You can't be serious. Freddies vocal range alone, not to mention the timing and complexity of the piano part without a click. This required superb musicianship.
Eh, that piano part is not particularly complex, fit for a beginner. But it is brilliant and beautiful. If you want actual complex piano, have a listen to Liszt or Rachmaninoff, or even Chopin. Fantasie Impromptu is a good introduction I'd say.
If Freddie was the heart of Queen, Brian was clearly the brain EDIT : damn, guys, I never thought my comment would get this many likes and comments. Thank you!!
Tunjung ...but without Deacon making the Deacy amp, they wouldn't have had the sound that was uniquely theirs... and of course, don't forget about Freddie's Tenacity, Musical Genius and Perfectionism! They were all "Brains" in their own way, which is why they made such a good team... Not many groups can claim that! :-)

Matt's Handpan Music I think it's a museum piece now? Brian said something in the beginning, it SHOULD be in a museum behind glass, that's gotta be worth SO much $$$!!!
Just an amazing documentary. Brian May's walkthrough on the song, with all these parts being isolated, is almost like DaVinci explaining each stroke of the Mona Lisa. Bohemian Rhapsody is not only a rock and roll classic, its one of the greatest pieces of music ever written, and the idea of it is so unique and "out there", that it is fascinating to watch and listen to the creation of it. Theres never been a song quite like it. Thank you so much for uploading this.
@@Nico6801 more than that. We never gonna get something with this caliber again ..ever. This is the type of music that no matter how advanced and technological the music has became, it still stands out by the great and well arranged vocal and musical performance.
Watching and listening to this video, one is in total awe of the complexity of arrangement and achievement in recording technology in order to make Bohemian Rhapsody a reality. But the real mind bender is knowing that Freddie heard all this in his head before the first note was even recorded to tape.
Looks like Isaac Newton, plays guitar like Brian May. Actually is Brian May and also actually holds the actual academic position once held by the actual Isaac Newton. WHAT.
This song is musical architecture. It's a sonic painting. What creative vision Freddie had!! Also, I never realized how often Freddie changes the tonal key center throughout the song. When the vocals are removed, it's much more apparent. He used the lead and harmony vocals to transition smoothly into new keys and back again. So with the vocals removed, the key changes come as much more of a surprise. Freddie had the soul of a classical composer. Had he been trained in classical composition from an early age, I'm sure he could have been a very good composer.
Janglee S he played a G# instead of the intended G... Luckily it isn’t a terribly dissonant sound and the piano in that section is all but drowned out by the opera and drums so they kept it in the track.
Honestly I had no idea the amount of work that went into this. I got that it was an intense song, but the double tracking and the choir style and cascading effects and layering - it's astounding. Geniuses, the lot of them. Makes me love the song that much more.
Queen in my mind is a supergroup where any of its members could of had a successful band by themselves but together they were a once in a lifetime experience
I have to agree so many genius songs my first experience with Queen was a great day and the song was Killer Queen and they had me at “Guaranteed to blow your mind “
@@catslay1253The ultimate band. You could literally make the argument that every member of Led Zeppelin was the greatest of all time, at their personal instrument or talent. Impossible to prove, and people can put a guy higher on their list, but literally everyone of those guys is top three at worst lol? Incredible.
Brian May is already a fantastic person. Coming from a person who advocates more for the furry friends. Finding out he's an animal rights activist is the icing on the cake. Each of them are SO brilliant and awesome. I respect them all.
5:59 without Brian's guitar it sounds completely different. I enjoy these doc segments where they isolate the tracks and show the level of production and arrangement that goes into recording.
I really think you can die peacefully after recording such a song. It feels like a troubled and rich and emotional life summed up in 6 minutes. Freddie wrote an opera for our modern era. God bless you, for ever and ever.
It's obvious how much respect Brian had for his friend Freddie & misses him badly. Freddie when in concert put on a show like no other, a legend in his own time! Can't wait for the movie that is being made about the band! Long overdue.
Bohemian Rhapsody is the best song ever composed in the history of music by a human. Freedy was a genius. Nobody except Freddy can create such masterpiece of song. I get goosebumps by listening to the songs notes
There's something about May, maybe the combination of ingeniuity and humility that makes him so lovable. He's so genuinly down to earth although he is part of rock and roll history and he knows it.
I grew up with Queen. Too bad it has taken this long for me to appreciate the true genius of the entire band. I can honestly say that I cannot listen to most of their songs without crying. Freddie was hauntingly beautiful...so many facets to him. I have come to see there there was a very spiritual side to him.
Don't worry about not appreciating the complexities of the production when you first listen to it. They wanted you to feel the end result without thinking about it; all the little touches were put there to get you closer to how you feel listening to it as a whole. I promise you that is how they wanted it.
Queen still the greatest band that ever existed! Thank you Brian, Roger, John and of course Freddie (RIP) for all filling my life with the most amazing art.
Brian misses Freddie greatly....we all do....I am so pleased this attention is coming back around to this unmatchable group of genius musicians...bittersweet.....what a gift they were/are to this world
One of the best bass players and also such a great songwriter. He wrote another one bites the dust, I want to break free, your my best friend and other Queen songs
Yep, an incredible player. Watch those early live shows of Queen and watch his right hand finger plucking technique. It was masterful. He and Roger Taylor were just an utter powerhouse of a rhythm section.
Beautiful and somber watching the memories flowing. Brian has intense moments of sadness when he pauses, just where does his mind and thoughts take him? Imagine of being a part of something so great.
music magic that no one can reproduce till this day. this is what making music is born of. pure singing and making sure each note brings out the other one.
It always amazed me how accurate their harmonies were all without the benefit of autotune. No one does that with that kind of natural precision any more.
+handidrummed no one does many things anymore.. the world isnt the same ...thanks to computers! we've lost the human touch in our intellectual persuit. we seek perfection by computers and in the process sound like one too in terms of mastering and recording ambiance: sparkly, no warmth, overdoes of synthetic frequencies to our ears
racheid77 when you track multiple parts and layer them like this its knows as 'multi-tracking', it has nothing to do with autotune, auto tune artificially corrects discrepancies in pitch in the recording of the performance.
In this case, layered multiple recordings are done to make the illusion of a big choir. In other cases Freddie used the double voice effect maybe because the effect he obtained was great. In conclusion it's not a matter of pitch or sound correction it is just true art.
Wow. Just wow. The song is already a masterpiece but when you hear it kind of "deconstructed" It makes it so much more amazing to appreciate all of the different elements and all of the work put into it. All of the harmonies are phenomenal and something of the heavens😇
This window into Brian May's thought process behind this song is a most fascinating look behind a rock classic . Thank you, truly! My appreciation of May's talent and skill is immense. The music he gave us! The music Queen gave us!
What a calming voice Brian has! I’ve always loved Queen, since I’ve grown up with them....but since watching Bohemian Rhapsody (the movie) there isn’t a day that goes by that I haven’t watched one or two, maybe even three videos of them and not having tears in my eyes. Freddie you are and will be forever missed....❤️
I was a huge Queen and Freddy Mercury Fan. I just loved Bohemian Rhapsody and still can't get enough. Not unlike Freddy I too arrived in the UK in my mid teens from India ( complete with the buck teeth) , but that is where the similarity ends ( LOL ). I am a big Brian May fan too. He is the archetypal English man , always fair , quite modest ( except with his Guitar skills on stage). In my own small way I owe my modest success in my chosen occupation to a fair minded English gentleman (like Brian May was to Freddy) who gave me my first break in engineering, beating the odds against other candidates from Cambridge and Imperial College London. Brian's sincerity, affection and loyalty to Freddy never ceases to amaze me, I am just as much a Brian May fan as I was of Freddy.

Try your best not to slander the use of auto-tune. Freddie happens to be the best singer in Rock history, so the use of auto-tune is non-essential. (If anything, Freddie is the walking auto-tune itself xD)

"It's all pretty simple" - Brian May
Like a good Physics/Science teacher
😂😂😂
he's not wrong. the parts do not take brilliant talent to perform. but layered and mixed right, they altogether make an incredibly complex whole.
Rylee Strange yeah i did something similar after watching this on my phone. You just have to be completely on time and in tune like he said or it sounds awful
If Freddie was the heart of Queen, Brian was clearly the brain
EDIT : damn, guys, I never thought my comment would get this many likes and comments. Thank you!!
Tunjung Utomo pun
Technically yes he was an astrophysicist lol
Tunjung ...but without Deacon making the Deacy amp, they wouldn't have had the
sound that was uniquely theirs... and of course, don't forget about Freddie's Tenacity,
Musical Genius and Perfectionism! They were all "Brains" in their own way,
which is why they made such a good team... Not many groups can claim that! :-)
Roger was the arms and legs and John was the torso
Um yeah, Brian May has a PhD as an Astrophysicist. No, that is not a joke!
I love this so much . Brian May is so talented and humble. We were so lucky to get to experience this band’s brilliance!
Brian was, is, and always will be such a gorgeous person inside and out, he’s so mesmerized by their music, and Freddie. This band was so loving towards what they did and each other.. you can just tell how passionate he is when he talks about the music, the style, the precision and Freddie himself. Wow wow wow. ❤️
Brian is so wholesome. Even his instagram posts are the most wholesome things I've ever seen, he's so sweet
Can you imagine just how valuable that master tape he's holding could be. That's THE song that millions and millions of people have heard throughout the years coming from that tape.
Matt's Handpan Music I think it's a museum piece now? Brian said something in the beginning, it SHOULD be in a museum behind glass, that's gotta be worth SO much $$$!!!
I got chills just looking at it
@@PeggyR70 You mean shivers down your spine?😉
The way it’s aching all the time?

Just an amazing documentary. Brian May's walkthrough on the song, with all these parts being isolated, is almost like DaVinci explaining each stroke of the Mona Lisa.
Bohemian Rhapsody is not only a rock and roll classic, its one of the greatest pieces of music ever written, and the idea of it is so unique and "out there", that it is fascinating to watch and listen to the creation of it.
Theres never been a song quite like it. Thank you so much for uploading this.
Damn no autotune...Thats what I call talent...real talent.
Isaac Pizarro (y) this is Masterpiece (y)
Do people really use autotune that much these days? I don't listen to a lot of current stuff, but I'm pretty sure it's not all like that

BLACK BEARD well of course they do, but outside of that?
@@Nico6801 more than that. We never gonna get something with
this caliber again ..ever.
I feel so privileged to be watching Brian explain the process of creation of the magnum opus. My god!
Likewise
Looks like Isaac Newton, plays guitar like Brian May. Actually is Brian May and also actually holds the actual academic position once held by the actual Isaac Newton. WHAT.
Maybe he was influenced by isaac Newton

This song is musical architecture. It's a sonic painting. What creative vision Freddie had!! Also, I never realized how often Freddie changes the tonal key center throughout the song. When the vocals are removed, it's much more apparent. He used the lead and harmony vocals to transition smoothly into new keys and back again. So with the vocals removed, the key changes come as much more of a surprise. Freddie had the soul of a classical composer. Had he been trained in classical composition from an early age, I'm sure he could have been a very good composer.
Great observation. You explained perfectly what I heard as well.
11:55 “this is where the song starts to grow”
Freddie’s voice fades in “/behind and face the truth !” My god how touching is that moment 😪😪
08:20 he really misses his brother ❤️
... they're not brothers... yes the band felt like family, but they weren't blood related... and Freddie is not white. DO YOUR RESEARCH!

I know right
Janglee S he played a G# instead of the intended G... Luckily it isn’t a terribly dissonant sound and the piano in that section is all but drowned out by the opera and drums so they kept it in the track.
Same
He played a single key of a chord wrong but it was masked well enough not to retake.
You can hear his voice in the instrumental tracks, that sort of vocal talent is unforgettable
so Fucking True
The first one he was singing the first few words to keep the others on track
Honestly I had no idea the amount of work that went into this. I got that it was an intense song, but the double tracking and the choir style and cascading effects and layering - it's astounding. Geniuses, the lot of them. Makes me love the song that much more.
Queen in my mind is a supergroup where any of its members could of had a successful band by themselves but together they were a once in a lifetime experience
alex ello i agree
I have to agree so many genius songs my first experience with Queen was a great day and the song was Killer Queen and they had me at “Guaranteed to blow your mind “
yea, similar to Led Zeppelin imo
@@catslay1253The ultimate band. You could literally make the argument that every member of Led Zeppelin was the greatest of all time, at their personal instrument or talent.
Impossible to prove, and people can put a guy higher on their list, but literally everyone of those guys is top three at worst lol?
Incredible.
I love Brian May commentaries. Makes me more appreciative as a fan of their work and skills.
Brian May's also brilliant in other ways, he finished his Doctorate in Astrophysics in 2007 😀 As well as an animal rights advocate.
Jigøku Shøjø bless his heart
Eh... being the guitar player for Queen is bigger than stuff.
I really love how Brian May speaks about his friend, with such a respect. Fantastic.
"We had the benefit of their experience". Wow! Just wow! Love it Brian!
mikelgravez nothing so Wow about that. Just the truth. It’s really a simple statement.
@@ghytgb It's a statement you don't hear that often.
I really think you can die peacefully after recording such a song. It feels like a troubled and rich and emotional life summed up in 6 minutes. Freddie wrote an opera for our modern era. God bless you, for ever and ever.
This was a privilege to watch. Thank you so much for sharing.
@BobbyG what?
It's obvious how much respect Brian had for his friend Freddie & misses him badly. Freddie when in concert put on a show like no other, a legend in his own time! Can't wait for the movie that is being made about the band! Long overdue.
Brian's respect for Freddie's musical talent, really shines through in this part.
"this is the man who wrote bohemian rhapsody......"
sir brian may, you are a guitar god, i salute you 👍
I could listen to brain may talk all day.

@@aarimrza he is the brain, Brain May
Bohemian Rhapsody is the best song ever composed in the history of music by a human.
You are so right!!
What an amazingly humble man. He speaks about Freddie so kindly too. Amazing guitarist, Brian May.

Queen still the greatest band that ever existed! Thank you Brian, Roger, John and of course Freddie (RIP) for all filling my life with the most amazing art.
Brian is such a gentleman. He highlights all the other musicians contributions and understates his own. We all know, however, no May, no Queen.
Brian misses Freddie greatly....we all do....I am so pleased this attention is coming back around to this unmatchable group of genius musicians...bittersweet.....what a gift they were/are to this world
Respect!!! Movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” leads to me here. This is amazing, feels like getting a private lesson from the legend.

In your head? Haha its impossible for me not to sing along out loud! I was on a train the other day and completely forgot where i was haha

zomeister yep
Really can any of us?
I think Brian May has the softest voice ever it makes me feel so safe, he seems so nice and sweet even now
John Deacon is so underrated
He really is the George Harrison of Queen
One of the best bass players and also such a great songwriter. He wrote another one bites the dust, I want to break free, your my best friend and other Queen songs
good comparison
Yep, an incredible player. Watch those early live shows of Queen and watch his right hand finger plucking technique. It was masterful. He and Roger Taylor were just an utter powerhouse of a rhythm section.
same with Roger Taylor.
Freddie barely being picked up in the beginning gives the backing track such a ghostly feel...gah it's beautiful
But let's talk about Deacy's sexy bass playing.
David Dobrik's flamethrower this is great music!!!! Don’t understand what they sing today .just trush
The Bob Ross of rock music.

“Let’s put a happy little guitar over here, and let’s give him a little friend. Everyone needs a friend.”
i commented that once under a bob ross post and everyone was angry lol

Totally!!
Queens use TONNES of multi tracking!
racheid77
when you track multiple parts and layer them like this its knows as 'multi-tracking', it has nothing to do with autotune, auto tune artificially corrects discrepancies in pitch in the recording of the performance.
no he didn't
In this case, layered multiple recordings are done to make the illusion of a big choir. In other cases Freddie used the double voice effect maybe because the effect he obtained was great. In conclusion it's not a matter of pitch or sound correction it is just true art.
Wow. Just wow. The song is already a masterpiece but when you hear it kind of "deconstructed" It makes it so much more amazing to appreciate all of the different elements and all of the work put into it. All of the harmonies are phenomenal and something of the heavens😇
Who else was singing along with just the instrumental?

This window into Brian May's thought process behind this song is a most fascinating look behind a rock classic . Thank you, truly!
My appreciation of May's talent and skill is immense. The music he gave us! The music Queen gave us!
brian’s smile when he heard freddie’s voice 🥺
Hes explaining the music as of hes building a house... literally brick by brick and every ounce of notes are all the mortar used. Hes incredibly humble and intelligent...
Genius in front of you explaining his legacy and history with one of the best rock groups ever!
No one has come close to Queen.
Legends way ahead of their time!

Buddy, that last line hit me hard.
It didn't change music. Have you heard any new music? It's crap. What he did was entertain the world is his own unique incomparable way.
Real singers, real musicians. No autotune, no synths. Quite a feat, especially back then.
Indeed
Nothing wrong with synths man.
Synth is just another instrument, some of the greatest songs of all time have synths in them.
>No autotune
>Quite a feat, especially back then
Yeah, it's so good that a band like Queen broke the mould of using autotune back then.
Try your best not to slander the use of auto-tune.
Freddie happens to be the best singer in Rock history, so the use of auto-tune is non-essential. (If anything, Freddie is the walking auto-tune itself xD)
To listen to and watch a legend describe the composition of one of the greatest rock songs ever written was absolutely fascinating. Carry on Dr. Brian May, carry on. (P.S. Brian May is one very humble, intelligent, and classy human being).
