Well, You asked for a madman and here I am. I counted 3875 airplanes thrown in this run. But I have to admit my counting was very rough in some places, so I would say plus/minus 50. But somewhere around that. No, I'm not recounting just to be sure.
Underrated comment. I was considering it, recounting the amount of hahahahahas, from one of his rights w/ Dario. But I figured, hey, maybe someone already did it for me.
I think a glitchless all quests (1000% optional) run sounds like fun, though it'd definitely be one of the longest categories in PoR. Since there's a quest to have your money end in 777, a quest to spend all of your money, a quest to talk to Eric/Wind at either noon or midnight on the system clock, a quest to Master the Bible, Cross and Holy Water (which are all gotten from different quests), a quest to get all of Jonathan's Sub-Weapons, a quest to get all of Charlotte's Spells, a quest to kill Gergoth with a Blank Book (Charlotte's second weakest weapon, though only the killing blow matters), a quest to kill 3,000 enemies total, among a number of other quests.
Why not just switch to Charolette to dodge temptation? Less effort and since you don't have to worry about landing, you can switch and start attacking again. Might save a few fractions of a second AND it takes less effort, AND you can safely approach the boss through the hearts to set up more backdash canceling without requiring the full double jump. If you're close, you can jump it easy, but that first save split was from being too far away. Normally I wouldn't be so critical of a small mistake, but considering the type of run this is keeps you mostly at a distance, it seemed like a weirdly obvious thing you didn't even attempt.
I don't attend the streams but I've seen enough of his content to believe that it's a matter of pride, albeit a small one. Jupiter doesn't *need* Charlotte. He knows well enough that she's immune and it adds a bit more challenge and fun to the fight to get in close when temptation hits, which, typed out like that, I regret instantly. But Charlotte's offense is also banned, so at least that way you don't need to switch at all since the only issue is positioning. You already end up close from that dodge, so again, it's only fractions of a second, which ultimately don't matter. That said, he probably would've given up and used switch strats like you said if he failed it too many times. I've learned to fear this man when he says "I give up" in the face of any meme.
I've never played portrait, but I remember hearing JC talk on one of his videos about how in DoS some souls get an upgrade if you collect 9 of them. Maybe there's a similar mechanic in PoR with the skills(?)
PoR has a mastery mechanic where the more you use a subweapon the more exp it gets, and once you max it out and Master it said move gets stronger. Getting duplicates of a skill or subweapon gives a set amount of mastery exp, so buying 9 copies of a subweapon in the shop is to max out mastery and skip to making it as strong as possible right from the getgo.

How do you play Dawn/Portrait? is it an emulator program?
Look for Bizhawk. Is an emulator that you can use to play a lot of games from different consoles.
