      +Jacob De Paz Exactly what I came on here to say.
      He also mentioned other films I was knocked out by in recent years - PT Anderson's There Will Be Blood and The Master, and Terry Malick's The Tree of Life. But yes, as he describes, this particular film has something else to it. Perhaps it's because it's a genre film, who knows?
      I admit I was planning to see it on my own, in the only cinema I have seen films on my own (Watershed, Bristol), but did bring a friend and I'm pretty sure he was as knocked out by it as I was.
      Also, this is the only time I have pre-ordered the score before seeing a film - I was a big fan of Micachu before seeing the film, and had even met Mica Levi once before in my home town (when her band were playing at a local venue).
      Anyway, I am overjoyed that Rian Johnson is inspired by this film as much as I was and am very happy he is writing and directing the next Star Wars film (after The Force Awakens). I've very much enjoyed his films so far...The Brothers Bloom a little less but it still has its moments.
      Such a shame they gave the third Star Wars film to the guy who made the worst Jurassic Park sequel to date, and one of the worst blockbusters I've seen so far this year - in my opinion, of course - but at least Johnson will have a hand in the script.

      This ended up being part of what divided people. Certain types of movies aren't for everyone, and Star Wars has such a massive audience a lot of people struggled with The Last Jedi. I loved it though.

    Brick is one of my favorite films ever and I find the score of that incredible, so different and unsettling, filled with melancholy. Gotta love Rian Johnson

    The fact this guy is writing the next two Star Wars films (and directing one) is a minor miracle......Rian Johnson is like someone who shouldn't be there on set but managed to get by Disney security.

    Its interesting. Film4 ,who were involved in producing the movie, showed it last night. I watched it absolutely rivetted.
    But it was only at the end that i realised that i hadn't seen any commercials ! Respect to Film4.
    Rian Johnson was right about the tight and brilliant narrative the enjoyment of which would have been lessened with interruptions. I don't remember Film4 doing that before.

    • @babylonian

      it’s definitely a mirror - rian is just fully incorrect here, lol. part of what’s great about this film is how open to interpretation it is, but it’s a little frustrating to hear him speak so confidently and conclusively about the mirror being “very literally a portal” showing us the captured man (with her skin, i guess?) on the other side. there’s simply nothing in this movie to support his reading of the scene 😅

    • @ColombianThunder
      @ColombianThunder 4 месяца назад +1

      @@babylonianmaybe I'm being too charitable but I thought he meant it more metaphorically, in that by looking through the mirror, she's thinking about the guy. "Seeing" him, especially as I feel like she's comparing her visage to his and probably the way she actually looks too under the skin.

    "[I want to be] surprised. We all want to be knocked on our asses, right? We all wanna see something we've never seen before." -- Rian Johnson | Nope. Swathes of Star Wars fans will judge your film on more important things, such as how often lightsabers cross, whether Luke is "cool" enough, or whether the female rebel leader makes them feel emasculated.

    Listening to people try to discuss or review this movie does not help the uninitiated, and does not add to the experience of the film. Sixty years ago, this would have shown in what was called an ‘art house’.

      Thisss guy shouldn'ty be allowed ti direct anything. Under the skin iss abolute indie trash that wouldn't have made it past film school library if it wasn't for Scarlett Johansson in it. Abssolute trash, I'm not surprised thiss fraud thinks there is something deep behind it, and it wass visually ugly, but Rian finds it gorgeous. Not surprised when you see how ugly everuthing wass in TLJ
