IMO Switch Sports actually stacks up well compared to Wii Sports. For me, it's the fact that Wii Sports Resort existed with so much good content that made Switch Sports feel incredibly bland
Spocco Square just needed to be a Splatoon-like hub with some quaint places to get cosmetics and enter your chosen sport. That *alone* would have made Switch Sports feel at least a bit like a worthy successor to Wii Sports Resort’s Wuhu Island
I'm convinced that Mario 3D All-Stars was intended to be a collection of full-on remakes and other goodies, but it just couldn't happen with time constraints and complications with the pandemic. Just look at how much effort, care, detail and love has been put into new releases like the remakes of Mario RPG and Thousand Year Door. I really think 3DAS would have gotten the same treatment had the circumstances been better.
The excellent 3ds game "Super Mario 3d Land" was also not included and just like Mario Galaxy 2, it should've been on there. There no excuse for that imo
I mean, it does kinda edge BDSP out on the cheapness factor, looking like an actual PS2 game while BDSP at least had _some_ polish and in being a remake means it’s just Diamond/Pearl (which were already way better than Scarlet/Violet to begin with)

My biggest disappointment is Advance Wars Reboot Camp. They remade it with a toy aesthetic that makes it hard to differentiate the units, the online multiplayer options are very limited, you can't save the game in versus mode like the originals, its just plain slower than the originals since animations take longer, and Nintendo probably thinks no one wants a new game in the franchise even though its their fault for delaying the game over a year so most people canceled their preorders. Like you said, the game itself is still fun and worth recommending but it was a big disappointment for those few who love the franchise...rant over haha

To this day I still go back to the Mario Galaxy games on a regular basis and have 100%ed both games twice, but I just don't want to play Odyssey anymore

@@isaacvaldez7694 the most important is that in the remake collecting stars is just too easy, in the first one you had to figure how to beat the level without dying and in the fastest way possible, that is why there is the score system, it were removed and now doesn't matter how you play the level, only to beat it, wich is easy. second they removed the minigame after collecting the gift boxes. i don´t know why they just didn´t make the original difficulty and the new different modes, just made it easy and less challenging
@@mafw5572 That is true, I did notice that while playing the original, but at this point I think Nintendo is opting out of the score system in Mario games even tho it played a big role in the og MvDK. But I think the timer mode after you beat the whole game is the score “equivalent” for the remake. Playing that felt like the original with trying to figure out how to take the most optimal pathing in a short amount of time. Maybe they reduced the minigame after every level to once every couple of levels because it was harder to get a game over so you really didn’t need a bunch of lives and the remake’s minigame is more interactive but a variety would’ve been nice. Tbh a harder difficulty would’ve been nice especially for people who already played the og but for what its got I think its a pretty solid title and hopefully we get more MvDK games in the same style as this and DK ‘94
I agree with you regarding Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, in fact I think it would be near perfect if the graphics were a bit better (though I don't care too much about that) and the game ran better, it's a shame as that does drag it down a bit though I can still enjoy the game all the same and it doesn't change all the good stuff, it just would be better if those issues weren't there. The good thing is though Game Freak clearly know this and are taking more time to develop the games with Legends Z-A not releasing until sometime next year and Gen 10 not until 2026 which will make this the longest generation since Gen 4 (4 years instead of the traditional 3) which is what needs to be done as the games are getting more ambitious so they need more time! It's very good to see them addressing this issue!
With 3D All Stars the first game I played was Sunshine. I had a lot of great memories playing it on my GameCube. It became apparent that it did live up to my nostalgia. There’s a lot of gameplay issues that could be fixed with a complete ground up remake, so I’m disappointed they didn’t go this direction.

Mario strikers is one my favorite games on switch. I have over 1,300 hours into it! It might not be perfect but the gameplay is top notch so its still a blast with friends
I think it’s a great game and I don’t really get the hate. They did really flub the online imo. I wish there was a more definitive ranked mode of some kind to keep people coming back. (And 4v4 like what)
@@jdlockefeller the reason why a lot of hate on Mario Strikers was the lack of content for $60 game, even though they added more characters, gear, and stages. It lacks of single player campaign like story mode, and the only way to have fun is to play with friends and family.
@@jdlockefeller Mario Strikers on GameCube had more content like when you win the game you have to fight "Super Team", when you defeat it you unlock it, this game had stages that are very different and unique
Switch Sports allows you to challenge the previous Mii champions on every single versus sport. This includes Matt on chambara. These are every bit as challenging as they were back in the Wii Sports (Resort) days.
I rarely play Arms alone... But I play it all the time with my 8 year old Niece since she was 4. It's still a Fun game and I can just hope we get a sequel on the Switch 2.

@@GameGuy53 The motion controls were easy to understand for a 4 year old. I only bought the game because we played the Demo for 15 hours. And that demo has only the tutorial and the first fight availabe and still she had Fun with it. We have over 150 hours of play time with it. For an adult it has not enough content but for a child it's great.
Hey im one of those TWO ppl that has never pkayed a "Mario Party" game! Thanks for the shout out man! Heh also so xool thstcyiu mentioned the "Endless ocean" series. I still remember when i first got my Wii, my "non gamer" parents had went and bought me some games when Christmas came around that year. They did so well i couldn't believe it, "super mario galaxy", a bundle two pack of "No More Heroes" and "red steel" (i guess including it with the awesome No More Heroes was the only way to get anyone to buy that awful fitst red steel game 😂), Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and "Endless Ocean". I will never forget thinking about how well they did by only getting one "BAD" game. I was referring to "endless ocean" at the time. But...turns out it was the original "Red Steel" that was the laughably terrible one. "Endless Ocean" was unlike anything i had seen before. Such a unique experience and beautiful game, I absolutely loved it. Also turned out it was my mom who picked it out and insisted to my dad thst i would love it. I miss her so MUCH . Dammit...I didn't think i would end up in tears at the end of this comment. 😢
Wow, your parents really killed it! I remember getting the GameCube for Christmas and my first games weren’t quite as well regarded as the ones you got on the Wii (a Hotwheels game and Frogger, lol!), but I still have such fond memories of playing them with my parents. I wouldn't put all the 3rd party ports into the same bag, before Steam Deck came out, the idea of being able to play something like The Witcher 3 in handheld was pretty mindblowing. Sure it was ugly, and barely running, but it was playable, and you could take it with you everywhere. It doesn't feel all that special now, with Steam Deck and a dozen other handheld PCs being much better suited for these kind of games, but I still think it was the Switch that paved the way for actual AAA gaming on the go.

Tbh, all Pokemon were a disappointment" on Switch. I really love them all and had a blast with those games, but we basically have a Pokemon Go ad, barebones "safe sequel" game, a mediocre remake, one actually decent game and a buggy mess... I really do hope that Legends Z-A will be good

Yes, it was disappointing, if you were expecting Game Freak not to give you the cheapest game possible for the loyal fans to buy. But why would you have these expectations? If you were disappointed by the last Pokemon game, don't buy the next one! That's something Pokemon fans will sadly never learn.
The only disappointing game is Sw/Sh, the rest are all decent-great. Even Sw/Sh doesn’t have title of worst mainline game. We also have fun spinoffs on Switch, Unite is one of the most fun spinoffs in the entire franchise. Pokken DX is just better Pokken. New Snap is just better Snap. Mystery Dungeon isn’t great, but it’s not bad either… it has its audience.
@@minislayer3241 Wasted potential doesn’t mean the game is bad, it’s just not as good as it could be. The game is fine, and the modding community is turning it into the best 3D game to date. I have never understood the BDSP complaints and that isn’t any different now. Technical Issues I never saw will not change the fact that Scarlet and Violet are one of the best mainline titles in the franchise. The new story/open-world layout, the tera forms are the only good gimmick since Mega in 2013, the story and characters are actually good, the DLC rocked, and the actual models look good. Those games were great. Battles are actually fun again, competitive is no longer plagued by the dumbest mechanics this franchise has seen. If I did see those technical issues myself, I would take it from an 8.5 to a 7.5 which is about 3.5 points higher than Sw/Sh and about 6.5 points higher than ALL of the Gen 7 games.
I have to disagree with ARMS. It's a great game, Nintendo gave it the Splatoon treatment regarding updates and the online play worked perfectly. It is a lot of fun and did very well for a new IP. Sadly the community abandoned it.

Good point - I’m sure it wouldn’t be quite as simple as what they already offer. I would love for them to let us buy or download those individually - akin to what virtual console used to offer. Or maybe they could still build it in to the subscription service - just add in an additional download requirement for the games we want to play.
@@GameGuy53The NSO service is an awful and short-sighted idea. The Virtual Console let us buy these games individually and keep them on our console forever. But removing that option makes NSO a ticking time bomb. One day the service will be discontinued and all those games will probably be rendered unplayable. Nintendo will just wave all that money you spent on their subscription in your face and laugh.
For the switch 2 they could easily do that which is very cool, current emulators can cache an entire ISO into the RAM so once the switch has more RAM, there's streaming potential into the RAM there
Super Mario Party does kinda infuriate me to a degree. It was advertised as a return to form, but in reality it wasn't. Besides the lack of content, the economy and mechanics are so unbalanced that it makes winning feel so cheap and meaningless. I'm someone who grew up with the series, and Super Mario Party was such a huge disappointment for me. Not to mention, I HATED how there was no option for Pro Controller support and the game could only be played with a single Joy-Con.
Totally agree with the weird economy. I think participation coins are a little weird, takes away from the cut throat nature that made the original games so fun. Also, totally agree on pro controller support. I actually like the motion control mini games, but there’s enough that would still work with the pro that they should have given the option!
For me, Mario & Sonic at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games is a big disappointment. It kept some of the most hated things of Rio 2016, the guests. See, we have the same 20 character roster since Vancouver Winter Games 2010 and we actually finally got new characters since Rio 2016 but you can't play them in all events, they're exclusive to a select few events. And this is in Tokyo 2020, too. Not only that, they also got rid of the Mii characters, which basically gives you no other choice than this crippled roster. In Rio 2016, as much as this game sucked with it's tiny amount of events, the amount of outfits for Mii characters makes even Smash Ultimate look like a joke in comparison. The other disappointing thing is that while it has more events than Rio 2016 and brought Dream Events back, it's still not much and just on par with London 2012 for the Wii. And some events are only in 8-bit, which doesn't even look good.
Good video, although the Mario collection is not being scalped. You can’t select the auctions with high buyitnow prices and ignore the hundred selling for around msrp. It was notoriously overstocked.
Putting S/V here instead of Sword/Shield is a crime. S/V were great games and their DLC were great too. There’s almost nothing about Sw/Sh that I would come back to after completion. Hell, I didn’t even finish the DLC. Even the Let’s Go games were a better choice than S/V. I understand not picking them because they serve a different purpose and are catered toward a different audience.
Super mario trio was a disappointment because nintendo straight up price gauged on the lowest possible effort and then made it limited release so people would buy it before thinking.

Sorta? Unless I’m totally wrong, I think the main solo mode is akin to classic mode from Super Smash Bros where you pick a character and battle through several rounds. It drops little pieces of lore along the way. But it’s not too extensive.

That is true - Superstars helped scratch the itch a little bit, and I forgot to mention it in the vid. But I do think even in light of Superstars, SMP is a bit disappointing. Jamboree honestly looks like it’s gonna be awesome. I’m very excited for it!

I swear, everyone online seems to hate Switch Sports, but it sold 13 million copies, so I don't know where that disconnect between the digital and physical world is.
for me the biggest dissappointment was mario+rabbits sparks of hope, it didn't come close to the original when i played it for the first time, it's not a bad game but for one of my favourite games of all time i was hoping for more, the game trys to hard to be something else, it trys to hard to be M&L, galaxy 3, when it was just a little RPG with goofy characters, the story doesn't make to much sense, and there's just a bunch of little things i don't like, like the level system,

I agree with most of this but I have to disagree on Mario Party. If you are playing Mario Party for the board game, you are doing it wrong. I played only once, maybe twice each board and then never again. I have over 100h on the other LOT of content. There is a "dancing" movement based quick competetive 3 or 6 mini games, very cool. There is mariothon, where you play the minigames, then there is collaborative river dash and also some puzzle game also cooperative. With 4 people is a ton of fun, and content for at least 200h easily.
@@lasysk Interesting take! I can see it. I guess it didn’t occur to me to give as much credit to those modes because the people I play with never want to play them. We played few times and they just wanted to go back to the board game. Maybe I’ll push them to try the side modes again with me!
Probably the most disappointing switch game has gotta be Fashion Dreamer, at least for we style savvy players. I used to absolutely binge the style savvy series, especially the third 3ds game, and was thrilled when fashion dreamer was announced. I’m sure all the style savvy players shared my wish of a proper style savvy on switch… which sadly fashion dreamer isn’t. It has a surprising lack of actual content and completely butchers the gameplay of the previous games to total boredom. Played like two days and honestly stopped even caring.
I haven’t played any of those so I had no idea they butchered the switch version. Seems like some of the common themes from the video - like lack of content - are prevalent with Fashion Dreamer as well!
I am so glad you brought up Sports Story. I don't usually get my hopes super high for new game releases, but Sports Story was a rare exception for me. Needless to say, I was very disappointed
I'm now watching the rest of the video. And I'm sorry, but people were disappointed with 3D All Stars because the meaning of words is being lost on too many people. The games were remastered, hence them being in HD. That's what a remaster is. We had remasters for years like this and no one batted an eye. I'm going to use RE4 to illustrate as it covers all possibilities. The game was made for the Cube. Then it had to ports. One downgraded on the PS2 and an upgraded one on the Wii. But all in SD. All ports. Then the PS3 and 360 got the game remastered in HD (which was then released in a bunch of places, even the Switch). Then Capcom remade the game recently. As a bonus, the game even has a demake on the Zeebo. All bases covered. All clearly defined within the same game.
They did a terrible job with Sunshine to be fair, I will say that with confidence. They didn't disable the heat wave effect, so it becomes broken with their lazy upscale. A ton of Sunshine players using Dolphin emulator know to disable the heat wave effect when upscaling, paid developers for some reason couldn't figure that common knowledge out with this port
Nobody was really thinking much of 1, 2 Switch at launch… hell, I remember the majority of gaming commentators at the time shitting all over it. I’d hardly call it a “disappointment,” because people never expected much from it in the first place. Yeah, at 2:27 you explained it exactly with the sequel. Except… this was the exact same case with the first game! Nobody cared about 1, 2 Switch!
Pretty much all of Nintendo's sports games, and pokemon outside of legends arceus and new pokemon snap are dissapointing. But honestly, I believe that warioware move it was kinda dissapointing, and this is coming from someone who actually likes get it together. Move it is still a good game, but theres barely any side modes. And once I beat the game, I didn't feel the need to go back to it.

Pikmin 4 should’ve been here im sorry it’s a good game but I wanted more and it just didn’t make sense I loved pikmin 3 and waited 8 years for pikmin 4 and when it came out I expected more playing with my sister I was just a rock thrower and it was just sad I like watching other people play but the game is just isn’t as good as pikmin 4
Super Mario Party was a disappointment to us because of how long the animations took sometimes. You could play a 20 turn game on Mario Party Superstars in the time it took to do 10-15 turns on SMP..... Seriously the amount of time for Kamek to "sorcel" the board alone was a crime. The small boards with smaller dice numbers was pretty meh as well.
You’re right - a Switch Sports Resort would probably go super hard. Here’s to hoping they build upon Switch Sports rather than abandoning it for another 15 years!
Well damn, you named nearly every game on my own list as well! Super Mario Party, the Mario Sports games (especially Strikers) & their finish-it-later via "free" DLC model, and Pokemon Scarlet/Violet were huge disappointments. Pokemon specifically, I managed to get into it & complete the Pokedex, then pre-paid for the DLC. But by the time it released, I could not readjust to playing such a horrendous looking, poorly running game after spending most of my time gaming on PC. All the awful technical issues, empty world, SLOW combat, ugly presentation, etc. was noticeable from the beginning, but as I was mostly playing on Switch, it just felt like a really poor Switch game. But after spending a year playing almost exclusively on PC & going back to Scarlet, it looked like I went back to 2001, only with worse performance.
Oh wow, that’s awesome! I’m glad you’re a fan of the game. My personal favorite is volleyball, I feel like it has such a rhythm to it once you get into the zone.
I would have putted Mario Party Superstars and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booter Course Pass on this list if I was doing this video. Also I can agree with Super Mario 3D All-Stars in this video.
Have u never played a tag team Super Mario party match? That stuff is a complete different map for all four of them. I prefer it because it plays more like a chess game but def play it a good bit lol especially with a tag team partner. I would be super disappointed if they didn’t have something like that in Jamboree

Wow I forgot about Sports Story. Golf Story really was funny and interesting, and then Sports story, while taking a while to come out, did not deliver on the humor, and the soorts themselves were not as interesting as they could have benn.
Games aren’t “disappointments” just because they’re games were once popular fade into obscurity. They were popular for a reason. Unfortunately Arms had very little chance competing with Smash Bros. unless they kept releasing content alongside it, which we knew was unrealistic. Yes, I do wish Nintendo kept the game alive a lot longer, but much like Splatoon 2, it’s clear Nintendo didn’t aim for that game to last forever, as sad as that is.
That would have been a good pick - I think I could have said it was disappointing as soon as it was announced because I was hoping it would be remade closer to the style of the other Switch Pokemon titles.
Some more games that were disappointing for me personally: - Pokemon Sword & Shield (boring + unpolished. Only good part was the Wild Area) - Nintendo Labo variety kit (I think I was just too old to properly enjoy it) - Mario & Sonic at 2020 Olympics (the minigames felt awkward & story mode wasn't anything special) - Tears of the Kingdom (It's a good game but it had too much tedious content to the point where it felt overwhelming. The main adventure felt like doing BOTW all over again. I haven't finished it yet since I got a bit exhausted with the game, so pls don't spoil anything for me)
My son wanted 3D all stars last Christmas. I ended up paying over $200+ for hit on Amazon. Nintendo has turned into a backwards company that seems to want to destroy its history. 🤔🤔🤔🙄🙄🙄🙄
Wow - I’m sorry to hear that. I hope Nintendo aims to avoid situations like that in the future, but sadly it seems to be a problem across the industry.
In the defense of some of those third-party ports: some of them like the GTA Trilogy and Battlefront Classic Collection aren’t the Nintendo Switch’s fault. They’re just based on really crappy remasters and the same problems are present on other platforms. The Switch could’ve run circles around the original PS2 versions of those games. But at least they offer a portable option for these games and they’re still native ports; there was no reason for Square Enix to make Cloud versions of the Kingdom Hearts series, except maybe KH3. Pure laziness and an embarrassment to the Nintendo Switch library.
@@cartoonvideos5 All of them should be on there...natively. Maybe KH3 might give them trouble, but there's no excuse for the rest when games like The Witcher 3 and Hogwarts Legacy got surprisingly good ports for such an "underpowered" console.
For the mario 3d collextion there was so much more wrong, emulators, could do everything that they did and more with their emulated versions and alot of features where missing from the official game
Dude, I’m not that happy that super Mario party was on this list. It was the first game I got on the switch. And I really enjoyed it, playing with my family and stuff. I even “beat” the game (getting all the gems in the game). So it did not disappoint.

I'm convinced that Mario 3D All-Stars was intended to be a collection of full-on remakes and other goodies, but it just couldn't happen with time constraints and complications with the pandemic.
Just look at how much effort, care, detail and love has been put into new releases like the remakes of Mario RPG and Thousand Year Door. I really think 3DAS would have gotten the same treatment had the circumstances been better.
Except mario vs donkey kong, in that remake they remove the core gameplay and made it just boring and too easy, original is leagues ahead
The excellent 3ds game "Super Mario 3d Land" was also not included and just like Mario Galaxy 2, it should've been on there. There no excuse for that imo

I mean, it does kinda edge BDSP out on the cheapness factor, looking like an actual PS2 game while BDSP at least had _some_ polish and in being a remake means it’s just Diamond/Pearl (which were already way better than Scarlet/Violet to begin with)
To be fair, Scarlet and Violet were the next big mainline Pokémon games made by Game Freak. BDSP were just side remakes made by some other developer.

My biggest disappointment is Advance Wars Reboot Camp. They remade it with a toy aesthetic that makes it hard to differentiate the units, the online multiplayer options are very limited, you can't save the game in versus mode like the originals, its just plain slower than the originals since animations take longer, and Nintendo probably thinks no one wants a new game in the franchise even though its their fault for delaying the game over a year so most people canceled their preorders. Like you said, the game itself is still fun and worth recommending but it was a big disappointment for those few who love the franchise...rant over haha

To this day I still go back to the Mario Galaxy games on a regular basis and have 100%ed both games twice, but I just don't want to play Odyssey anymore

@@isaacvaldez7694 the most important is that in the remake collecting stars is just too easy, in the first one you had to figure how to beat the level without dying and in the fastest way possible, that is why there is the score system, it were removed and now doesn't matter how you play the level, only to beat it, wich is easy.
second they removed the minigame after collecting the gift boxes.
i don´t know why they just didn´t make the original difficulty and the new different modes, just made it easy and less challenging
@@mafw5572 That is true, I did notice that while playing the original, but at this point I think Nintendo is opting out of the score system in Mario games even tho it played a big role in the og MvDK. But I think the timer mode after you beat the whole game is the score “equivalent” for the remake. Playing that felt like the original with trying to figure out how to take the most optimal pathing in a short amount of time. Maybe they reduced the minigame after every level to once every couple of levels because it was harder to get a game over so you really didn’t need a bunch of lives and the remake’s minigame is more interactive but a variety would’ve been nice. Tbh a harder difficulty would’ve been nice especially for people who already played the og but for what its got I think its a pretty solid title and hopefully we get more MvDK games in the same style as this and DK ‘94

I agree with you regarding Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, in fact I think it would be near perfect if the graphics were a bit better (though I don't care too much about that) and the game ran better, it's a shame as that does drag it down a bit though I can still enjoy the game all the same and it doesn't change all the good stuff, it just would be better if those issues weren't there. The good thing is though Game Freak clearly know this and are taking more time to develop the games with Legends Z-A not releasing until sometime next year and Gen 10 not until 2026 which will make this the longest generation since Gen 4 (4 years instead of the traditional 3) which is what needs to be done as the games are getting more ambitious so they need more time! It's very good to see them addressing this issue!

@@Rrkeiel There have been some improvements, I believe they fixed the memory leak issue but it's still not the most ideal.
IMO, SwSh and BDSP were still worse.
With 3D All Stars the first game I played was Sunshine. I had a lot of great memories playing it on my GameCube. It became apparent that it did live up to my nostalgia. There’s a lot of gameplay issues that could be fixed with a complete ground up remake, so I’m disappointed they didn’t go this direction.

Mario strikers is one my favorite games on switch. I have over 1,300 hours into it! It might not be perfect but the gameplay is top notch so its still a blast with friends

@@jdlockefeller the reason why a lot of hate on Mario Strikers was the lack of content for $60 game, even though they added more characters, gear, and stages. It lacks of single player campaign like story mode, and the only way to have fun is to play with friends and family.

Switch Sports allows you to challenge the previous Mii champions on every single versus sport. This includes Matt on chambara.
These are every bit as challenging as they were back in the Wii Sports (Resort) days.
I rarely play Arms alone... But I play it all the time with my 8 year old Niece since she was 4.
It's still a Fun game and I can just hope we get a sequel on the Switch 2.

@@GameGuy53 The motion controls were easy to understand for a 4 year old. I only bought the game because we played the Demo for 15 hours. And that demo has only the tutorial and the first fight availabe and still she had Fun with it. We have over 150 hours of play time with it. For an adult it has not enough content but for a child it's great.

Heh also so xool thstcyiu mentioned the "Endless ocean" series. I still remember when i first got my Wii, my "non gamer" parents had went and bought me some games when Christmas came around that year. They did so well i couldn't believe it, "super mario galaxy", a bundle two pack of "No More Heroes" and "red steel" (i guess including it with the awesome No More Heroes was the only way to get anyone to buy that awful fitst red steel game 😂), Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and "Endless Ocean". I will never forget thinking about how well they did by only getting one "BAD" game. I was referring to "endless ocean" at the time. But...turns out it was the original "Red Steel" that was the laughably terrible one. "Endless Ocean" was unlike anything i had seen before. Such a unique experience and beautiful game, I absolutely loved it. Also turned out it was my mom who picked it out and insisted to my dad thst i would love it. I miss her so MUCH . Dammit...I didn't think i would end up in tears at the end of this comment. 😢

I remember getting the GameCube for Christmas and my first games weren’t quite as well regarded as the ones you got on the Wii (a Hotwheels game and Frogger, lol!), but I still have such fond memories of playing them with my parents. I wouldn't put all the 3rd party ports into the same bag, before Steam Deck came out, the idea of being able to play something like The Witcher 3 in handheld was pretty mindblowing. Sure it was ugly, and barely running, but it was playable, and you could take it with you everywhere.
It doesn't feel all that special now, with Steam Deck and a dozen other handheld PCs being much better suited for these kind of games, but I still think it was the Switch that paved the way for actual AAA gaming on the go.

And you’re totally right that there are plenty of ports that went over better than others. Yes, it was disappointing, if you were expecting Game Freak not to give you the cheapest game possible for the loyal fans to buy. But why would you have these expectations?
If you were disappointed by the last Pokemon game, don't buy the next one! That's something Pokemon fans will sadly never learn.
The only disappointing game is Sw/Sh, the rest are all decent-great. Even Sw/Sh doesn’t have title of worst mainline game.
We also have fun spinoffs on Switch, Unite is one of the most fun spinoffs in the entire franchise. Pokken DX is just better Pokken. New Snap is just better Snap. Mystery Dungeon isn’t great, but it’s not bad either… it has its audience.

@@minislayer3241 Wasted potential doesn’t mean the game is bad, it’s just not as good as it could be. The game is fine, and the modding community is turning it into the best 3D game to date. I have never understood the BDSP complaints and that isn’t any different now.
Technical Issues I never saw will not change the fact that Scarlet and Violet are one of the best mainline titles in the franchise. The new story/open-world layout, the tera forms are the only good gimmick since Mega in 2013, the story and characters are actually good, the DLC rocked, and the actual models look good. Those games were great.
Battles are actually fun again, competitive is no longer plagued by the dumbest mechanics this franchise has seen. If I did see those technical issues myself, I would take it from an 8.5 to a 7.5 which is about 3.5 points higher than Sw/Sh and about 6.5 points higher than ALL of the Gen 7 games.
Super Mario Party is endless fun based on the meat cooking minigame alone 😅

I have to disagree with ARMS. It's a great game, Nintendo gave it the Splatoon treatment regarding updates and the online play worked perfectly. It is a lot of fun and did very well for a new IP.
Sadly the community abandoned it.

18:07 One of the main issue of offering GameCube and Wii game for Switch online subcription is that each game just takes 1.46 GB and 4.7 GB, respectively for each console.
Good point - I’m sure it wouldn’t be quite as simple as what they already offer. I would love for them to let us buy or download those individually - akin to what virtual console used to offer.
Or maybe they could still build it in to the subscription service - just add in an additional download requirement for the games we want to play.
@@GameGuy53The NSO service is an awful and short-sighted idea. The Virtual Console let us buy these games individually and keep them on our console forever.
But removing that option makes NSO a ticking time bomb. One day the service will be discontinued and all those games will probably be rendered unplayable. Nintendo will just wave all that money you spent on their subscription in your face and laugh.
For the switch 2 they could easily do that which is very cool, current emulators can cache an entire ISO into the RAM so once the switch has more RAM, there's streaming potential into the RAM there
Super Mario Party does kinda infuriate me to a degree. It was advertised as a return to form, but in reality it wasn't. Besides the lack of content, the economy and mechanics are so unbalanced that it makes winning feel so cheap and meaningless. I'm someone who grew up with the series, and Super Mario Party was such a huge disappointment for me. Not to mention, I HATED how there was no option for Pro Controller support and the game could only be played with a single Joy-Con.
Totally agree with the weird economy. I think participation coins are a little weird, takes away from the cut throat nature that made the original games so fun.
Also, totally agree on pro controller support. I actually like the motion control mini games, but there’s enough that would still work with the pro that they should have given the option!
For me, Mario & Sonic at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games is a big disappointment. It kept some of the most hated things of Rio 2016, the guests. See, we have the same 20 character roster since Vancouver Winter Games 2010 and we actually finally got new characters since Rio 2016 but you can't play them in all events, they're exclusive to a select few events. And this is in Tokyo 2020, too. Not only that, they also got rid of the Mii characters, which basically gives you no other choice than this crippled roster. In Rio 2016, as much as this game sucked with it's tiny amount of events, the amount of outfits for Mii characters makes even Smash Ultimate look like a joke in comparison. The other disappointing thing is that while it has more events than Rio 2016 and brought Dream Events back, it's still not much and just on par with London 2012 for the Wii. And some events are only in 8-bit, which doesn't even look good.
This is honestly a really good pick - I couldn’t even finish the story mode in that game it’s so bad.

There’s almost nothing about Sw/Sh that I would come back to after completion. Hell, I didn’t even finish the DLC.
Even the Let’s Go games were a better choice than S/V. I understand not picking them because they serve a different purpose and are catered toward a different audience.
Super mario trio was a disappointment because nintendo straight up price gauged on the lowest possible effort and then made it limited release so people would buy it before thinking.

Sorta? Unless I’m totally wrong, I think the main solo mode is akin to classic mode from Super Smash Bros where you pick a character and battle through several rounds. It drops little pieces of lore along the way. But it’s not too extensive.

That is true - Superstars helped scratch the itch a little bit, and I forgot to mention it in the vid. But I do think even in light of Superstars, SMP is a bit disappointing.

for me the biggest dissappointment was mario+rabbits sparks of hope, it didn't come close to the original when i played it for the first time, it's not a bad game but for one of my favourite games of all time i was hoping for more, the game trys to hard to be something else, it trys to hard to be M&L, galaxy 3, when it was just a little RPG with goofy characters, the story doesn't make to much sense, and there's just a bunch of little things i don't like, like the level system,

If you are playing Mario Party for the board game, you are doing it wrong.
I played only once, maybe twice each board and then never again. I have over 100h on the other LOT of content. There is a "dancing" movement based quick competetive 3 or 6 mini games, very cool. There is mariothon, where you play the minigames, then there is collaborative river dash and also some puzzle game also cooperative. With 4 people is a ton of fun, and content for at least 200h easily.
@@lasysk Interesting take! I can see it. I guess it didn’t occur to me to give as much credit to those modes because the people I play with never want to play them. We played few times and they just wanted to go back to the board game. Maybe I’ll push them to try the side modes again with me!

Probably the most disappointing switch game has gotta be Fashion Dreamer, at least for we style savvy players. I used to absolutely binge the style savvy series, especially the third 3ds game, and was thrilled when fashion dreamer was announced. I’m sure all the style savvy players shared my wish of a proper style savvy on switch… which sadly fashion dreamer isn’t. It has a surprising lack of actual content and completely butchers the gameplay of the previous games to total boredom. Played like two days and honestly stopped even caring.
I haven’t played any of those so I had no idea they butchered the switch version. Seems like some of the common themes from the video - like lack of content - are prevalent with Fashion Dreamer as well!
I am so glad you brought up Sports Story. I don't usually get my hopes super high for new game releases, but Sports Story was a rare exception for me. Needless to say, I was very disappointed

I'm now watching the rest of the video. And I'm sorry, but people were disappointed with 3D All Stars because the meaning of words is being lost on too many people.
The games were remastered, hence them being in HD. That's what a remaster is. We had remasters for years like this and no one batted an eye.
I'm going to use RE4 to illustrate as it covers all possibilities. The game was made for the Cube. Then it had to ports. One downgraded on the PS2 and an upgraded one on the Wii. But all in SD. All ports. Then the PS3 and 360 got the game remastered in HD (which was then released in a bunch of places, even the Switch). Then Capcom remade the game recently. As a bonus, the game even has a demake on the Zeebo. All bases covered. All clearly defined within the same game.
They did a terrible job with Sunshine to be fair, I will say that with confidence. They didn't disable the heat wave effect, so it becomes broken with their lazy upscale. A ton of Sunshine players using Dolphin emulator know to disable the heat wave effect when upscaling, paid developers for some reason couldn't figure that common knowledge out with this port
Nobody was really thinking much of 1, 2 Switch at launch… hell, I remember the majority of gaming commentators at the time shitting all over it. I’d hardly call it a “disappointment,” because people never expected much from it in the first place.

Pretty much all of Nintendo's sports games, and pokemon outside of legends arceus and new pokemon snap are dissapointing. But honestly, I believe that warioware move it was kinda dissapointing, and this is coming from someone who actually likes get it together. Move it is still a good game, but theres barely any side modes. And once I beat the game, I didn't feel the need to go back to it.

You need to play more Pokemon games if you think Legends: Arceus is the peak.
Pikmin 4 should’ve been here im sorry it’s a good game but I wanted more and it just didn’t make sense I loved pikmin 3 and waited 8 years for pikmin 4 and when it came out I expected more playing with my sister I was just a rock thrower and it was just sad I like watching other people play but the game is just isn’t as good as pikmin 4

Super Mario Party was a disappointment to us because of how long the animations took sometimes. You could play a 20 turn game on Mario Party Superstars in the time it took to do 10-15 turns on SMP..... Seriously the amount of time for Kamek to "sorcel" the board alone was a crime. The small boards with smaller dice numbers was pretty meh as well.
1-2 Switch was fun it just wasn't worth $60. I feel like no one would complain if it came with the console for free like Wii Sports did

I use that sports strap for putting joy con grips inside it i can stack like 8 of them in that strap

Super Mario Party, the Mario Sports games (especially Strikers) & their finish-it-later via "free" DLC model, and Pokemon Scarlet/Violet were huge disappointments.
Pokemon specifically, I managed to get into it & complete the Pokedex, then pre-paid for the DLC. But by the time it released, I could not readjust to playing such a horrendous looking, poorly running game after spending most of my time gaming on PC.
All the awful technical issues, empty world, SLOW combat, ugly presentation, etc. was noticeable from the beginning, but as I was mostly playing on Switch, it just felt like a really poor Switch game. But after spending a year playing almost exclusively on PC & going back to Scarlet, it looked like I went back to 2001, only with worse performance.

Have u never played a tag team Super Mario party match? That stuff is a complete different map for all four of them. I prefer it because it plays more like a chess game but def play it a good bit lol especially with a tag team partner. I would be super disappointed if they didn’t have something like that in Jamboree

Wow I forgot about Sports Story. Golf Story really was funny and interesting, and then Sports story, while taking a while to come out, did not deliver on the humor, and the soorts themselves were not as interesting as they could have benn.

Bowser's Fury was probably my biggest let down. It felt like 1/8 of a Mario game

Games aren’t “disappointments” just because they’re games were once popular fade into obscurity. They were popular for a reason. Unfortunately Arms had very little chance competing with Smash Bros. unless they kept releasing content alongside it, which we knew was unrealistic. Yes, I do wish Nintendo kept the game alive a lot longer, but much like Splatoon 2, it’s clear Nintendo didn’t aim for that game to last forever, as sad as that is.
Nah splatoon and Smash weren't even mentioned. Switch Sports and Strikers were bad from the beginning due to the lack of content
I know Scarlet and Violet were complete technical letdowns but I was honestly expecting to see Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl on the list.

That would have been a good pick - I think I could have said it was disappointing as soon as it was announced because I was hoping it would be remade closer to the style of the other Switch Pokemon titles.
It’s amazing how much 1-2 Switch actually sold…..it looked like a demo at best
Some more games that were disappointing for me personally:
- Pokemon Sword & Shield (boring + unpolished. Only good part was the Wild Area)
- Nintendo Labo variety kit (I think I was just too old to properly enjoy it)
- Mario & Sonic at 2020 Olympics (the minigames felt awkward & story mode wasn't anything special)
- Tears of the Kingdom (It's a good game but it had too much tedious content to the point where it felt overwhelming. The main adventure felt like doing BOTW all over again. I haven't finished it yet since I got a bit exhausted with the game, so pls don't spoil anything for me)

In the defense of some of those third-party ports: some of them like the GTA Trilogy and Battlefront Classic Collection aren’t the Nintendo Switch’s fault. They’re just based on really crappy remasters and the same problems are present on other platforms. The Switch could’ve run circles around the original PS2 versions of those games.
But at least they offer a portable option for these games and they’re still native ports; there was no reason for Square Enix to make Cloud versions of the Kingdom Hearts series, except maybe KH3. Pure laziness and an embarrassment to the Nintendo Switch library.

@@cartoonvideos5 All of them should be on there...natively. Maybe KH3 might give them trouble, but there's no excuse for the rest when games like The Witcher 3 and Hogwarts Legacy got surprisingly good ports for such an "underpowered" console.

For the mario 3d collextion there was so much more wrong, emulators, could do everything that they did and more with their emulated versions and alot of features where missing from the official game
I personally enjoyed Endless Ocean very calm and soothing game
Despite my rant in the video, I also did have my fun with it. Completing solo dives tapped into an OCD part of my brain that I didn’t know was there.
My whole hearted sympathies to anyone else that got WWE 2K18 on the Switch.
Dude, I’m not that happy that super Mario party was on this list. It was the first game I got on the switch. And I really enjoyed it, playing with my family and stuff. I even “beat” the game (getting all the gems in the game). So it did not disappoint.
