on critical low battery when you say it will force landing when you let go of the sticks, on the left hand side it says cancel landing. I assume you can press this and stop the landing.
Well done Ian. As a drone pilot for 6 years, I still appreciate these educational videos. Drone systems change over the years and what may have been true a few years ago on one drone, may not be correct now. An example, the need to discharge the battery every so often to reset the smart battery. I believe this is no longer a DJI requirement.
Well done video! Most of us Mavic Mini Operators will at one point in time run into such situation. It happened to me flying in hilly terrain with unexpected much stronger winds at little higher altitudes. I was lucky smart enough to fly with the remaining power to the next best landing site. Out of this acquired experience now, once at 30% power I start thinking about an eventual plan B. In unfamiliar terrain I found to use the map function helpful in order to fly as close as possible to the nearest road.
Ian, not sure if you still monitor this video (2 years ago) but I had this happen to me 2 days ago on a commercial drone job. That's why I searched for this video. My Autel Evo II ran out of battery while on an orthomosaic mission. The drone completely disconnected from the controller, so I had no control whatsoever. But I found the drone in perfect condition in a parking lot. We are so fortunate that these dang things are smarter than we are!! Thanks so much for demonstrating this.
Hi Ian I’m glad I watched this when you posted it(I obviously didn’t listen to the “don’t push your battery part”or I wouldn’t be writing this now🤔)as I had my Air 2 out yesterday on a 14.7km flight, and managed to land at home with 2% battery remaining.I had cancelled the initial low battery return to home as it was about 40%, and decided to carry on another 1.3km away. When I decided to head back I was 3.8km away on 28% battery. And as I found out it goes down a lot faster than you expect. When the flight remaining time turned red I got the “critical battery aircraft landing in current position“message(but this does not appear on the flight log I have uploaded (so I have a permanent reminder of how stupid I am)for some reason), and it started counting down and started descending on it’s own, this is the important part of your post I did remember, and I put full throttle up and held it and that stopped the descent, but it slowed from 19m/sec to 11m/sec.I came another 1km closer like this until it came up with another power limit message and slowed to 5-6m/sec, but I was closer to home now and managed get it home and hand catch it with 2% battery left🥵 Also there was no beeping or anything from the controller whilst this was going on, but to be fair I’m glad about that because that would not have helped one bit, as I was panicking enough. Anyway sorry about the long winded post. Kind regards Kev

Use a parabolic mike. A pickup in an old mixing buwl will do. Estes Rockets put out one that looked like a handled tube. It concentrates sound and gives you direction.
SPASMØDIC Actually, the pickup microphone, even your phone with ear plugs, goes in the center of the bowl. Tape in place and point the open top of the bowl toward your search area. Sweep back and forth for the loudest beeps. The bowl is similar to cupping your hands behind your ears to hear small noises and make your hearing more directional. It works, though putting it on your head might keep you safe from aliens, similar to tinfoil hats???
@@dennisbrooks240 I cna imagine it works similar to the spy kit type devices they sell for kids. It makes sense as it just like expanding your ears giving a larger surface to catch sound waves. This was a great tutorial. thanks Ian!
Almost happened to me today thanks for the tips!
Hi Ian.
Just thought I’d ask if you were thinking of doing a video covering the flight modes and quickshots etc on the Mavic air 2?
I’ve watched other RUclips vids but always prefer your way of no nonsense delivery 👍🏼
Hi Phil. Sure, I'll add that one to the list.... Cheers, Ian
I ordered my mavic mini and it should arrive tomorrow and I can't wait to start flying 🤗
How is it on your first day? Mine is coming Thursday
R u from UK ?
Can I get this drone under 400pound?
@NH Zulkamine - Yes, Mavic Mini
@@IaninLondon could u plz tell me the minimum price of this drone in UK?
Excellent video !! Where is it that European videos are so much more professional than US videos ? Very well explained and edited. Big like 😎 👍
Nice video Ian. Thanks for sharing.
Ian Nice Video & hope I never have that happen either ! Thanks for the Great Video !
great video shared with my DJI Mavic Mini Canada FB group [we now have over 1000 members] What was that field with all the holes used for - looks like some old artillery range ?
Hey fella; thanks for the FB share. The ending clip is Grimes Graves in Norfolk, UK; i'ts actually a neolithic flint mine and each dimple is a 6-7 metre wide mining pit that was hand dug, mined for flint, then filled wiht earth from the next pit being dug. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grime%27s_Graves
Cheers, ian
The biggest problem about being new at flying is you don't know what you don't know. Videos like this have been real eye openers and drone savers. Thanks, Ian!!!
Could you comment on the wind speeds that day? I've only flown my Mini in very light or no winds so far. Am I being overly cautious?
Check out my Mavic Mini playlist as it has a few wind based videos you should watch 👍🏻👍🏻
Great Ian, thanks for sharing!
Excellent, I learned something today, thank you!!
Thank you I have learnt a lot from your vids.👍
Everytime the low battery warning came on, I wanted to press confirm 😂
Ha ha..if it land on water..it will swim🤣.i'm enjoying your guide. Thanks Mr.Ian
Very good video. Very good contribution. Thanks.
After watching your video......... I will spray the topside a very bright orange color 👍🏼👋🏼👍🏼
Excellent video Ian.👍👍
7:19 The dogs were the best part of this video for me.❤
I saw another video where the person was able to input lateral controls still while in critical critical auto decent mode, just not vertical inputs. Maybe add that in somehow or in a future video?
Ok, good to know. I didn't have much time on this one as it was so close to the ground 👍🏻👍🏻
That moment when you find your drone in the field to realise it’s the one that you lost the last time you did a video on how to find your drone.
Ha! Not quite that bad :) :) If I had been watching where it went down instead of talking to the camera, I'd have found it in 30 seconds..... :) Hope all's good down there in the NT with you fella!
Ian in London lol. That will learn you. Line of sight always. ;) doing well here. Just same old same old.
Informative and good video. thanks.
Your videos are always really informative /thumbsup
Thanks Ian. Handy information to know
Thanks Ian, you answered my question about whether or not you had any control over the elevation when entering the 1st critical battery warning. I didn't think you did. Of all the critical warnings rapidly occurring, would be nice if that little piece of information was displayed. 🙄 Thanks again!
Awesome content and a fantastic video. The weather has been awful since I got mine , only been out a few times. Typical British weather, 👍😁👍
It's been a poor June and July so far; get out this weekend; forecast is good.... :)
This was really helpful. Thank you man!
I think it was the "Drone locating dogs" that found it! 😁
Very informative video, thanks a lot!
Hi Ian, noticed a little bit of rain on your t.shirt ! do any of the mavic,s have any degree of weather proof ness ? Kind regards stuart
Yes, the closing segment was filmed as it just started raining... TBH they're all pretty good in a light bit of rain for a short period; I wouldn't fly fast in torrential rain tho as that would get water inside the body... Ian
Literally what happened to me today. Nearly landed on a rooftop I have no access to. It was gonna be a very sad day. Luckily there was a grass patch I could land in to get it back. I had the idea it would return to home on a critical battery. Learned thats not the case
Thanks Ian. I'm gradually increasing my knowledge thanks to your beginner's tips playlist. Quick question. I noticed that in Find my drone there's an option to "Start flashing and beeping"?
That's in the Find My Drone section and will make the drone flash and beep if it's crashed but still got power and connected to remote. 👍🏻
thanks for sharing this vedio sir, it is big help.... me for the safe flight LIKE long range flight, I made to return in 65 percent battery.
Very useful information there just subbed cheers for that 💯👌💯
Thanks for that 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
My battery on my mini 2 just dropped today and it did an automatic landing about 2 miles from my house.
Thank you for the valuable information
Great video! I assume this will work for the mini 3 Pro as well? Thanks again.
Yep
Thanks Ian always good advice cheers
