These deleted scenes you’re posting are wonderful. It’s interesting that many of them got as far as having music score added, which suggests that they were deleted fairly late in the editing process -and very nearly made the final cut.
Yeah, these deleted scenes are killing me… some truly great stuff (performance, dialogue, timing, incremental camera push-in) that was left on the cutting room floor. Maybe TOS really needed 90 min per episode as they were actually trying to do a mini-movie every week…
I can see why this scene was deleted. Lenore's mention of Yeoman Rand not liking her. Janice Rand only has one scene in this episode, and a very brief scene as she get's off the turbolift and gives Lenore Karidian the evil eye. Blink and you might miss it. They were trying phase out Yeoman Rand as a romantic interest for Kirk, as this was Grace Lee Whitney's last episode, after she had been sexually harrassed and force to give in to one of the exects, she never did say who. This is in her book bio Amazing Grace. So they rewarded her by sacking her from the show. Interestingly she was promised by Roddenberry himself to be Kirk's Mrs Kitty to his Matt Dillion in space in the beginning of this show. By the way thanks so much for all these deleted scenes. It's amazing you can get these, you just drew me to subscribe to your channel.
Wonderful! Gentle love scenes like this one are somewhat rare across the entire series. The observant viewer will note that the vast majority of tender, soft voiced moments involving Kirk occur primarily in S1-this one, “Shore Leave”, “City on the Edge or Forever” and “Court Martial”.
It would've been nice to have stayed in but since we don't have a scene of Rand coming into the compartment between Kirk & Lenore entering the Observation Bay and Lenore referring to Rand having "just ledt" them,...it had to be cut. That explains cutting the Rand-related dialogue and rearranging the dialogue. I would've argued to keep the "Ceasar of the Stars,...etc" version we see here. The profession of love, the kiss and statement of it being "a performance."
This is awesome! So great to see some quality tv and acting! Star Trek is such a classic iconic show, thank you for sharing this will everyone! Can't wait to see more!!!! How can we support your efforts and time?
In a script rewrite Kirk could have said.. "Don't worry about Yeoman Rand not liking you..This is her last episode and she won't be back until The Motion Picture!..."
@andrewmacgregor8717 I was raised up buying the VHS releases as they came out and the Star Trek Compendium book. I will always go by the production order because of that. Balance of Terror episode9, Conscience of the King episode13..
In this case, i can see why this was shortened to what aired. It's too long and pulls you from the story. If a shuttle craft full of beautiful women docked in the shuttle bay, Kirk would get to all of them. 😮 Almost every episode he had a sweetie (man, I'm old). This episode's point was to bring the acting troop on board to find Kodos the Executioner. Not "The Dating Game." This would've stopped the episode in it's tracks. Great clip, sir. Keep 'em coming.
I think you missed the point of what Kirk was actually trying to do. He wasn't trying to romance Lenore. He was trying to determine if her father was indeed a mass murderer. 🌌🔭
I didn't miss the point. At this time in the episode he really had no clue that she had been removing her father's past witnesses. Notice later it became clearer that she was the possible suspect. Kirk still was wanting more concrete evidence that her father was Kodos. Of course, there was that song Riely was singing later. That drove anyone buggy. I see your point, but my reference was to his action could've been more constructive. She had a mental imbalance. She, too, was playing Kirk, for she knew Kirk was on her list to kill. She was curious of what he was up to.
Correct. The producers, directors of most Tos episodes were good at their job, ie editing down to the essentials most of the time, ending up with the Right balance
I don't remember the porthole in the final episode. Did they reframe the scene for some reason? They're supposed to be in the room overlooking the shuttle bay.
Yes, Commander. I believe they are supposed to be on The Observation Deck. I don't remember this porthole either. Will have to go back and check. Thank you for your excellent comments. 👍🖖
Yes the porthole was always there. There are also windows across from them that are supposed to be looking into the shuttle bay but are just blacked out..
⚘️ He's only pretending to romance her. He's playing her in order to be certain Anton Karidian is indeed Kodos the executioner. What the Hell else is he going to do? Come right out & ask Lenore if her daddy is a notorious mass murderer? "Lenore, is your father Kodos the executioner? 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ ~~Live Long & Prosper 🖖🏻 👽 🛸 ✨️ 🌌🔭

I just came across a few of your videos. Thanks for sharing these. This is great stuff.
yeoman Rand gave her the dirty look on the turbolift in the episode. Wonderful to get more details on that. This stuff is pure gold. Thank you🎉
TOS comes alive again! Thanks

Actually, no, it wasn't Janice Rand's last episode. Her last episode followed, The Balance Of Terror.

Watch out James, she's crazy as a loon!
The crazy ones always have THE best 🐈
These deleted scenes should be re-inserted in a new DVD release.
Yes, I am going to try to accomplish that, possibly in 2025, God willing. 👍🖖
