    Phil. I have that floating thing. It is ok. I live on an island, here in Japan (which is also a big island), and often fly near the ocean and over it. I have used it a few times, but find that it really limits what I can do with the drone, when it is attached. For one, my field of view is limited. When I do Active Track, the floaties are always getting in the frame. I can't shoot pano, because the floaties also get in the way. Also, they have a lot of wind resistance, so you might want to add more time to your return to home setting, or else it might not make it back (in which case you will really need the floating capability). I have landed on the water with it and then taken off. It works fine. BUT, BUT.....if you land and take off, go straight up. Do not (like I did once), try to take off, moving forward. It flipped over. Fortunately, I was near it. Anyway, it is ok. Just know that there are some things you all need to consider.

      I dont recommend ever trying to Land in the ocean even with the water landing attachment since any wave could still flit it over and you rather just avoid water when youre battery is running low

    I have a DJI mini 2 SE and was surprised to find out that most of (not all) your accessories still keep a sub 250g drone legal to fly without registration or RID. The 2 things I did different was The DJI Mini 2 Two-Way Charging Hub at $39.00, only charges (as you stated) batteries in sequence (1 at a time) so the Hanatora Battery USB Charger with Quick Charge 3.0 for DJI Mini's at $13.99 is a cheaper way to go! not to mention it's easier to store in your bag because of its much smaller size. and I went with a "weighted" (orange & black) landing pad, so it doesn't need to be staked. Thank you for the insight into these accessories.

    I just upgraded to the mini 2 after seeing how much better occusync is, the mini 2 bag in the fly more combo is alot better, you can get so much more in it compared to the mini 1 case, you can even fit in a second charger pack, i now have my mini 1 and mini 2 batterys in the bag, in the words of clarkson more power :D

    I'm an avoid photography and the Mini 2 is my first drone. I really like it. I discovered your channel while searching for filters. Really appreciate your videos. You probably know and others may have noted it, regarding the blade guards, the firmware/software app now recognize when you use the guards. I put my on, the screen showed it recognized the guards and was calibrating for the guards. Thus, no need to go into the Settings from what I can see. Look forward to watching your other videos. One question. I do like the bag (that you show) that came with my combo pack; very small. I've thought of getting a hard case which are larger. Thoughts hard case vs. the bag itself. The compact size of the bag makes it less visible and easy to put into my hiking pack.

  • @jgreg95
    @jgreg95 3 года назад

    Concerning the lipos bags, they probably give some a sense of security and possibly better than nothing but if they act like lipo batteries when the catch fire then they’ll burn very very hot and one batteries would most likely ignite the others it’s stored with and that poor little bag probably won’t stand a chance, lol just being real. I’d like to try the floaty but in windy conditions seems it “could” be an issue but I suppose not nearly as bad as a sunken drone.

    Nice accessories. Regarding "cinematic look" and "amateurish look" - this is a matter of what look you want to achive to emphasize your story. I can set my shutter speed at 1/frame rate and fly very fast so I can get very blurry image for some reason, as well as I do not need to follow the 180-deegre rule and set some high shutter speed to emphasize the intense or disorientation in combination with fast flying. Cinematic does not mean slow camera move set at 24 fps and 1/48 of shutter speed. So nd filter is just a compensation for excessive light that you get for your specific frame rate and shutter speed. Cinematic refers to cinematography☻

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  4 года назад +2

      Well hello, a worthy comment! Thanks for that Szymon, and even though I 100% agree with you in terms of using high and slow shutter speeds for cinematography, the standard is the 180 degree rule. So if you're on set and you're setting up the camera you'll set it to 25fps 1/50, right? It's the standard, it's what we all use. It's rare that someone would use a high shutter speed, films like Saving Private Ryan are very few where the cinematographer actually uses the shutter speed to be consequential to the story and pull the viewer in even closer. The same goes with slower and even fluctuating shutter speeds like you can see in Man of Fire, that was epic, and I even tried that look using that Arri 2B camera which has a dial on the bottom so you can change the shutter, it looked pretty cool. Using the shutter as a tool is fantastic, and one word I've learnt over the years I've been doing this is "consequential", I think that's so important. There are so many films that are beautiful, but they lack either story or they lack input from the cinematographer. So many people love their gear, and overuse gimbals, not even knowing what they should be used for and in what situations. So yes, I totally agree with you but disagree at the same time because as we know the 180 degree rule is the standard, it's what we reach for so that our footage looks "cinematic", hate that word and even I overuse it. If we ignore this rule we get very sharp footage like the "football mode" on the tv, however some directors such as Peter Jackson have used this to their advantage in films like the Hobbit to achieve a sharper, more realistic image with the Hobbits, odd experiment, but some agree it worked. Dzieki za wspaniala wiadomosc, ciesze sie jak ktos pisze z glowa 🔥

    Good video and tips. One point I disagree with is the mini 2 is not flimsy but robust as a RUclipsr has already crash tested it and done other stress tests and the mini 2 has surpassed other drones .

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  4 года назад +1

      Hi Mario, sure, what I meant is that if feels flimsy, it's very flexible, I think that is why it survived all those tests, I watched them too. It's a fantastic drone, and I've crashed my Mini original into the wall so many times, it didn't even scratch. My Mavic 2 Pro is so sturdy and stiff if it crashed like my Mini did it would be game over, so it's flimsiness is in my opinion one of its strengths.

      Hi James! Sure! So start with your fps, if you're in Europe 25, if you're in the US 24. Then your shutter speed, set it to 1/50th and you're ready. All you do now is set the sensitivity, so your iso, start with iso 100. Now if it's sunny cloudy outside stick on an ND16 and see how the image looks on the phone, if the sky isn't completely white and the ground isn't completely dark you're good to go. If it's still too bright stick on the ND32, if it's too dark stick on the ND8. If it gets dark at night, take off the filter, and adjust the iso, so go to 200, 400, 800 until you get an image where you can see the scenery, usually 1600 and 3200 at night to see lights from buildings. I hope that helps!

    Do you know the weight of the ND filters? I am guessing they might be more than 1g which would then push the Mini 2 into new classification territory, at least as far as the UK rules are concerned, and no longer be legally able to fly in certain places. I'm not sure if/when anyone is stopped, their drone is ever weighed for compliance?

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  4 года назад +2

      I think they might be a gram or two, they are very light. I have to be honest, I don't think the drone police would weigh the drone, I've never heard of that happening, the rules are more or less the same for all of us across Europe now.

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  4 года назад

      Hi Juri! So ND filters are simply put sunglasses for our cameras. To achieve natural motion blur, so the image not being too sharp or too blurry, we need to set the correct shutter speed. That is 1/50th if our frame rate it 25fps. Using that 180 degree rule as it's called, we allow far too much light into our lens, so we need to limit how much is getting in using ND filters. If you film at 25fps and have a shutter of 1/1000th, which is very fast, you'll have a very sharp and jittery image, if you go the other and use 1/25th you'll have a blurry and almost dream like image.

      Hi Christopher! Yes, I'm actually waiting for a sunny day here in Poland, as for the last 2 weeks it's been so gloomy, the sun should be coming out this week, so filter video planned! Yes, I have experienced that, but it was user error, so my fault. If you put them on and they aren't in properly the gimbal will go loco, so you have to click them in correctly and put them on before you turn on the drone. That way it will turn on, feel them out and adjust them gimbal accordingly, you can always calibrate the gimbal too via the app for added perfection. 99% they are fine, but when I'm in a hurry and I don't put them on correctly and I put them on after I turn on the drone, they can go funny. So attach them correctly and you'll be just fine. I've been using them for over and year, and this has happened twice, both times my fault.

      For starters I'd go for an ND8, ND16, ND32, those should get you through the day in most places.

    Ill go 2weeks in holidays, tropical island. Do you recommend the all day filters or the bright day filters?

      On tropical islands I use ND16, ND32 and ND64 sometimes. I never went over ND64 and never dropped below ND16.

      Freewell ND64/PL Hybrid Filter for DJI Mavic Mini/Mini 2 Drone?

      Hi Brittany, I would suggest the kit as an ND64 is used if the sun is really strong like in Vegas for example, normal sun ND32, cloudy sunny ND16, overcast ND4-ND8. A PL hybrid is awesome as you can get the shutter back down to 1/50th and darken the sky and kill reflections.

      The Freewell filters work for both drones.

    Is there an accessory that allow use of an 8" tablet instead of a 6" smart phone?
