ABOUT CHRIS HEDGES: Christopher Lynn "Chris" Hedges is an American journalist specializing in American politics and society. Hedges is also known as the best-selling author of several books including War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning (2002) - a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction - Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle (2009), Death of the Liberal Class (2010) and his most recent New York Times best seller, written with the cartoonist Joe Sacco, Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt (2012).
Hedges is currently a columnist for news website Truthdig and a senior fellow at The Nation Institute in New York City.

Wow, Chris Hedges was magnificent! He eloquently describes why whistleblower Edward Snowden, who swore an oath to the U.S. Constitution, had no choice but to expose the NSA's crimes no matter what the personal cost.

Whatever goes on here in America is also by complicity of other countries, both ally and foe alike, and perpetrate the turpitude of American Imperialism. If you weren’t having hope for Americans a few years ago, those who are a truly informed citizenry here, know good and well most citizens of our allied countries are just as hopeless of cause as you felt/feel we were/are. We collectively are complicit until we take direct action as nations against the highest levels of corruption all governments are perpetrating against their citizens.

Only by listening to great minds like Chris hedges will we have a chance to make a leap forward as human beings...
I sobbing with rage listening to Hedges speech. It's so clear this is unconstitutional. It needs to end. There is no one to appeal to to make it end. We must do it through electing our own officials who can fight for us.

I am assuming there were no rebuttal speeches. The haphazard organization of the speakers was confusing. I was not sure the correct order. I do know the speakers for the proposition (Hero Snowden) won the debate by a vote of the audience. I have to assume that it is impossible to make a valid case against the proposition since none was made. The opposition speakers resorted to logical fallacies, irrelevant evidence and misdirection to make their points. That seemed to be the only way they were able to keep talking. They lost the debate but are still winning in the halls of Congress and Justice. Sick!

I love this one. He is Hedges the Calvinist preacher and journalist all in one. He is in other lectures. But here we see it clearly the merger of the two.

I must say something, since the topic is heroism and heroes is the topic. My uncle Pvt. First Class Donald Mullane died a physical hero in Korea, in 1953. He was decorated like a Christmas tree, but what does it mean when I never got to even meet this 19 yr. old man, due to this blunder of a truly stupid war. The U.S. massacred countless thousands of Koreans and left the country a wasteland. WHY? What did it accomplish? Answer: NOTHING. NOT A GODDAMNED THING.
Wealth , more wealth for the rich from the American taxpayer. This was accomplished by the war. And it is only what matters
