I was referring to other users bud. I understand perfectly but enjoy your videos. I like the no BS approach and testing etc. And you can never have enough knowledge or alternatives to sometimes my own stubbornness 😅😅
by far the best explanation of the settings menu I've seen anywhere, of where to find it, how to get to it and just a wee bit about what it all means. Thanks
Thanks for this video. I thought the zebra lines were a fault. Then I thought it was ‘white balance’, rather than over-exposure warning. I was worried about flying with it in case I lost sight of what I’m doing. Gonna remove it.
Some settings you missed out..how to turn OFF the default display of tutorial video clips when selection the Intelligent Flight Modes. How many shots have I missed because of time wasted turning these off, one at a time? I don't want them to display, full stop. Any advice about this would be appreciated.
Are you aware of if there is a way to decrease the sharpness that is baked into video files? To me everything looks extremely over sharpened and if I need something to be sharp I'd rather just do it in post because it will look the same.
This is a great tutorial, thanks! One thing to note around shutter speed is that there is technically a 'correct' value to aim for - this is not an arbitrary decision. For the most realistic motion blur in an image, the denominator in your shutter speed should be double the frame rate. So for 60fps, your shutter speed should be 1/120. In order to achieve this without overexposing your image, you'll likely need to use ND filters.
1. For smooth movements leave the EXP to 0.43...Or will react strange after you pass middle point. 2. Use H265, D-Cine....at least is 10bit, can save some DR from what is cut by the Limited RGB in drone. 3. Use -1 Noise and -1 Sharp. 4. Use 4:3 full sensor. You choose where to crop it. But is full sensor used. 5. All settings on Manual, pay attention to Histogram. 6. Use as much as you can over 48 FPS in order to exit that stupid so called HDR in-sensor...is ghosting a lot at low light...a lot. Simple as that. Cheers.
Many thanks Ian, new purchase today and your video is a great step in getting started, couldn't readily find the video frame rate settings. Thanks from South Africa👍🏻

Hi Ian, I just got my mini 3 and am having a blast! You videos have, and continue to be, a great source of inspiration and information. I am soooo grateful! If you are ever in Cleveland, OH, dinner’s on me!

Many thanks for your great vid, subscribed. My mini3pro choices (photo/video): underexpose -1/3 or -2/3 EV to avoid burned areas, manual WB for sure (but fine tuned in post prod), and to max out settings for better post prod: RAW 4:3 format 48mpix & D-cine like (LOG) 4K 30fps HDR (smoother side travelling & no HDR when 60fps). Easier with the ND filters for both photo/video modes, considering the fixed f1.7 aperture, when bright sunny day (but also during the marvellous golden hour just after sunrise or before sunset, to reach -1/3 EV).
Thanks a lot for all the info. You made it very clear and easy to understand although going outside with the drone in the air it will be trickier to remember. But there’s the fun 😊
Came here to try and understand what the default settings should be for this, as when I flew yesterday everything was bright white I could barely fly. Eventually discovered the sliders to change ISO and shutter and guessed some values that made it look better (know nothing about photography). Now I've realised I must have accidentally put PRO mode on, will switch back to auto next time but definitely need to try and learn more about these settings, this video has been a great insight - thanks!
Thanks a lot Ian, just had the Mini 3 Pro as a Christmas gift which is amazing and so far I'm very happy about it. Your video is filling many little gaps here and there as I come from a Mavic 2 Pro menu :)
@Ian in London ahaha exactly Ian. It's so light in your hands it feels like "omg I'm gonna break this thing". Then you put it up in the air and the image quality is as great as the Mavic 2 which was very surprising. Also, I tested it up on Malvern Hills in strong wind conditions and it could handle it pretty darn well which is another unexpected superpower. When the drone is on and sitting for too long, it overheats and shut down after only few mins and it's annoying, especially when you are setting it up for the first time or transferring files. How did you manage to keep yours cool while recording this video?
Hi Ian, just got my DJI Mini 3 Pro, and your video saved me a lot of trail and errors, well done saying all that without stopping for a glass of water :) :) Thank you for your video all the way from Springwood ,NSW Australia :)
Always look forward to your video,s. You explain things very well. As a beginner it was information overload and will have to watch it several times. Perhaps this video could have been split giving more time for camera and video. Keep up the good work.
Mini 3 Pro was my first drone. I had heard so many good things about it but it's been nothing but disappointment. For some reason, only the left-hand side of the frame in both video and photo has been in reasonable focus with AF. I have tried manual focus with focus peaking on high to ensure I see it, in still conditions with a high shutter speed and perpendicular to a house, or fence but I can only get one side in focus or the other. I am hoping it has a sensor/lens misalignment issue but I will wait to hear back. Surely I am not the only person to experience this? It has been fun learning to fly it though. Thanks for the informative video!
Chris from Worcestershire. As usual your videos are the best and most easy to understand an RUclips I've gone from mini 1 to mini 3 ,I'm 100 % complete novice with photography and technical equipment so the help I need is simple and straightforward and not to much at once you have it spot on for a nice ,thank you and please keep up these great help videos Regards chris.
Hi Ian. For somebody who wants to tear my hair out over ISO etc I at last have some idea why my videos turn out like negatives. I have saved your video and will return to it when I reboot my hair and make some sense of it all. Thank you for making sense of it for a guy with his mouth still open in bewilderment.
Thanks for this video, wished I'd spotted it sooner. After flying this fantastic little drone none of my footage would play on my laptop. It turns out the drones default video setting out of the box is for the h.265 codec which my older laptop doesn't support. It appears that you do have to select a quality and frame rate that gives the option to change to h.264 in the setting menu but once done it automatically shoots in that codec in all available qualities.
Thank You. Super good job, exactly what I was looking for. Question: I'm not getting good results when I fly over a field of wild flowers. Seems flowers are very dull , blured, just boring. If I stop I can get a good photo, but flying (in C slowly) not so much. Is it because Jpeg smears the colors? Will D-Cinema help? Any suggestions?
Thanks for the good words. If you're in auto then the camera can dull things down a bit. Conversely I find it makes green fields and trees 'over-green'. Either way, D-Cine will flatten colours massively but you're expected to bring things out in post in a program like Premiere Pro. If you stay in normal mode, you can still boost the saturation a little to bring things out.
Thanks for the video. I disagree on the 48mp mode tho. Tests show it results in sharper images. Can result in more noise in low light, but that's what denoise software is for. Thanks!
Thanks for all the explanations Ian. Far too much information for my brain to take in lol. I'll just leave mine on auto and use an ND filter to sort out the exposure. I've pre ordered the mini 3 pro, their not available till next month according to the DJI website. Q. Are you ND filters? If so Where did purchase them from? Q. Have used it residential any areas yet and if so did you get any hassle? Cheers buddy. Keep up the great work. 👍🏻

What a fabulous cornucopia of information at an unfaltering pace and as clear as I could wish for! I have a question: when shooting video and switching from Auto to Pro mode, I rather expected the Pro settings to pick up the current Auto settings; but my screen invariably goes white because it seems to remember some previous Pro settings from the distant past. Is this normal?
Yes; and in a way, it's what you want, as you might always want the ISO set in Pro mode etc..... SO Pro Mode always returns to the previous settings that you had the last time you were in Pro Mode.
Hi Ian. I went to have a look at Mini 3 and made a comparison to Air 2s. I have with me a Mini2. Which one should I invest to? Could you help me out in giving me the pros and cons. Would appreciate it greatly.

Starting to move into more videography with my drone rather than photos. I’ve been watching a lot of videos on RUclips on frame rates and many suggest 25fps but I find it awful as an auto video mode user. I’ve always used 60fps on my iPhone and I find with my Mini 3 Pro that 60fps is much smoother especially on those pan shots. Unfortunately 60fps doesn’t give you HQ or allow POI or Spotlight but I’ll take smooth video over that jittery look. 30fps isn’t too bad but 60fps is noticeable better. Can "D-Cinelike" colour be used in "Auto" mode? When I go into manual mode and use D-Cinelike, and then flip back to Auto.... the colour is still the same unless I manually switch.
The square box with the sun icon on the touch screen to change exposure .... Not clear what it's there and I find myself sliding it around not knowing for sure if the exposure is right or not. Is there just an auto exposure so when I touch the screen I don't keep getting this? Thanks
Hi Ian, this have no relevance to this video but I don't see an option to ask a random question. Can you recommend an aftermarket light/strobe for the underneath of the Mini 3 Pro to use at night that won't affect the video or photo footage taken, thanks
