    I'm still agonizing over this since I just figured out that I've been wearing shoes that are too big for too long now. I wear a 10 in sneakers and my current entry level Shimano shoes are a 44, which equates to a 9.7 according to the inner tag. I pulled out the insert and when I stand on it, there's more than an inch between my big toe and the end. But of course this means that my feet are short and WIDE, 110mm wide for what's probably more like a size 9. The Lake size guide has me fitting into a CX238 or the CX219 the best, since that Competition last best matches my wide feet. Of course, based on other videos for Lake shoes, most times the size in length is actually wrong. Now if Shimano and Lake sizes are the same, then I know I can get away with a 43 or even a 42.5 since my current 44s leave that extra inch at the end of my feet. Of course, I've been burned before...
    Thanks for sharing!

      I wear a size 10 or 9.5 shoe most of the time. In cycling shoes I run spec. sworks in 43. Should I run a 43cm in Shimano? Recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

    I agree Lake is better in terms of the sole space but I have problem with heel slippage even after molding they are too wide. They said that models 2021 improve that but I did not have chance to check that (I have to order from the shoe from another country)

    I had the same problem with the RC 701's going to 702's (both in Wide). Toe box is the same, but the rear Boa fits much lower on the outer mid foot which means it becomes tighter with much less flex. I simply can't wear the 702's beyond 50ks without pain. My new CX332's in wide have totally solved this problem and are simply awesome! It makes you wonder why Shimano have done this? It forced me to shop elsewhere and after buying Lake's, I won't go back to Shimano shoes.

    I recently bought wide 702s which felt great if just slightly tight in the store. But what I found is that as I rode in them and my socks absorbed my foot sweat, they got looser, especially around the heel, and I had to keep tightening them during the ride, but even that wasn't quite enough to make things truly snug. I do like them overall but this is a bit of an annoyance. I'll look into insole or heel inserts as I'm using the thin ones that came with them.

    Good video, thanks for making this to compare the two. I took possibly my last ride with the 902's yesterday. 7½ hours and my feet were KILLLLING me in the 902's... was going to sell them and go for the wides when available... but now I'm not sure I'm going to do that. Might try to track down some 901's....

    Got the 903's in non-wide, because I have pretty regular feet. Only to find out that they are uncomfortably narrow. For me not in the mid-foot, but at the ball of my foot (where the foot is widest, I guess). In the bike shop it fit decently, because I had gone a size up from normal. But when you actually put power down in them on the bike, my feet slide backwards in that heel-cup (deeper than you can shove your heel in them when you're fitting them off the bike). This makes your foot slide towards the narrower sections of the shoe, and also makes the shoe too long. Very nice that you have to spend so much money to figure out Shimano's terrible sizing. I tried Lake's too in the shop, but for me they didn't feel as good at clamping my foot as the S Phyre did. I'll see if I can trade for the wide, and if that solves it, otherwise I'm back to Specialized shoes.

      @@addictcyclist Hello, thanks for the recommendation. Sadly, the (cheap) Sidi MTB shoes I have are on the more narrow side too. But, in the worst case, or once I replace my MTB shoes, I'll be sure to give Sidi another chance, with either their wide variants or more premium models.

      Hey, any updates on the fit of the 903 in wide? :)

    • @Olimorveu
      @Olimorveu 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@daydreaming_aristocrat Funny thing, just got them today. Massive delays at the Shimano warehouse. Tried them on shortly on the indoor trainer, and they felt great (comparable to my S-works road shoes 5, but stiffer and a very secure heel, but slightly narrower near my small toe). Actually sized down while going wider, compared to the previous 903's I tested, so from EU 47 to 46 wide. Also had a 46 in Sworks. Because the heel cup is so deep and the padding is pretty thick, I'd recommend placing the back of your heel on the ground when fitting them and really pushing your heel towards the ground, such that your heel is pushed as deep as possible. That may give a clearer indication on the fit, but it may still not be the same as under power. But for me, a wide did the job.

    Is it the same with the RC502, that the wide version is not that wide? I got almost the same width as yours, from 10.75 to 10.9 maybe, should i go for the wide? I wear size 45 on the RP2 and it's a standard size.

    My feet are wide, but my heel is somewhat narrow. I am having trouble deciding between Lake and Shimano wide. How does the width change when going from the heel box to the heel? Some lakes look they stay wide the whole foot and this Shimano looks like it gets narrow. Heel slip can be problem for when I have to get wide shoes.

      I got the same size of my 901 but wide. Still prefer the 901. I just got replacement heel pads for the 901 so they will last longer. Length was spot on comparing the two. The width of the 902 is a joke. The sole is more narrow and still less volume than the 901.
