The diesel Touareg is one of the best SUVs in the world. It's been built by the same platform with Porsche Cayanne and Bentley Bentayga. It also has lots of great features such as diff lock, low gearing mode, air suspension, 360 degrees camera etc. The sport version is the cheapest version. Dave you should definitely take the top model out for an offroad review.
If only VW could get their reliability sorted out, they'd be ahead of the competition.
Their scores are way up and working in fleet management I can tell you they are one of our most reliable. Our worst are definitely Chrysler and best probably Hyundai.

Does it have a power lift gate I'm looking to buy one
The touareg is a beast off road. I haven't driven a newer jeep but we plan on doing so within the next few months. Need to find something that has a balance of comfortable ride with good seats and can tow a boat.
Thinking Jeep but might even possibly go Acura MDX
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a good bargain with the air suspension. I suppose that might come in handy when towing with the auto load height adjustments and all.
Fantastic engine but on the wrong car. I'm glad I went with the TDI T-reg.
how has your 3.0 TDI been on your T-Reg? any big issues with the car?

Why does it have a Michigan License Plate???
+Ethan Bean It's just a press vehicle... license plates are meaningless.
+Ethan Bean VW North American headquarters used to be there until they moved to Virginia, but they still have a large call center and a few other operations in Michigan. Not sure if that explains it, but they do have a Michigan connection.
Rather have the diesel
The interior has improved a lot but still too boring to me.
vr6 makes me cringe. used to be such a cool motor, but after working on them and maintaining them, I'm less of a fan. the narrow angle makes any work on the head more complicated than it should. add in poor fuel economy, poor power and an appetite for oil, and I'll take a turbo 4 over it for most applications. unless it's the older Corrado, I'll take the vr over the g60.
This VR6 engine is outdated, too little HP and torque, too much fuel consumption, they need to come up with a new engine plan for this flagship SUV
God the first gen is better than this car in every single way
Grand Cherokee over this any day.
