for each track.
All musicians should learn from this, the fact that that we went from this masterpiece to Sicko Mode is sad. Queen is amazing
Thanks Brian! Love this so intimate breakdown and reminiscing of the making of Bohemian. Love your call out to John Lennon and the Beatles who paved the way for you and your mates crafting this masterpiece! Bravo to you and your band mates. And you are also so humble and never full of yourself.
I love his face when he listen the Galileo part
You can see the nostalgia on Brian's face.
He does play piano like a drummer though. It’s a great analogy. The accuracy of the timing , and the consistency of the pacing is astounding. Considering it’s a live performance, from start to finish. No cuts. Backing track was all played in one single take
Thank you Brian, I know nothing about music, couldnt carry a tune in a bucket, your explanation of just some of the wonderful details of this piece of art made me sit and watch with pure amazement. I still believe this song is so different, that there is no "time" for it to be classified into. It is so different, that it will never be "old", because of its use of so many different "types" of music, and the genius of you three, to make what was in Freddys head come to life truly makes this song greater than the sum of its parts. Your description, eludes to the fondness you had, not only for this music, but for Roger, John and Freddy being able to make it with you as well. Thank you for your humility, your honesty, and just being Brian May, an inspirational human being in the music world, and life in general. I grew up listening to "Queens" music, bought every album as they came out from when I got my first job, and still love your music today, sharing it with my son... the movie is right when Freddie says "we are all legends"...
You can just hear the respect Brian has for Freddie and Roger and their abilities! I absolutely loved Queen, from the get go, back when they were just a band who made great music! I love them even more so now because with all the documentaries they have become more than just a voice on a radio! They were all so very talented and together......well, you will never experience anything like Queen again. They had a majestic chemistry that will never be duplicated!
A brilliant man admiring a genius bohemian.
How did we get from this Masterpiece to Gucci Gang?!
Adiwidya Imam Rahayu exactly
the economies surrounding music production have been massively overhauled in the last 30 years, back then you wouldn't go through the trouble and cost of hiring a studio, mastering etc. unless you had really put in a lot of effort, now with the advent of midi sequencing, digtal audio workstations and advancement in home recording, along with the improvement in consumer-grade recording technology, almost anyone with a laptop and a microphone can record and entire album in their house, meaning that there isn't that much risk involved with recording if it isn't necessarily the best quality theoretically
Two different genres of music. I bet Gucci Gang is stuck in your head isn't it? That in and of itself is genius. Don't hate. Create.
You do realize most people in this generation judge past generations songs. Just like you do, just enjoy your music, and stop hating. 💯
THANK YOU! There will never be anything like Queen. The generation i grew up with doesn’t even appreciate the music Queen created. For me Queen’s music will always be unique and beautiful to listen to. Thank u Brian May for teaching us the work u all put into to create this masterpiece of a song. ❤️
The most beautiful piece of piano music in history

Orchestral colors, counterpoint. My respect grew even more
Drums, bass and piano sound so good on its own. Great song !!
Wow!!! Just speechless at this detailed information about how Bohemian Rhapsody got made. Solidified the fact that all of these guys (but especially Freddie) were musical geniuses.

At least you both got experience this song that came out in 1975 & that this song is one masterpiece of great work, and still today one of the top song in Queen. But I do miss Freddie too, even though I was born in 98 Honestly I never saw Queen live in concert, not even to this very day too, but Freddie will always be in our hearts.

I could stay here listening to Brian for hours
19:48 that’s a mood
As soon as I watched Bohemian Rhapsody I became obsessed with Queen and have been ever since
I've always thought that Freddie's lyrics were about a young man's testimonial to his mother that he had committed such a deadly crime that led him to his death sentence! And then his insight into how the young man viewed his utterly grave mistake! Ending with telling his mother to carry on! Carry on! MZ
I was fortune enough to see Brian May in Dublin In 1993.
My 1 wish was alway to see Queen which I never did.
But I so enjoy this 27:15 clip.
It was a privilege to watch how it was made.
Thank you Brian May

Thanks Queen for sharing all this!! (Y)
There's a tiny bit in the guitar (last part of the song), I thought they would talk about, but its Ok.. Overall, the Documentary is way more than most musicians do (and the song is way more than all musicians do, that's for sure). Thanks again.
This was really superb. Thank you
Poor Bryan he's sad . Freddy would be touched that millions of people still listen to their songs and they're legacy countinues
Thanks Freddie,
And yes, you can tell Brian misses Freddie Mercury alot. God bless u Brian.

All english (almost all I guess) musicians have one thing in common.. they all have relaxing voice
One day I’m gonna cover this song. And mark my words I will do it justice. After seeing how much work went into making this song, I have no intention to butcher this record.
Every time I see all these switches, I always have a feeling " Do they even get a chance to rotate? 🤔
My best friend introduced me to Queen, we were both 13 .
I still to this day feel Queen is the Greatest Band of all times, all of them. I had a chance to go see Queen in my Junior year, but I turned the person down, to go visit my friend, who lived in California, and if course I regret it now.
I have seen the movie and Rami Malek made Freddie Mercury proud. He was meant to be the one to be Freddie.
The person who helped with the vocals is Marc Martel, and he should be the one touring not Adam Lambert. I can understand Queen didn't want someone who sounded like Freddie, and it was probably out if love for him.
All I know is there is alittle bit of Freddie in Marc Martel.
Check him out...
Freddie, we love you.....💝
Fascinating!
HOW THE FUCK DID HE MAKE THE GUITAR DO THAT IM FLOORED. I thought it was chimes or something this whole time! Fucking genius!! I bet he could make that guitar get up and start talking if he wanted to.

"We were able to take things further than the Beatles because we had better technology and the benefit of their experience". The epitome of humility and class right there. Salute, Brian May!
I'm just glad he acknowledged the significance The Beatles had on their music.
The Fidget Spinner Movie I always looked at queen as zepplin and the Beatles lovechild
I thought the same thing!!
Class only works with those, who have the ear and taste to hear things Brian left unsaid: how much better musicians Queen were and how much better songs they wrote.
@@bukkaratsuppa6414 Better musicians? Perhaps. Better songs? I'm not at all sure that's true. But does it even matter? Both were absolutely brilliant.
Imagine the flashbacks Brian must be having listening to these tapes. Rip Freddie Mercury 🤝😔

I thought that too. You can also see it on his face. He exactly knows how they did it, oh how much I would give for memorys like he got it... But they all deserved it
What's utterly impressive is that this guy has not only heard but played this song a million times and you can see how it still mesmerizes him... just incredible.
I am guessing unless you remaster music you rarely go back to the master which every band should because as Brian pointed out, the tapes do not last forever
We all do, bro.
How proud he had/has to be to have been a part of this.
You are right! He's probably played this song 100's of times and you can see he is still proud and thrilled to break it down like this.

If Freddie was the heart of Queen, Brian was clearly the brain

Love this man. They rocked! There’s a sadness to him as he’s reminiscing. A bitter sweet feel. Beautifully sad.
Agreed, but I imagine he is seeing ghosts at that point. He would be so consumed with the thought of Freddie, the band the time. It would be unbelievable. Wish there was a good DOC on this band. I grew up with close minded parents and I knew Freddie was "special" so I wasn't exposed to this music. By my LORD!!! This band is unbelievable. And this song, is completely EPIC. There is nothing like it then or today.

its amazing to realize how complicated this song is and how much incredible amount of work went in to it. I bought that album in 1975, i was 13. I saw them 5 times in concert and they did this song perfect every time. Freddie was The Greatest Rock Singer of All Time.

he's not wrong. the parts do not take brilliant talent to perform. but layered and mixed right, they altogether make an incredibly complex whole.
Rylee Strange yeah i did something similar after watching this on my phone. You just have to be completely on time and in tune like he said or it sounds awful
You can't be serious. Freddies vocal range alone, not to mention the timing and complexity of the piano part without a click. This required superb musicianship.
Eh, that piano part is not particularly complex, fit for a beginner. But it is brilliant and beautiful.
If you want actual complex piano, have a listen to Liszt or Rachmaninoff, or even Chopin. Fantasie Impromptu is a good introduction I'd say.
After watching this video , every time I listen to Bohemian rhapsody I listen to each instrument / segment more carefully and appreciate each part even more !

He calls it a "black cloud"...that black cloud could be a figurative take on depression, which is not easy to get out of.

watching this reminds me how horrible todays popmusic is
Hello. You know, something I think... young people of the 70's and 80's used to listen to such good music, it was played on radios, discos, partys, everywhere. That was " popular ". In those days it had some ressistance, and criticism, but now... oh my god, now things are seriusly decaying. Young people, in different social and educative levels are used to listen to such crap. Pop music has gone downhill I think.
since tv shows like x factor and other copycats do excist it really went downwards, they dont have the talent to write music use instruments its all done by producers using patterns which do sell music and there is audience for that because they are brainless too its the world we live in and it all got hyped by todays radio djs

Yeah, it's sad to think that he didn't believe he was good at playing it and gave up playing it later in his life.
Even with just the Piano, you fill in the rest of the song in your head.
This song alone seems more complex than today's average album lmao
Because it is much more complex. Today many producers save time by capturing one good take and then duplicating that take onto another track, that is maybe panned differently, and with 20 to 40 ms of delay difference. The result may sound nearly perfect, but it's just too perfect. Especially when using additional tools such as Melodyne. With Melodyne, you can take one good vocal track and spend 10 to 15 minutes create a perfect 10 party harmony. Again way too perfect. Then its all further destroyed by making it too much on time and too much in key. Mistakes are the key to creating accidental magic. Perfection, and crappy songwriting users similar shortcuts is killing modern music.
Couldn’t agree more.
I agree too
It's more complex that just about anything ever created in popular music, except Zappa's work. It IS a symphony on it's own.
Tony I so agree with you, when I do my MIDI demo I do all kind of shit to fuck it up like vocal synth effect on drums and what not to make it sounds more human cause otherwise it's driving me nuts.
