    Derek's silhouette was a great short appearance, you had great bug disappearance. Also. and more importantly, great review of Joshua Tree. We went a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. There is no where to purchase anything once you enter the park, so bring food, snacks, and most importantly water. It was beautiful. Thanks, Eliz, this was well done.

    Ok I went to Mojave and saw a ton of those trees and I didn't know the name of those.I thought Joshua Trees were only at Joshua Tree National park,learned something new.

      Yes! We went to the Mojave National Preserve as well and saw the same! So glad you got to see them, and hope you can make it to Joshua Tree National Park today to see even more! 😀

      Joshua Tree National Monument is located within the Mojave Desert, which also includes Death Valley. Nearly all of the desert of Southern California is the Mojave Desert.

    Thanks for mentioning bug spray. I’ve been debating whether or not to add the weight on my backpacking trip. A few extra ounces is worth saving the swatting and ducking energy and frustration!

    Great tips, Eliz (as usual). I think there are multiple phone settings one can use to limit battery drain. Do the entrances have wifi available?

    • @MeansToTravel
      @MeansToTravel  3 года назад

      There might be a little cell phone service right at the entrances, but generally service is extremely spotty from the get-go, and then nonexistent inside the park. That said, sometimes I’d get a quick bar of service at Keys View because of its high elevation!

    I wonder why they call it a Joshua tree. Stay safe and enjoy !

    • @MeansToTravel
      @MeansToTravel  3 года назад

      I learned that according to legend, they're called Joshua Trees because Mormon settlers saw them in the desert and thought they looked like Joshua from the Bible beckoning them westward with open arms. Perhaps another reason to make sure that we present-day explorers remember to bring enough water with us to avoid any mirages, haha! 😀

      They were named so by Jewish people before English speaking people were inhabiting North America. The trees naturally exist in two parts of the world: the high desert of Southern California and Israel.

    Can I bring my dogs with me ?

    • @MeansToTravel

      Sort of. There are specific rules for pets at Joshua Tree - you can read them here: www.nps.gov/jotr/planyourvisit/pets.htm

    I was once stationed not far from Joshua Tree at 29 Palms. People actually travel there by choice to spend time that could be spent anywhere in the world they want? Interesting.

      Haha I think all of the national parks are fascinating in their own way!

    Here is an interesting factoid:
    Joshua trees naturally exist in two parts of the world...
    The high desert of Southern California and Israel.
    According to Jewish aural tradition, the trees only exist in two places known to man...
    Israel and the entrance to Hades.
