    The MDA Labor Day Telethon was an enchanting yearly variety show that ran for half a century. Hosted for many years by Jerry Lewis, the telethon featured top stars from the world of music, comedy, and Broadway and was like no other show on earth.
    The telethon was created to help support the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which is leading the fight against muscular dystrophy. MDA dedicates itself to strength, independence and life. To learn more about MDA and to donate, please visit www.MDA.org.

      ​@@lonkss This sounds different compared to his later work because he implemented new vocal techniques and added a sort of edge and anger to his voice. It's just the vocal techniques that are different. His voice is fully adult here.

      @@renoparker2007 Well with anyone, your voice does get slightly deeper the more you age. But he's 16 here and every teenager has their adult voice by the time they're 14 to 16.

      If you watch closely you'll see mj jump and turn right out of the wires. That's how he incorporated them move in ALL HIS DANCING routines. The guys were rehearsing at home when Michael triped over A cord fell and broke his nose. That actually when he had his 1ST nose Job.

    This performance shows just how good Jackson was at working a crowd. This is a Las Vegas crowd in the 1970s, which was full, mostly of older people who probably wouldn’t be found at the Jackson 5. They actually had to work to get them clapping along and get them fired up, but that’s how good of a performer Jackson was.

    This is back during the times when MDA Telethon had awesome musical guests and comedians! I remember, as a teenager, staying up in the early hours of the morning not wanting to miss the talent! Love the Jackson 5!!

    I was a young teen then. In those days the Osmonds were the Jackson 5's main rivals. THE OSMONDS! LMAO! They Osmonds couldn't touch the J5! J5 was so much more talented than the Osmonds it was hilarious! If you put the 2 groups side by side in a "battle of the bands" type situation the J5 would have made the Osmonds look mentally impaired LOL.

      I was in love with Donny Osmond at 10 yrs old. I fell in love with "One Bad Apple". Didn't hear or appreciate the J5 back then until I fell in love with "Dancing Machine ".

      @Muzik Michael I understand they did two different genres of music, but they were both on the pop charts so the J5 considered them rivals in the sense of who could sell more albums, singles, and concert tickets and who could chart higher on Billboard.

    Were they in a hurry? Ha. The song is way too fast. IMO they never topped the original version. However, still a great performance.

      That is right there by MJ did not like doing television because his craft was not perfected on the television stage. Yes it was a good promo to get your music across at the time, but he decided to make longer videos and short films to get his albums promoted

    Great video, well, until the audience all starts clapping WRONG!!!! You're supposed to clap in beat not double clapping. A bunch of no rhythm white people. I am white too, but I have rhythm! lol
