New DJI MINI 2 Distance test over 6.6 miles over pacific ocean return with less than zero battery.

- Purchased my DJI MINI 2 a few days ago and wanted to do a distance test. I believe the batteries have some sort of reserve power because the drone flew for over half a mile on zero battery. I was shocked to have made it back home.

Way good shoot.
Now I know what my drone can do. Have you tested in severe cold and heat.
I’m here in Oregon, but I go to the Mohave desert Arizona. I’d like to know if having 120° day will make a difference in the batteries. And then in turn on a day that’s below freezing. Let me know if you’ve done any tests for this. Thanks.
@@amazingcreativedesign8481 No I have not. I'm here in Los Angeles and a cold and hot day is 65 to 75 Fahrenheit...lol but I want to fly someplace like Mohave. Let us know the results when you go.
Moral of the story, don't do range tests over water unless you have a strong heart.
or money to replace it...LOL. However rules state to keep in sight....
@@kidhenderson8260 it’s over water so it really doesn’t matter.
insurance
Or you can afford a Model 3
Don't do range test over water at all if you have a brain. Dji must know what kind of idiots buy their drones to give 0% left when it's really over 20%
OMG "I was looking at the bird, thinking I could land on it" - desperate times call for desperate measures. Too freaking funny!
As a new drone flyer, that was the most intense thing I’ve seen in years.
I just purchased the dji mini 2.ive been watching lots of content and making sure I get all my ducks in a row before my first flight.kind of nervous lol.
@@drakejdf I’ve only flown for a couple of months and I’m still nervous flying around buildings and trees.
@@michaelgreenii3049 that takes about 6-8 months to pass same thing with my spark 3 years ago nearly lost it when it was 1 month old 300m down a beach and return to home gone stupid.

hahaha, or he has spare cash to buy another drone! :)
heart pounding video and funny thou..
I think... Angels carried her home!
Me to. So nice to see
Btw that was an amazing flight and glad you got her back to land.
Bird: "oh jeez. Here comes another Mini 2 on 0% battery. Why does everyone go too far, and end up trying to land on me?"
LMAO.
You do know that's how birds mate right. The male lands on the females back and taps that birdie hole. If you start hearing bird calls outside your window you better have the talk(birds/bees/DJI nuts) with your mini2.
More dramatic than any movie I've seen in ages
true
I’m a brand new first time drone owner. I just got my Mini 2 last week. Seeing this almost gave me a heart attack. But it’s also very inspiring at the same time. My Mini is capable of so much and it’s thrilling to know that. I made a great choice. Thanks for this. It showed me what not to do but I can do if absolutely necessary.
-- First time owner of a Mini 2 as well. I've seen them go 7 minutes on 0 battery, but it's supposed to hurt the battery a great deal. Well made drone through and through, right down to them giving you a little extra in the battery ... just like NASA :)
@@MarkJacksonGaming It's worth to mention the damage to the battery is incredibly bad
@@MarkJacksonGaming I have owned my Mini 2 for almost a year, very great, reliable drone. im about to take it to the beach but I am definitely not flying over a half mile away, winds can get pretty rough but the Mini 2 does handle some strong winds, ive had it in about 15-20mph so far and it gave me a wind warning. Takes amazing pictures and videos also.

This is way too legendary nothing about this makes sense
Just had to watch this again and jot down some numbers after converting to metric. At 5.2km you started the return at 58% battery. You were at 0% battery at 800 meters and made it to shore doing 20km per hour. Simply amazing!
is fake
I hope it's not fake for the sake of the publisher, but if it's real it's pure luck. The drone would have landed in the ocean probably 1km before dry land..
@@jorgebnuk The Drone starts to land at 5% battery, so as not to fall from the top
Yeah I know you can force stop landing but when battery is critical it will land no matter what you do ..
@@SHARLISHARLI .
I have a mini2 , it literally amazes me what those tiny things are capable of. 16631 feet is my mini2’s distance record. The wind can be your very good friend, or your very worst enemy. I’ve watched this twice now, lol, it’s amazing! If you happen to see this comment, I’d love to know how it affected (if at all) that battery the drone was using during that flight. It had to be nearly smoking, lol, they claim burning that last 10 percent gets them hot. One tip I would like to offer, go out in normal and return in sport, this has worked well for me, I love to range test, it’s a strange adrenaline charge you get when your sure it won’t make it back, but it does! Going out in normal and returning in sport left 11 percent in the battery when I flew mine out to 16631 feet away. I didn’t have any wind to contend with though, I know you already know how just a little can change the outcome of that kind of flying. I loved this video!
Wow, when it got close I'd be running into the water to make sure it wasn't landing in the water.
I was thinking the same thing. I thought the guy running parallel to the shore was him at first.
@@ubreakitirepairit3569 Yeah... makes me wonder if he added all the low bat alarms post production.
Occusync works fine. You weren't high enough.
Fun fact: your mavic mini 2 starts forced landing at 7 volts and you cannot push up when the battery is at 7 volts, one thing I would recommend is to increase your height to the maximum allowed. The drone would STILL let you push forwards even if the battery is lower than 7 volts, though I don’t know how long it would fly until it just straight up drops out of the sky
This is by far my favorite and the best mini 2 range test in RUclips. it's like watching a scary, action-packed movie.
Thanks for the video! My Air 2 came back with under 10% a couple of times, and it was in this landing mode, and it was nerve wrecking. Thanks to videos like this I know there is some power left when thins stuff happens to the drone.
Love it, nothing like doing it over water to really make it thrilling
doing this over the Grand Canyon would have been the same....if you could fly there which is Highly illegal.. State Park.. but loosing it there would be the same fate... its gone for good. I would love to fly in Waimea Canyon in Kauai.. but same fate.. its like a mile down but it would crash in the most beautful place on earth.
Yeah, don’t try this at home kids; he’s what you call a lucky dude.
I don't think we have oceans at home but ok
Wow That was a Hollywood Blockbuster summed up in under 9 minutes,an Oscar nomination in my books.
It was like watching your horse winning at the last fence in the grand national “COME ON, COME ON’ 😳
LOL
Even though I wouldn’t take a chance like that with my new Mini 2, it’s still very informative video of what these drones can do and their built in safety features.
Not even my drone and my heart got a little quick at the end
Same here...
Lol
I am not going to fly my mini 2 that far....
I knew from the title how this was going to turn out...and my heart was STILL pounding!
I recently did something similar over the Atlantic Ocean down in Miami Beach. Got about 3 miles out but had roughly 60% battery left. Problem is, it was extremely windy and took forever to get back to land. My heart was racing the entire time but i ended up landing with about 10% left. The next day I gave myself another heart attack by launching from my balcony. Let me tell you, landing was the scariest thing ever. The winds down there really pick up. Very different from Santa Monica.
dude ! That flight had me on the edge of my seat!🤙👍👍👍
I cant imagine my baby air 2 going through such horrors. Glad you got it back!
Thanks
Wow! Just wow! The mini 2 is a real fighter! I was so happy when she was over the dry beach!!
Holy hell!!! I was shitting bricks over here! I'm happy you were able to get it back home!
That was heart pounding 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wow what a lucky man i had a feeling it was just going to land in the ocean and be gone as seen a few people fly out to sea and the drone wont make it back due to headwind being to strong. Glad you got it home safe
OMG that was close the best i have seen yet glad you got it home safe!!
Enjoyed the footage, I was on tbe edge of my seat, Great soundtrack too! It's good to know there's some juice left in the tank after 0%!!!
I've just had a heart attack! Wow, that was intense. 👍🏻🍻
I know the feeling 😭 it’s fucking scary and stressful thank god you got it back hahah
'Heart pounding!' Happy Flying
That was very close! I'm happy with you that your baby has come to dry land! 👏👏👏🥰
Legend says the drone is still flying.... unbelievable!!!
Yes sir its flying.
That was a intense flight great piloting 🙂
This was the best toe standing thriller I seen in a long time
Bro felt my heart beat in my feet for ya lol. Expected it to make it but know how batteries are in the rc world. Dropping one below the cut off voltage could damage it. I've ran lipos for years now and during a race it's hard to put when you have 2 laps left. Thanks for the video. Waiting on my mini to be delivered now. Can't wait to give it a go.
Congratulations on your chosen soundtrack. I am still shaking
Thanks Fabio
Note to self... DJI leaves a little extra in the tank for poor planners.
3400feet extra with a headwind!
Apparently it gets goin after a few cycles
You did that classic hand shake at the end when you pull off something epic
You get the nerves of steel award,I am expecting delivery of my mini 4k and watched this video. I own multiple dhi drones and am looking forward to pushing the mini to its limit, thank goodness I don't live near the ocean.Keep pushing the limits bro.Jez from east Tennessee.
That was insane, force landing right when you got beside your car. Man your so lucky 😂
He let up on the stick at that point...
Or the drone sensed that the RC was right there and had enough
Even though i force myself to watch this horrible flight because of my heart attacks, i could see my vehicle's extreme points for emergency states. Thanks you for this extreme video.. (By the way, yes i also think to land on that bird while watching the video :) ) I'm shocked that Mini 2 still fly with 0 battery. That shows DJI leaves you some battery for extreme landings but if you failed to land safely, most probably propeller would stopped instantaneously..
Your drone flying through a spirit instead off battery..he didnt want to drown yet in the ocean plus he's lucky enough not to facing a strong wind..so intense and amazing
My heart was in my mouth for you!
Wow, just wow..
Have a mini but haven't taken it out over the water as yet, not sure I want to after seeing this!! Glad you got it back, pay attention to the RTH warning next time..👍👏😲
Tucks, england
So I gess DJI really wasn't lying about the 31min flight time 😅
That’s so crazy, she made it back how I’m still try to understand. 😎
Just got my mini 2 today ! Wifey surprised me! Can’t wait to use it. Starting with normal mode lol
I haven't been in that much suspense since the last Mission Impossible movie! Glad you were able to save your drone.
Woow...better than in any action movie...at the end my pulse increased:)
This is a crazy!!! I'm also impressed with the battery life. Flying at 30 mph for so long it didn't really drain that much.
I think the wind helped it out
That was a dope video and flight , I mean I’m shocked how far it kept going on 0% battery!
That was a heart pounding watching this video. Well done bringing her home. 👍👏👏👏👏
Yes, thank you
im still loving my old mavic pro 1.
A few seconds could turn great fame into heartbreak.
You must start betting in the lottery, dude.
A great movie !
the exact nightmare with range tests, especially over the water. i always check a wind map for the surrounding area, because currents are indeed very unpredictable. once i was doing a range test over the city, there was no wind in the point where i was standing and 3 miles away i had a strong wind warning, and i couldnt return with max speed. went there with 64% battery, returned with 10%. always make sure to return if it goes below 55%, you never know what could happen really.
edit: also yes, i did a battery check with the mini 3 pro, and it stayed at 0% for a couple while, but still its good to return it safely before that happens.
Wowzas. Well done man amazing. 😄👌
Well , you deserve credit as a pilot for not abandoning your aircraft when the auto land came on and battery showed 0. I have seen a few other drones make it back on zero, however, I believe it's the actual condition of the battery that saves the aircraft, while zero shows in display a battery could have 4% left as reserve unmeasured power. Now I would not count on that every time...!
Yes, you are correct. The indicator showed zero but the battery actually had 2 percent when I landed. I will not do that again...LOL
Ahh I see.... the indicator is generally inaccurate to encourage ops to make it back quicker...
Smart software engineering... fuckin good hardware to back it up.
Man.... we live in a time where China has gotten to God tier in engineering and manufacturing. Wish the US and Canada could still make good products like this...
@@Matanumi also beecause when u land theres no amp load anymore (well not much) so the battery percentage jumps
And now it will have calibrated better sonnext time 0 means 0 lol... Apparently turning video recording off saves battery too. Great video.
I have this drone and it’s an amazing little drone. I almost love it more then my mavic 2 zoom.
yes I agree
Thanks for the video good to see that there are reserves and that you have to do a full pull in case you missmanage battery capacity and distance.
So nervous watching this! Thanks for sharing.
RIP your battery, probably. Undervoltage will kill it as much as overvoltage, but I'm sure you don't care about that right now, you got the bird back :)
Probably not, the typical cutoff voltage of a polymer cell is 3.3V and the mini 2 says it has 0% on ~3.6V. I think they left room for exactly such cases shown above. In the last seconds of the video you see the Battery voltage charge and he landed her on ~3.5V so everything should be alright.Of course the battery lives longer if you only decharge it to 3.6V but a one time discharge to 3.5V or even 3.4V shouldn't really matter.
Well better a damaged battery then a destroyed drone.
@@Curly3107 Where do you see the battery voltage charge?
Man! I have to say it felt like watching a suspense movie. Great video and I have to say this Drone is on fire! By the way were you able to use the battery again or was it damaged since you exceeded the allowable usage?
Yep the battery works great. Thanks
I'm glad I bought a mini 2 excellent video man love it
Astounding footage... You called her bluff but you couldn't beat her poker face _ Haha! Little Mini 2 really showed up bigtime, Impressive!!!
Wow that was a Dustin Dunnill type flight. At least you can ovverride the auto land with the stick input. Whew! that was a nail biter.
LOL I'm waiting for Dustin Dunnill to do the range test on the Mini 2. He should have the video up soon.
@@YoGRIND His range test on Mini 2 was surprisingly safe, the drone returned with a lot to spare.
@@SkyStudioWest Yes I saw that LOL but he will do another test soon.
Ok since I watched and commented on this video I had my own nail biter happen. I was out over 2400 away when it hit 0% battery over the middle of a large river and made it back and landed in my hand. Battery is fine and has been used several time since. This little Mini 2 never ceases to amaze me.
Got my heartbeat going on this one buddy! I was sure she was a clunker. I think you should not push your luck that far again! 😉
Yes i agree thanks

Thrilling video but not sure I buy the o% battery!

So glad you got your drone back! PHEW! That was tense! Lol Can’t wait to fly my Mini 2 (got it Friday) once the lockdown has ended here in the UK

I still don’t really know the difference between sport mode and normal mode. Does one or the other save more battery?
P (program) mode restricts the speed of the drone and use less battery. S (Sport) mode allows the drone the fly faster and therefore use more battery. Its the law of resistance applied to the drone LOL Going slower technically saves fuel because at high speed your engine needs to work harder to overcome drag from wind resistance, same for cars. when going a 100 mph you will burn more fuel then going 55 because of the wind resistance on the vehicle. Hope that help to understand P vs S mode on the drones battery consumption.
@@YoGRIND thanks for all that detailed info. Makes perfect sense! Keep these vids comin’!
@MrAbletospeak Normal mode is the same as P mode. DJI just goes through a lot of name-changing over the years.
@@YoGRIND yeah, that’s all correct. But sometimes you can travel more if you have much more speed in a less time. For example 30 minutes with 20mph gives you 10 miles, and 25 minutes with 30 mph will give you more even at a less time. Are there any real tests and calculations with mavics?
You would've had better ocusync signal if you were flying higher.
Just purchases the Mini2. However, I must say you have nerves of steel. Although I believe DJI programmed the drone to allow ample battery juice for the return trip. Your demonstration is a proof to that.
Congrats on your purchase. A really fun drone.
did it come ordered mines on christmas
Glad little guy limped home safely with nothin left. What an adrenaline rush. Not for faint of heart
Can’t believe it. It wouldn’t have gone another 20 feet lol. That’s really stretching it. Cheers mate. 🦘🇦🇺
I've see videos of drones landing on their own in water with more that 20% battery but urs flew for over 4-5mins at 0%. Almost like a loyal pet who comes back home at the end of the day. 😂
That’s what I was thinking loyal little guy! Can’t wait to get mine.
Tip! You can buy floaters for like 30 bucks specially made for this drone. It’s not the best thing you can trust on but it can save your drone!
I wonder how much the weight and drag is with the floats and how it would impact this same test. Would it maybe end up in the water? But, at least it would float..
man that was epic! legit crying happy tears lol
Congratulations U did good job...Thx
I find the the battery percentage and time remaining on the battery (clock) doesn't always add up. During a climb the it will suddenly give a major drop in remaining time and regain it again when you level off.
I think that's because u r using more power when you climb. So the app takes that into consideration when calculating the remaining battery and time.
Lol this made me so 😊 😃 😺 😄 ☺ 😹 😊 😃 lol
