Top tips on how to fly safe and not crash your Drone. I list the main mistakes pilots make and the causes and reasons that drones crash or flyaway. Keep your Mavic Mini, Mavic Air, Mavic Air 2, Mavic Pro or 2 Pro or Mavic Zoom safe and learn to fly it in ways that will avoid crashing your expensive bit of kit.
Flying under bridges; flying over water; pilot mistakes; best start up procedures; flying too far; how to use the map; how to find my drone; what to do if your drone is being blown away; how to avoid flyaways; how to use the flight modes and what to watch out for with Sports Mode; basically how to fly your drone without crashing.

Happy flying guys.... Ian - Наука
What near misses have you had? Let us know below! Take care and stay safe! Ian
Ian in London A crowd of bird around my drone
Hawk chasing the MP a few weeks back. I had my goggles on and my spotter was watching the hawk. Put the drone down in a field safely till hawk decided to chase something else.
@Bird's Eye - Birds of Prey aren't great for drones.... you can also try rising up above it quickly if it's about to attack. Cheers, Ian
Did a 360 of a parked bus for a church. Didnt check the radius I was circling and tapped a tree branch. I'm super happy it caused no real damage and the blade got a very small chip but still flew with no issues.
I crashed my mini into my window, I don’t know how it’s perfectly fine
Having flown real aircraft, I always tend to fly drones as though I'm actually in them and will get hurt if I crash.
Attach a REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT ribbon streamer to your gimbal shield-- makes it easy to remember you have to remove the shield before flight. Just like the shields over full-flight aircraft.
Close calls? Check! Crashed into a tree, walls indoors and the latest was flying away from an angry bird. For real! Thanks for the tips :)
Birds, especially gulls, can be a rela problem.... Rise up fast and get away... :)
And an angry humming bird once.
The buzzards are the bustards in the Wye Valley.
Ima say that hawks and eagles are the worst, went to Alaska and almost lost drone to an eagle 😂 lol
Ian - excellent set of starter tips, articulately expressed and well organized. Thank you.
Thank you for taking the time to produce this Ian. I am looking forward to getting my Mavic Air 2 !
Brilliant advice. I'm a lifelong radiomodeller and there's a LOT of useful tips and tricks in this video that i hadn't thought of with my new Mavic Mini. Many Thanks.
Good advice matey ! let all sensible drone flyers take note! 😍😍😍
Thanks for all the tips mate. The tips you shared are the things I do when I fly. I been flying now for about 2 to 3 years. No lost drone or crushes 👌🏾🤞🏾👏🏾
Just waiting for my mini to be delivered and as it's my first drone, this advice is invaluable, thank you.
Great video. Additional tip on getting back in high winds aloft: In sport mode of course, descend and fly forward (towards you) simultaneously. This method utilizes gravity so that you are in effect going downhill, thereby dramatically increasing your ability to fly forward against the wind. I bought my Mavic Mini for myself last Christmas, took it over to my kids house on Christmas day, and promptly got up to where the wind would not allow me to come back. Knowing that the wind was much less near the ground I started to descend, then noticed that the drone had a very fast ground speed when combining forward motion with the descent.
Yes, I mention that in my How to Prevent Flyaways video as it makes a huge difference. Until you run out of height. Climbing has very much the opposite effect.....
Amazing tips in so short time, thank you! we all surely appreciate it.
Thank you for making this video you pointed out some things I had not considered.
Thanks! Ian. Flown my mavic 3, in fact my first drone, for the first time today:) Just what advice I need. Thanks again!
I would like to add: visually inspect your drone and props for cracks or chips. Change props as needed and at a predetermined interval. Good topic. Thanks for the vid.
I'm new to drones and am just about to buy a Mavic Mini for my son. Your channel is invaluable for getting up to speed. Thanks very much!
Lots of good points Ian! Thanks!
On RTH against a strong wind and if you've lost sight of the drone:
Just watch the screen until the drone completes its turn, then cancel RTH to avoid climbing, zero the gimbal, get in S mode, and fly forward, keeping sky below the centre of the screen to avoid obstacles. It's an alternative to using the map.
Good points Lindsay. 👍🏻
Honestly did not understand clearly
@@watchingeye5435 What Lindsay says is let the automatic RTH start, as that will automatically point the drone towards you (the home point). Then cancel the RTH (as it's only P Normal Mode) and select Sports Mode and just fly forwards.....
Great tips! Thanks!
Thanks for sharing, all these points are super-important!
Thank you so much Ian,very useful.
Thanks just got the Mavic Mini and do love it , I will try to do all of your recommendations , thank you !!

GREAT presentation! Lots of good things to remember that even us who fly alot may forget. Thank YOU !!
You really give a lot of great tips. Love your dog "snooping" around in the background. Thanks for the tips.
Well done! Great info, thanks!
Ran into an auning with it and fell into a bag of rock salt pretty early on. It didn't fall very far and I was back up and running a couple blades later but was still scary. That aside I'm learning, and it's a VERY fun little drone and a great purchase in my mind. To be constructive: when you're starting out, especially in the beginning, shy away from any sort of building. Only fly within VLOS and just keep an eye on things. There's a certain amount of finesse that comes with practice in knowing when and how to control it, and it takes a long time to get good drone-eye coordination, if that makes sense. So really just take your time and treat it like a new car. Happy flying!
Great tips Ian!

great tips !!
Great video my friend thank you.
As a complete new comer found this massively helpful. Great video many thanks
Great videos! Thank you! I bought my mini last year during lockdown. My first drone. So, I had to learn to fly it somehow. I did put the prop guards and stated to fly indoors. I knew it was a bad ideea so I combined the training with the DJI Simulator. I worked for me. I hit TV once, walls many times, the door, no damages, except for a finger cut after I catched the drone that sucked a piece o paper. I learned to fly very smooth from one room to another. A few months later I was able to continue the training outside. :)
Took my phantom 2 to the beach, came back landed and turned off. Decided to go again and thought it will remember where it is and took off immediately. Didn’t have enough satellites and I quickly realised I was in complete manual mode. In my panic forced the drone down and managed to land. Learned a lesson big time.
Really informative. Appreciated
Great reminders for sure!
I use the mini for practice (circles and figure 8s, circles facing inward, circles facing outward) on on my front lawn in between trees, my vehicles, my house and a busy road. If you think you are losing control or will hit something just let go of the sticks. It will stop and you can start over. In tight spots, go very slow.
Thanks Ian! I always enjoy your videos and tutorials, have not missed one! Signing off, Pete from New York State!
Thanks Peter. Stay safe in NY :) Ian
Hi Ian another great video content quick clear and precise, everything for the novice like me and for

Thanks Will; you too. Ian
Great information and presentation :)
Just got my Mavic Mini the other day and I like to think I have common sense. I think the one tip which I'm defo gonna keep in mind is flying into the wind and keeping in mind It'll be harder on the drone trying to RTH into wind. Great tips!
perfect video
Sir! Thank you for the tips
Very well explained. Thanks a lot for this. Greetings from Germany.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks! Ian
